Attended a cooking class, located in the back of the Rookwood store. My partner and I were paired with a couple at one station, and we took turns cooking as the instructor guided us through a pork dish with a side, churros as desert and hot chocolate. This fully stocked shop has amazing decor and seasonal items. The kitchen utensils are expensive but good quality - For example, I checked out a whisk for about $25. There are also clearance sections scattered around the store. They sell cute kitchen accessories like mugs, dish towels, and lots of good quality wood items like bowls and cutting boards. There was a cooking class going on in the back and the smell wafting from it was great. I highly recommend their classes to do with a friend or to sharpen your skills. In these continuing Covid times I was surprised to find no masks or distancing requirements. Actually groups of four worked shoulder to shoulder. Considering the cost of the class, I would have felt better with two people working together. That aside, the instructor was excellent, and overall everything was explained pretty well. If you're looking for a unique fun time or date night idea then look no further than a cooking class! We've taken several classes at the Rookwood location and they've yet to disappoint. Classes are always fun and well organized and the food you'll produce is amazing. I promise you won't leave hungry. You typically work in groups of four and they will pair you if need be. They facilities are nice and they have everything you may need to cook with and you always leave with the recipes, a thing or two learned, and a full belly. You can sign up easily online or in store and they also post a schedule there and in store too. In our past experience the classes fill up quick so this is something you'll want to look ahead and plan for. The cost Varys but we did this one which was Italian night for around 70 bucks each. The Sur La Table class is a fun and great date option. That being said, your instructor can make or break it. The food and cooking part is 5 stars alone. We did the Latin steak dinner night and loved what we made, and how everything was set up. I wasn't sure what to expect but you work in groups of four. Now for our instructor. She was kinda rude? Very condescending and acted very superior. I understand messing around, but being short when we're paying $90 a person, is not it. It really felt as if she didn't want to be there. I have another class coming up in Columbus so I'm eager to see how the experiences compare! read more

I was so disappointed when shopping here on Black Friday. I love browsing the store with their amazing variety of cooking paraphernalia! That part was great as usual. The downside was the customer service. In the past, store personnel would greet you and see if you need help. Today, a younger gentleman just ignored me even though I walked right by him. Not even a "hello," though he greeted others. When I checked out, the woman helping me folded the linens I purchased meticulously. Usually, store personnel thank the customer, right? Not a single word. I always thank them, and I did as I normally do. No response. This person should NOT be helping customers at the register. Yes, it was late in the day, but no excuse if you're working upfront with customers. read more

My fiancé got me a cooking class here as one of my Christmas gifts and it was such a fun date night! There were only eight people in the class and we were separated into two tables of four, so we did everything with another couple. A pro of this is that you don't have to do ALL the work - you can split tasks among people in your group and have time to watch/listen/learn/enjoy. However, that may be a con for people who want to do every step of the recipe themselves. A con to this could also come if you get paired up with people who are taking it seriously when you want to have fun or vice versa. Luckily the couple we were paired with were cool and liked to have fun and joke around, just as we did. Our chef/instructor was Rebecca and she was the best part of the class! She was very knowledgeable, engaging, and made us laugh a lot. She will even photobomb your pictures (she did warn us at the beginning haha) - photo evidence included! A big con for us is that they do not serve alcohol during cooking classes. However, you are technically allowed to bring in your own if it is not in the obvious wine/alcohol bottle. We brought wine in Yeti tumblers and they did not mind at all. However, it felt kind of odd because the other people were not drinking. In cooking classes we've done t other places, wine and beer was served throughout the entire class and just about everyone was taking part. Still, it's nice that you can enjoy some wine if you know this beforehand and remember to bring your own. The food was incredible!!! We made salads and lobster ravioli. It was my first time making any type of homemade pasta and now I'm set on getting the pasta making attachment on my Kitchen Aid mixer! The portions were not the biggest and there was no dessert (I have a HUGE sweet tooth so this was a disappointment for me). Still, all in all it was a fun experience. We will not be rushing back, but we're open to trying it again. read more

Let me start by saying I loving cooking appliance and cookware stores. I love to bake and I like to cook. LoL. What I love about Sur La Table is they have a wide range of products to choose from. They also have a lot of high end products and brands that a lot of other cookware stores do not carry. This is always the location I come to. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and willing to answer any questions. I also like that most Sur La Tables have a huge room in the back of their stores where they hold cooking classes. I plan to try one, one day. My only complaint about Sur La Table is price wise they are more on the expensive side. However, I guess that's to be expected as they sell high end brands. Overall, I love this cookware store and can almost find anything I'm looking for all in one location. read more

I took one of Sur La Table's cooking classes recently and really enjoyed it. What caught my eye was the name of the class "Great British Baking". Recently, my daughter and I marathoned the Great British Baking Show and loved it! Chef Ian and Ann(a) were amazing instructors. I found myself saying quite a few times - I didn't know that. They were very informative and interesting, too. As soon as I arrived, they offered Nespresso coffee and something bruschetta-like as a snack. The dishes we made were Strawberries and Cream Victoria Sponge Cake, British-Style Currant Scones and Savory Beef, Ale and Mushroom Hand Pies. The scones weren't my favorite. The bottoms seemed to be bordering on burnt, but I'm not a huge fan of them anyway. The Hand Pies were so good and they showed us how to make dough, too. The Sponge Cake was hands down one of the best desserts I've ever had, so having that alone made it worth the class. They give you a discount for your purchases that day, too. Just to be clear though, you are NOT making each dish for yourself, by yourself. For instance, in our class I was in a group of three. Some of the other groups were only in twos. There is someone who comes around and picks up the dirty dishes you have used which a girl could really get used to. I would definitely go again. read more

I love this store and hate to give it a poor rating but I need to let people know about one of their Christmas mugs - it's a potential hazard! I purchased the Nutcracker mug and two days ago used it to heat up milk in the microwave for hot chocolate. When I removed it, the handle was so hot it burned my finger and has swelled into a huge blister. I have never had any mug do this before. I went to the website and wrote a review that is still not posted yet. I then tried to send a message to customer service but it wouldn't go through. I had been appreciating the website for quite some time (especially their KitchenAid features), and was delighted to have been directed to this brick-and-mortar location whilst visiting Cincinnati. Merely hoping to find a teapot to offer as a gift, the mad 75% clearout happening at this location led me to stock up on all manner of basic kitchen essentials upon which I probably should not have splurged since I'm so far from my home base. However, this shop is rather fabulous in person and I've been feeling a bit "bare" as far as organisational/prep tools when preparing food for workshops, presentations, & other culinary "share" events during my time in the Midwest. They also have a large selection of grilling items, as well as fun items like lobster-shaped corn picks and flip-flop shaped coasters. They also have an extensive selection of gourmet food products and cookbooks. Sur La Table is the bomb. The only bad thing about this store is how I want to buy everything whenever I go in. My most recent trip to the store was an excellent experience. The purpose of my trip was to buy a birthday gift for my wife. Glenda, the lovely, amazing and helpful sales associate acted as my guide in helping me pick out a few things for my wife. Glenda asked excellent questions and gave helpful information all of which lead her to knowing what would be the prefect gift for my wife. Once we selects a few items, she took the time to beautifully wrap everything, and as a special surprise gift, put a bottle of olive oil in the box with out me knowing it. Needless to say, my wife was thrilled with what she received and we were both surprised by the olive oil. You can create great concepts and make them into stores. You can fill them with specialized and well sourced goods. You can create a beautiful and compelling brand, but the glue that binds all these things together are the people that help run them. Sur La Table, Glenda should be an archetype for all hires that you make. If you can continue to reproduce the experience that Glenda gave me in the rest of your team, then your success will know no ceiling. read more

What a silly, officious store. It's a store that belongs in the "more money than brains" category. Or maybe it's the "there's one born every minute" category. No one who is serious about cooking would go to this place. If you need some heavy duty equipment, hit up a restaurant supply place and save yourself a bundle. This is a store for the non-serious home cook who really wants to show off all kinds of stupid gadgets in an over-sized suburban kitchen. But it's not all stupid gadgets. There's also overpriced gadgets. The $7 grapefruit spoon was nice as were the $15 measuring spoons. It even had a 'pinch' spoon. Sigh. I'd have provided a list of other over-priced stuff but I was too busy laughing. Oh, and don't miss the little bottles of gourmet ketchup. I looked for Dijon Ketchup to no avail. That being said, the place needs to be organized a bit better. There's too much stuff squeezed in. One item my wife was interested in was high up on a rack. I'm six foot and could just barely get it down for my five five wife. I'm sure they make the rent through their wedding registry. I can just imagine the conversation: Husband: How much you want to budget for Frank and Sheila's kid's wedding gift. Wife: I don't know. We don't really like them. How about $75? Husband: Fine by me. Wife: I'll swing by that Sur La Table place they're registered at tomorrow. Later that week...... Husband: So what'd you get Frank and Sheila's kid? Wife: A ladle. Update on second cooking class, which had already been booked. Thank goodness it was MUCH better. Still not much in skill development, but the food we created was amazing. Simple Thai. Except for so many unusual ingredients, it was easy and yummy. Instructor knew his stuff this time and gave some ideas on where to get the unusual ingredients and what to substitute if you can't find some. So, at least an enjoyable couple of hours, even if I did not learn any new cooking skills. read more

While Sur la Table is likely able to satisfy whatever kitchen-related needs you may have (and some you may not be aware of until you stumble upon the product), this is not the most customer friendly location. I went in with a couple of products in mind and had to hunt for an associate. When I asked her where to find a product she walked away from me (she was stocking something) and then came back and I had to ask her again- I kind of felt like a bother. With her direction I was able to find what I needed and in reality it was probably more expensive than other locations would have been. I probably will not return unless I am looking for a difficult to find item because the service is not very friendly :/ read more

This review is about the website which completely lied about when an online order would be delivered. The website said it would be delivered within 24 hours, but after I paid for it I got an email stating "Due to the extra precautions being taken... your order may take longer to process and ship." I called their main customer service number and was told it would arrive today by 3:00. But when I looked up the UPS tracking the label had not even been created. I called back at 1:30 and was told it would not arrive for 5 to 10 business days! I tried to order the item online and pick it up in the store that didn't work despite statements to the contrary. The customer service number at the store even has a waiting message that says you can order online and pick up in the store, but that didn't work because the website did not know what inventory the store had and it said the item was not available at that store even as the store associates told me they had it in stock. read more

I've been going to this store around the country for years but vow never to again. This won't affect you if you're white so my review is only for people of color. I went in to buy some things, went to the counter and stood for five minutes. The entire time the middle aged lady working was on the phone and did not so much as acknowledge I was waiting to pay. I've had this treatment a lot and so today I decided I'd had it, and left my merchandise at the counter and left. Even when I said I can't believe you won't even acknowledge me, she didn't say anything. This is a store that would clearly prefer brown and black bodies not to come in and I won't anymore and I urge others not to. That store did not deserve my money today or in the future. read more

I was looking for a great Father's Day gift and Sur La Table helped me out! They had some great grill items on sale, especially for the occasion. A sales person even asked me if I would like a cup of coffee or a cappuccino upon entering the store... how hospitable! The returns were SUPER EASY to do too! I bought my mom a gift (so she wouldn't feel left out on Father's Day) but she ended up thinking she wouldn't use it... so I had to return it :( Luckily the return was fast and easy and I didn't feel guilty at all :) read more

I got the class for my mom for Xmas so we were really excited. We got there right at the start of the class and the staff made us feel really awkward. The dish washer lady made a really rude face to my mom when she asked her a question. There were way to many people in the class so we barely got to do anything related to the preparation. Worst customer service ever. The staff was extremely rude...why work in customer service if you hate people?

The sales staff could use a lesson in customer service. An arrogant attitude prevails and is unnecessarily dismissive. I witnessed this attitude being served to other customers as well. The staff I spoke with on two occasions were focused on the superiority of their own products and showed ignorance when not understanding or having depth of product knowledge in the field. Arguing with a customer's factual information seemed more important than simple courtesy and sense of kindness. Such a shame. With such steep pricing it is easier to buy elsewhere. This is an example of what puts specialty stores out of business. Why not let more depth of knowledge for the informed cook and friendly customer service for all be what your customers remember? read more
