Love Max & Lucy's! We discovered them through our cousins whose family will bring some assorted enseymadas up for all their parties and events. I really like the classic and the ferrero rocher ones, especially when microwaved for a few seconds. Now we try to stop by if ever we're in the area and recently we tried their silvanas which are new to their menu. the silvanas were delicious! not too sweet, which made it dangerously easy to eat a lot in one sitting. they also provided a little insulated bag with the silvanas to keep them cool in transit which was great. it's a very small shop, no room to sit and enjoy your treats but just right for ordering some goodies to go. and of course, love that Max and Lucy are their doggies names and their pictures are painted on the wall!

I was in the SFV and on my way for lunch to meet up with some friends and wanted to surprise them with some tasty treats. I'm not as familiar with SFV since I rarely travel in this part of town. So, a quick Yelp search and noticed ube and ensaymada at Max & Lucy's. This quaint and small shop was a bit empty inside with limited inventory. Not sure if they were wiped out or made most of their items on an order bases. Anyways, this place reminds me of Goldilocks Bakery back in the day that bakes up transitional Filipino breads and desserts. Max & Lucy's is a bit more of a modern bake shop. Without much inventory to look at, I ordered a 4 pack of ube ensaymada. So after brunch at Brent's Deli not too far away, I gifted my friends from San Diego the ube ensaymada. While on their way down south, I got a call saying it's the best ensaymada they've had. Ensaymada is a bit half the size I'm used to but very good. It's a buttery dense brioche with an ube frosting and sprinkled with a cheddar cheese. If you like sweet, savory, buttery, this is your thing. Not sure if I'd be back unless I'm in this part of town, but overall this bake shop has some good quality baked goods to try.

Stopped by to pick up some ensymada which is always good btw! Staff is very friendly and I don't think I've seen it before but they have chicharon?!? Gotta try it next time.

I have been looking for a good quality ensaymada for awhile now, and i have found some spot and 1 of them is Max & Lucy's bakery, wow their bread for ensaymada was soft as cloud. It was really good. Loved the cheese. And they have a great service too, cute and small bakery. I would definitely come back and try other goods they have.

    Selection of yummy pastries.

Max & Lucy's is our favorite go to place for ensaymada and ube cheese pan de sal. This yummy bakeshop offers both delicious baked goods and pastries like ensaymada, ube cheese pandesal, chicken adobo pandesal, cheesecakes to name a few. They also provide excellent customer service. They are consistent with delivering both quality of delicious baked goods and excellent customer service. Thank you Don and staff, always.

Got this from a friend and have mixed reviews for each one. The ensymada itself is great. Tried the ube yema, ferrero chocolate, Parmesan, and queso de bola (not pictured). Definitely should warm these up before eating. The ube yema was good and well balanced sweetness and saltiness. My niece enjoyed it. The chocolate was overly extremely sweet and was my least favorite. The Parmesan was excellent and so was the queso de bola. Both I enjoyed.

We're in Northridge visiting my brother and he recommended this place. I'm reviewing this based on the service that was provided to us. I was taking pictures for my Yelp reviews and the lady serving us commented on why I was taking pictures. The comment was arrogant and didn't sound welcome. I have to mention that I was a Yelp Elite and wanted to review this business. She again mentioned not to take any pictures of their operations or kitchen. I have posted the pictures I've taken. She should at least be polite and say it nicely. Maybe she's having a bad day but should not take it on the customers. The ensaymada we bought was good but the service we got put a sour taste on the way we looked at this business.

It feels divey, and the staff is chill friendly. Of course the star of the visit was the food. The Lechon Kawali was excellent: I like that it was cut in true bite sized pieces, and each had beautiful layers of crispy rind, melty fat, and flavorful meat. The accompanying garlic fried rice and pickled veg were perfect partners, rounding out a perfect dish. I also tried the Lucenachon, their signature rolled pork dish and the chargrilled, which were both tender and tasty, and the fried fish balls were delicious, as well. This place isn't fancy, but the Filipino cuisine is definitely elevated in both rounded, balanced flavors and textures and in its simple yet lovely presentation. I can see why it caught James Beard attention. This food is definitely cravable.

It's in quite a busy area and parking can be a little bit tricky but it's totally worth the stop. However, it is a very small place so seating is limited, and definitely don't plan on bringing a large group because it's cramped as it is, and no outdoor seating available. We came about an hour before closing on Friday, so luckily it wasn't crazy busy but they only have one lower regular height table, which is actually a handicap designated table, so the higher bar seating isn't super ideal for kids or elderly. Other than that if you want to just do takeout, I saw a lot of people doing that. It was hard to make a choice here because of all the delicious things on the menu, but we were super happy with what we got. The lechon sisig was the perfect amount of heat, and loved the poached egg added on top, definitely worth the extra cost. We also got the longsilog, which was a delicious plate of food. The sausage was cooked perfectly, and it was so juicy and flavorful, our kids devoured all of it! The salad and the pickled achara was so refreshing and really completed the dish. Even the lumpia and the house chili sauce didn't disappoint either. The presentation was definitely all there. Service was awesome as well. My only complaint is that they were out of the calamansi hibiscus drink so I wasn't able to try it, but I guess that just means I have to come back again when I'm in the area!

Nestled in the sauce were vibrant, perfectly cooked vegetables: tender bok choy, slightly charred green beans, and slices of eggplant that had soaked up all the savory depth of the stew. At the heart of the dish lay generous chunks of beef -- fork-tender, deeply flavored, with just enough fat to melt into the sauce and give it that rich, silky mouthfeel Kare Kare is known for. Sprinkled over the top were crunchy bits, adding a satisfying contrast to every spoonful. Of course, the small side of bagoong (fermented shrimp paste) was essential -- a modest dollop transformed each bite, balancing the sweetness and creaminess of the peanut sauce with a punch of briny intensity. Paired with steaming garlic rice, every scoop felt like the perfect blend of textures and flavors, a true homage to the Filipino classic. Eating Spoon & Pork's Kare Kare felt both nostalgic and elevated -- the heart and soul of a traditional comfort food presented with an eye for freshness and balance. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down, savor each bite, and immediately start planning your next visit.

4.5 stars. Sorry,…read moreguys - I'm still catching up on my reviews and am kicking myself for failing to write this before Spoon & Pork permanently shut its doors. This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.
