While located on Main Street in Falmouth, this is not a typical clothing store. Maxwells is a high end boutique with curated beautiful clothes and unparalleled service. They also have an excellent tailor and a great sale room in back. Very current clothes and chic--which is expensive. Maxwells is a destination boutique that draws from far away and has a loyal clientele. That it is near tee shirt shops does not make it bad--just surprising. I was staying in Falmouth with my family for the weekend prior to an important potential client interview in Osterville on the following Monday, and around 2pm on Sunday I realized I had forgotten the hanging bag that held my freshly pressed interview outfit at home. I woefully left my family on the beach and headed downtown to look for something stylish and professional. I wove in and out of stores along Main Street full of polyester coverups and sensible fleece vests, getting more and more desperate and stressed as the clock ticked closer to 5pm. When I walked into Maxwell & Co. I breathed a sigh of relief and asked for help. A senior saleswoman generously took me under her wing and handpicked pieces for me from their extensive reduced-price selection that better suited my budget. I ended up with a pair of classic structured white linen blend pants that I'll probably wear for the next 5 summers, and because they were too long, she even had them rush tailored in-house within the hour! There is nothing like excellent customer service. Next time, I'll return (under better circumstances) for the gorgeous tie-dye cashmere and a pair of Golden Goose Superstars. Maxwell & Co is a quality designer boutique on the main street of Falmouth. The merchandise is eye-catching, but be warned that you will be paying a pretty penny for any garment in the store. I have been coming here for about a Year now and have clothing from all seasons and i've gotta say I'm thoroughly impressed. They hand select and order garments from world-class designers like Buttero, Dreis Van Noten, Transit-- the list goes on. I'm always impressed with their new styles and it keeps me coming back for more. The staff has always been very helpful in deciding 'what looks better on me' or 'what would my sister like more as a gift.' I've had countless compliments on my outfits picked out by Shaun (you have a good eye, you sly devil) and when i need a gift for a girlfriend i'm at M&C talking to the ladies. The best part yet is the alteration. If you find a garment that doesn't quite fit your look, they can couture the piece for you. I was absolutely stunned how my Mason's joggers came out after they completed the alterations. I can't say i've owned anything that compliments my figure more-so. Maxwell and Co is a fashion staple if you're in the Falmouth area. I would recommend the shop to anyone who is willing to pay a decent amount of money for quality, cutting edge fashion. 5/5 will be back for more!!! read more

I ordered a dress for our family photos. When the dress came it was wrinkled, poorly made and cheap material. I returned the dress within 14 days but as a first time customer I did not realize the return policy is 10 days. Most companies give you 30 days so I was surprised. I received a credit and purchased two sweaters. The first sweater literally fell apart while I was wearing it on a trip to the grocery store. I had to go home and change. The second sweater came smelling terrible and with many times through the washer it still smells. It is unwearable. All I want is my money back. This company has worthless, overpriced clothing and customer service that will not stand by their products. I am disappointed with my experience and I don't want anyone else to waste their money. read more

I have to say that my Husband and I shop Maxwell and Co and have since 1989 Our experience has been nothing short of amazing. It is such a treat to have your own personal stylist to work with. Their collections are a diverse selection of unique Designers all hand picked by people that love what they do. I can be in town or in another state and still appreciate the same hands on service. I have had the worst experience with this company from them sending me items that don't match their website description or sizing to a complete nightmare of a return process and now telling me I'll only get store credit at a business I would never support again. Customer service is awful with very poof communication or no response to questions. Their products are so-so and way overpriced. AVOID. read more

No doubt you might feel awkward if you go in here looking like a normal person. If you think splurging on a Marc Jacobs bag makes you a member of high end fashion, the prices in this store will curb any and all of that smugness. That said, the designers you find at Maxwell & Co make quality clothing and accessories that you likely can't find anywhere outside the big cities. They do often have pretty decent sales at the end of the season, but 50% off $800 is still more than I want to pay for a pair of gloves. The only items I've ever purchased here were very much on sale and made of cotton. I tried outsmarting them and looked online to find a skirt I liked in their shop on the sale rack and literally couldn't find in anywhere else, so if you're looking for exclusive, obscure high fashion, and don't mind spending the money, this place is a gem. I often went in because I loved that they carried Kiehl's products...and at the same prices as at the Kiehl's store or Nordstroms, but over the last year or so things have gone very bad in this area. They were often out of the more popular products and twice I ordered them and never even heard back from the store. The most recent time was LAST Christmas almost a year ago and when I followed up 3 times in the store asking about the order they told me each time they were having "problems with the representative" and would call me when it came in. After almost 7 months of waiting for what was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my mom, I just gave up, never hearing anything from them. Not exactly the kind of service you'd expect from a store that charges $800 for gloves...then again I often feel like they're wondering what I'm doing in their store wearing Levis. read more

As fancy as clothes get, be it Cape Cod or Manhattan. It's like a mini Bergdorf with the latest brands that are not trendy. Classic clothing at its best. Nothing you buy there will be dated, but will put a dent in your wallet. Actually, it's the same pricing any other store selling the same level of stuff. They have some interesting clothing with a range of prices, mostly on the high end. What we noticed it that the sales people WILL NOT look at you at all. They smile and look around you so you have to ask for help. It is clearly intentional. I had to ask the salesman, who was standing around looking pretty, it he worked there and if so, would he help. Then he was helpful to my husband. I was looking at women's sweaters and a young woman walked past me several times and didn't bother to ask if I needed or wanted help. There is a balance between obnoxiously overbearing and the blatant behavior they exhibit. Just a bit pretentious. read more

I visit Falmouth every summer and during the holidays and always make sure to stop in to Maxwell & Co. They have such beautiful and unique clothing, as well as gorgeous jewelry pieces for every day or if you are looking for that great statement piece. I was greeted with a friendly smile as soon as I walked in. The saleswoman knew just how to fit the clothes on me and understands the trends. She was an absolute joy. I love this place, they have awesome clothing and great product lines. They have been around for quite sometime and a classic cape store. The staff is exquisite, the minute you walk in they greet you and are willing to help with anything you are looking for. Another aspect is tailoring, my sister has had a few things shortened or taken in, and has been pleased everytime. They do stock the Kiehl's skin line, which is super, but when I purchased a face cream the saleswoman told me I should think about getting myself some other products as well to "make me look more presentable." That was last summer - I haven't seen her since - but be warned, you're working with the presumed creme de la creme. This is the best high end boutique on the cape (and islands too! Sorry nantucket) with an interesting and even price varied inventory sure to please the serious shopper. I travel from palm beach to Cambridge to New York--and this is one of my favorites for interesting and unusual finds. And the staff is friendly and helpful if you need that--they also are ok with just browsing, which I do a lot of. I have benn shopping at Maxwell & Co for several summers. I find the service to be very helpful, friendly and honest (if it doesn't look right, they'll tell you!). The manager, Doug, is expecially warm and helpful, and all the sales staff are knowledgable. They carry great men's clothes, as well as women's, which means that my husband and I can BOTH enjoy shopping at the same time. Their sales are substantial, if you can wait until mid-way through a season to purchase. They offer excellent alterations, free shipping and a generous return policy.
