I like this theater. I really do. But I think they might have a rodent problem! It happened this afternoon. We were the first to arrive and find our seats at the very top row in auditorium 6. I heard some rustling and I thought it was just the sound of the building settling or someone moving around in the projector room. Then I saw the tail end of a rodent walking down the stairs! Well I guess that is to be expected in Salinas Valley and in a venue where food is regularly spilled...but it still freaked me out! If management and/or owner(s) is reading this, please get the rodent issue addressed. read more

Crying Room closed off to bring your newborn and noisy toddlers - cant find this anywhere else. Wheelchair accessible to top level in biggest theaters. 5 stars for just that. good luck finding both those things anywhere in LA or the Bay Area. Accepts MoviePass. Owner Moctezuma Esparza (producer of Selena) always gives back to the community and provides this gem in Latino dominant, and often under-served cities like Salinas, Bakersfield, Fresno and the like. The Salinas Oldtown revitalization project wouldn't never gotten off the ground with out Maya Theaters and of course the parking garage it brought with it. Compared to other theaters is just average but for its location and for what its doing for the downtown businesses its great, it fits right in. The first couple rooms have a sound proof booth for those parents who are taking the little ones, I have used several times and its just wonderful. There is about 8-10 seats per booth. On Tuesday's is family night, tickets $5.50, Wednesday is Senior day tickets for $4.00 and I know once and while they will have 80's movies. A while back they showed the Goonie's and I had a blast. read more

I purchased tickets for a show that was supposed to have closed captioning from Fandango. I found out after the movie started it was not available. Half of my family does not speak Spanish and we were forced to watch that showing because it accommodated our large party. This was a Christmas gift for my Great Grandma who traveled from AZ to visit us. After I found there was no closed captioning, I approached a young lady taking tickets. Since she was young, I was careful in asking her why there was no closed captioning when it was advertised on Fandango's website. I didn't want to scare her or make her nervous. She basically said closed captioning was not advertised at Maya's website; therefore, it was not their problem. I have never had to check both websites when I purchase tickets. I didn't expect an apology but her lack of concern and empathy for my situation is what upset me. I became more upset when I asked to speak to a manager and she said they were busy. I pointed to the manager at the concession stand and confirmed she was the manager. I decided to wait in long concession line so I could talk to the manager and missed the beginning of the movie. She also said the same thing and confirmed it was a KNOWN ISSUE with Fandango. I asked her how can you allow this to continue to happen and what she going to do with my feedback to ensure this does not happen to another paying customer. She didn't respond so I told her she should be sharing my feedback with her corporate office. I also gave her feedback regarding the service I received from young lady but again lack of concern and empathy. Each time I visit my family in Salinas, I always take them to Maya Cinemas. I have a large family so I spend over $100 each time. Knowing this is an ongoing issue with Fandango is completely unethical. I have sent my feedback to both Fandango and Maya Cinemas and have yet to receive a response. I would not recommend going to their establishment because they do not appreciate their customers. read more

This is amazing small business theater. I'm a native of Monterey, so I've only been accustomed to the Cinemark at the shopping center. Then Cinemark expanded to Marina. However, Maya cinemas are far superior in audio and visual quality compared to the local Cinemarks. I recently discovered this gem and plan on seeing more movies here. Did I mention they have recliner seats? Every business has room for improvement and Maya cinemas can definitely improve on their ticketing system. They need to update their online ticketing and have reserved seating available. The value that this theater offers is exceptional. read more

Just finished watching the movie Xmen... Its has several dark senses,but the movie didn't suck. Nobody bothered to advise that in auditorium 12 the lights dont get turned on.. When I went to notify an employee they informed me that they stay on, "it's the lowest dim we can get it"... Why dont they mention that at the door?? I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt: Back in the late 2000's and early 2010's, this place was pretty cool and fun to watch movies at, and still can be an enjoyable place. The food and drinks are good and the seats have been updated to be more adjustable. My issues are: 1. The movie roster at the box office doesn't work at all, so it's just a useless object above the window. 2. Arcade room needs fixing. One of the machines stole my money and didn't work. 3. This one's just my personal one and don't take my word for it as it might not be their fault, and could be the city's fault, but the lack of people there kinda bothers me. I mean if been there a few times. Maybe it's just a coincidence and maybe during Avengers Endgame it might have been packed, but I wouldn't know since I saw it out of town. read more

I told them I'd leave my review today so I'm gonna I'm giving you guys 2 stars because most ur employees are very respectful and nice also the manager that was a guy was very nice and respectful too I've came here many times at nights and even just to come in and buy popcorn or a drink on my way home from work today I came by and really had to use the restroom before I was gonna by a ice because it was hot and the employee a short older lady with glasses straight up told me no I cannot use the restroom very rudely and started telling me it's the policy that I cannot use the bathroom then tells me to go tell the manager who I never knew was the manger which was a lady so yk at this point I was pissed off because I'm a good customer here and the lady look at me very rudely also this was Friday today 9/23 around 11:30 so you can know what staff was working this day and I told this lady politely idk why her employee is trippin off me because I always come here and she straight up told me well if she doesn't want you to go to the bathroom you can't go ? Like whattt then I said but nobody has ever not let me use the bathroom here as a customer and she said well there not here right so yea and can you back up from me I'm trying not to be near you and I politely said my bad and walked back and waited for my boyfriend and the other employee kept looking at me like yup I was right and idk I just felt very discriminated and I don't ever wanna come back to this movie theater just feel very uncomfortable and I hope people learn how to treat people respectfully and when there obviously having a bad day not to take it on someone thank you!! read more

Worst experience I've had at a theater. The woman at ticket counter didn't know how to scan barcode on app. All she said was sorry for not being able to help you. Went to get popcorn and clerks were not attentive at the counter. Had to ask them if they were ready for my order. To top things off the movie was 23 minutes late. They had to be told by multiple people to turn movie on. I will not return to this theater. Wish I would have picked Century theater instead. read more

Horrible theater. Movies are always dark and dim because the employees are too lazy to remove the 3D Lens before showcasing the movies which makes the contrast much darker. Save yourself the money and go to Century Theatres by the mall. Its way better and the movies are actually bright and showcase the movies in it's true aspect compared to this place. I saw the same movies three times to compare them at both locations and the difference is apparent. Sad that many customers who attend this place won't see the movies in their true forms. read more

We had low expectations for a theater in Salinas, but were pleasantly surprised!!!!! The leather seats were very comfy and reclined. There are "walls" separating each row so you would not be bothered by cell phone activity below. Each seat has an unblocked view of the screen and seats are now "assigned" reducing any hassle of finding a seat. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Avengers and I can't wait to come back for another movie. On a negative note, the bathroom was filthy and the audio was a little below average, but I'm very happy with my experience. read more

Ok, where to begin? Today's viewing of The Avengers at the Maya had to be the strangest and perhaps most frustrating movie going experience of my life. We decided on the 10:45 AM show (perhaps the only positive I'd have to say about this theatre is the early showtimes) and it was much more crowded than I'd expected. I was anticipating an energetic and lively crowd, as it was opening weekend and all, but I have never been in a theatre full of people lacking such basic manners. We found our seats in the half full theatre just a few minutes before the previews began, and it soon filled up the rest of the way. During the previews there was lots of talking and dozens of people shining their cellphones like flashlights to find seating. No biggie, they'd settle down once the feature started, right? Nope. The movie started (without the usual on screen reminder of general courtesy) and during the first scene the projector couldn't find it's focus. Frustrating. Also during this time, though the general conversations around us died down, several groups with small children were noisily looking for seats, standing in the aisles and having full on conversations. This went on for 15-20 minutes. Distracting, to say the least. The most appalling display, however, was the makeshift play area some parents decided to create down toward the front of the theatre. There were 4 or 5 kids under the age of 3 running up and down the aisle, climbing stairs, swinging from railings, squealing and talking/yelling. During the entire movie. We were a few rows from the top and could hear them loud and clear for 2 and a half hours (well ok, not during the scenes where the Hulk was smashing everything). Not one visit from an usher or theatre manager asking them to put their children in seats. The fact that no one else in the theatre, particularly those sitting near this scene, said nothing tells me it's probably business as usual at the Maya. Maya Cinemas' management needs to do a better job of keeping the theatre a comfortable and reasonable atmosphere for moviegoers. Tickets should not be sold 15 minutes past showtime, and ushers or managers should pop in from time to time and regulate rude patrons. Safe to say, I'm probably not going back. read more

I love this theatre because it has the sensory viewing shows for children with special needs. The cinemas is VERY nice in my opinion and staff seem to be happyish. The problem I have is the poor, poor advertising of the sensory viewings. I have been directed to the website that says there is a Maya Cares link, but have yet to locate it. The FB page does a poor job or advertising and I find myself asking when the next sensory viewing is and what movie is playing. read more

Just watched Avatar in 3D tonight... before I get into it, good movie! Anyhoo, the venue is very well kept... clean, organized, not too much chaos / mayhem. The staff was pretty nice. Matinee cost: $8.50 I ordered the Value Combo: Large Popcorn + Large Drink = $10 I asked for layered butter, not realizing that the butter was self-serve. The girl gave me my bucket half-filled, I proceeded to pour in the butter, then they topped me off. I have to say, the popcorn's texture was quite nice: perfect crunch, good temperature! The Cherry Coke was... ok. Not enough carbonation, a little too much syrup. Yes, it was a tad sweet. When we got inside the actual theater room, I very quickly noticed... the LEATHER seats. Yeah, you heard right. I've never been to a theater with leather seats. Call me unfortunate, call me deprived, but this was my first leather seat theater. I was impressed. It was more comfortable than your average theater. I walked out of the theater feeling pretty good... both because the movie I just watched was very good, and also because I felt like the theater environment was very nice as well. One last note: As they were handing out the 3D glasses, they wiped down each pair with a cloth of sorts. This is more considerate than many theaters I've been to, sadly. I don't live in Salinas, but if I did, I'd frequent this spot. read more

I've been going to Maya's for years and always been happy with their services, but not today. There was a girl at the ticket booth, however I was totally ignored. She was doing paperwork but did not have the courtesy to make eye contact. I knocked on the front door and that's when I was told they open 10 minutes before the first movie starts ( new rule ?). Went back to the ticket booth and finally got my ticket at 10:50. Movie starts at 11:05. Then doors didn't open until 11:00. At the concession stand, they would not accept my Maya gift card . (I've used these cards from Costco for many years). I asked for the manager , she came , not a word or eye contact, she just processed the gift card manually. It's time to visit the Marina theater. Again, I'm breaking my self-imposed ethic that limits my Yelping to restaurants. What could merit such a turn of events? The Maya Cinemas parking garage. Let's set the scene: my friends and I went to see "2012" this past Friday night. It's opening night, so we expect it to be crowded, and indeed, it's packed, even for the last showing at 10:15. As we drive in, there's a warning that "who ever goes to see 2012 please see casher first." (Their words, not mine.) This did not bode well. We parked, pretty quickly, remarkably, and my friends get in line for the cashier while I check out the ticket situation. Turns out, the movie's sold out, and the cashier gives us our prepaid ticket back so we can exit. Easier said than done. We had to wait literally for 20 minutes to leave the garage, despite parking on the second level. This garage is unbelievably small, a fact made worse by the growing trend of bigger cars in this country. There was absolutely no wiggle room between parking spots and it required some serious skills to maneuver out of our spot. Next, we waited in a seemingly endless queue of cars exiting the garage. Finally the end was in sight and we were on our merry way, admittedly a little less than merry after missing our movie. What has this experience taught us, Yelpers? (Other than the fact that the Maya Cinemas needs to hire a better writer for their signs.) Skip the parking garage and park in the lot across the street. You'll certainly save yourself the headaches we found in the garage. read more

Maya Cinemas is Georgous! Its a 14 screen and has the biggest screen in the County.. and in the tri-county area as well! its only a year old but it has class and sophisication of a much older theatre. I was there for their grande opening and it was truely grande and hasn't changed for me. I have a biased opinion since i have 8 years management experience working for Movie theatres (not this one however!) they have a family night on tuesdays where your tickets are bargain price 5.50 they have a kids film society three hours free parking in the parking structure next door. (validation inside the theatre where the rip your tickets!) they accept credit cards, make sure you bring you ID. they check it!! have fun at this theatre. read more

There is a marketing issue that is inconvenient for the customer. I just experienced my third time of looking for movie times on line (corporate site, local site AND Fandango) and then showing up, only to learn that those times were incorrect. The newspaper and online stated a time that the theater did not have. HUGE let down Manager was not helpful at all...just said, "that's not my fault".... Update: Maya has really stepped it up! The movie theater is actually great nice and clean but in the spirit of Salinas ther is no free parking, and no safe parking the lot in front is controlled by the city, although they provide you with no security for your vehicle they will give you a ticket if you don't pay your parking fee and additionally they will fine you if you are one minute late paying for extra time. Parking structure next door to the theater but they will charge you by the hour ... If you want to enjoy a movie here bring some lube because you will get screwed... Loving Salinas read more

Yes, it's Salinas. Compared to theaters in the Bay Area (or most anywhere else..) this would be considered an average theater. However, I am thankful to have the Maya in Salinas as Northridge is awful and driving to Monterey is not always an option. PROS I like being able to control the butter on the popcorn - some people I know (no, mom, not YOU) like a LOT of butter and others (yes, honey...) not so much. Love that they have a family restroom for accessibility needs/taking mixed gender kids to the restroom! Big screens that often show 3D - plus the new motion seats! Next door to Pica - love their Milanesa! But the biggest plus of this theater is the staff. Each person that we come in contact with is polite, friendly and professional. I really, really appreciate that! Love that they advertise local businesses in their pre-show. No generic car or soda ads. Love the special events like summer kids' movies and oldies but goodies like Casablanca! CONS What happened to the parking lot??? I know this is not their doing - yet it takes away from being able to make the Maya an easy choice. read more

This place is pretty good. They have some pretty comfortable chairs and they have a decent sized theater for those movies that are new. Usually come to this theater only because it's pretty close to the pad. Prices are decent usually $5.50 before 5pm and under $10 on weekends and after 5pm. A little tip is that on Monday all day is $1 hot dogs and also $1 nacho cheese. Tuesdays is matinee all day so basically $5.50 all day, that's the day I usually watch movies. Also right next door is XL Grindhouse and you can get the only 60 oz. beer in town. read more

Great location in Old Town Salinas near the Steinbeck Center. And it's near a few restaurants which is nice. The parking is virtually only in the parking structure which is fine because you can get the ticket validated. The theater itself is nice. It is clean and has plenty of restrooms. I used to go very often and always appreciated the number of restrooms and the extra snack bar. Very convenient! As strange as this may sound, some theaters are too cold or too hot. This one was just right. I don't go to movie theaters anymore but when I did, I would choose Maya Cinemas! read more

I have been to this Theatre and really like it. The place is always clean, the staff is helpful and friendly. They have headphones for hearing impaired people I think the refreshments are priced a bit high. This is a good place to bring the family! For my first experience back in a movie theatre in over a year, I felt like Maya could have handled reopening way better. When I got to my seats, someone was already in our reserved seats and messed up the social distancing of our row. It was awkward because they were refusing to move and it was not until we showed our ticket that they moved smh. If people followed the rules it would have been no problem, but Maya could have at least blocked out the seats that were not supposed to be used. As much as I miss watching movies in the theaters , I will probably not go back to Maya unless they enforce stricter guidelines to follow. read more

While this theater is closer to where I live than at the Del Monte Center, its my last choice of where I want to go. As many Yelpers have said, parking can be a pain. They have those new seats-- for $20 you sit in a reserved section and the chair moves and bumps along with the movie (Pirates of the Caribbean being one of them). We didn't experience them for a movie, but we sat in the demo and it reminded me the Star Wars ride at Disneyland. Not sure if I want to pay $20.00, but it's a new gimmick. My real complaint was the bathroom. No TP, no paper towels. I had to use an "ass gasket" (toilet seat paper cover) to dry my hands. Overall the staff seems friendly enough. I just have the worst luck with noisy people, and sometimes those who can't/won't hire a babysitter, so their kids sit through what we're watching-- which is usually not suitable for kids. read more

On this trip back to Salinas I've actually seen 2 movies here. The first being Avatar 3D with my dad, the second being Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squekuel (what can I say, my 5 year old nephew wanted to see it and I like to think I'm a great Aunt!). Both times I was pretty impressed with the cleanliness of the theater (though considering it's located in Old Town, I'd be really disappointed if I found it dirty or overly worn). There were no problems with either showings and the movies started basically on time so I was pretty pleased. My only complaint - the DIY butter. This is just a personal preference but I hate doing it myself. Especially because if you want it layered, like I usually do, you have to ask for a half fill, DIY the butter, then go back and have them top you off. Just a mild annoyance. Otherwise, I'd definitely see something else here if I was in town and the mood so struck me. I was a little annoyed that the parking lot during the day is pay to play. However, the parking garage is 3 hours free with validation so I'm definitely going to be doing that one the next time I go for a matinee. read more
