It's quick to get in, he somehow has things done in an hour that takes other mechanics 4, and he's so so reasonably priced--cheap and the work is exactly what it needs to be. The customer service is amazing--he stayed open late for me so I could pick up my car same day! I've been going here for years, since like 2012, and don't really have anything bad to say. Today, he fixed my tailpipe (which had a damaged part which he got same day from the dealer) and my splash shield, but he's done much more than that for me throughout the years. read more

I called one morning asking if they had availability to look at my car which was overheating. They answered right away & told me to bring it in asap. I dropped it off they ensured they would at least have a diagnosis. By 3pm that day the diagnosis was found and fixed. All for a very affordable price. Because of positive Yelp reviews, I brought my 97 Honda Accord SE to Max for brake work. Thank you, fellow Yelpers! It was a good decision. I was in the market for a new repair shop because my former repair shop was taken over by new, less competent (IMHO) managment, who fired their best mechanic. Decades ago I used to own a repair shop, so I am intimately familiar with the proper way to fix brake problems. I would know if a shop was trying to rip me off or didn't know what they were doing. They brought my car in right away, probabaly because I arrived at the appointed time. The mechanic inspected my brakes and brake lines. He showed me that the rear drum brake wheel cylinders had leaked brake fluid over everything, and that my brake shoes were tissue-paper thin. He gently touched a shoe while pointing at it and the shoe crumbled! There's no question I had gotten every stop possible out of those shoes. The mechanic also showed me a leak in a brake line. The mechanic inspected the front brakes and said they were in good working order and don't need immediate attention. I requested a "hardware kit" also be installed. A hardware kit costs about $12 to $15 and includes return springs and other small parts. Mechanics find selling these difficult, but I know that replacing these parts with new ones prevents trouble down the road. Tip: If your vehicle has drum brakes, replace the hardware kit at least every other time the shoes are replaced even if the mechanic says the hardware is fine because the springs get weak over time. I can tell you with absoulte certainty that the mechanic recommended exactly what was required. Nothing more. Nothing less. He did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. His recommendation was spot on. Considering this store didn't know me from beans and I didn't tell them my background, that is reassuring. From my experience I rate their advice "expert" and it deserves of 100% confidence. The work was completed in the time promised. The car was as clean when I got it as it was when they started. My fancy custom wheel socket was in the trunk, as promised. The brakes have worked perfectly since the work was done. The price for two wheel cylinders, hardware kits, a short brake line, bleeding the brakes, installing, with labor was $360 plus tax. I consider this a fair price. Apparently the mechanic lacks confidence in his English capabilities. I had no trouble understanding him, but maybe that's because I know what mechanics say. A helpful man working there offered to translate, which might be useful if you have trouble with foreign accents. The staff was friendly. The billing was simple. Everything went smoothly. I am completely satisfied. My 5-star rating is rounded up fro 4.5 stars. The physical appearance of the store could use modernizing, for which I would dock them half a star if I could. Having run a small repair shop, I know how hard it is to see how the store looks to customers. You focus on doing everything right for the customer at a good price, and Max certainly does that perfectly. Then you figure out how much it costs to redecorate and you hesistate. read more

I woke up today in a panic, it's the last day of the month and my inspection was due. After calling 2 different shops only to be turned away, the guys at Max auto told me "you can come in when you'd like." That's all I needed to hear and I arrived there 15 minutes after our call ended. I arrived and filled out the appropriate paperwork and handed the mechanic my keys. 20 minutes or so later I was out the door with my inspection completed. Max Auto took what I thought was going to be an all day event and turned it around in home in time for the world cup matches today. Thanks for being so quick! Both times, my car was serviced relatively quickly, well, and with complete transparency. This place is a very honest practice and the people there do not try to pull one over on you by making you pay more than you have to or by getting procedures you don't need done. I do not know how to describe this place with giving it the credit it deserves. I got my car checked for inspection and I told them I only had one hour. They found three pretty serious issues with my car and fixed them all in one hour, and they were extremely a reasonably priced. They were very friendly and the workers were diverse which I believe is always a positive attribute of any business. It was a man from Iraq, another arab man, a black man, & a white man. It was obvious all knew what they were doing and could effectively get the job done in a short period of time. When I walked in the man at the counter had stepped out and there was a customer waiting. She knew what I had to fill out just from her experiences there and she started telling me what an amazing job they have done on her car for years. She says they always give the flat rate and they're extremely efficient and she would not go anywhere else. This will be the place I continue to take my car. Went in for a NYS Inspection and was failed for a 3rd tail light being out. That, however, is NOT why Max Auto deserves one star. When they explained to me that my 3rd tail light was out, the mechanic had removed the tail light (without my consent) and explained to me that it was a Honda part obtained only from a dealership. I know how to replace my own tail light and so I ordered the part online and replaced it myself. However, when I went to open the back shelf panel that houses the tail light, there were deep marks around the center speaker portion from a screwdriver. Apparently, the mechanic (having no clue as to how to open the back panel properly) tried to pry it up in the wrong place! When I removed the entire cover, the teeth that snap into the back frame were completely damaged. In a Honda, you push against the panel and then slide up but the mechanic just yanked the thing out - screws and all. To this day, I can't even get my back panel to snap in properly because the teeth are damaged. After going back and explaining this to Max, he blamed me, saying that maybe I did the damage. Fair enough, since I didn't catch it the first time I left his garage, but I know how to fix my car and why would I damage MY OWN CAR?! The only thing I can't do with a car is my own NYS inspections, so I'm not an amateur. As a show of good will, he gave me the return inspection, so I have no issues with his means of doing business (all cash, btw). However, watch your car when you take it in and don't trust his mechanics. Insist that they remove nothing until they physically SHOW you what needs to be replaced and if they must removed it, they should do it in front of you. It sounds paranoid, but if a 3rd tail light for a Honda Civic costs $52 on average, then imagine how much a panel or larger part would cost just for some one's negligence?! In fact, just save yourself the trouble and either go the dealer (ESPECIALLY if you have an import) or, if a minor repair, do it yourself. read more

UPDATE: After the owner said that my fiancé's struts were terrible and that we'd have to get new ones within a month, we went and got another opinion. Shocking, he was wrong. The struts were perfectly fine, all she needed as an alignment. This shop has no idea what they're doing, they don't tell you what they're doing to your vehicle and they hope you know exactly what is wrong with your car when you drop it off. I would never recommend this shop to anyone unless you're looking to get ripped off and little to no professionalism. read more

After receiving outrageous estimates for brake replacements from several shops around Buffalo, I called Max Auto Service and they made my day! Casullo's inspected my brake system and determined I needed pads & rotors replaced for both axles. Their estimate? A total of nearly $800!! Little did they know, I had already called various auto parts stores ahead of time & priced the items myself- about $115-$120 per axle. I'm well-aware of the ways repair shops attempt to manipulate women into spending more (because we're idiots, you know... We know nothing.) Anyway- after receiving similar estimates from other shops around the area, I called Max Auto Service and left a message with a worker for my quote-request. An hour later, I received a call from the owner & nearly shouted with joy at his quote. He was extremely nice & helpful. (He even said, "I know other shops around here try to charge $200-$300 just for labor." Tip: It does NOT take several hours to change brakes and you definitely should not be paying for several hours of labor.) I made an appointment, dropped my car off, and picked it up within a couple of hours. Yes, the shop is a little rough around the edges but those are sometimes the most reliable ones. :) I paid $378 total for front/rear replacement at Max Auto! ($169/$179 per axle included labor & parts + tax) More than half off of Casullo's estimate! My brakes are working like a charm and I now have my new local shop! I was worried that I might get ripped off because I don't know anything about cars but they gave me a great deal and I had my car back by the afternoon. I verified the cost with my friend's brother who is a mechanic. Everyone was very friendly and my brakes are completely fine now. The rotor and brake pads had to be replaced and they did a great job. I've been trying to take care of my check engine/vsc warning light for about 2 months. I took my Toyota Avalon with 147k miles to several places and a few places tried for valiantly but was unsuccessful. It took the better part of a week but Rasheed/Hector and the crew fixed it! The short man at the front is dishonest. Explained to me that to do my work it would be $20-25 dollars max. When it was done he told me 40$. I sat there for 30min going back and fourth with him explaining to him as a business owner, if you tell me a price you have to stick to that price. After I called the car dealership and asked them how much they said they were going to charge for the work (which was half the of what he wanted to charge me) he let me pay the 25$ which he insinuated the first time. I came here for the first time last year to replace my rear window motor regulator. Firestone's estimate was close to $400. Rashid(the owner) did a great job, and charged less than half of the Firestone's quote. I recently came here again to replace my brake rotor/pads, and brake lines. I paid and dropped off my car. When I came back in a few hours to pick up my car, Rashid told me that he refunded $230 because my brake lines were good. Found Max through Yelp and now returning the favor to Yelp with an update. I had my vehicle towed here and they looked at it and responded with an estimate within hours. The estimate was much lower than I expected, so I was skeptical at first. They made the repair for just slightly over estimate, but certainly still very reasonable. Max is fair, quick and does good work. I've had the vehicle back for two weeks since and no problems at all. My truck was ready for pickup within 24 hours. Very happy with this service and given my truck has more rust than metal, I'm sure to see him again. read more
