I'm surprised to see these negative reviews here. If you look on Google reviews, they have a 4.7+ I've been coming here for my high-mileage Toyota Land Cruiser and have nothing but positive things to share. Not only is their tire pricing very competitive, their service has been excellent as well. Recently had some issues with my aftermarket TPMS sensors and Chris has been very helpful both times and resolved the issue without a hiccup. I'll keep coming back thanks! read more

I am very upset with this particular Mavis. My 17 year old daughter brought her car there for simple oil change. I received a phone call saying that she needs new brakes and rotors for her car and I was quoted a price over $900. However, when my daughter went to pick up her car, she was told that it was closer to $1500. I am very disgusted because I never received a phone call telling me that it would cost more. They said I needed all this stuff for my car, and when I told friends and family the price I was paying, everyone was shocked. My bill was significantly higher than the quote and the guy behind the counter didn't really know why. He took off everything they added but didn't bother asking me about like a cabin air filter. Still much higher than expected. It was closing time so I thought I'd pay it and review it and call back the next day to speak to the guy that quoted me. Bad idea. Turns out they double charged me for an brake flush and no one could remember the lower quote so they said they'd refund me for the double charge. I came to Mavis to get my Tire Valve Stems replaced.... Dennis was professional and so was James or Brian, but unfortunately the place has bunch of kids as mechanics or really bad mechanics. after coming here twice for the same issue, i went to a 3rd shop which told me MY VALVE STEMS WERE NEVER TIGHTENED DOWN!!! THATS WHY THE AIR KEPT LEAKING OUT OF MY TIRES!!! stay away........ you get what you pay for, wasted 100$ here. lesson learned. 16$ in parts, 84$ in wasted time and a job done worse than a student mechanic!!!!!! came to fix issue, had it done twice, still wasn't done right!!! go somewhere else. John was the nicest service person. There were two men there and we had a flat which was awful - the worst I have ever had. I got there with a shredded tire. They were kind and the front desk person was having an argument with another customer who was yelling and calling him names. Yes this was not a good situation. But John calmed him down a bit and he put the spare tire of my car on and refused to take any money for it. It was at least a half hour of their time on a Sunday afternoon. Worst experience I have ever had!! Please do yourselves a favor and stay as far away from this location as possible! I only wish there was a zero star rating. For those interested in the details, here you go: I went online, got a quote for 4 new tires, made an appointment and they even called me to verify my appointment. So far, so good. I dropped my car off (1/13/23) and asked them to add an alignment service. No problem so far. About an hour after I left my car, I get a call. Apparently my brakes are in "REALLY bad shape." All four wheels need new brakes and rotors as the brake pads are almost all gone and the rotors are warped. I was surprised to hear this as I just had all my brakes replaced about a year ago and they have only about 10,000 miles on them. I ask "how much for the brake job?" $1,100!! I said "no thanks" and asked them to just do the tires. About 3 minutes later he calls me back. He said he spoke to the manager and now they would now do it for $800 because they couldn't in good conscience "let me drive the car in such an unsafe condition." I declined again knowing that this was a complete lie and they were just trying to upsell me. I go to pick up my car around 2pm that same day. As I was about to pay for the tire and alignment service, I asked if I could have/see the alignment report. The guy goes into the shop, comes back and tells me the alignment printer is broken. So, I told him to take the alignment service off the bill. He gets the Manager (Jeff). This guy is a young, arrogant piece of misery who immediately has an attitude, tells me I am the only customer who has ever asked for an alignment report and continues to tell me the printer is broken (I later found out the alignment machine doesn't even have a printer). He insists that the alignment was done and that I need to take his word. This went back and forth for a bit and I finally asked if they could do the alignment again so I could personally see the results. Reluctantly, he agreed, turned his back to me and walked away. They put the car onto the alignment lift, set it up, ran the alignment and low and behold, the two front wheels were out of alignment!!! The alignment guy then swore up and down that it had passed when he did it earlier. He then adjusted the wheels until the car was actually aligned. BTW, I never saw the manager again. He slid into his little office hole in the back and never showed his face again. I then go pay for the services that have now been completed and get back into my car (btw, no one apologized for them not doing the alignment as they were supposed to and tried to charge me for). Back in the car, I see two huge grease stains all over my passenger seat. I go back into the office and told the guy behind the counter that there were grease stains all over my seat. I had to wait another ten minutes for some guy with a rag and spray bottle to come out and clean the grease off my fabric seat. You thought the experience was over? Not yet! I get in my car and begin driving. The steering wheel is shaking like crazy and the car feels super unstable at highway speeds. Being so fed up with the Ramsey NJ Mavis, I took the car straight to the Nanuet NY Mavis. These guys were fantastic! They found that the new tires were never balanced!! After they balanced them for me (and didn't charge me for it by the way) the car drove perfectly. They even called me about an hour later to check to make sure the car was ok. They will be getting a 5 star review. I get an email this morning from the Ramsey NJ Mavis saying they are sorry I missed my appointment and would like me to reschedule. They either screwed this up too or, they want to make it seem like I was never there. (plausible deniability. Maybe it would work if only I didn't I have a receipt). This is a perfect example of why mechanics have such a bad reputation and there is such a lack of trust. The people who work at the Ramsey NJ Mavis are all crooks, from the "Manager" down to the guy who can barely work the computer at the front desk. UPDATE 1/18/23 - I responded to the business owner asking me to call their customer service number. I did that already back on 1/16/23. I was assured that my complaint was severe and would be prioritized and sent to the regional manager. I am still waiting for the regional manager to call me.... read more

I had an appointment for 9 a.m on a Friday a few weeks ago to have four new tires and an alignment put on my car. They called me that morning at 8:30 and said it would be a 45 minute delay. I had to sit and wait since I had no one to pick me up, . Well, that 45 minute delay turned into three hours. After about an hour of my car being on the lift, the service guy asked me to come see a problem that was underneath my car. He said the struts and the tie rods all had to be replaced and that they were running a special right now. Normally it would be $3000 and it would only cost me $1800. I told him I'm not making any decision and I would have to check with my mechanic . Today, I took my car to my mechanic and he said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the struts and the tie rods. He said this is very typical of Mavis and Firestone because they run on commission and are always trying to sell services that the car does not even need. Well Mavis... You will never see me again, and I will make sure I spread the word that you are scamming people!!!! read more

I was at Mavis this morning for my tires, tire pressure monitoring malfunction and oil change. I was very happy with the communication, service and job that was done. Jefferson at the front desk was communicative, personable and made me feel like a VIP when it was only my second time there. The mechanics are certified and very responsive to Jefferson and from what I saw even directly to the customers when questions were needed. Also, my price for a synthetic oil change was amazing!! BEWARE AND AVOID AT ALL COST. New manager who sits on stool in garage. He's aggressive and rude, no customer service skills. I asked have break pads check on Toyota Camry getting a tire rotation. He has employee come to me with a quote for 3.2 K to do breaks, pads, and suspension. Car was driving fine. Offered in-house price of 2.6 K. Told him to put tires back on and give me written estimate. Had second opinion, 2nd mechanic told me suspension and rotors fine, break pads come back in 20-25 K miles to see if need replacement. Most egregious example of being ripped off I've ever seen, should be hrad larceny for the price quoted. New manager needs to go ASAP! Do yourself a favor and take your car somewhere else. There are many different service stations to bring your car to in the Ramsey NJ area. They lied about the part that was installed. Said it was a manufacturers part and it was a cheap after-market master cylinder that failed in 3 weeks. Was almost killed on the highway when my brakes failed!! Then they lied about voiding the warrantee if I took it to another place to fix what they did. (It's illegal to void a manufacturer's warrantee in NJ). Had to threaten legal action in order to get reimbursed for the part that failed. Just wish I can give them negative stars. There are better mechanics in the area... don't waste your time and money on getting over-charged here. read more

I had a reservation. The guy told me it would take 30 mins for the oil change and tire rotation so I walked around near there and got back after 40 mins. My car was still in the parking lot. I asked the guy and he said they were busy and walked around another 20 mins but my car was not in service yet. I noticed some other car after me was in the service. I decided to stay in side and he pulled up my car at that time. After the service, he told me its $130ish. I showed him a coupon for the oil change and he took $10 off. He told me $20ish for the tire rotation. I told him I always got a free tire rotation here and he said he never heard of it. I tried to find out another coupon online for the free tire rotation and showed him, and he took off the fee. I rembered this guy all the time. What are you talking about. Competent, but way too pricy. I was stranded on a Sunday over 100 miles from home with a flat tire. Nothing else was open. They replaced my tire with an identical brand new one quickly and efficiently. Service was friendly. Car drives great. However, they charged me over twice what the dealer does for a new tire and new pressure sensor. Labor cost was about the same. If the dealer were open on Sunday and if I wasn't under time pressure to return home, you bet I would have gone some place cheaper. Take the "discount" out of Mavis Discount Tires. read more

I wanted to give Jamal at Mavis Tire, Ramsey, NJ a shout out as I had recently gotten a nail in my car tire while I was out shopping and needed it repaired. Jamal greeted me soon after I approached the counter and assured me it wouldn't take long for one of the technicians to check out my situation. I settled in thinking it might take awhile as the work area was filled with cars being serviced, and there were already a few other customers in the waiting area. After only about 10 minutes I saw a tech drive my car in the bay area and get right to work. I liked the fact that from the waiting room I could observe my car being worked on through a large window. It was only about 20 more minutes and Jamal let me know my tire had been repaired and was ready to go. Thrilled at how fast my car had been tended to, I pulled out my wallet to pay for the repair, but Jamal just smiled and told me there would be no charge. You would think a business with the name tire in it could actually replace one of your tires without having to travel back and forth three times to actually get a new tire. FIrst visit - I was told your appointment is tomorrow - no I just called and it was same day. So I bring my auto back the second day. Drop it off and plan on coming back to pick it up later. Nope - get a call oh sorry they sent the wrong tire. Mavis will order another - can you bring the vehicle back tomorrow? you can see where this is going. I was ticked and planned on taking the truck elsewhere for the tire but my husband wanted to take the truck on a trip Sunday and so we took it back only to have to wait again. Finally get a new tire - wanted it to match the other Cooper tires with practically new tread....and they put on a tire that doesn"t match!!!! By this point I am beyond frustrated. Fast forward I take some time to calm down and try to call the Mavis Tire Customer Service Number to let them know that No I am not 100% satisified and guess what...they hung up on me before I could even get out my second sentence! If ZERO stars were possible, that's the rating I would give them. Got a quote over the phone from Nick for $790 for a set of 4 Goodyear Assurance Weather Ready tires 225/65HR17, installed with tax included. He also stated that the Tire price was 139.00 each, which was $20 per tire cheaper than the online price. When I did the math for all the installation prices on the internet plus the cost of each tire, it came out to $755.00 for the toal job with tax included. When I arrived at the facility I met with Nick, the same person that I spoke to on the phone. I told him that I thought the math didn't add up to the cost of identical installation prices on the internet, he then said he would charge me $761 and I agreed. I also repeated the type of tire "Goodyear Assurance Weather Ready" while handing in my keys. I asked for an estimate of what time he thought it would be done and he stated 11-11:30 and that he would call when it was ready. At 11am I phoned to get an estimate of when the work would be completed. Nick again answered the phone and after I identified myself, he told me that my car was ready. I had my wife drop me off who then headed home. To my surprise, I saw my vehicle on the lift still fitted with the old tires. He then stated I'm sorry we have 2 hondas. I grew angry because I had several other errands that needed to be run before 2pm. I was going to stick it out and wait when I noticed that the tires they were about to put on my car was a lower grade goodyear than I ordered. When I called Nicks attention to it he began giving me the run around. He then admitted that the tires I had agreed to purchase were not in stock. On our way upstate and my fiancé got a flat tire. We pulled into Mavis discount tire in Ramsey and they helped us immediately. They were able to change our tire out right away and in hardly any time at all. They even gave my fiancé a firefighters discount. Highly recommend them in emergency situations! read more

Definitely avoid this location. This is why... When this was an STS franchise, we had a relationship with them to do the alignments for our cars. They were fast, fair and did exactly what we needed. Fast forward to when Mavis acquired the STS brand, now the alignments are "extra" for European cars. "Regular" cars are $89 while "Euro" cars are $139. Why? Literally a luxury tax. It takes NO extra time or effort to do an alignment between a "regular" car and "Euro" car...just an unnecessary mark up. "Regular" cars are American or Japanese brand cars, according to them. Here's the best part...their alignment machine does not have a working printer (for "over a year"). So, they cannot even PROVE they did the job. They can put it on the rack, do zero, and drive it off. Without showing a customer before/after specs of your car, hoe can they prove they did it? We will never recommend this location for anything other than perhaps putting air in the tires. Hopefully they can do that properly. read more

I went to get my snow tires put on in December 2018 - good price only $9.99 per tire with balancing, etc. included. However, I just went back in late-April to get the snow tires off and my regular tires back on. Called on a Sunday to make an appointment for Monday - didn't get to make an appointment but was told they don't get busy until 10:30am so the earlier I can come in, the better and the process would only take about an hour. Okay, so I arrive 8:05a Monday and there are already 2-3 people waiting. I check in and say I was planning on waiting for an hour for my car, but manager suggested I leave my car. So I get a ride from a co-worker last minute and plan to come back at lunch - fine. 10:42a get a call saying they cannot find my wheel locks and they search my whole car looking for it - he said "I tore up your car looking for it. I checked the glove box, your center console, your side doors - everywhere". First of all, do not go through my car without my permission like that. If what you need is not in plain sight, you should have called and asked immediately. This could have all been avoided if you just asked and reminded me about the wheel lock when I dropped off the car. 11:10a get another call saying they cannot find me wheel lock...yes I know - I just got a call from someone else already - do you not make notes when you call clients? I went back at lunchtime to locate wheel lock...found it within 15 SECONDS of looking...it was in the trunk the whole time. only after manager told me that he literally took everything out of my car and put it on the ground to search earlier...not cool. Manager asks me if I am still leaving the car. YES, I am leaving the car so you can do the work on it that I brought it in for in the first place. He says how long do I have to finish - 5pm? Yes, sure I will get yet another ride back after work. 5:05p I go to pick up my car and do not see it out in the parking lot. Not a good sign. They are not even finished with it after having it an entire day for a job that apparently takes an hour. I go in to pay and the front desk man is helping another lady who was already there before me, no problem. But then another man comes in and gets helped by Leo (nice guy, very helpful) for 20+ minutes. Manager comes out with my bill and puts it on the counter, advising Leo to help me once he is finished. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST PROCESS MY PAYMENT NOW MANAGER?! So I waited half an hour just to pay. I go to pay, expecting it to be the same cost as it was in December...no, it was $135. I question why there is such a price discrepancy because my bill was only about $40 in December to get the snow tires on. Apparently this is the price for 18inch rims and always has been. So did I get charged less than I should have in December or did I get overcharged this time? Tried to understand this price discrepancy for 15 minutes and ended up getting a voucher for a free oil change. While I appreciate the gesture, an oil change does not cover the $100 difference in my service prices, and the issue of not having my car for an entire day for a job that takes 1 hour. Again, Leo, at the front desk, was extremely pleasant and helpful, knowledgeable and apologetic. My issue is with the manager. read more

Have purchased tires, done reapirs and oil changes over the last few years. Last 2 visits I waited at the counter for several minutes as other customers were being helped which is fine. There is a person in the backround watching but not assisting. I did not think he actually worked there but I later asked the person at the counter & was told that person was the manager. Manager more interested in his phone rather than helping customers. By the way, oil change for Toyoya SUV was $104, no extra work whatsoever. Toyota delars charge $65-75 for sane service. Whether my appointment is there or not, I said I needed an oil change today. Then, what he said was hard to believe: This Mavis Tire can't do oil changes on cars from Europe or something!! WHY DIDN'T THEY INFORM ME AT THE FIRST PLACE? I said I've gotten an oil change before. He said they can't do it any more because of new policy. They have my info, including the maker of my car.
