Okay, buckle up buckaroos cause you're in for a ride.
Let me start by saying I'm no "foodie" nor am I some connoisseur of fine dinning. I settle for some simple tastes in life, a dirty big mac or a home cooked grill cheese are some real treats in my opinion. The bar is set pretty low for expectations, but when I go to a nice restaurant that's across the street from an East Side Mario's boasting that It serves Italian food I'm looking for a little something extra.
First the look and feel of the place reminds me strongly of visiting my grandparents retirement home with its fading white painted railing and walls mixed with whatever shade of red they choose to use. It also had that smell like not that Italian cooking up a tasty pizza smell like old feet.
I ordered pasta (naturally) to be specific 4 cheese ravioli. My wife ordered up some fancy fish from Winnipeg that said it was fresh (fresh from Winnipeg, k 26 hours straight driving fresh got it). Upon getting our food I was more then a little disappointed with how it looked. My pasta was just wet looking flipflops covered in what smelled and looked like ketchup, my wife has what I swear to god looked like it came from a cafeteria lunch line. I mean her food was just where ever ol miss cafeteria lunch lady propelled it onto her plate as she yelled back over her shoulder the gravy bucket was empty. She had potatoes just chilling half hanging onto the plate and bunch of veg thrown about and a fish slapped in the middle covered in some prosciutto (classy prosciutto). The veg wasn't even like a ratio thing, there was 98% uncooked tasteless carrots and like 1 or 2 broccoli and a single cauliflower just all alone, by itself longing for companionship.
SO, how did it all taste? Well like I said I had low expectations because a 24 dollar plate of pasta has got to be pretty good right. I dove right in to my slippery wet ravioli and upon cutting into it was greeted with some water that had squeezed out of the pasta and was now a clear liquid mixing with my already watery Prego pasta sauce that smelled like ketchup. Awesome. My wife took one bite of fish and spit a few bones out, her potatoes were about as wet and tasteless as tissue paper but somehow left your mouth dried out. I mean if I had a whole glass of the driest red wine first and was looking for something wet to eat after these potatoes would have tricked me then killed me from dehydration. The food won no favors here. It was butt cheeks.
The service was actually awesome and I could tell our server was picking up what we were putting down when she put the plates out in front of us. We tipped her fully, had no other issues and vowed never to return. read more
