In March 2022, our building management company hired Maxwell Plumbing to inspect and repair a bathroom leak in our apartment. During the repair, they replaced the plumbing with poorly fitted PVC piping. Unfortunately, 4 years later, the pipes became severely corroded and clogged, ultimately requiring a full replacement. My advice to anyone dealing with home repairs: be present if you can ask questions, and inspect the work being done. I wasn't home during the repair, and looking back, I wish I had been more involved. Taking the time to verify the quality of the work upfront can save you from ongoing plumbing issues and costly repairs later on. read more

I've used Maxwell Plumb Mechanical (MPM) over the past 12 years for my needs in the property management industry. Most recently, I had the opportunity to try them for my own needs as a homeowner. More specifically, I bought a two family home with two boilers that last looked to have been serviced in 2013, and the home inspection picked up several areas of concern with respect to the boilers. Jose showed up on or before schedule over the course of two days with two different helpers (Khalif & Jesus) and they all worked efficiently and thoroughly to leave both boilers in top form before leaving the job site for the last time today. We have used Maxwell Plumbing exclusively for our plumbing needs in NYC. They came recommended by the building superintendent, and they are very professional and competent. Most recently, we had a problem with a very high-end imported shower, and it was next to impossible to find the cartridge needed to fix it. Lauren Scafidi went above and beyond to track down the elusive part, with cheerful tenacity, thus avoiding major inconvenience in replacing the entire fixture, breaking and repairing tiles, and a considerably longer time commitment. We just had 2 showers and sink pipes and faucets replaced by Maxwell Plumbing. We were very impressed by the quality of their people. James right away was incredible during the initial scoping walkthrough and throughout the actual execution. It's very easy to get a hold of this business via email and phone, the scheduling was very professional and prompt. James and his assistant had great communication skills (in addition to plumbing obviously) and were a pleasure to have around the house, as much as remodeling projects could be pleasant. 1. hidden charges which they don't inform customers beforehand 2. worst customer service and condescending manager This plumbing company is not honest in fees and cost before hand and has hidden charges. They charged me for a 2 hours min job and $175 per hour for a simple unclogging. When I called to discuss the outrages fee, they insist that this was the policy which I wasn't inform of that it was a 2 hours minimum charges for $175 per hour. I do not appreciate that they did not provide such important information to customers which are very important in decision making. Please stay away from such dishonest company. Manager was also very condescending when I tried to discuss this issue of hidden charges with her, she didn't even bother listening and insisted that it was company policy which I wasn't inform about. Will never use this plumbing company ever again. This is just robbery in bright daylight. read more

My condo called Maxwell plumbing because we had no hot water. The plumber came into my home to check the plumbing in my master bath. As he was leaving he said "I need a plumber my faucet is broken" I immediately got up to look. It was not connected and was unfastened and moving around. I knew it was fine prior to him coming in . I went out to the hallway to tell him and he refused to even come look at what he had done. Shocking!!! He comes into my home goes underneath my sink and does something that causes the faucet to not work and refuses to fix it. I would not recommend this company read more

Unreliable, terrible customer service, unapologetic about not sticking to their appointments. Was not told that rates would double past 4:30pm from $195/hr to $390/hr when first arranging the appointment. Scheduled appointment for 1:30pm, was given a caveat that the exact time could not be guaranteed. We discussed that the plumber would be there within a reasonable timeframe and that I had a hard stop at 4pm. I was also told I would be notified when the plumber would be there. When no plumber had arrived by 2:15pm the day of the appointment, I called to ask what happened. I was told that the plumber had failed to notify the company that he would not show up until at least 3pm. I was then informed that my job would likely require 2 hours minimum and if work were to extend past 4:30pm, rates would double from $195/hour to $390 an hour. I asked to be provided with a discount for the bad experience and was told by manager Anita Leak nothing could be done, except for waiving the doubling of the fee Consistent with the other 1 star review here, I found her to be condescending. Instead of acknowledging that the service provided at these rates was unacceptable, she informed me that I should have never scheduled an appointment for 1:30pm to begin with as they "can never tell when the plumber will show up". Two weeks ago (6/24) we had an emergency here on the property, located on the Upper East Side, and I am thankful for everyone that responded, how it was promptly dispatched, handled by their workers, and then their supervisor who showed up as a second team to assist with additional issues that unexpectedly happened; I cannot speak more highly of their professionalism and patience in accurately locating and addressing the two broken kitchen drain lines that were buried inside various walls leading to our basement storage rooms, which had been flooded. What made this endeavor even more difficult to identify was that we have a commercial space between the 1st floor (really the 2nd floor) where we believed the break was from, and our basement, between which because of the commercial space above, it was even more time consuming to positively identify which line and where it was in order to repair it as promptly as possible. This was all handled with the least amount of disturbance and inconvenience to our residents. Talk about working together with a goal in mind. Maxwell Plumb, back in 2019, also expeditiously managed to check, file all the paperwork, schedule with Con Ed, and turn on gas that Con Ed had shut off, all in 1 week. Any building who has had their gas turned off, know this can take upwards of a month (if your lucky) and can even go over six months, so whether the stars were or weren't aligned for us, all I can say is that Maxwell Plumb helped align them in our favor (and I can say this because I was personally in the trenches with them). So, between that and yesterday's experience with this other crew, I wanted to state out loud that they employ very courteous, dedicated, knowledgeable, patient and responsible workers who were forthright during every step of the way. As the Building Assistant Resident Manager, I would be happy to go back in the trenches with Maxwell Plumb. That's it - where praise should be given, it should be acknowledged. read more

From the competent & understanding dispatcher Anita, to the excellent plumbing mechanic and helper that was sent, the job was done quickly, neatly and efficiently. I called and inquired if they are Union or Non Union. The gentleman who answered my call stated his name was "Matthew". Rather than answering my question he fired back wanting to know what my name was and what I needed to know this for. When I asked if he was able to answer my question, he promptly hung up on me. I used Maxwell Plumb Mechanical this week for the first time 12/22/16 and I was so impressed with the person they sent me from the beginning. His name is Gil and first and foremost he was such a gentlemen and was extremely professional which is nice to have when you are a woman who lives alone. Secondly, his knowledge of what was wrong with the system in less than a minute was amazing! He fixed the problem, wasted no time and was extremely diligent! There is no one else that I will allow to work on this system from now on. Additionally, I will be using them for not only the heating situation but everything else in the home. The whole staff was accommodating. They immediately squeezed me in for an appointment at the last minute and didn't charge me extra! This is by far the worst, most unprofessional service I've ever dealt with. They left us without air conditioning for more than 9 days in the middle of July, didn't show up, billed for hours not worked, and, best of all, said we'd have to buy a new unit because if they fixed ours, something would just break later. Mind you, the unit is a new AC system in a new building that had a short which kept blowing the transformer. Instead of fixing the short, they installed a new transformer - which was blown within an hour - and told us everything was fixed. This is after we begged them to get someone in, since we have a baby and living without AC in NYC in the middle of summer can be a health hazard when the mercury reaches the 90's every day. DO NOT USE THEM unless you want to waste your money and time. read more

I recently had a gas leak in my beautiful brand new gut renovated apartment in Manhattan the day after I moved in. The plumber for the building I live in uses Maxwell Plumb Mechanical for all of their plumbing work. When I reported the gas leak to my building manager, he immediately called Maxwell. The knowledgeable, professional and experienced team of workmen for that job (with a special shout to John and his apprentice) arrived quickly to seal the leak and turn off the gas line to my apartment. They took the time to explain to me what the problem was and what had to be done to properly repair the leak. Suffice it to say, I was mortified by having to rip out my brand new kitchen and part of my living room for the work to be done. Yet, John and his apprentice followed up with stellar workmanship in making the necessary repairs, which I truly appreciated. The office work staff is always available (with special shout outs to Nance and Harry), who are both responsive and consummate professionals by phone and by Email (responses are immediate). When it came time for me to install the necessary plumbing for my washing machine and dryer I immediately reached out to Maxwell once again. They gave me a fair price for the work to be done, which can be a rarity in Manhattan. In true form, they arrived on time to do the work, performed it in the time they said it would take to complete it and their clean up of a somewhat messy job was immaculate. Zygmund and his apprentice were amazing and worked very hard to make sure the job was done right. Zygmund is also very funny and made me laugh at a time when I found it difficult to smile. I appreciated their expertise in an intricate and somewhat difficult job. To sum it up, Maxwell is now my guru plumber. I will definitely recommend them with great confidence to anyone who might ask me for a referral. If they work for all of their clients as they did for me, then their clients are definitely in good hands. Thanks to all of the team at Maxwell for making an extremely difficult living situation for the past 7 weeks tolerable. On December 15, 2014 I setup an appointment with Maxwell Mechanical for 9:00 am today(12/23/2014). I spoke to Cynthia and called and confirmed the appointment. We are building a Coffee Shop and needed a mechanical contractor that could do all necessary work such as HVAC and sprinkler system installaton, plumbing and sewer work, flooring, walls, you name it we need it. Our appointment was set up with Kenny. He never showed up never even bothered calling. At 10:30 am I called the company and Cynthia said that she would find out and get back to me. When she called back she claimed that Kenny had an emergency and couldn't come today. We are leasing a space from MTA and I told them several times that today was our only showing day and that both myself and my partner work full time and that we really needed them to be on site. They didn't care! Cynthia even told me that I should find another company next time I need this kind of work! It's a one big boloni company!!!! read more
