I was in the area, and decided to check out this Michael's location rather than go to the location I was planning to. They had all of the basics one expects to find at a craft store. Michael's also carries gifts, and holiday decorations. For being there not long after they opened, the store was not particularly clean. A number of products were on the floor. Not because they were intentionally put there to be restocked, but people dropped them there, or they got knocked off the shelf the day before, and they were waiting to be put back. Several products did not have prices. There were several buy one get one sales going on. I was passed by several employees. None of them greeted me or asked if I needed help finding anything. At one point I was standing next to two employees. One associate told the other "I'm going to walk around and look like I'm busy." The cashier on the other hand was friendly. She asked if I found everything I was looking for. She also inquired if I was a rewards member. She made sure to bag items with care.

I've even seen them find coupons for customers who haven't brought any themselves! The loss of 1 star is for the occasional register or cut table back-up. Only 1 star lost because it's 50/50 store/customer (not enough registers/ coupons not ready, indecision in cuts or what to do if there isn't enough fabric on the bolt). If you're in a hurry, it's a toss up if you'll get out in the time you planned.

When I got into the store, I was pleased to see that not many people were out and about. I was able to grab what I needed and get out of there quickly. I did need help finding specific material, and one of the workers took time to help me. Every employee I encountered was very friendly, despite the circumstances. They were there to help and wanted to help me find all that I was looking for. I had no idea how much home decor this store had! If we were not in the middle of a virus, I would have stayed around and looked through all the spring decor. They had some really great things! I am making a mental note to remember this once quarantine is over. I also appreciated the sale on the items needed to sew masks. I had looked into this store, as they were putting together mask kits for people to help sew masks for those employees in need. I really appreciate the store doing their part to help during this time of need. It was certainly a nice gesture!

About the norm. If…read moreyou've ever been to a Michaels before, or better yet if you've ever been to multiple Michaels before, you'll find that they're all about the same. On the positive side, they have a great framing department, and everything you can think of when it comes to crafting and DIY hobbying. They also have a lot of fun and different baking items and molds to work with for holidays or parties. On the downside though, understaffed. Almost always. Even at their busiest times, which is usually the Christmas holiday season, always understaffed. At times, I've waited in line for up to 25 to 30 minutes to check out. You have a store full of people, you have six to eight registers, and you have two registers open with a line of 20 people deep. Would I go back? Yes, I would. And I will go back. Michael's is its own thing. I'm not saying there aren't other craft or hobby stores like it, but Michael's has what I need. Unfortunately though, I dread having to go there. At least during times when I know it's going to be busy. Here's a tip: If you're going to go to Michaels, make it during a weekday or non-peak time like a weekend or during the holiday season.

I pick stuff up from here for my nieces and nephews to keep them occupied with something other than tv! They always have good deals on canvas and other painting needs (good for me!) Definitely a better choice than your expensive art store. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have all craft needs - TONS of stickers. I'm definitely a fan :-)

Dawn, the owner was really helpful & put me at ease right away. She took the time to help me pick out my first piece & the fibers to use. She said "There are no needlepoint police" that helped me not to worry whether I was stitching it correctly or not. I've been an avid stitcher ever since! They have since moved to Mason. I went today & even though it was further for me it was worth the drive! It's probably more convenient for a lot of people. Check it out. You will be happy you did!

If you are a beginner, they can get you on track with one of their beginner level classes, although they even offer classes for the more advanced needlepointers, if you will, often taught by "nationally recognized teachers." A Stitch Above is on the second floor of the Olde Madeira Plaza, and like many of its neighboring shops it has been in its present location for many years (20 to be exact). A Stitch Above has a vast array of preprinted canvases, as well as one of Cincinnati's larger selections of fiber. There were just SO many different fibers from all different brands and colors. They also are glad to assist customers with the finishing of their projects, and have the necessary finishing products for pillows, belts, and even sandals. Speaking of belts, they had some local team belts including the Reds, Bengals, Buckeyes, and UK, while they can also get a hold of designs for other teams and universities. A somewhat funny item they also sell at A Stitch Above are Peepers brand reading glasses, which could probably come in handy if you are working on a tiny needlepoint project. Another thing I liked was the Cincinnati skyline-themed canvases, although they are priced at $94.75.
