This theater allows filming by any patron who says they need to.

Though the refreshment stand is nice, the owners and workers allow the disruption of the movie for everyone around any patron who says they need to film the entire movie on their bright tablet because "otherwise they cannot see" showing us that the experience of some is more important than the experience of the rest of us. So unless you enjoy this kind of experience, avoid this place. It's really tragic when you try to support local small businesses and then they show you that entitled pirates are more important than you are.

This gem is more than a theater it is a community space. We went for bingo night which is promised to be every Thursday. The two hosts were so funny and made it such a fun night! The prizes were legit with a couple tickets given out for each win. There were 12 games in total so plenty of opportunities to win. In the last few games they even had a prize wheel where I won movies for a year! The grand prize was a gift card to Victorian Corner. I can't believe the tickets for a year wasn't the grand prize!! The popcorn was flowing and perfectly salty. It paired well with the $6 Mai Tai IPA from Alvarado Street they had in cans. Support the theater and the Bingo Boiz!

We had an incredible dinner at Lighthouse Cinema! You wouldn't expect a movie theater to have food this good, but it was honestly one of the best meals I've had in the Monterey area. I tried the Salmon with Greek Salad and the Meatballs with Fettuccine, and both were fantastic. The salmon was perfectly grilled and the pasta was rich and comforting. Whether you're staying for a movie or just want a great dinner, I highly recommend checking this place out!

The only theater I go to, it's cheap, back seats have tons of leg room, and it's never busy.

First off, the venue is older in the best way. It's beautiful, full of charm, and has a uniqueness you just don't get in newer places. I'm personally a big fan of small to mid sized theaters with personality rather than giant venues built purely for mass audiences. This one definitely delivers on that. The theater feels like a mix of different historical influences coming together. I had a few guesses about its origins while I was there, and after a little Googling later I can say with confidence it's a restored movie palace/vaudeville theater that still hosts a variety of events today. It opened in 1926, and some of the original design features are still there. That honestly made me really excited because the place absolutely has those vibes. Inside, the architecture is really unique. It's kind of a courtyard meets castle theme. The ceiling was one of my favorite parts. It has a painted sky, with most of it covered by a canopy effect. Ceilings are such an underrated part of décor, but I always notice them, and this one was especially cool. There are also little decorative flower gardens under the windows that add to the courtyard atmosphere. Looking toward the stage really leans into the castle feeling, like you've somehow been transported back in time to watch a performance. Since we saw a comedy show the orchestra pit wasn't being used, but there were people sitting up in the balcony as well. The overhead lighting throughout the theater was beautiful too, very Tiffany lamp esque. Picture included. Outside the main theater area there's a bar and stairways leading up to the upper levels. I wish I had taken a picture but I completely forgot. The bathrooms are on opposite ends of the theater, and wow, talk about another little time travel moment. They're definitely old, but they work just fine. The stalls are shorter with smaller doors, which I assume matches the original partition style design. It reminded me of a saloon style restroom I once saw in an old historic town somewhere. For a moment it even made me feel taller than usual, which was unexpected. The theater is right downtown and within easy walking distance of a bunch of other businesses, which makes it a great place to see a show and then wander around afterward.

My wife and I came to our first Rocky Horror Picture Show with them back when they were on Lighthouse and have been coming back every year since. Their productions are always good quality and light hearted. We have been to a variety of the food related events as well and everything was delicious and entertaining. I usually try to break down reviews into service, food/drink and abiance but I don't think that is very applicable for a theater, so I'll address those at the end. In general you'll come to Paper Wing to be entertained and if you're an introvert like me you may be pushed out of your comfort zone a bit, but it's always in good fun. This is a fantastic community third space and a great little spot that makes the otherwise straight laced Monterey Peninsula interesting. If you go for a play the food/drink is served at a bar in the back, it's nothing that will blow your mind but you're not there for the food/drink. Service always friendly and as efficient as bar service can be. The physical ambiance of the theater is pretty basic; However, there is an amazing painted mural of New Monterey back in the day up near the roof.

Now, pay careful attention to your GPS, folks, because I totally missed the drive the first time. I arrived, but was afraid I had arrived at someone very fancy's personal estate. It was dark, oh so dark. But there must have been 30 cars, so I parked with all the others and walked toward the building. I guess first I walked around the building. There were two places I could see light coming from, and I picked the one on the left. Folks, go for the one on the right. I walked around back and into the rose garden. I was still a little afraid the master of the house would set his royal guard dogs on me for prowling. Back to my car. I'm hustling. I'm thinking, "there was a sister museum that was also advertised to be open late, maybe I should go there!" (apparently that was wrong anyway, cause it;s First Friday at MMA Pacific Street not Third Thursday, but in retrospect I was pretty confused all around). But first I try the other place where light beckoned. It is an adorable, old fashioned door. And all of a sudden, I'm on the other side and inside this beautiful land of art, curated by beautiful people and enchanting enclosed within a historic estate (see, eg., chandeliers, dainty little bathrooms, gift shop in what feels like a dining room). Almost everyone was already in a lecture about art restoration, so I slowly wandered through the collection without having to navigate a crowd. It was super enjoyable. The kids area/library was a place I'd like to spend more time, and the gift shop was well priced. I'd definitely like to go back and see the outdoor area. It was, as hinted at above, almost pitch black at night.

Reading some of the other reviews; it makes me sad to think people picked this place apart! My husband, family, and I had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our events coordinator was Mel Cota. She is FANTASTIC! This gal does not skip a beat! Not only is she kind, detailed oriented, compassionate, and communicative; she was able to turn my vision and my wants into a perfect wedding day.
