Lovely place to stop for lunch. The food quality was excellent. The service was very friendly and accommodating of our many special requests. I highly recommend that you choose The Granary of you get the opportunity to eat here!

Bavarian schnitzel

Had a lovely meal here; looks like they've shaped up in recent years. Very nice and colorful interior, and I really liked the Bavarian style schnitzel (pork cutlet stuffed with ham, sauerkraut, havarti, and spicy mustard). No complaints, though the mashed potatoes and gravy tasted like they were not made by scratch.

I was on my way back home after visiting with family, and a family friend suggested we eat here. I…read moreknew nothing about the place other than that they liked it. Consider me convinced. It's an old school family run businesses, and if I'm being extra honest, small town family run are some of my favorite businesses around, but they can also be the beneficiaries of being busy because there's less choice and they're not very good. Not the case here. You're likely to get served by the friendliest server north of the border, Marie. She was the ONLY server in a busy restaurant, I believe this was by design, as she doesn't skip a beat. Super friendly and helpful, and not the least bit bothered by the fact she's got a full house all to herself and many others in her place would be flustered. Any questions we have, she was ready to answer in a helpful manner. She gets six stars in a five star town. Awesome. I ordered the schnitzel and my god, MY GOD, it's freaking delicious!! Total home run, zero complaints about this amazing dish. Those overly crisped spots that you often get on a schnitzel because it's a bit thin and thus tricky to cook? Not here. Perfect breading. Portion the size of a license plate. Comes with what looks like bread, but is actually a flour dumpling cut like bread. It's topped with home gravy which is tasty without being too salty, often the case with gravy. Veg side has a nice sweetness to it and the tartar sauce is a awesome mix of herbs and garlic. The dish I got didn't include sauerkraut, but I sampled from my moms plate and it's also a home run. Amazing consistency and taste. I don't know if they make this in house, but I'd guess they do and if they don't, they've chosen well. The chefs here have gotten their levels down to a tee, and it's amazing. Last, but definitely not least, the prices. For two people, schnitzel and sausage dinner (comes with two sausages, rice, and a generous side of sauerkraut) it was $40. How they do this I don't know, but this is a business run out of love, not for pure profit. It's an amazing deal, and amazing food and service to make it the trifecta! If you're in the Smiths Falls area, go here. Worth the trip!

I'm sort of stuck giving this place a 3.5star and 4 stars…read more The menu is selective for lunch and dinner. We decided to come for the dinner. We ordered mussels - pretty good, large portion!,then started tasting a bit salty. The seared trout with leek, corn, tomatoes and wild rice was ok, the trout was a tad dried, not by much. The chicken supreme which is their signature dish look good. I had a taste of the chicken, it was good...but not great. Kids had spaghetti, and chicken fingers and fries. Desert was very good!! Service was very good!! A tad slow on refilling my water, i had to ask twice, but she came right away to refill. We were there for an early dinner -5pm, so the place was not busy at all. People started coming in just before 7pm. I kind of expected more, but it is what it is. 3.5 - 4 stars for food 4 stars for service

Ordered a drink.went to order dinner and found they were out of two appetizers we picked. That was the last straw. Paid 30 bucks for the two drinks and left. Very disappointed. Not sure why they have a 4+ star review. Note this restaurant recently changed owners. What might have been a good place to eat is now not. Their web page is out of date and the 4+ star reviews are not from this year 2025. Google should change out the old reviews so we get accurate recent reviews.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Cute little bistro in Perth, ON…read more We lucked out and they had lobster rolls on their menu when we were there. They were delicious. The Long Version: The hubster and I had lunch at the Rocky River Cafe and it was fantastic. They have their regular menu but then they also have a special menu that changes daily. We were thrilled to see lobster rolls on their special menu the day we went. It was $23.95 for a lobster roll, coleslaw and fries or a salad. I got mine with the salad and my husband got his with fries. The lobster roll was big, much bigger than at other places out east. The bun was like a hoagie rather than a hot dog bun. Bigger is always better! Lol. The lobster meat was plentiful and really tasty. I liked that they didn't mix the lobster meat with the mayo but rather slathered the bread with mayo and filled the sandwich with buttered lobster meat. It made it easier for me to remove some of the mayo, since I'm not a huge fan of mayo. The bun was soft and fresh. I had asked for the salad dressing on the side and the server even wrote it down because she said "oh I have to write that down." Despite all this, the salad came dressed :( It was a bit overdressed for my liking, but not excessively so, and we were hungry, so I just ate it. It was a spring mix, a slice of cucumber (it was cut on the oblique, so not as stingy as it sounds), a ring of red pepper and a few grape tomatoes cut into quarters. The dressing was an herb vinaigrette. My husband's fries were delicious. I sort of regretted not getting fries, haha. The coleslaw was mayo based and had cabbage and carrots. It did not have much seasoning to it. I did not enjoy it and gave most of it to my husband. My husband also had a coffee after the meal ($3.25). Service was pleasant. We chose to sit in the little front room which just had 3 tables in it, so it's a bit secluded and quieter. The main dining room is bigger and more open. We enjoyed being in the small room but it was a bit cold in there. I don't think the insulation is good (it was freezing outside). Washrooms are upstairs and were also very cold. Although oddly the landing before the washrooms was very warm. There was no hot water in the washrooms. Only ice cold water to wash hands. Yikes. Despite the cold washrooms and cold dining area at the front of the restaurant, and my overdressed salad, I still really enjoyed my meal and would return. Street parking or paid parking lot parking only, but street parking is free for 2 hours and lot parking is free on weekends. Review #38 (2025)

If you don't have an allergy, give it a try.
