Ridiculous Magic: The Gathering selection. Everyone is super friendly and there is a TON of space to play.

About the norm. If…read moreyou've ever been to a Michaels before, or better yet if you've ever been to multiple Michaels before, you'll find that they're all about the same. On the positive side, they have a great framing department, and everything you can think of when it comes to crafting and DIY hobbying. They also have a lot of fun and different baking items and molds to work with for holidays or parties. On the downside though, understaffed. Almost always. Even at their busiest times, which is usually the Christmas holiday season, always understaffed. At times, I've waited in line for up to 25 to 30 minutes to check out. You have a store full of people, you have six to eight registers, and you have two registers open with a line of 20 people deep. Would I go back? Yes, I would. And I will go back. Michael's is its own thing. I'm not saying there aren't other craft or hobby stores like it, but Michael's has what I need. Unfortunately though, I dread having to go there. At least during times when I know it's going to be busy. Here's a tip: If you're going to go to Michaels, make it during a weekday or non-peak time like a weekend or during the holiday season.

Oh how I love an arts and crafts store. Especially ones that have TONS of cheap-o items for kids…read morenear the registers. I pick stuff up from here for my nieces and nephews to keep them occupied with something other than tv! They always have good deals on canvas and other painting needs (good for me!) Definitely a better choice than your expensive art store. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have all craft needs - TONS of stickers. I'm definitely a fan :-)

This is my go to needlepoint store. I first wandered into the store one Saturday when my daughter…read morewas painting pottery next door. I had always wanted to try to needlepoint so I went in. Dawn, the owner was really helpful & put me at ease right away. She took the time to help me pick out my first piece & the fibers to use. She said "There are no needlepoint police" that helped me not to worry whether I was stitching it correctly or not. I've been an avid stitcher ever since! They have since moved to Mason. I went today & even though it was further for me it was worth the drive! It's probably more convenient for a lot of people. Check it out. You will be happy you did!

If you are a beginner, they can get you on track with one of their beginner level classes, although they even offer classes for the more advanced needlepointers, if you will, often taught by "nationally recognized teachers." A Stitch Above is on the second floor of the Olde Madeira Plaza, and like many of its neighboring shops it has been in its present location for many years (20 to be exact). A Stitch Above has a vast array of preprinted canvases, as well as one of Cincinnati's larger selections of fiber. There were just SO many different fibers from all different brands and colors. They also are glad to assist customers with the finishing of their projects, and have the necessary finishing products for pillows, belts, and even sandals. Speaking of belts, they had some local team belts including the Reds, Bengals, Buckeyes, and UK, while they can also get a hold of designs for other teams and universities. A somewhat funny item they also sell at A Stitch Above are Peepers brand reading glasses, which could probably come in handy if you are working on a tiny needlepoint project. Another thing I liked was the Cincinnati skyline-themed canvases, although they are priced at $94.75.
