Great little gem in the town of Perth! Friendly service, delicious food, and reasonably priced. The German menu feels authentic, and everything tastes great and very filling. Would definitely come back!

And I'm a very harsh critic of Hungarian food seeing as how my grandmother was a HONGARIAN and she made the very BEST of the BEST. SO FINE! Last time we were there the restaurant was busy. The food took absolutely forever to arrive but it was very delicious. And a very apologetic owner/chef came out to see that we were ok. When does that ever happen? That's class! Now, a year later, we live in COVID land and we were craving some schnitzel for our once a week order out. We called the place and it just so happened it was his first day back!! The menu was wrong, he made some substitutions, and we had to wait about 30 minutes to get out order...but the food was AWESOME! Schnitzel was giant and super. Crispy and delicious. Spaetzle and sauerkraut were both BOSS! We had leftovers for another day as well. Highly recommend (but they are slow and twice is a trend). Also a note to the owner: fix your online presence immediately and get your ass on social media! Hire some help. This will make a big difference for your bottom line and we want you to stick around!!!

Food is hand prepared to order and served by Europeans. The schnitzel is so big it could easily be cut in half to serve two people. Even something as simple as spatzle is prepared with fried onion to make it more interesting. It is not cheap but fortunately all prices include a side salad. Just missing the alcoholic beverages to make this 5 star. I think this is why some reviewers felt that the wait was too long. It didn't take any longer than expected for our freshly prepared food cooked to perfection!

Rounding up from a 3.5. My husband picked up some schnitzel on the way home, so I only tried it…read moreover an hour later. Because it was in the cardboard container for so long, by the time my husband got home the container was kind of damp from the heat and moisture, and some of the sauerkraut stuck to the bottom. I originally just wanted the wiener schnitzel, though they use pork cutlet instead of the traditional veal specifically for wiener schnitzel. I decided to go with the mushroom schnitzel instead, since it seemed popular. I asked for the mushroom sauce on the side instead of on top because I didn't want the schnitzel to be soggy after travelling. It had been awhile since I had spaetzle, so I got that and braised cabbage instead of the standard potatoes and gravy and steamed veggies it came with. My husband got me a large schnitzel, which I'm glad he did because it was quite thin and the large was a good size. I was hesitant to reheat it because it was so thin and I didn't want to overcook it. I was also super hungry (I didn't eat lunch beforehand to save the room) and didn't want to wait. The schnitzel was good with the slice of lemon as well as the mushroom sauce. The creamy mushroom sauce tasted like Campbell's condensed mushroom soup with some mushrooms added, but that's actually one of my favourite canned soups so I can't complain. The only downside was that it was cold and thickened in the containers, so I probably should've reheated the sauce. The spatzle seemed a bit overcooked because it was a bit gummy. I was surprised to find it had the same mushroom sauce on top of it. It was ok, but it would've been better with just butter, and probably would've been a much better texture if I had it freshly made. There was plenty of braised red cabbage. It wasn't too sour and surprisingly sweeter than I expected, but good and hearty. This definitely would've been better in a non-cardboard container, but more environmentally friendly, I guess. My husband got the large Cordon Bleu schnitzel that was stuffed with black forest ham and cheese, whipped potatoes with gravy, and steamed broccoli and carrots. I tried the schnitzel and while good, I still liked mine better with the sauce on top. The potatoes were pretty good, very smooth with a dark gravy, but not sure if they were homemade. Overall good, filling meal. Would love to go there and eat-in someday so that the food is still hot and fresh!

It's an old school family run businesses, and if I'm being extra honest, small town family run are some of my favorite businesses around, but they can also be the beneficiaries of being busy because there's less choice and they're not very good. Not the case here. You're likely to get served by the friendliest server north of the border, Marie. She was the ONLY server in a busy restaurant, I believe this was by design, as she doesn't skip a beat. Super friendly and helpful, and not the least bit bothered by the fact she's got a full house all to herself and many others in her place would be flustered. Any questions we have, she was ready to answer in a helpful manner. She gets six stars in a five star town. Awesome. I ordered the schnitzel and my god, MY GOD, it's freaking delicious!! Total home run, zero complaints about this amazing dish. Those overly crisped spots that you often get on a schnitzel because it's a bit thin and thus tricky to cook? Not here. Perfect breading. Portion the size of a license plate. Comes with what looks like bread, but is actually a flour dumpling cut like bread. It's topped with home gravy which is tasty without being too salty, often the case with gravy. Veg side has a nice sweetness to it and the tartar sauce is a awesome mix of herbs and garlic. The dish I got didn't include sauerkraut, but I sampled from my moms plate and it's also a home run. Amazing consistency and taste. I don't know if they make this in house, but I'd guess they do and if they don't, they've chosen well. The chefs here have gotten their levels down to a tee, and it's amazing. Last, but definitely not least, the prices. For two people, schnitzel and sausage dinner (comes with two sausages, rice, and a generous side of sauerkraut) it was $40. How they do this I don't know, but this is a business run out of love, not for pure profit. It's an amazing deal, and amazing food and service to make it the trifecta! If you're in the Smiths Falls area, go here. Worth the trip!

While we wanted to sit on the patio, outside, where it was packed, the 6 year old made the decision to dine indoors, away from the wasps. We were the only diners indoors, sigh. It was so nice outside too!! Anywho, I wish we looked over the menu prior, because there wasn't anything "kid friendly" on the menu (now looking online, there is a small kids menu, which we were never given). We stuck with a small bowl of fries for the kids, which we ordered promptly, and it arrived promptly. The hubby and I also had a hard time deciding what we wanted to eat. He went with a prime rib sandwich and I went with the crudo salad. He enjoyed the sandwich, and upgraded his fries to a poutine which was good. My crudo salad was boring. I'm trying to eat healthier when dining out, but it was very, very boring, and quiet large. Enough for two to share. I actually ponded half of it off to my husband, which he tried refusing. The salad was super oily, consisting of mostly arugula, with some bocconcini, crispy chickpeas, green beans, red onion cucumber and tomato. It was missing some zing. Service was OK, I guess. I think the bartender may have been serving us, since we were the only diners indoors. She tried her best, was nice, and brought us what we needed when we asked, checked in on us once, but it was not very attentive. My water glass was never refilled, and we had to ask for other drink refills, while other water glasses sat empty. Settling the bill took a while. And while I appreciate not being rushed out, the kids were getting restless. There are too many great restaurants in the downtown core. I'd skip this one, there was really nothing to write home about here.
