I understand the new owners have invested a lot. I applaud their commitment to keeping this charming local theater open. And I wonder if attendance will be sufficient, it feels like people want a local movie theater but not enough of them actually want to visit it. And I was a bit surprised at the condition of the theater. Most significantly, when I watched Project Hail Mary yesterday, the image was very misaligned with the screen. At the top and bottom, it spilled beyond the screen by a good foot. And the sides, it fell short of the edges of the screen by a half foot. On the right hand side, masking material was simply missing from the screen setup. In a charming local theater like this, I'm not expecting big theater video and audio quality (and neither are, and both are adequate). But the setup last night seemed janky, so much so that it makes me less likely to visit again. read more

I am writing to express our group's thanks and appreciation to Dr. Adeeb, owner of Pacific Grove's Lighthouse Cinema, for allowing our group of film noir buffs to convene at Lighthouse Cinema for one of our group's get-togethers to watch a classic noir film that we provided on the big screen. We were based in Theater #3 with all the comfort of being in someone's living room. We were afforded time both to socialize before our film, and to briefly discuss it afterward. We appreciated the good selection of snacks and drinks available for us to purchase and enjoy during the screening. I couldn't imagine a more hospitable setting, made more so by your extremely helpful staff. So thank you Dr. Adeeb for welcoming our group into this cherished Pacific Grove resource. Though the refreshment stand is nice, the owners and workers allow the disruption of the movie for everyone around any patron who says they need to film the entire movie on their bright tablet because "otherwise they cannot see" showing us that the experience of some is more important than the experience of the rest of us. So unless you enjoy this kind of experience, avoid this place. It's really tragic when you try to support local small businesses and then they show you that entitled pirates are more important than you are. read more

This gem is more than a theater it is a community space. We went for bingo night which is promised to be every Thursday. The two hosts were so funny and made it such a fun night! The prizes were legit with a couple tickets given out for each win. There were 12 games in total so plenty of opportunities to win. In the last few games they even had a prize wheel where I won movies for a year! The grand prize was a gift card to Victorian Corner. I can't believe the tickets for a year wasn't the grand prize!! The popcorn was flowing and perfectly salty. It paired well with the $6 Mai Tai IPA from Alvarado Street they had in cans. Support the theater and the Bingo Boiz! read more

We had an incredible dinner at Lighthouse Cinema! You wouldn't expect a movie theater to have food this good, but it was honestly one of the best meals I've had in the Monterey area. I tried the Salmon with Greek Salad and the Meatballs with Fettuccine, and both were fantastic. The salmon was perfectly grilled and the pasta was rich and comforting. I have attempted to visit 3 times and have not been able to. 1. December- My friend and I (a former patient of the owner's) walked in to see what they were serving for dinner. We stood there looking at the menu for about 5 minutes and after not being greeted by the one person behind the counter, we decided to get dinner elsewhere. 2. February- I had a day off work with my kiddo and we thought it might be fun to see a movie at the local theater. I visited the website to see what was playing. Only found old listings and no show times. Called the number on the site- it was a fake number!!! Listed as 0123456789 What kind of business lists a fake number?! Found entertainment elsewhere for the day. 3. March- They were advertising a card show this weekend Sat & Sun from 1pm - 7pm. On Sunday, around 4:30, my kiddo rounds up his Pokémon cards, I pull out cash, and we head over to see if he can make any trades. There was a maintenance worker snaking a drain outside, the door was cracked, and there was a "closed" sign on the door adjacent. I peek in the cracked door to see if the sign was just flipped wrong but seeing no one in the lobby or anywhere, we left. I really want to support this place. I have so many fond memories here. We just want the movies back and to be able to support this place! It's like he is running this business into the ground on purpose?! I will try once more after they "fix" the projectors this week (according to a post on FB), but I am losing hope in this place. read more

I like a lot of what the new owners have done, but they still have some kinks to work out. The schedules they post on their web site aren't all that reliable. They don't effectively promote the movies and live music. That said, they get some excellent area bands performing, and some outstanding limited-run films. Pretty good selection of beer and wine, and their food menu looks very tempting. read more

Have lived here for years and always enjoyed Lighthouse Cinema, until now. I don't know what is happening but it's nearly impossible to find out what is playing and when. The movies listed on the marquee today don't match those on the website, and there are no movie times. On top of that, they've removed their phone number. When I tried the number listed here, I was put through to an automated menu, and when I selected "Movie times," it hung up. Someone in the reviews mentioned their new website is https://lighthousecinema.live/, but it just goes to a 404 page. Are they trying to go out of business? I loved supporting local and walking down to the theatre. But I guess I'll be going over to Del Monte instead. read more

So what's going on here? Based on the website saying the film "Nuremberg" was slated for 1 PM today, and being unable to complete the ticket purchase on-line, we took time out of our day to drive over, purchase tickets and watch the show. The place was locked up at 12:30 PM, but workers were milling around inside. No one bothered to pay us any attention. Finally someone else arrived as well and pounded on the door. We were still ignored. After several more poundings someone opened the door and told us the place was closed for the day, for a private party. No sign on the door to let prospective customers know, nada. She didn't apologize for the inconvenience, or acknowledge that we'd been kept waiting. She added that if we'd have checked the website today, (which we did) that we'd have seen that the movie would be shown tomorrow and not today. The website had no such information. And I HAD checked the website three times before we left home, because I was unable to buy tickets on-line and because all it announced was that today, at 1 PM, the film would be shown. There was no way to check the film times for tomorrow or the lineup of other available times, because the buttons I clicked on, simply would not work. Had they put just a sign in the window to say the place was closed today for a private party, it would have been a simple courtesy, especially for future customers who may or may not wish to return to a place that shows no hospitality or consideration for those wishing to come inside. Oh, finally, she did say we could come in just long enough to buy tickets for tomorow's movie. We decided to go someplace else instead. This is no way to run a show. Hope they shape up. read more

I'm sorry to say the popcorn was awful:Not freshly made on site. There were no fountain drinks, only cans of soda. I wanted to like this theatre because I live in PG but until they improve the popcorn ( fresh poped) and have fresh fountain sodas I will drive the distance to Del Monte. Also, the web site is not clear. Hard to know what is playing and at what times. I had to drive to the theatre to find out. read more

Notoriously difficult to find showtimes as they are not listed on the website, there are multiple phone numbers from multiple sources and they either are no good or have old information. As a community member NOT using facebook I have no way, other than going to the site, to find out showtimes. This isn't a good way to do business and the cinema is likely loosing business because of it. read more

I grew up coming to this movie theatre and loved the nostalgia it brought me. However I recently went back to see a movie and the new renovation and it doesn't seem like it's changed for the better. We went to see 1:15pm movie and the first red flags were that they were out of a lot at concession and then when we went into the actual theatre it wasn't a theatre at all anymore. The actual movie theatre seats have been gutted and now there are a couple couches and tables and chairs???? The lights were all on and the staff was rummaging through a pile of decorations right behind us in the corner of the room. At about 1:20 the staff finally came in and told us they weren't going to be able to play the movie and that we could go see the one next door which we did not want to see. Didn't even offer a refund... everyone seemed very lost we ended up leaving and taking the loss. read more

Such a cute vintage theater in Monterey! Free 3-hour street parking right out front. Not crowded at all, even for a new release, which is good because they don't have reserved seating (first come, first choice of seats). The workers were nice, loved that they have "junior" sized popcorn (smaller than "small"), since I don't like to eat too much.. and it was your classic buttered (optional) movie theater treat... in snack size :D The theater and auditorium were clean, and the seats were comfortable and in good shape. They don't recline, but they do lean back and the arm rests can be folded up in case you wanna cuddle with your partner during the movie ;) Also the tickets here are cheaper than other movie theaters nearby, 5pm movie on a Saturday was matinee price $8.50 (I purchased in advance on Fandango). read more

This lovely theater, treasured by most all of us Pacific Grove residents, used to be a wonderful place. It is now unfortunately being managed very poorly. I was so excited to check out the new Cafe! I brought my daughter for our weekly afternoon out, we came to see Kill Bill, she was pleasantly surprised by the new decor. And then everything went south due to poor employees. The concession stand didn't have popcorn made, so the clerk said she would bring it to us in the theater. We never got the popcorn. I came out halfway through the movie to ask, but she was nowhere to be found, the entire Cafe and lobby were completely unattended, and a fellow who look like a maintenance man expressed frustration with her as well. After several minutes of nobody minding the store, I went back into the theater. And at the end of the movie when I asked for a refund for the popcorn that we never got, my daughter and I were given the worst possible attitude by the manager, without any real reason.. she seemed to need to express some rage. read more

Doesn't publish showtimes on any of the popular movie apps. When you call the theater you get a recording prompting you to make the showtimes selection. When you do it hangs up on you without giving you any information. What are we supposed to do? I suppose you want us to just guess at what's playing and when it starts. You might get more business if you post showtimes. Till then I'll give my business to theaters that make it easy to see what's playing and when. read more

I know this theater is up for sale, and I would say the sooner the better. Today's experience was even worse than previous visits. First, the seat felt dirty, and the floor was slippery. Second, the bathrooms are filthy. read more

Nice little cinema in Pacific Grove. There's plenty of streetside parking nearby. We went in to see a matinee of West Side Story the week after Christmas. It was busier than I'd anticipated, but not packed. It's really small with the box office up front (our two tickets came out to $20.50) and a little concession stand, which had the usual boxed candy snacks, sodas and popcorn. We got a small popcorn which was nice and fresh. Inside, masks were required and everyone was wearing theirs. There was a sign somewhere recommending a seat of distance between patrons. There was enough space for each party to sit in a different row. We opted for an empty row which was kind of under the screen, I would've preferred to be further back. But the chairs did recline so you could lean back rather than looking up. I'm kinda small so it can take effort to sit back like that. The screen is small but not tiny, pretty typical for this age of theater. The sound quality was good, well enough not to really notice it. If you're in the area and want to catch a movie, this is a nice place to do so. read more

I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE MORE!! Rachel, David, and the rest of their team at Lighthouse helped me to pull off a very last minute, magical, surprise wedding rehearsal dinner for my sister and her husband. We created a video slideshow with pictures of the couple and videos of family and friends wishing them well. They had popcorn ready to go as our group of almost 50 walked in, and they even allowed us to set up a very casual dinner in the back of the theater after the "movie". They were very reasonably priced, and Rachel was available for questions and quick to respond. I cannot thank them enough for this night that we will never forget! My sister was over the moon and it was absolutely perfect. Thank you, Lighthouse!! read more

We have been patrons of this small theater for many years and have always been happy to visit. I know they are under new management and that the original owners, who also own the building, are managing it now. We were disappointed to see the conditions inside as the restrooms looked like they hadn't be cleaned for a week and the floors in the lobby really needed attention. We hope that they remain open and are successful but the lobby and restrooms really needs some detailed attention. read more

Me and my friend went to watch the new avatar movie. It was the first time I went to this movie theater as a local, and I wanted to support it. Weren't many people in the evening showing only about eight (me and my friend, two single people, and four kids that sat in the back) From the start of the movie to the 30 mins we could take, these four kids were being very obnoxious. If there was a grunt one of the characters made in the movie, the kids made a louder grunt. If there was an explosion, the kids would make more noises. Me and my friend left and went to go file a complaint with the management. I immediately asked for a refund and they gave it to me thankfully. However right after the management continued to sit down and be on their phone. I don't believe they said anything to the kids. For the other half of the experience, this theater rlly can't compete with the Del Monte one. Sad, bc I do want to support it since it's a local business; however, this experience has left an awful taste in my mouth. (This is happened a year ago) read more
