I've only done one class there. The pizza class. It was OK and the product that we made was a good pizza. My issue was that one couple was very late (20-25 minutes) and the chef waited on them to arrive before he started. Also the fancy story he told about the origins of Detroit style pizza didnt sit right with me. When I got home I did some homework and found that his story was out on the edge of being correct but 95% of the story had no basis in fact. The reason I didn't too foo the whole facility is that there are other chefs there and other learning opps that could be great. read more

Coming back to report on another INCREDIBLE Learning Kitchen experience. My husband and I took a beef wellington date night class. The lead chef was very informative and helpful. He kept the class moving and created a fun atmosphere. We made an arugula, melon, and burrata salad, beef wellington, buttery fondant potatoes, and asparagus. All of the food turned out amazing, and paired really well together. We will definitely return for another class, and I think it would really be fun to come with friends. read more

The facility is perfect for the classes as there is seating for dining and a large connected kitchen area. One has easy access to make a drink purchase (beer or wine available) before or during the class. All staff were super friendly and helpful. Thanks to Chef Tim for leading us in a fun evening of cooking and learning. We took the class for making Papardelle pasta and braised short ribs. Instructions and ingredients were perfect. My partner was so happy that we actually made pasta from scratch. It tasted great. Super fun date night experience. read more

We so enjoyed our class! I ran across The Learning Kitchen and found that they had a Indian Cooking class. I have a friend who loves Indian food. This was a couples class so I called her up to see if she wanted to be my other half in the class. So we signed up in October for a class in January. Now I am glad we signed up early as we found out that there were 80 people on the waitlist for the class. They told us it was one of the most popular classes. Class was for two hours 6-8pm and I arrived pretty early at about 5:20pm and they were getting everything ready but still greeted me as I came in the door and showed me where the aprons were, the restrooms, the complimentary water, and the wine & drinks available for purchase. I did indulge in a Riesling. They also have some kitchen items, olive oils, butter bells, etc for purchase. I washed up and put my apron on and it smelled so good in the kitchen already from all of the open pre-measured spices. My girlfriend arrived and we filled out a name tag and got ready to cook! There were 14 people in the class! It was a very friendly atmosphere and for some it was not their first time. Each couple had a cooktop with pans, a cutting board, spoons, forks, chef knife, mortar and pestle, tongs, a spoon for stirring the sauces, and pre-measured spices. Under our station were our dinner plates, naan dough, aluminum foil for the naan, gloves, and our prepped ingredients including marinating chicken. They led us through each cooking step and explained about the different spices, the cooking was a breeze really. There was conversation through-out and really a relaxed, fun, well planned class. Also there was an added bonus at the end when I purchased an item from the shop of 10% off the day of class. Everyone finished at the same time and plated their food. We plated Saag Paneer, Chicken Makhani (butter chicken), Jeera Chawal (cumin rice that was pre-made), and Naan. We enjoyed our meal and decided we would come again for another class. As we walked out a couple from the restaurant next door stopped us and asked us how it was and if we thought it was worth it. We answered that we had a fun night and learned a few things and that we would recommend trying it. read more

Our journey to The Learning Kitchen was to learn how to cook Chicken Saltimbocca, an Italian dish made with Chicken breast, thin sliced prosciutto Ham, Fontina Cheese & white wine. Sometimes following a recipe out of a cookbook doesn't get you to the finish line. That's where the Learning Kitchen comes in. In a single class, Gayle our instructor taught us to make our own salad dressing, a creamy risotto (without cream) and our main course of Chicken Saltimbocca. This was a fun learning experience where you get to eat what you cook. They won't make you a chef but they will definitely upgrade your culinary skills. You get to interact with other students and share cooking ideas. We found the class to be a very enjoyable experience, the food was delicious and we learned some tricks of the trade. read more

I've always loved this place. I've taken cooking l classes over the past few years. So evidently there's a new chef teaching. I did not enjoy his class. He makes smart-mouth comments. When you ask him a question, he just gives a smart mouthed answer. We pulled mozarella. And I asked where you can get fresh, unpulled mozarella, and he said from a cow. He never really answered my question and someone else in the class had to tell me. After that, I didn't feel like I could ask any questions. The previous chef welcomed questions and was a wealth of information. This guy just wanted to brag about the celebrity chefs he knew. He also went way too fast like he was in a hurry to get out. I won't be back back fortunately, there are other options. read more

Learning kitchen is a great place to go with a friend or significant other. They hold many classes and you don't have to be an expert to try. First time we went we made Paella and Arroz con Leche. I very much enjoyed the experience of learning how to make these dishes and found out I like Arroz con Leche. Highly recommend doing this if you're interested in learning something new. I am very happy with this establishment. I enjoy very much the style of cooking along with the instructor. The staff are terrific. Shout out to Neil, Elena, and Brittany. I WILL be back. Food is delicious and it's a lot of fun to make your own food and eat at a beautiful table setting. There is also very good selection of beverages, both, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I would highly recommend this place. The only drawback is that the head chefs do not let you sit and enjoy your meal and get to know the people in attendance. They talk the WHOLE time preventing any discussion at the table with the other guests. Please, let us get to know our neighbors and enjoy our meal without interruption. Came here for a work event and really had a hands down awesome experience! We decided to do the Homemade Corn Tortilla Street Tacos as a group. We had a couple vegetarians and we were able to sub in Beyond Beef instead of Carne Asada. Upon arriving we were offered beverages right away - we all opted for water while cooking and beers while eating. The set up here is great - each person gets their own cook top and makes all portions of the meal. Each cook top was set up with ingredients in the correct portions - we were taken through them all before starting. The chef had pre-chopped some of the ingredients for the taco slaw, but others we were left to chop and he instructed us through holding the knife correctly and how to chop each item in the correct way. After making the slaw, we moved onto the taco shells - we made our own taco shells from scratch! This was probably the coolest part of the experience. After the shells we learned how to cook the meat and then finally got to enjoy our tacos! We made 2 tacos with Fish and 2 with the Carne Asada and had cilantro rice, chips and guac and other toppings on the side. The entire meal was delicious and our chef was super nice and attentive. I definitely learned a lot about basic cooking skills and techniques, as well as tacos. Having the ability to make all portions of the meal makes me feel more confident in trying to reapply at home. I definitely recommend The Learning Kitchen if you are looking for a cooking class as the set up is one that can't be beat! read more

What fun date night! Educational, interactive, lively; we had a blast preparing a Halibut and Mediterranean salad dish while drinking a bottle of wine! The instructor was funny, patient, knowledgable and a delight to watch! The other attendees were of all different types of backgrounds, so the eclectic perspectives and personalities added to the thrill of the experience. I have been to several cooking classes and I have to say that I learned more here in one hour than I did in all of the others combined. You are standing the entire time and it does get messy, so wear comfy shoes and clothes you wouldn't mind staining. There is a small shop attached where you can buy kitchenware and recipe books. Alcohol is served (for a fee) to those wishing to partake in libations while playing with fire; this is fun - trust me. Don't forget to wash your hands often (for the love of all that's sanitary and holy, PLEASE wash your hands), and don't be a finger-licker; that's nasty. You're sharing oils and seasonings - have manners and etiquette. Most importantly of all - have a blast!! read more

I first went there to learn basic knife skills and have gone back several times for other cooking classes. While taking the knife class, one of the added benefits (and this one is huge) is that you get a chance to try out all the different knives they carry so you can decide which one feels better to you before purchasing it. Because the classes are hands-on and taught by down-to-earth, but extremely qualified instructors, you come away knowing how to make the dishes at home, plus get to eat that delicious meal there. If you are a wine lover, you can buy wine by the bottle or glass to drink with your meal, but they always have waters infused with fruit/veggies which are so tasty! You won't regret the time or money spent there. read more

For our Anniversary, our out-of-town daughters gave us the gift of cooking classes at the Learning Kitchen. For several weeks they asked if we had received our gift card in the mail but it never arrived. After trying to track the card down, after twice being told that it was mailed, my husband had to physically pick it up as it simply never arrived at our residence. Scheduling the class was easy as we were warned the classes fill quickly so we called on the 2nd of the month, right after the monthly calendar is published online. We had a good selection of classes to choose from and found a class we thought we'd enjoy. I needed to cancel our plans, due to unforeseen circumstances, one week prior to class and placed the call to co-owner, Jennifer. When I told her the reason for my call, she said that's fine as long as it's at least 10 days prior to class. I told her that was not the case and she became hostile, rude and loud, talking over me and not listening to anything I said. It was a bit surreal have a business owner dismiss a customer that way. She was shouting something about their generous policy and that as a previous reviewer stated, your reservation/payment is like a ticket to a sporting event. No refunds or rescheduling less that 10 days out. Her suggestion was to gift the evening to a friend...a generous suggestion to be sure. After our unpleasant conversation, I decided to juggle my schedule so my daughters could know we enjoyed our gift from them. We did attend, enjoyed the class, instructor and the menu. Would we return? No, I would never knowingly patronize a business with such horrible customer service. There are too many great cooking class options out there, many that I've experienced where none of this unpleasantness has been a part of our experience. read more

I went to my first cooking class at The Learning Kitchen this weekend as a day out with a girlfriend. Rather than Christmas gifts, we decided to do something more experiential and selected the brunch "Date Night" class. What I Liked: - Great instructor. Our chef, Kelly,was personable, informative, and let us make our dishes our own while providing technical guidance. - The space. I love that these classes are small - only about 24 work stations around a large, rectangular counter space. The induction stove tops are fabulous, even though they take a minute to get used to, for those of us with less fancy kitchens at home. All the equipment that is provided is of high quality and easy to use. - The classes. There's a variety of available classes, from basic technical training to specialty foods. Our brunch was Brioche Stuffed French Toast with Berries and a Potato Hash with asparagus and bacon. I really want to attend the Gnocchi class! What I Didn't Love: - When I booked my class online, I never got a confirmation or reminder email from The Learning Kitchen. All I got was a Paypal receipt. So I was a little nervous that I'd get there and they wouldn't have a spot reserved for us. - While I enjoyed the chef's creativity, the advertised menu wasn't really stuck to - our menu read "balsamic bacon," so I expected to learn how to make balsamic bacon, instead of just drizzling balsamic vinegar over the top of my dish. - "Learning" wasn't really part of this for me. Maybe I'm more advanced in the kitchen than I realized, but other than learning that you toast up one side of the bread before stuffing it for the French toast, I really didn't learn anything new. I also could have found a recipe like this online and executed it without the oversight of a chef. - The calendar and discount challenge. They only release dates one month in advance, so the classes I would like to attend get booked super-fast. If you sign up for a class on the day you attend a course, you get a 15% discount. Too bad there were literally no remaining classes in the following month I was interested in going to, so I'm out of luck on my discount. It's not the cheapest to begin with, so without the discount, this really will make me less inclined to go back, just because it's annoying. Overall, I have mixed feelings. The fact that you cook along with the instructor in a small-group setting is fabulous. I'd be inclined to go back for more technical classes rather than just a certain menu or food-type course. read more

We attended the date night filet and risotto class with Chef Jen and had a wonderful experience. we were greeted warmly on arrival and offered wine (at an additional charge of about 5$ a glass with a 20$ bottle option) and chose our station. The class started relatively close to the starting time but we opted to wait a little longer because one couple was late. We were guided through the appetizer and entree course on two adjacent stations with jobs given to both of us throughout the cooking experience. its clear that the menu was though out and that they had enough tasks so that we were both engaged and having fun while cooking. The cooking was done entirely by us and the chef simply helped instruct us throughout the experience. The meal was delicious and I think much better then had we gone to a restaurant and sat down and it was pretty awesome knowing we prepared it. all in all a good experience read more

I attended a date night grass fed burger with a potato hash and what I'll call a thing green bean ha! Our Chef was great for our first time. She made us feel at home even though we were a few minutes late. Heck another couple was nearly an hour late and they were treated great! It was fun and fairly informative. You get out of it what you put into it and most the other patrons were great. Met some good people. As with any business be familiar with the terms and conditions. I had no issues. I've been a decent cook for some time now, but like anything I do and enjoy, I wanted to get better. There are a few options in this area to take individual cooking classes, but I was intrigued at this idea of "The Learning Kitchen" and decided to check them out. I have taken two classes so far (Fresh Mozzarella and The Five Master Skills) and cannot recommend The Learning Kitchen highly enough. I am already trying to decide on my next class! First of all, the store itself is very cool and they have great stuff available. The staff are nice and helpful, and it is clear that they know their stuff. The classes themselves are fun and relaxed. You can't help but learn and you also get to use good quality equipment and see why tools can make a big difference. Most importantly, you will eat great food that you make! I have to imagine that many people (myself included) will say to themselves at the end of class, "This is delicious! I made this?" I would say that the classes are great for groups and couples, but don't be afraid to go solo! You will meet good folks and have a great time. read more

Checked out The Learning Kitchen after passing it a few times on the way to the Dingle House. The Learning Kitchen is very nice cooking shop, but where it really shines are in its cooking classes. On a whim, I got my mother and I into one of their classes as a Mother's Day gift and we both loved it so much that we immediately scheduled another one after that class. The instructors there are very helpful and patient with everyone in attendance and the recipes they teach for the cooking classes are spectacular. The atmosphere is very relaxed with everyone getting their own grills and ingredients, all utensils at the ready, and the whole place is spotless. On top of that, you get to eat what you cook, so don't eat dinner before coming to class! Sadly, you can't take the stuff you don't eat home with you and you can't bring in anything to drink -- but you still get to have all the recipes to duplicate at home anyway. They've also got a very nice selection of top-of-the-line cooking equipment if that's your passion (it will be after a class there), and if you're taking a class that night, they offer a discount on everything they sell there. We had the pleasure of having a class at the Learning Kitchen, "date night" cooking Steak au Poivre with potatoes au gratin and haricots vert (green beans). All in all, it was a very good experience, and we'd definitely go back. When you come here, you are basically getting a cooking class from a chef - not only about the dish itself, but also on principles for how to cook, and tips & tricks to use on a daily basis. Our chef was Mike, and he was great - very informative and learned a lot. (and the food was delish!) The good: - Definitely a knowledgeable chef who taught, and someone who enjoyed teaching. Can't ask for much more than that in a class where you're learning. - You go home with the recipe, so the need for notetaking is sparse. - Everything's well prepared and organized with no feeling of unprofessionalism. - You get to cook, then eat, and don't have to worry about cleaning :) - Small classes. Maximum of 12 people total is great! The Meh: - Cost is high for a dinner, but all in all, given that the materials are pre-prepared and purchased, and you're essentially getting to pick the brain of a chef for two hours - it's fair. - The description may be a smidge off from what is on the website. In our case, we did make the items above, but the description on the website mentioned an endive salad which we didn't make - realized this after the fact. - I can see that if you've been here multiple times, some of the "tips & tricks" may be repetitive - but as mentioned above, we're certainly planning on coming back! read more

Just finished a cooking class tonight 4/13/17. Class sucked. Class cost $75 and if it were free I would not return. Class started 20 minutes late. Course content was basic to say the least, nothing like description (only use kosher salt when cooking). Angry wasted over two hours and $75. Learning can be so much fun and the folks at the Learning Kitchen have figured it all out. As a single person I never thought about really experimenting with foods as I thought I make a recipe that could feed an entire family and just waste food. My favorite thing about the class is that I'm learning to cook flavorful foods for just one. I get to come home with recipes that I can try again for me. I recently took a class here to test the waters and see how I would like it. I was very impressed. The class I took (Five Master Skills) was small, about 10 people, which seems to be the average size. It was all hands on, which I was really hoping for. The instructor was friendly and knowledgable, answering any questions that came up. In fact, she encouraged us to ask anything. The product we used to cook with from the equipment to the food was of great quality. All of the kitchen stations use induction stovetops (which I am now sold on after using one) and all the equipment you need for the class is ready for you at you station. The atmosphere was great, open and friendly. A very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this shop for anyone interested in progressing or learning new kitchen skill. I know I will be looking forward to attending other classes there. The only negative is classes seem to fill up quickly, although this, to me, is a sign that they are doing it right. Hopefully they can add more classes in the future to help meet the demand. read more

This has become one of our favorite things to do each month for a date night. We love making the items we learn in class at home and have got way more adventurous in our culinary treats at home.
