It is also a very clean establishment booths and tables to sit indoors. We sat in and ordered 4 combos which were done in a completely reasonable time. I ordered the paris burger, which is a new favorite. Toppings included poached pears and brie cheese that made this the perfect burger for me. It was not too sweet just the perfect balance. Others had the Louisiana and New Orleans burger which they liked! The fries were absolutely delicious. It is $3 to upgrade to sweet potatoes fries but they were great. You definitely won't go wrong with regular fries too! Thick cut and cooked to perfection. If you order a combo it comes a soda pop with free refills. Wow, I am a burger lover but this was not it. Maybe they were having an off day, but this was not a "worldly" experience. My "World" size sweet potato fries ($11) were more of a size small and very soggy. I also had the Ottawa Burger, which was decent but I honestly wouldn't even order it again. To give them the benefit of the doubt I ordered this take out so maybe if you eat inside it may be better. $40 later. Very disappointed. Now looking at the other reviews it seems dissatisfaction is a pattern, very unfortunate as I think this place could have potential. If I were you I'd stick to The Works. I had lunch here today with one of my girlfriends and we thought it was good but a little overpriced for what it is. It's fast food-esque. You order at the counter then they bring the food to your table. The atmosphere is definitely more fast food joint though than a sit down restaurant. You fill your own fountain drink and get your own disposable cutlery, paper napkins, straws, ketchup, etc. I had the Ottawa Burger $8.49, which is a beef patty with maple mayo, sauteed onions, sauteed mushrooms, candied bacon and cheddar cheese. I made it a "fries and drink combo" for an additional $3.89. The burger itself was pretty tasty. The beef patty was nicely done and was meaty. The burger was slightly sweet due to the maple mayo and candied bacon. The bun was really fresh and fluffy. The burger was really messy to eat though. At first it was fine, but part way through, the bun got all saturated with the sauces and the burger became all wet and dripping. While I loved the taste of the fluffy bun (when it wasn't yet saturated with sauce), I find that denser buns work better for burgers. The fries were not that great, in my opinion. They were too crispy and saturated with oil for my liking. They were hot though and I got a lot of them. They have the skins still on and they are regular cut fries (neither shoestring nor thick cut). They are unbattered. My friend also got the Ottawa Burger, but she is a vegetarian so she got the veggie patty and held the bacon (still $8.49). She made it an "onion rings and drink combo" for an additional $6.49). She liked her burger and said the veggie patty was tasty. It looked to be made of grains and vegetables. It did not look to be soy based. I had an onion ring and it was good. Really crispy. The batter on the onion rings is more like breaded, as it's crumb-like instead of smooth (so more like onion rings at Burger King than at Harvey's). The onion is a whole ring though, not chopped up and reformed into rings (so in that sense more like Harvey's than Burger King). World Burger has some fun topping combinations and I like the world theme. Examples of other burgers they have are the Venice Burger, Tokyo Burger and Paris Burger. They also have "world" poutines like the London Poutine and the Montreal Poutine. They are in a strip mall on Merivale Rd. World burger is delicious. The menu is varied and the fries are great as well. My only issue is the price considering you order at the counter but they do bring it to you. Refillable drinks are a plus also. Restaurant wasn't very clean with ketchup all over several tables and the main counter. Also if you are claustrophobic don't use the washroom! Nothing to write home about. My party of three all felt the same. Two of us has bunless burgers and the presentation was disappointing. Basically a burger in a bowl. I got the Ottawa burger which sadly showed up with a cheese slice that appeared to be processed cheese. While the maple sauce had a nice flavour, the hamburger patty was dry and much smaller than the photos. The other two members of my party ordered the Jump (bunless) and Montreal burger. They rated them as OK at best - they found there was too much sauce and not enough meat. We also got reg and sweet potatoes fries. The regular fries showed up luke warm at best. They were decent fries so if they were served hot, I bet they would be excellent. All and all, it was a rather disappointing meal. It seems like there is some new burger joint opening up in Ottawa every month, and World Burger was one of them that really caught my attention. Located right in the heart of Merivale, and close to home, I finally got to check this joint out tonight! If I can remember toppings are free except bacon and cheese; but I believe they put bacon on every World Burger there (no stress bacon lovers). I went with the veggie burger ($5.95) topped with lettuce, pickles, caramelized onions, mustard and World Sauce, which is just a spicy chipotle mayo (YUM). Also got a family size poutine which I believe was around $8.99 and it was pretty darn big. I was splitting this with the hubby, but totally regret it (I could have eaten it all on my own). The food was DELICIOUS! Everyone at our group raved about how they thought it was the best burger joint that they have ever been too. They have really, really good burgers here. I don't get why you'd go to McDonalds, when a Burger here is cheaper than a Big Mac Combo (and only like 2$ more to combo it up with fries and a drink) but you get at least 3x the meat on it. You can pick your own toppings, or you can get specialty toppings. You can also get gluten-free buns for your burgers for an extra $1.25 The interior is designed to be like an airport. It's also under the flight path, but maybe that's just an odd coincidence. But the bathrooms are designed like plane bathrooms. And the people who work here are all really chill. The only problem is that it takes them a long time to cook the food, so don't go here if you're in a real hurry. Well, I finally decided to check this place out since it is relatively close by and wanted to see if it could be another burger joint to visit. FOOD I decided to try their 'Ottawa Burger' and have to say I generally liked it. The toppings were nice, the bun was flavourful, and it didn't become mushy (like Five Guy's burgers). The only thing I thought could be better was the patty. It's definitely dense and, for my tastes, better than the fried burgers at Five Guys, but there was something about it that just seemed a bit off. My preference would still be for grilled burgers though like those at Dick's Dairy Dip down the road. I also tried out their sweet potato fries which were good. The only downside is they only have one size and it is a bit too large for one person. It would be nice if they could offer a smaller size. SERVICE When I visited, there wasn't anyone else in line so the food was prepared pretty quickly. There is no table service here so while they have seating, it's more like Harvey's or Five Guys where you order and look after yourself. PRICE At around $8 per burger, the prices are reasonable. The fries are a good price for the amount you get but as mentioned, it would be nice if they could offer a smaller size for less. -- So, would I go back? Yes I would. I can't really complain about not losing weight when I keep eating burgers... I have been to world burger twice, both times with my fiancé. The atmosphere is diner-esque. You order at the front and can either eat in or take out. The first time, I had the Tokyo burger with fries. The burger was dipped in Panko crumbs and deep fried. Topped with Asian inspired slaw and served on a sourdough bun. Fries were good. The burger was good but underwhelming. I loved the first bite, but the more I ate the more redundant the flavour and while I was nearing the end I didn't even want it anymore. The second time, I got the Ottawa burger with sweet potato fries. This burger had cheese, candied bacon and maple mayo, again on a sourdough bun. Fries were awesome! But... The burger was way to sweet for me, I wish they added some more savoury components to it like maybe peppercorns in the burger or something, anything really, just to calm the sweetness. My main complaint is how every burger comes with a standard sourdough bun, of course you can get gluten free if needed. They put a lot of thought into the pairings of toppings on the burger, but different buns would be more exciting. Say the Tokyo burger came on a sticky bun or the Ottawa burger on a local beer infused pretzel bun... Would be more interesting and appealing. The man had the Montreal poutine the first time, which was a smoked meat poutine. He loved it and I thought that their gravy was pretty good, but the fries could have been crispier. The second time he had the world burger -two patties and regular fixins (lettuce tomato cheese) and the Texas poutine, a poutine with ground beef. He loved both, and couldn't finish the the poutine in one sitting. I think that the idea is there, it just needs to be perfected. Staff are incredibly friendly, and prices are a tad high. A co-worker and I just visited World Burger for the first time and were blown away by our awesome burgers. World Burger has just raised the burger bar in this town. I had the Ottawa burger, which I have to say, is THE best burger I've had in Ottawa to date. The mix of flavours was outstanding: Maple mayo, sautéed onions and mushrooms, candied bacon and cheddar cheese. OMG. My co-worker had the Mexican burger and was equally impressed with the flavour combination: Guacamole mayo, jalapeno, Mexican bacon salsa & pepper jack cheese. The bun is super fresh and tasty, while not being excessively large. I like the burger to shine; not the bun. The two of us split a sweet potato fry that came with a delicious dipping sauce. One regular order is lots for 2 people. We were stuffed. And this is not a table-waited restaurant. Order at the counter, pay, sit, and they bring your food to you. Lots of seating and free wifi. They REALLY drenched it with mayo.. I was shocked at the amount.. Both on the top and the bottom. I had to get a couple of napkins to wipe some off. The patty itself is good, toppings are fresh! The fries are really damn good, especially with vinegar. You get a solid helping of them too. They have a nice clean condiment station. Super cool dispensers for cutlery. And free refills. And they bring you your food while you get comfortable. Honestly I don't mind, I would have given 3.5 stars if it wasn't for the excess of mayo. It was kind of like I got mayo, and then burger stuff on the side instead of the reverse. I will try World Burger again, but knowing now that they're, shall we say, heavy on the sauce.. I found World Burger when surfing Skip the Dishes. Went with a friend and have been back since. I had the Ottawa Burger which was hot, tasty, and wonderfully sloppy -- just like I like burgers to be. Lots of meat and toppings. When I went the second time, I ordered a Combo and made a mistake about my order and was helped by the order staff without any issues or problems. I'm not really a French fry fan, and did like these because they were crispy and hot. I do like onion rings and, while these tasted good, I'm not a fan of crunchy coatings and much prefer batter over what I presumed was panko. My friend enjoyed her cheese burger and her small poutine. For her, the only issue was that it was a lot of food. We placed our orders and they were delivered to our table in less than 10 minutes. Overall, I paid a bit more [not a lot more] than I might have at McDonald's or Burger King and got a choice of good variety and more meat and toppings than bun. Went to World Burger for the first time on Saturday and had to ask for my money back. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with onions and ketchup, my girlfriend ordered a cheeseburger with ketchup. I got a bacon cheeseburger with ketchup and she got a cheeseburger with onions and ketchup. The bacon was an undercooked slab of fat and was like a rubber elastic. I saw this place had seemingly materialized out of the blue a few months ago and was curious about it, so I was happy to have the opportunity to drop in. The decor I found a bit cold and uninspired but the friendliness of the staff and their outgoing down to earth attitudes really made up for it. Having selected the "Ottawa Burger" and fries I found both were excellent tasting and fresh really all around quite enjoyable. That being said, at over $11 including a fountain drink, I found it a bit pricey for a fast food experience considering there is a Wendy's across the street, and a MacDonalds and Harvey's around the corner. I would definitely drop in again but sadly considering the available choices in the area, and the number of gourmet burger restaurants that have started popping up in this city, I will not likely become a regular anytime soon. read more
