Went on a Tuesday night for burgers and drinks..... we picked the best place we could have possibly chosen! Amazing! Simply amazing! The server suggested the Maxwell burger and Pesto fries.... I asked how many people actually "liked" a burger with fried jalapeños and bacon, (and all the other standard "fixins").... but most of all, what scared me was the peanut butter that comes on it.... WHAT???? She told me to trust her... so I did.... it was gigantic and beautiful and tasted amazing! I will stop here and get that burger every time that I pass through Redding!!! read more

I went on a Wednesday night and it happened to be open mike night ! They were out of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and also out of Lost Coast Brewery Great White. I ended up getting a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale. We ordered a combination pizza. It was a good thing poeple had started going to the open mike and keeping the place entertained. The pizza took a while to come out. When it finally did, it was worth the wait. The pizza was much better than I expected. Overall, I enjoyed my visit here. I know I will be back again. read more

The beer glasses were clean and cold. This place has a vey good beer selection for such a tiny bar. I had a Racer 5 and my husband had a Moose drool. They were both the correct temperature and tasted delicious. The bartenders were nice enough. This seems like a bar where everyone who comes there is a regular or maybe it was just that kind of night. I do have to compliment the bartender for telling one of the bar patrons to calm down when he started getting a little rowdy and yelling some story where he felt the need to yell F*** every other word. This is my second visit to this current version of Maxwell's.......this meal was a yummy as the first. Would give 3 1/2 stars if I could because the service here is a bit too casual at times. The space is dark, service is ok, and the food is nothing to write home about. The menu is not very descriptive so make sure to ask what your meal is coming with. They tend to add more things to your food and that isn't necessarily a good thing. For example, the Swiss and bacon burger says it has mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. It also comes with ham and mushrooms - not a happy surprise. This made the burger very heavy and greasy. The waitress is nice and checks in but doesn't write anything down. So some of our orders were incorrect. She did offer to spilt the check for us, which we really appreciated. This place seems good for folks on road trips and has quite a few regulars. They do play good music. The bathroom is also ok - cleaner than expected. This place is more of a dive bar than a restaurant. The artwork is pretty interesting. read more

Extensive menu of your general bar-type food. Be prepared for the calories. ;) For bar food, it's pretty delicious, with nice selection of burgers, pizzas and wings to hit all taste buds. As odd as it sounds with fried jalapeños and peanut butter, I have a special place in my heart for the Maxwell Burger. If you're the adventurous type and those favors suit your fancy, make sure to check it out. Otherwise the Ortega burger is also very tasty. We have frequented Mini Max on numerous occasions and decided on going to Maxwell's last night. The place was packed and no wonder, 1/2 off burger night!!! How could we go wrong. Been here twice now, as I wanted to give it another shot after a so-so last experience. Lots of beer on tap, and they have a house-brewed root beer as well that's pretty tasty. The pizza is okay, but something about it - crust? sauce? - is weirdly reminiscent of Digiorno. Pepperoni is predictably greasy, but the pepperoncini can pack a wallop, which is appreciated. However, be prepared for something of a wait, even if you're one of the only tables in the restaurant. The biggest downfall of this place is the service element. Servers and bartenders are friendly-ish, but really inconsistent. The person who brings you drinks and takes your order may not be the one to bring the food. This wouldn't normally be a problem, but it makes for a pretty uneven experience when nothing is written down. In fact, both of my visits saw most of the staff basically vanish for the duration of the meal. No idea where they went, but leaving one guy on the floor to contend with a handful of tables plus the bar is generally not a good idea. Mine and my friend's drinks sat empty for quite some time before anyone bothered coming up to ask how we were doing. On our latest visit, we sat for a full ten minutes while leftover pizza congealed between us, waiting on a bill and a box. The only server/bartender was busy busing tables at the time. This place is your typical dive bar, however the food is anything but typical. Maxwell's pizza is seriously the best I've tasted in Redding (and I've tried many). You do pay a little extra compared to other places you can buy pizza in town, but it's so worth it! Their crust is flavored so well by various Italian herbs, and it's the perfect thickness and tenderness. I've tried all of their various pizzas on their menu and none of them disappoint. The burgers are made on fresh baked buns and the meat is so tender and juicy. I ordered the Bacon Avocado Bleu burger with onions rings. One thing I will mention, is that their onion rings had a great light and crisp batter, however it seemed flavorless. Next time I'll try their fries. Overall, way to go, Maxwell's! Excellent food, the burgers are my favorite in town. Awesome beer appetizers like fried jalapeño or pickles. Burgers are half priced on Tuesdays with purchase of a drink. The beer taps are constantly rotating, meaning a variety of craft beers to try each time you come in. They even do tap takeovers featuring specific breweries. The pesto friends were awesome! The staff seems wonderful, the bartender (I don't know his name but he is kind and considerate, he's a raiders fan but despite that is absolutely delightful lol). The beer is broad, they have about 13 on tap and range from a Lagunitas sour, to local, DIPAs, peanut butter stouts, and beers from the extended region which I greatly appreciate! My one qualm was that shortly after arriving some others (not the gentleman I referred to earlier) must have had a shift change and then sat at the bar and talked to the manager (I think?) about customers and their shifts. A great place in downtown Redding. I have been here on multiple occasions and I've never been disappointed. The food is good, typical bar food, and the service is great. They always have a good selection of craft beers on tap. This is also a great place to watch sports. And what amazes me the most is their involvement with community giving and event hosting. I was recently there for the end of the Mayors Bike Challenge. It was awesome seeing the bike community gather in a safe space, and I'm glad places like this enjoy hosting such events. read more

Just a quick trip up to Redding from the Bay area. Had lunch here and was pleasantly surprised. It was rated 4-5 stars and justly so. But I will say the service was slow (only had the bartender as a waiter - he was waiting-on about 10-tables, too). My SO and I each ordered the tortilla soup as an appetizer (then she ordered a cheese-burger and I ordered the club-sandwich). The soups took just over a half an hour. Yikes? But it was one of the best tortilla soups' I had ever tasted/ate. It was pureed in texture and was steaming hot. My club was done nicely and instead of having 3-slices of sourdough (where you can't even get your mouth around it), this was 2 slices of SD and you could easily get your mouth around it. It had all the ingredients as a triple-decker but not all the bread. Good sandwich. The SO's cheeseburger looked good. She said it was an "old fashioned" made burger, not a premade one, so while it was round (in shape), it was a rough-round. The cheese had some zip to it too (probably a mildly sharp cheedar). Food was/is excellent. Service was slow (and not just the soup). With one person serving all the tables and the bar, they should have used another server/wait-staff? It was a brisk lunch, in that the tables were just over half-full. So, it did merit another wait-person. I would have given this 5-stars if it had been properly service supported because the food was that good (way better than most bar-foods). read more

Ate here tonight with some friends, service was good. Considering it was Halloween and game 6 of the WS. One friend ate all her 'Totachos' another finished his burger! I had a slice of one friend's pizza that was very tasty now for my meal I got the fried zucchini. When she brought it out I gave her a crazy look and said wth? The fried zucchini was smothered in sweet and sour sauce!! Yuck! Why the heck would they do that? The sauce it self wasn't bad. Just didn't belong on the zucchini. I hate to be that person but I sent it back. There was NO! Mention of said sauce on the menu, if there was I would have asked for it on the side.
