We've been to Duna once before. Motto should be: GOOD FOOD…read moreTAKES TIME. And I'm a very harsh critic of Hungarian food seeing as how my grandmother was a HONGARIAN and she made the very BEST of the BEST. SO FINE! Last time we were there the restaurant was busy. The food took absolutely forever to arrive but it was very delicious. And a very apologetic owner/chef came out to see that we were ok. When does that ever happen? That's class! Now, a year later, we live in COVID land and we were craving some schnitzel for our once a week order out. We called the place and it just so happened it was his first day back!! The menu was wrong, he made some substitutions, and we had to wait about 30 minutes to get out order...but the food was AWESOME! Schnitzel was giant and super. Crispy and delicious. Spaetzle and sauerkraut were both BOSS! We had leftovers for another day as well. Highly recommend (but they are slow and twice is a trend). Also a note to the owner: fix your online presence immediately and get your ass on social media! Hire some help. This will make a big difference for your bottom line and we want you to stick around!!!

Food is hand prepared to order and served by Europeans. The schnitzel is so big it could easily be cut in half to serve two people. Even something as simple as spatzle is prepared with fried onion to make it more interesting. It is not cheap but fortunately all prices include a side salad. Just missing the alcoholic beverages to make this 5 star. I think this is why some reviewers felt that the wait was too long. It didn't take any longer than expected for our freshly prepared food cooked to perfection!

Over all, great place to pick up some euro groceries. The food is good quality. The staff is very friendly and very knowledgeable on the products in the store.

The bread is a crusty kaiser and always tastes fresh. They usually have some bread in a basket behind the counter to make the sandwiches, but when they are out, they ask you to get a bun from the place where they sell the buns which is on a wire shelf that does not look very sanitary. However, the lady puts on gloves when she makes your sandwich and removes the gloves when handling the cash. Big points for this. If they kept their bulk buns in a more hygienic place they would get even bigger points from me. They sell lots of candy and cookies from Poland and they also have lots of Polish desserts. Also deli meats. Great place to grab a tasty sandwich in the Byward Market if you don't feel like standing in line at La Bottega.

They sell perogies and other Eastern European snacks. Overall, the food was good, and reminded me of the home cooking of the mothers of my Slavic friends. I found the prices a bit high for what they were, but I guess nowadays that's not unsurprising. I got a ground pork and rice bun ($4), a ground beef crepe ($4) and a cottage cheese pancake ($4). The ground pork and rice bun was reminiscent of a cabbage roll in bun form, minus the cabbage and the tomato sauce, lol. It was heavy on the bun and rice and light on the pork, but tasted like comfort food. It reminded me a bit of the Asian buns filled with fillings like BBQ pork or curry beef as well. The bun was soft and almost brioche-like. The ground beef crepe was tasty, albeit a bit oily for my tastes. The crepe is a bit sweet, while the meat is slightly salty. The cottage cheese pancake was slightly sweet and I should have eaten this one last, as it was more dessert-like. I like that the cheese was thick and had a nice texture. Overall, the three items made a good snack. Service was courteous. The lady asked if I wanted the items warmed up and I liked that she placed them on a real plate to microwave them before putting them into a styrofoam box (I have seen some places put styrofoam in the microwave [shudder]). I mean I would have preferred if the box was cardboard, but at least they don't microwave styrofoam. The shop is located in a strip mall. There's plenty of free parking in the strip mall.
