Showed up on the day and then they decide not to seek ANY of the new product and save it all for their event the next day. Poor communication. Poor planning. Yall are better than this. Employees changed their asking price after agreeing on a sale and setting the cards aside so I could look at other products. One employee had stated a price for two Pokémon cards. I agreed to the price. Fifteen minutes later, a second employee tells me they can't honor the previous agreement and nearly doubled the price. Employees made no attempt to make it right. read more

I am giving this a 3 star review, but it's simply due to the staff. They are nice and helpful. The main thing I want to note is that this store DOES NOT SELL VIDEO GAMES ANY LONGER. This should be noted in the Yelp tags, as I wasted a trip out for nothing but a store full of cards and table top games. If you are looking for Magic cards, this is the place for you. read more

This is bigger than most game stores, and they have a decent selection, but the staff is just awful. I made the mistake of coming here at 12 o'clock (when they are listed as opening). Had to wait over ten minutes for the "dude bro" staff to show up and open the store, no apologies or explanation for why they were late. As I asked about the store, events, etc. the staff member kept rolling his eyes and his body language showed me he was clearly uninterested in talking with me. I made an offer on some rare cards they had in the case, and was quoted prices ABOVE market value even though I was paying in cash. No, I am not going to subsidize your lazy lifestyle, I'll go spend my money where it is appreciated. read more

As a caveat, I'm only reviewing the video game part of their store. I've heard from friends that the Magic side of this store is good and offers a great community For people looking to play competitive and friendly MTG. But that's not me... First, the Good: game swap has a fun atmosphere with lots of stock. Games are plentiful and organized well. You'll most likely find something to purchase while you're here. However, it's at this point where we switch to the bad... Bad: 1) staff. I very rarely get asked how I'm doing or if I can be helped. I very often feel like a burden while I'm browsing. 2) prices. 90% of the time, games are over priced. Take their current copy of Mario bros 3. For the NES. They want $30 for it. You can easily find that game online or at other great stores in the Cincinnati area for $15. That trend continues as you browse other games. Popular Games are consistently marked up 50-100% of the current market value. These prices seem to say that Game Swap takes advantage of the uninformed and on nostalgia. That feeling continues to rub me the wrong way. Even if i give the store an decent markup for just being a store, I can't bring myself to be okay with their prices. I know too many other retro game stores that are fair and pay attention to the market. This is my biggest gripe with Game Swap. And it's for those reasons that I, unfortunately, would encourage anyone who is looking to retro game to go elsewhere. read more

The Game Swap in Mason is the end all, be all when it comes to Magic: The Gathering cards. I've never seen a selection as big as this one. They have TONS of cards, and also tons of Heroclix and other tabletop games, as well as a huge selection of retro and current-gen video games and movies! The first time I went into this store, I was blown away. They literally have a an entire quarter if their (really big) store dedicated to dealing in Magic. The display for buying single cards is great. As a new player, I was able to browse cards and get an idea for prices on them. They have some old fat packs and duel decks for the collector, too! As you turn around from the Magic, they have three large aisles of tabletop games and supplies for tabletop gaming and deck building games. Best selection of sleeves, cases, and playmats I've seen in a single store. Again, wow. Then come around and there are more Heroclix than I've ever seen in a single location. Not something I'm particularly into, but great for someone who is. My favorite is the retro game wall. I didn't find anything to purchase on my visit, but they do have a great selection with very comparable prices. They have a really large area for tournaments and casual play, and the parking lot is HUGE so there is plenty of room to park. The staff was really nice and made sure I was able to see anything in the cases I was interested in, and let me know about all their upcoming events and specials. They weren't pushy at all - just generally nice and knowledgable. This is a MUST on every trip to Ohio for me! read more

They have a massive selection of goods to choose from, as someone who plays dnd and magic as well they have a great choice for them as well. I was helped by Ash, a very nice and helpful person, aided me in the basics of what i needed to get started and held great advice in the events they also host for the games. So to keep this simple I went in on 8/31/22 and bought around 140 base/jungle/fossil/rocket cards. The first day they had an amazing customer service a younger girl that knew her stuff and was laid back and professional. I then proceeded to come in the following evening 9/1/22. Right away the energy was different there was a guy who is talking about getting his masters but also complaining that the store is slow and he want to leave once the boss get there... his enegry was your cards arent worth nothing but you will pay above market price for ours... he also stated that Mavericks DOES NOT trade cards. whatever it is valued at we will give you 60% ???? so if i trade you a card for the same card (example) your only giving me 60% of value but yours is full price ? ANYWAYS he had an attitude the whole 2.5 hours we were there going through cards... to the point he was talking behind our backs to the Boss once he came in and the young lady that helped the prior day (also just arrived) needless to say he tried to change the prices on cards. I then proceeded to call him out not only on the cards but his attitude.... the lady said I'm sorry and tried to procced with the transaction after he walked away. I said "no worries he was being an ASS" that's all I stated the owner who had no knowledge of what had transpired then came over and stated "I'm gonna need you to leave my store for using profanity in my store" I stated I simply Stated "he was being an ass but sure ill leave your store!" there is a lot more to this scenario that is written here like them completely ignoring my African American wife..... but i digress... The owner had NO CLUE what was going on prior to him arriving Nor Did the other young Lady..... they just got pulled into his fiasco because the guy didn't even want to be there .... read more

The employees are so friendly and helpful. And OMG the selection is amazing!! The Game swap in Mason is the place to go for cards.

The selection of products is great. Staff aren't bad either. But when it comes to Magic the Gathering Judges that they have there, it could be way better. They are biased and don't know half the rules. I when blocking with creatures you don't take damage unless otherwise stated. Example: I block with a white creature that has protection from black creatures which means it doesn't take damage from black creatures. The judges rule it as meaning this: This black creature will do all of its damage to me instead of no damage because apparently that's how it works. So I would recommend for anything but Magic the Gathering. Not only are the judges not fair, but the players are both sore winners and losers. read more

I really like the store and everybody is usually super helpful and friendly, but recently I try to get some games and I only request if they can swap just one game cases because I really like to get my games in the best possible way, and that one it was not too nice, but he refused with no reason and the guy did not even try to help me and I'm not saying he was mean at all, but everybody always help me with all that all the time, and I just feel disappointed in some way with them, I just didn't get the game tonight, I will find it somewhere else. read more
