Nice vibe here at Max's and they have 102 beers on tap. Yes, one hundred and two beers on tap. That's more than a few. That's more than a lot. That's a shedload. And many of them, I've never seen before! So I found a quiet corner, ordered a draft beer, and sucked down as much of their wifi as I could. It's a neat spot and they have food, too. Very, very cool! Oh, and that draft beer? $4. Yep, that's a bargain. Bruce likes Max's. Will return when I'm back in Fells Point. read more

I'll just get this out right now..... Max's Taphouse has the largest selection of beer on tap and in bottles that we have ever seen, anywhere. With over 97 taps and 2000 in bottles, it's hard to commit to just one. Even though I scoured the list over and over, it was almost impossible and honestly I can't remember them either. They have beer from many different countries, small craft batches, seasonals, every single type and variety possible. We came here one night before dinner in Fells Point, we were so impressed we came back for more and even bought three bottles to take back home. We like to collect beer like some collect wine. They have Happy Hour Specials during the week and we got a Buy-One Draft get one Draft from the Water Taxi ride. They let you sample what's on tap and give great recommendations. I'd come here often if I was local, because you know you'll always be able to try something new every time. read more

3.5/5: Max's Taphouse is an amazing and vibrant place for beer and to hang out with friends any day of the week. It has such a wide drink selection from your ales, to pilsners, to stouts, to IPAs, to seasonal drinks. The service is pretty quick and the bartenders are very friendly and on their feet when it comes to getting you your drink. The food however was a major disappointment. I ordered the chorizo quesadilla (was supposed to come with guacamole and chips on the side) but there was no guacamole to be found :( we also ordered the tator tot side and the fish tacos. Everything was SO SO SO So Sooooooooo freaking salty. I honestly couldn't stomach half of the food because it was doused in so much salt which made it very painful to eat after the second quesadilla. I understand that Max's Taphouse isn't known for their food but the fact that they have a massive food menu (which I thought was grossly overpriced and inedible after the first few bites) was a major turn off for me. My suggestion would be to stick with the drinks here and take your dining options elsewhere since you have so many delicious places to eat. Bar food is bar food but this was by far one of the worst bar foods I have had (and I LOVE food...so me saying this is pretty painful). Also the place starts getting packed around 9/9:30 pm on Fridays/Saturdays so just come early if you want a more intimate and quiet scene. read more

Five stars because of how amazingly kind and friendly the staff is here and because I really liked the frozen boysenberry slushie. I was wandering around Fells Point and wasn't feeling well. I figured it was heat exhaustion (it was actually much worse) and the thought of slushie (albeit boozy) was appealing. Only I would think like this. Per my receipt, my friendly server at the walk-up window was Scooter. He told me I did need to keep the drink at Max's tables but that I could also go inside to use the bathroom, which was appreciated. The drink was tasty and refreshing, even though I couldn't finish it. While walking through inside, I heard some dope tunes (ATCQ or Gang Starr, if I remember correctly), so it seems like after COVID, this might be my type of place. Also seems like shenanigans might happen here and I'm always down for shenanigans. Highly recommend Max's frozen drinks when in Fells. read more

Amazing happy hour! $8 for 32oz of select drafts- cannot be beat. Huge selection and variety of beers, friendly service, and tasty food.

First time here in a very long time. But the place doesn't change, just gets better and more enjoyable. Came in with friends who come here regularly, practically every weekend, so they knew the bartender on a first name basis. Had a blood orange cider on tap and it was good and flavorful. I, personally, favor hard cider to beer, but that's just me. My friends had lots of different beers, some on tap, some in cans and seemed to thoroughly enjoy them. It was NCAA March Madness, so the games were on the many TVs. Didn't have any food here, but watched several friends have nachos and quesadillas and other bar food that looked good. Reasonably priced, very loud, but its a bar, what do you expect! Enjoyable time at a local staple that's been around for years. Highly recommend a visit if you are in Fells Point or downtown Baltimore. read more

This place was horrible. They were very unkind, and honestly disrespectful. They were very rude to me when and seemed to not care about the service. I was excited about this place, but after the way they treated me I would not recommend. There are much better places to go to. Do not go to this place! read more

AMAZING! Not only can you go here and get like 200 different beers, but the Food was ridiculously good too. We have mussels white, a mushroom quesadilla, and some pork tacos (on special). The shroom quesadilla was HUGE and sooooo good. The grilled portabellas were almost like steak! gorgonzola, spinach, and artichokes were great additions. Pork tacos on special may have been the BEST tacos I have EVER eaten. So simple and flavorful. The Mussels white were also incredible in the garlicky broth! I have been here 3 times, this was the first time I ate here....I Cannot Wait to return! Some awesome beers and awesome food, it's a MUST TRY. read more

There's something for everyone at Max's Taphouse, provided that something is a type of beer! Max's, the self proclaimed "Land of Beer," has 102 beers on tap, and nearly 1700 varieties of bottles and cans for you to try. I highly recommended their "Big A$$ Draft" promotion-Fridays until 8, select 32 oz drafts are only $7 (they're truly monstrous pours). In the pre-COVID days, Thursday trivia nights in the upstairs room were always a blast. One of the best, most fun and eclectic tap houses that I've ever been to in my short 54 years. Gregarious crowd, extensive choices. If you are a local, you already know about Max's. If you are reading this, don't hesitate, just go. There was a happy hour on the Friday evening that we visited and a good portion of the tremendous beer menu was offered at a mere 7 bucks for a big gulp sized styrofoam cup... even those with higher ABV. There was also some kind of taco special and the Rock Fish ones were exceptional. Hot sauce gave them quite a kick. We were there on a night that Troegs was hosting a tap takeover of their First Squeeze Nugget Nectar. Fun times, great place. All ages, sizes and colors. read more

Max's is a Maryland staple and has the most amazing beer selection I've ever seen. On top of that, they have a board across from the bar that has great bottle selections for anywhere from $3-$10, even though many of these select bottles are worth far more than that or are hard to find. Although I've been in from anything between an afternoon beer to a late night bar hop, I've never tried the food until my last visit. I was craving my favorite thing in the world- a crab pretzel- and asked if they had one. I won the jackpot on that, and put in an order for a pretzel and a Boh. For $12, you get a whole lot of pretzel with artichoke & crab dip and boy, is it amazing. This one surely goes down in history as my favorite crab pretzel ever, and that's not an easy feat for a born and raised Marylander. read more

Never so overwhelmed by a beer menu in my life. So much goodness (87 drafts that evening) to choose from and so little time. Only complaint was that it's dimly lit and in the light I now see that there were many beers I wished I had tried. Started with 5 oz sample pours of 4 fairly local (MD and DE) NEIPAs on Friday's extensive tap menu. Monument City NOBO 2 ways, regular and mosaic cask. Both juicy and quite nice. 3rd Wave Check Ya Bro, malty, bitter and juicy in a balanced kinda way and best for me was the Key Brewing Across the Tracks, hopped up and tropical. Afterwards, Troegs repping and serving Nugget Nectar 5 ways, had the $7 special, which must have been a full quart!. Troegs giveaways included a collectors bottle opener and some mad art event prints including a 2018 Baltimore poster. Friday night crowd was loud and lively and friendly. Talked to everyone and anyone and had a generally great evening. Lisa E. ordered from the happy hour taco menu. She finished the 2 rockfish and exclaimed they were great. Gave me a bite of the other, was excellent but with the beer in me, can't recall if it was chorizo or pork! Max's was a pleasant walk from the harbor on an unseasonably warm late January night , Uber back to the hotel was there in seconds and cost only $6. Of the many, many, many pubs, bars and watering holes in Fells Point, this place calls to me and I will be back! Highly recommended read more

Great beer and food, with a laid back atmosphere! Staff are friendly and helpful, and all around this place is a great spot.

This met all of my expectations for a typical tavern and exceeded expectations with their many beer options, choices for food, and friendly staff. I am a huge fan of Max's. My favorite night to go are Wednesdays for pint night where you get to take home the cup that you drink out of. whenever I come here I always get an awesome eclectic range of different types of beers to try from IPAs to lagers to stouts to even nitrobrews. My only complaint is that if you get a seat at one of the high tables in order to order a drink you have to walk over to the bar which can take a decent amount of time to get the attention of a bartender. Other than that Max's an awesome place to go to - I love their happy hours and I love all the different types of beers I get to try. It's one of my favorite places to unwind at after work. read more

Although COVID has ruined a lot of things, I do love that it has forced a bunch of bars to open up outdoor seating. Max's Taphouse did a pretty good job with this by selling drinks out of a window (they could make their sign with the drink options a little bigger though) and offering happy hour prices with some 32oz drinks at $7, and having wooden booth type tables along the street. Overall I was pretty happy with the experience, and the beer was pretty good! read more

just walked in there with some friends, planning on enjoying a meal and a beer. wasn't greeting at the door, 2 bartenders sitting at the bar didn't even acknowledge us nor did the guy working on his taxes at the table beside us. won't be returning for sure. did not like the atmosphere of the business. read more

My boyfriend and I went for a couple drinks after having a great time at Saturday brunch at another location in Fells Point . The vibe and energy at Max's left a lot to be desired. I really liked this place. Solid comfort food, great beer, very reasonable prices, really nice staff. We had wings and tater tot nachos with BBQ pork. Both were really good. Tough to find a veggie on the menu, so if you are trying to eat healthy, probably not the place for you. Or do what I did - kick healthy eating to the curb for one meal and enjoy! Only downside: it is loud and crazy. Good for extroverts. And little intimidating for an introvert like me. read more

Max's is a bar that specializes in beer, and they have a huge selection of beers on tap. On their menu the ones in bold are the local Maryland beers. I went with a big group of law enforcement guys from New Jersey, and they were impressed with the place. Back in our area, we don't have such a large selection. Everyone in our big group could get exactly what they want. Other reviewers complained that the lack of table service is a negative. With our group, I preferred it that way because we did not have waitresses breathing down our neck when most people just wanted to enjoy beer. Additionally, the bartenders were responsive and easy to flag down, even though we weren't sitting right at the bar. read more

Bottom Line: A place for 20 somethings and early 30 somethings to drink a variety of good craft beer and maybe supplement it with some bar food. I love really good beer but as someone in my late 30s I felt too old for Max's. I appreciate the warm greeting from the bouncers (that's rare) and the long list of delicious craft beer but the atmosphere is very dive bar like with grungy tables and no service. I can see where this would be a fabulous place for a group of friends to gather to quaff craft beer but for a party of two looking for tasty grub and grog, Max's wasn't the best place. Primarily the awkward seating (mostly large community tables) and having to places orders at the bar weren't for me. read more

One word. WOW! My wife and I had a 1-night stay in the area. We usually like to explore the area but we ended up coming back to Max's 3 times - the IPA selection was that good! Not only that, but the service was awesome as well. We started with some flights earlier in the day, and when we came back at dusk, the owner immediately recognized us and suggested other beers on tap. The food is typical pub food. While we didn't have any problems with the food we ordered, nothing really stood out either. This is a true pub, and in my mind, that is a good thing. Great job Max's. Horrible customer service. I'm aware places tend to get busy and that's understandable. However, my order for 5 people was completely wrong and they had to place the orders twice which took 30+ minutes. By the time the food was corrected, we all lost appetites and by no means was I looking for "free food giveaway". I asked to speak to a manager and she stated "No, they're too busy in the kitchen" and never came out to hear me out. If you're a manager you have to maintain professional customer service because I am in sales and know how to cater to customers in good or bad situations and experiences. Never coming here again. read more

Pretty spectacular beer selection, per their reputation. Enjoyed a sour/red ale, and got a good pour ~12 oz. for $10. What I noticed most though, on a weeknight mind you, was the overwhelming bro culture. This might be standard for East coast cities/bars, but it why West coast ppl feel holier-than-thou. Why the misogyny? It's one thing when the guys are loud and drunk and ogling ladies - that's just guys at bars - but this place sells merch that jokes about domestic violence. "No wife beaters...we mean the shirt." Aaaanyway, good beer, bros are obnoxious. read more

Max's is fantastic. Incredible beer selection at reasonable prices. I'm a big fan of Belgian beers and there were a ton of incredible options on the menu including some options I hadn't seen before. Love the relaxed tavern vibe on the inside and will definitely go back next time I'm in Baltimore. Only complaint - there aren't prices on the menu. The three beers we got totaled $18 so I don't know if every beer is $6 or how that works, but I didn't care all that much at that point. read more
