Okay, as a person who grew up in a Chinese household and who recently moved from Chinatown to BK I have been craving Chinese food for a while and congee is def one of my comfort foods! I was a little skeptical of the name/marketing but read some good reviews and decided to go in. I felt honestly BETRAYED by these 5 star reviews. This felt like an abomination to congee!! Seriously, have you all never had congee before? It was so weird and watery and salty, it was topped with things that should never belong with congee... I understand they're trying to make it modern or whatever but it was just not good to me. I couldn't even finish my bowl. It tasted so off and wrong. It reminded me of a white woman gentrifying congee's brand "the breakfast cure." I also got taro bubble tea to possibly ease the pain of this horrible congee but it was equally disappointing, the texture of the bubbles were bad quality. For $5-6 bubble tea I could get way higher quality bubble tea in chinatown, as well as congee that doesn't cost $12. I really do not recommend and am skeptical whether this is even an Asian owned business. Should have just gotten the burger next door. read more

Really enjoyed my meal from here! Made my own bowl with chicken, kimchi, chili oil (like it spicy!), peanuts, avocado, and soft egg. I also got the breakfast pork sandwich. Read other comments about traditional preferences of congee etc. and have to say that I really enjoyed this take on this dish. (I've had the regular way too). Maybe I'm use to fusion and/or contemporary takes on traditional dishes-- coming from Hawai'i--but this was a nice exploration I haven't really seen yet. Yes traditions have their place in the beauty of its purity and identity (we've got a similar story with trendy city poke shops popping up globally which are far removed from the traditions of Hawaiian poke). But it is also relevant to weave the fringes of culture to see what comes out when multiple worlds blend (the creative experiment), as long as no one is pretending (not being authentically themselves) or misguiding others through misrepresentation and disrespectful cultural appropriation. Quaint, cozy, small. Had limeade and iced tea drink - tart and ice cold, which I liked. Their breakfast sandwich has the option of adding pork belly and avocado, which I recommend. It's a small place with not a lot of comfortable seating but doable and since we're moving back to the neighborhood we'll probably order from them lots. BONUS: FREE WIFI read more

The space is casual and friendly, staff is friendly if a little distracted. The real winner are the congee bowls which definitely deserve 5 stars. Everyone I've brought here raves about them after (I particularly love the porkducken). That said, they really could smooth things out here. It seems like they do all of their food prep during service hours, which means every time I've eaten in a super loud blender or food processor was going on and off the entire meal, making it almost impossible to maintain a conversation. The last time it was so egregious (blender started every time one of us opened our mouths) my friend actually thought we were being pranked. Another time they were cutting so many onions that our eyes started to burn and eventually mine hurt so much we had to leave abruptly. I'd just order delivery, but it's food that needs to be eaten hot. My experience with delivery it came cold. It's still worth going for the food. read more

On a glorious Sunday morning, i went in with my partner and 4 year old daughter with sheer excitement simply because of the idea that I didn't have to drink bitter-a$$ Deli coffee (which my boyfriend loves). I was even more excited that this "haven" for elevated levels (ala artisan) of my man's morning go-to (breakfast sandwiches) was a few blocks over, delivered and was going to change our weekend morning routine! I jumped at the opportunity to go there before a beach trip. So my bleeding heart is writing this review because I had high hopes! Just some perspective: Gates Ave is a mixed bag! You have projects sandwiched in between homes costing close 2 million. I am a long time Bed Stuy resident...moved here in 1998 for graduate school and loved it. Needless to say, I have watched the changes in the community. I always make note of new businesses that open in my neighborhood. I support them but I always bear in mind if owners were crafting their business model to serve the community that currently exist or the community that will come with re-gentrification! I believe there is a way to serve both! But Bed-Stuy Provisions...loses big time at being a space that is welcoming for the "basic" coffee drinkers (who may just want white sugar...they only serve raw sugar...which I love), over priced fruit cups and less than welcoming service! With their raw sugar, the cute barista severed up shade. I greeted her with a cheerful hello to be greeted back with a perma-smile! I didn't expect her to roll out the red carpet because a black family had just rolled in but a parting of her lips for a proper greeting would have been awesome. She proceeded to get huffy (huffing and puffing) over my indecisiveness (admittedly overwhelmed by the selection)! Girl, Bye! Anyway all that to say....the food was over priced yet yummy! This place will always give you great fresh ingredients every time. P.B.L.A.T. Sandwich is very good sometimes too much fat but what can you expect with pork belly. Very tasty. The bread is sometimes too tough which leads to a lot of the delicious content falling out of the bread. The chicken cutlet sandwich is nice and fresh but lacks flavor. Needs some seasoning on chicken or maybe a chipotle mayo or something. It's really not worth the money. They do God's work here. I had to be at work early and hadn't had time to cook or pick up food. I pulled up Seamless to see what was delivering in my area a little after 8 in the morning. Bed Stuy Provisions came up, which is something that hadn't popped up on my delivery list before. The menu looked awesome, but I was torn between that and another nearby place, so I decided to let Yelp break the tie for me. With a perfect five star rating, I decided to go for it. The Oregon-trail-esque name had me suspicious that it might be hipster hell, and I was a little worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype created by the Yelpers, but it totally did! The estimated time frame for delivery was 50 minutes to an hour, but my food was on my desk in less than 40 minutes. I love quick delivery! I ordered a breakfast sandwich, cold brew coffee with skim milk, and a seasonal fruit cup, totaling $13. Everything was awesome, most especially the sandwich! It can be made with pork belly or with avocado and tomato. Since I don't eat pork or beef, I went with the veggie version. It was without flaw. The bread warm, fresh, crispy on the outside, and just the right amount of chewy. The avocado was perfectly ripe. The tomato was grilled just enough to bring out the flavor without making it super soggy. The egg was slightly crispy. The cheddar was sharp without being overwhelming, and melted to perfection. There is absolutely nothing I would've changed about the sandwich. My cold brew coffee was strong and had enough ice to make it cold without making it super watery as the ice eventually started to melt. The seasonal fruit cup was a respectable size and filled to the top with even proportions of ripe, delicious strawberries, blueberries, and apple chunks. The delivery minimum is $12, which is not the lowest in the area but not the highest either. My order total $13 and served as my breakfast and lunch for the day, although if you're a big eater or feeling ravenous, this would only be one meal. I'm super happy that I gave this place a chance and can add it to my breakfast rotation. I've already started recommending it to my coworkers and will definitely be ordering soon. read more

I love this place. I just happened to pass it with a friend so I was just making judgments based off decor when I decided to eat here and it's so surprise it's so well received here on Yelp. It was closer to 5PM (the closing time) so there weren't any listed vegetarian options left for my friend (but they offered to make him a black bean burger which isn't on the menu). I'm not vegetarian so I got the P.B.L.A.T. sandwich, which was amazing and I was happy with it. Maybe I'm ravenous, but as I read other reviews in the sidebar as I type this people are saying it was a huge sandwich. It was normal, but I'd say pretty vertically stacked. It wasn't not filling though, but still a solid one meal rather than two as other suggest. YMMV. read more

I have consistently had excellent meals here. I'm a fan of the Pork belly hero. On Thursday the clerk made a second batch of coffee and said I could have it because it was much stronger. I drank the second batch and it really was stronger. Bed Stuy Provisions has a huge amount of charm. One problem is seating, I think they need more seating. A second problem is their actual provisions aisle is under construction and loading right now. I'm grateful to Bed Stuy Provisions. I accidentally stumbled upon this sweet little spot, and boy am I glad I did! They had a tiny little Asian market where you can find Thai groceries and other things. But mainly... their congee! It's hard to find Congee in Brooklyn, and it brings me back to when I was living in Thailand. The duck congee is AMAZING, and it's all I will be eating come colder weather. So I came here because of the good Yelp reviews and I was intrigued by the PBLAT sandwich (house cured pork belly!) I can say even with high hopes I was not disappointed. Not only was this one of the most flavorful and well portioned sandwiches I've had in recent memory, but the service was on point and with a smile. As an aside, while I was there several previous customers stopped by just to say thank you for the beautiful presentation and service from a recent catering event. I had seen the plants peaking through the cream colored drapes and thought, "I like plants". Second trip by, I could smell the confection of an alluring nature. When I finally entered I found a wondrous world filled with loose leaf teas and avocado and vine ripe tomatoes. And the freshest baked chocolate chip cookie, YAS. I've started cooking Chinese food recently, but sourcing ingredients can be tough and sometimes you don't want to schlep to Chinatown or Flushing for some damn peppercorns.
