Halibut Seafood Platter includes fish, chips, shrimp, scallop and clams!!

I've been to Bancroft a handful of times before but this is the first time we decided to stop by the fish and chip restaurant and it the best choice! The fish was cooked perfectly. Loved the batter, it was flaky and easy to break apart. We ordered the halibut seafood platter and it was so delicious! Large portion perfect for two people. They just had whitefish in their store now, not the freshwater kind but the one from South Africa, next time we pass by Bancroft we are definitely going to come back and have our fish and chip fixings!! The building is super cute and even has a small door for the kids to walk through! Inside is beautiful decorated just like a cottage :) Staff are so nice and friendly and it was the owner (Diane)'s birthday today so we sang her happy birthday :) love the community up here! If you want a good place to eat during your pitstop or during your stay in or near Bancroft I would definitely recommend this place!

My husband and I were craving some tasty fish and chips and decided to stop for lunch before heading home. We saw fresh pickerel on the menu but instead chose the tender Halibut and local Ontario spuds with their homemade coleslaw and original tartar sauce. The generous and down-to-earth owner served us personally. She tended to my husband's halibut with such care, it was obvious she loved her job. While the food was great, their restaurant was a tad quaint, although this was definitely part of the charm. We picnicked behind the restaurant, admiring their beautiful view of York River. The fresh fish was expertly fried, and the hand-cut french fries were so good that we fought over them like kids.

Large portion of fresh halibut and chips.

When I cut it open it was red in centre. The other burger was cooked through. I had brought it up and showed them. The gentleman that was apparently the guy who cooked it looked at it and says they are all cooked the same six mins each side. I would like to mention no customer service at all. I explained it's raw. I can't eat it like this. If you can please cook this more. I didn't ask for another burger. I was being nice about it. He grumbled at me took it out back and with in two mins was back the the same burger that looked completely man handled and proceeds to tell me I was wrong, he cooked it right and it is cooked properly what I am seeing is ketchup. I am not an idiot. It was raw. Obviously there was no point to try and ask again. We just couldn't believe the lack of service and the even more lack of pride in what they do. I wish I would have taken a picture. Clearly red and raw. We both agreed it was a clear sign of how they run their business and will be sure to tell all our friends. There are a lot of chip trucks that respect their customers and have pride in the food they make. Stay clear of this place.

My cousins who was visiting us from Holland was so hungry that she ended up eating part of her soggy, oily & cold fish'n chips, but I asked Madison to get me a fresh meal because I didn't mind waitinga little longer, but instead she left with my old food & resumed taking other customers orders, about 20 mins. later I managed to get her attention & asked her where my food is & that I'm still waiting to eat & she very rudely says "you didn't want it so i took it to the kitchen", but I told her i'm hungry & still want to eat, but by that point they had run out of fries so I was S.O.L since I didn't want onion rings with the fish & that was the 1st time Madison even offered me an alternative for my dinner because as I said she left with my old food withoutsayinga word. I had to wait until I got home to eat. If that's not bad enough my husband asked for condiments, but instead she forgets & goes & take other customers orders, then he had to chase other staff outside to get condiments & his burger was cold. I sent a complained to the owner Allison & she offered 25.00 gift card but didn't acknowledge my husband's cold food & made a bunch of excuses about how she's not apologizing for her freezer breaking down. She should have had a backup plan like cutting their own potatoes & making home fries instead of telling customers that they ran out of fries. Which makes no sense to my family and I who had a horrible experience at this restaurant! I'm forgoing the $25 gift card due to reading other customers reviews giving this restaurant a 3.6 stars which I wished I had read before wasting our hard earned money & it was so embarrassing because we brought our cousin's from Europe to this location. Hope they improve their customer service & have a backup plan if their freezer breaks down again. The manager should apologize for it because customers are eating there because they've hungry & don't want to know why they ran out of items on the menu!

We don't like to leave our little poodle at home, he has separation anxiety; we were disappointed to discover that customers w dogs are relegated to picnic tables on the road/lake side. Before, the chairs on the patio were comfortable/good quality outdoor furniture, but I guess these have been moved to a new, second patio which is dog free but still outside. I brought the cushion my dog sits on in the floor and outdoors, so I sat on it on the hard bench picnic table, ha ha. The shrimp appetizer reflected its frozen journey. The predecessor restaurant always has super seafood. The Thai Mussels were small but a really phenomenal sauce (different from the red curry I've had, it was tomato based and delicious, we sucked it down quickly). Husband's burger was bland and disappointing: I talked him into a side salad instead of fries; the salad used iceberg lettuce and was also disappointing. This was our 29th anniversary dinner so he was quite disappointed and says he will not return to this resto. My Lobster roll was really lovely (should be for $34) but very slow coming and missing the grilled corn on the menu. Service was friendly. One of the owners dropped by to chat when we first arrived Drink list is good...while we were waiting and waiting for our burger and roll I ordered a third glass of wine; together w his two beers and the four dishes, our total bill was $195 w tax and tip. A bit much for two disappointing dishes at a picnic table. This is not fine dining in my view, but Summerkiss is a hard act to follow. We are heading to Lands8fifty in Harcourt for my birthday dinner this week; it also represents itself as offering fine dining and I really hope it follows through
