Loved the elevated flavors! We arrived at the beginning of lunch and by the time we wrapped up, this place was packed! Upon driving up to The Granite, you can see it's located right on the river with a deck facing it, and it looks to be an older converted house. We were all digging the 70's/ 80's era rock tunes throughout our meal and helped give the experience a nostalgic ambience. I ordered a unique mocktail with a hosemade raspberry and basil syrup- it was so good and different than anything I'd tasted before. For my entree, I had the Ginger Sesame Pasta. WOW! This was such a delicious dish! Everything about it was delicious. The peppers and onions were grilled to perfection, and the chicken was tender and juicy having just been fried on a golden batter. All this layered onto some Cantonese Style Noodles- it was the dish I didn't know I needed! Our meal at The Granite was hearty and delicious! It kept us going for the long drive back to Toronto. Next time I'm in Bancroft, I'll definitely be back to have this dish and drink again. They were so good! read more

My friend and I just finished hiking in Algonquin Provincial Park, and needed to make our way to our cottage in Bancroft. This place was recommended by our hosts, and it was one of the few places that was open late in town so we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant looks to be in a converted house and it was very busy. We didn't have a reservation but luckily there was a no show so we ended up taking their slot. I ended up ordering the sausage trio. Because it was so busy it took a while for our food to arrive, but it was worth the wait. Portion wise it was quite large and the presentation nice. In addition to the variety of sausages, there was also mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, and some sauerkraut. The tastes of all the elements blended nicely together and I found everything to be quite delicious. The house made spicy mustard sauce was a nice touch and kicked things up a notch. A bit of an eclectic menu in a nice location. Had "the best burger" because anything that claims to be the best begs to be ordered. Well it sure was a pretty good burger. Had a wonderful time Saturday for supper. We were Camping in the area and had our two dogs with us. We called ahead and we're told bring dogs, that they were welcome. We arrived, dogs were welcome on the patio deck. They were served water. Heidi our waitress was great. She accommodated our wishes very well. Driving through Bancroft ON today we decided to try this restaurant that is recommended on Yelp etc. We were greeted cheerily by Ashley who asked if we'd like to dine in or out on the patio. We chose the patio and she said that means I'm your server. She was very attentive and gave excellent service. They have a lot of different beers on tap and in bottles; craft, foreign and domestic. We settled on a couple of pints of Sapporo draft and we were not disappointed. My wife had the California wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap had good guacamole and lots of lettuce etc. It was a well balanced sandwich and she says it was delicious as were the fries. The chipotle dip was good but the portion was a bit stingy. I had the Chicken Swarmma wrap and it was very good too. I had the regular fries with that and they were good. I suspect fresh cut. The patio had a great view of the town and as it was a beautiful Indian Summer day (+21C) we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Highly recommend. read more

Stopped here for lunch after a cottaging weekend near algonquin. The waitress said that the wings were popular there, so I gave em a try. They were really good - nicely breaded. I ordered the orange habanero sauce on the side, but didn't really taste the orange or the habanero in it. I ended up dipping my wings in the ranch sauce that came with the carrots and celery. During cottage season we make the drive from Ottawa to Haliburton fairly often, and it was such a pleasant surprise to find The Granite (thanks to Yelp!) Situated in a big house on a corner, The Granite has a really nice interior with both dining room and bar seating, plus an amazing patio. If you needed to accomodate a bit of a crowd it would be a great choice. The servers are always *so* friendly. We've arrived sort of late when we were the only ones there, or decided to sit on the patio right before it started to pour rain, and no matter what they've never made us feel rushed or like we were making things inconvenient for them. They're also open on holidays, which is handy! The food is nothing crazy, but it's always good. They use fresh ingredients and have a few items I might normally be hesitant about trying in such a small town (like calamari) but I've only heard good things about them here and wouldn't hesitate to order anything. The brown sugar cajun wings are the thing everyone raves about. The wings are good - big and meaty. The cajun brown sugar wings are good, but a little sweet for my taste (I am not big on sweet things generally). I really like the wet cajun, which are a little spicier, but not just "hot vinegar" flavoured. The burgers are also very good. Prices are very reasonable. We'll be back many times! read more

This welcoming eatery with a wonderful view is also incredibly accommodating! We asked for a few dietary substitutions and they were happy to prepare them. They were very welcoming to the service dog we were travelling with and even brought water buckets and milk bones when we got the check! The food itself was beautifully presented and tasted fresh and healthy. Portion sizes left me with enough for dinner all four of us were impressed with the food and blown away by the wonderful service. Bancroft itself is a spectacular and literal gem of a town worth visiting and exploring if you ever get the chance. read more

Up on a hill right at the entrance of Bancroft we found this spot for a bite to eat before heading up to the cottage. It looks like a small house with two levels. The service is really friendly, and the crowd made it seem like a local family spot, but still fit for a drink and group of friends to catch up. The menu looked SO tasty. Pastas, sandwiches, steaks. But the food was delicious. I got wings ($11) with Cajun Honey Spice. It was one of the best wings I'd ever had. Crunchy on the outside, a hint of sweet, and salty, and tender in the inside. We also got the steak salad, and the steak was cooked perfectly! The only thing, is the prices are city prices ($15-20) Also the servers seem to like being chatty so other customers might have to wait to catch their eye. read more

This place is a nice gem hidden in a back corner intersection in Bancroft. Miss this place while in the area and I pity you. I have had wings in many places around North America. This place (unfortunate for me as I don't live here) just shot to number one !! Holy crap. Brown Sugar Cajun wings, dry - Memphis Tennessee style. Did I say Holy crap ??? These are the best wings I've had in years, shooting over my last favorite (and now unavailable at a restaurant near me in Florida), Maple Buttermilk wings. The service here is awesome, and we were told was recently closed then re-opened under new mgmt. who are excited to bring a new flair to Bancroft. The menu here is wonderful with so many great choices. They have a nice bar area towards the back and on wonderful fall/spring days, this place has a fabulous outdoor patio area to catch the wonderful breezes while enjoying your meal. Free wi-fi and a solid server staff make this place a must eat. Its nice to have higher quality choices in small towns as the fast food chains just plop themselves everywhere they can - its good to see a locally owned place do well....Keep up the great work....and great food. read more

First time here. Menu somewhat elaborate but enough variety for many tastes. Portions good size; service very good. This has to be a "better choice" for Bancroft. Not to take away from the rest of the 'berg but this is a notch above, especially for this part of the world. The desserts - creme brule, carrot cake - very good. As was the bouliabaise (whatever)! Handicapped access: had to search for the door at the side but still accessible to the main floor, bar and not the patio. Washrooms somewhat difficult for a wheelchair customer. But still a good choice when en route to elsewhere or as a destination. read more

Fancy coffees were terrible, but they knew that and took it off the bill without even asking - good attentive service. Yum! We headed to Bancroft on a rainy cottage day and stopped at The Granite for lunch. It really hit the spot. We started with nachos, which were pretty standard, were very yummy. As someone with a gluten intolerance I can't tell you how excited I was to see gf chicken fingers and fries on the menu. They came with plum sauce and were savoury and crisp and piping hot. Nice decor, it's a converted house done in a casual dining atmosphere. The food is good, along with friendly prompt service. I've been there several times and have always been pleased with everything. Tuesday nights is half price wing night. The wings are really good, nice and meaty, not like some places that try to pass off a anorexic bird as a "wing." If I had to pick out one problem or downside with the wings it's the limited selection of flavours. They have only about 4-5. That said they are yummy. Being a relatively new resident to the Bancroft area I definitely see The Granite as becoming one of my regular hangouts It's a must try joint when you're in town. read more

Was in town for a few days and decided to stop here (twice!). I got a Caesar salad and my girlfriend got the steamed mussels. The wait was very short and the wait staff were wonderful both visits. My salad was a huge portion which was great, and tasted perfect. My girlfriend loved the steamed mussels so much, she got them again the next day. Also tried the Korean bbq wings and they were great as well. Many menu options, definitely recommend. read more

Forget the fry trucks...the French fries here are amazing!!! Great patio overlooking the York River and downtown. The waitress Tara was very friendly and knowledgeable about the craft beers. She offered us beer samplings and I chose the Muskoka Cucumber beer which was very refreshing. I had their chicken breast club wrap which had a generous amount of grilled chicken breasts and very fresh fixings and a huge side of fresh cut perfectly cooked fries...delicious! My husband really enjoyed the nachos which also had a colourful presentation with the multi coloured chips and many different fixings. I highly recommend giving the Granite a try!!! read more

Overall an extensive menu of soups; appetizers; burgers; sandwiches and seafood; meat and veggie items and enough pickings for a sweet tooth. The onion petal is good for sharing with friends, onion soup is good, burgers are good. Good selection of on-tap beers. One of the better places in the area - and a nice place to with friends and relax while having a bite to eat. Food is good and portions are generous. Unfortunately the attention to detail and customer service of the personnel is poor. When i ordered i followed the advice on the menue and alerted the server that i cannot eat peppers. The salad came and was very good. The entree came and was very nice also -at first taste. Which is what i had had when the server came to ask how it was. After eating several mouthfuls i realized that it was full of finely chopped red peppers. I tried to catch the server but she was nowhere to be seen. I struggled through a few more bites, removing what i could of the peppers. then gave up. When she returned to take the dish away she asked again how it was (could she not see that it was still half there and the pile of peppers?) I reminded her that i had asked for no peppers and requested she alert the chef. She did so and returned, relaying his apologies. When the bill came the full cost of the entree was on it. My request to speak to the manager was met with wonder and curiosity. When I said that I didn't intend to pay for something I specifically requested NOT to be served she left and returned with the bill with the entree removed. At no time did either the chef or the manager attend the table to apologize. This was a very quiet night, not the height of tourist season. Either the chef or the manager should have come to me to apologize for what could have been a catastrophic error. I certainly do not think that I should have had to request that the item be removed from the bill. It should have been done immediately with in-person apologies. Not only is this poor customer service but it reveals an alarming lack of awareness of the possible seriousness of food allergies and sensitivities. I would not recommend that anyone who suffers from food allergies or sensitivites dine at this establishment. read more

Stopped here on my way to the cottage. Beautiful sunny patio that allowed me to take my dog. They even gave him water and when we got our bill and candies, they included a milk bone for him. Yes, the servers are lovely. Appears upscale, but there are other restaurants that are reasonably priced and provide totally respectable basics. First off, our food took over 45 minutes to get to us, while others seated later were delivered their orders. Maybe it was the anomaly of ordering pasta instead of 'finger or fast foods'? The burgers looked great, the green salad with chicken arrived as mixed greens in a bowl with chicken strips on top and the smoked salmon fettuccine was awful, especially at $22. Literally drowning in a mustard sauce which unfortunately made each bite more and more bitter. The sauce might have been okay if it was about a tablespoon or so, but I couldn't tell because the dish was drenched. The smoked salmon was cheated, you know when you cook cured, smoked salmon from the package? Ever done that? It's a reasonable fake for something like an omelette, but not for this dish. My sister's steak wrap was also overdone, too many ingredients messing up the palette. Cream cheese and sour cream overrode the flavour of the main ingredient, the steak. While the server's seemed concerned, no one asked how our food was. I would have offered, but we were rushed after waiting so long for our food, and so, I paid and left. Never going back. read more
