The lanai is an open one and I loved it. I've stayed in the condos with glassed- in lanais and these are nice too, however my preference is open. We saw turtles and so many whales while just having coffee out there! Our unit is clean and appointed with everything we needed including snorkel gear, binoculars, kitchen dishes and cute copper bottomed pans. There are ceiling fans and we did not even use the air conditioner. Maui Kai has taken steps to be covid safe with mask requirements and protocols includeing house keeping. We were able to get more towels and shampoo as needed. I left our used towels out, called for new and the very friendly housekeeper was there within 15 minutes. Our well traveled friends stayed in another unit and loved it saying they will be back! So will we. We enjoy the quiet vibe. Maui Kai is at the north end of the kaanipali beach walk and walking distance to Dukes if you want a cocktail at sunset. We walked across the street to the Times supermarket and noticed there are also food trucks. The pool is small and between the entrance and parking lot which is fine. Believe me, there is no room for it in front because you are right on top of the water! The prices are normal for Maui, but the value for the view is superior. This isn't a peek at the ocean. You are beach front here. My only small complaint would be the size of our kitchen and perhaps it needs a bit of freshening, but everything thing worked fine and we cooked meals. This is a condo rental, not a resort with room service or activities. It's a place adults will like for quiet, privacy and spectacular views.

They even gave us a few snacks such as chips and water. They also supplied body wash, shampoo and conditioner. My only thing was that I wished the outside pool was bigger. Not that I came there to hang out in the pool. So thats pretty minor. I loved our unit. We were facing the water. I would definitely stay here again if it's available during my booking process in Maui. They offer free parking. Also lots of nearby eateries. So Aloha to you & yours.

Best of all, the beach is literally about 10 steps away, making it easy to relax and watch the honu (sea turtles) during sunset, such a special experience. The unit came well equipped with a king-size bed, a full kitchen, microwave, a fridge, and all the basics you'd need for a comfortable stay. We were also given two keys, which made it convenient to access the pool and hot tub. Our lanai had an amazing ocean view and became our favorite spot to enjoy meals and unwind. I've honestly never stayed anywhere that felt so peaceful and relaxing. While the property may look a bit dated, that's part of its Maui charm. We booked the room through Airbnb, but it's also available directly through My Perfect Stays. My only wish is that checkout were a bit later, 11am instead of 10am, since we had a red-eye flight home and a lot of time to fill on our last day. Still, an amazing stay overall that I'd happily return to.

Unfortunately, the description doesn't let you know of the 10 units in that building share one hot water tank that is located in the laundry room at the other end of the building. Which had really hot water as we went and tested. We had a W/D in our unit We had lack of hot water in the unit. It took 10 minutes to get the shower barely warm. No hot water in the bathroom sink. We hoped the dishwasher got warm to clean the dishes. We alerted Myperfectstays the next day of the issues. They said they would have someone come by and keep us updated. Nobody came by and no response received. Stained towels and cleaning wasn't great. We had friends staying in unit #107 and their dryer didn't work so they came and used ours. We've stayed many times in other resorts up and down the West side of Maui that were impeccably nice. We have stayed with this management company in the past with no problem. I spoke with the onsite management regarding the water issue is how I found out of the one hot water tank. She said she'd have Greg come by and check to see if it were a power surge? Really, no visit from Greg either. We've never given a bad review before but honesty is best. Hopefully they'll make some changes. Mahalo August/September 2026

This condo, the owners, and the location are all absolute top-notch!…read more This condo building is in the Aston Mahana complex on the north end of Kaanapali. It is definitely NOT the typical outlandish resort you find scatted across the shores of West Maui. No 10-acre pool, no swim up bar, no on-site restaurant, no plethora of over-priced clothing stores. If you really want those things, try elsewhere. What THIS location has, in spades, is a genuinely quiet, comfortable and slow-paced experience.... with a nice pool and jacuzzi, relaxing and shaded lounge chairs by the pool........ 8 steps from the beach.... with free parking..... no crowds...... secure access...... super-easy walk to Dukes on the Beach on the paved walkway.... and you can stroll to those other busy resorts if you like! Unit 1218 is a penthouse condo perfect for a couple. Walk in and you will be simply blown away by the unimpeded view of the ocean, the beach, Lana'i and Moloka'i Islands... through a floor-to-ceiling glass wall. Or... step out on your VERY private lanai, slide the screens to the side, and breathe in that fresh ocean breeze. The furnishings and general decor are simply outstanding. The owners have gone to extreme lengths to ensure that everything you need for a comfortable stay is there. Meaning..... gourmet-level kitchen pans, utensils and spices... TWO coffee makers (K-pod and regular drip)...two folding (and uber comfortable) Tommy Bahama beach chairs.... beach and pool towels.... ice chest.... boogie boards.... swim fins..... the list goes on. Absolutely amazing. Two gi-normous LED televisions. Secure wifi. Bring your Amazon or Netflix login codes... and use them on the smart TV's (just deactivate your codes when you leave!). Like you will be watching much television. We cannot say enough about this experience! You will NOT be disappointed!

We've been coming here since the 80s and not much has changed about this place. It is…read morewell-maintained, considering its age. At some point, the owners sold off each unit and now every unit there is individually owned and managed thru Vacasa . com (at least that is who you end up booking with when you go to Mahina Surf's website to make a reservation. Therefore, amenities will vary by unit. There is a review here from June '23 stating her unit provided everything (beach chairs, cooler, etc.). She was lucky her unit provided that, but those are not standard amenities the property provides. My unit (#221) had some old random pool noodles and boogie board. Maui is gorgeous and this property is just as beautiful in the photos and is right on the ocean, but just know, your beach access is a beach full of rocks. It's not your regular swimming beach. There's nowhere you can take a stroll on the sand. Either way, most ppl will drive to see all the other wonderful beaches in Maui. Units there are only 1 or 2 bed. 2 bed units are all on 2nd floor. You get a full kitchen with standard amenities (dishes, cookware, utensils, etc.) Some units like mine had cooking spices in the cupboards, leftover pantry items like coffee, sugar as well as plastic containers food prep dishes. Property has a nice pool. No umbrellas (they get blown away by wind) there but plenty of lounge chairs and a few tables. You are equipped with ONE set of bath &beach towels & bed linens. That's it. So depending on how long you will stay, you will need to wash. There's co-op machines. Our unit provided about 5 loads worth of laundry detergent & tabs for the dishwasher. You need to be careful and read about what each unit provides before you book, because it tells you. They DO NOT provide any cleaning supplies. SO BRING YOUR OWN. I brought a 3oz TSA approved spray bottle of Formula 409 and Clorox wipes. You will need to clean because of bugs. There's a Safeway (Vons) nearby & a Costco close to the airport. Costco will have the best prices. Also tons of ABC stores (Hawaii-based general store) where you can get just about everything--but EXPENSIVE. The units have louvered windows and a huge glass sliding door to the balcony/lanai so there's a lot of openness, hence bugs. You may find bug traps (ours had them). It's Hawaii, there's bugs. Anyway, you really can't get away with keeping everything closed up because none of the units there have any AC. I went in July and it was quite hot. There is almost always a breeze, so it's tolerable, but just so. I've also been there in November, but that was 20 years ago, so with climate changes, who knows now lol. Vacasa also provided a few hotel-style toiletries like shampoo and lotion, but bring your own from home because buying at the store is very pricey. A small package of baby wipes at the store was almost $10 for example! Nevertheless, it is Hawaii and almost everything will be double if not more than the mainland.

Hale Mahina Beach Resort - B304 interior, very nice to stay at, on Airbnb

We initially booked a condo in this resort via Airbnb but later the management changed and our…read morereservation got transferred to Hale Mahina Beach Resort. We stayed for 4 nights in July including my husband, our toddler son and myself. Our unit was A202. Pros: - There's private beach access and a swimming pool inside the resort. The beach is fine sand and the waves can get a little rough. Many people were snorkeling and swimming so probably not unsafe. We didn't go snorkeling as we don't know how to swim and our toddler didn't like the waves. But that's on us. Overall a great private beach. - There's a shower and foot wash so that you can leave the sand at the beach. There are also beach towels, two pretty new beach chairs and an umbrella in the unit which we carried to the beaches we went to. - The building is in close proximity to Lahaina Harbor and Whaler's Village, making it quite a prime location. - There's a TV with an internet connection, a well appointed kitchen, washer dryer and dishwasher. The Internet needed some router restarts but eventually it did and then worked seamlessly. - The unit was cleaned well too. There's ample parking and an elevator up to the units. So quite accessible as well. Cons: - The bedroom and the bathroom have no access to the single portable AC and can get quite stuffy and hot. We were visiting in July and this was a major concern. There's no ventilation in either of these and that made it worse. - Even the living room doesn't get cooled down much by the single AC. We at times wished we stayed at a hotel with a kitchen rather than here due to the heat. - The unit is overall small, almost like a studio apartment with some makeshift doors. I think it's partially on Airbnb advertisement where the previous owner sold it like a bigger unit. It's good enough for a couple or a family of 3 with a little kid, like a toddler or smaller. - The bedroom is just beside the staircase so you can hear people walking up and down super clear and evidently they can hear you too. It mattered to us since we have a toddler and we needed to put on white noise to suppress this as much as we could. - The single closet in the bedroom is crowded with a lot of things so we used a couple of basket drawers to unpack our clothes. I wish there was more unpacking space.

Luckily, we decided on Hale Mahina, B304 was perfect for us and the beach was still literally a 2 minute walk and right behind the pool. The best thing was the fantastic view, we went to the beach at least once a day and saw sea turtles in the sand every time we went later in the afternoon. My wife and I spent every night lounging on the balcony enjoying the beach smell and sounds after we put the kids down. Another good thing to as proximity, very close to convenient places to eat, get groceries, and get gas. It was also a close drive to the more seculded north end of the island and all the tours and excursions south in Lahaina. Our unit was nicely maintained and nice, the building manager puts a lot of care into the building and cleaned the pool every single day.

Lamps were broken, dust was coating the walls in each of the two rooms we stayed in, the showers we not cleaned, the towels smelled like they washed dogs with them. When I say nothing was cleaned, I'm not exaggerating, everything was dirty. Fans were caked in dust, windows were coated in mildew and streaks, carpets were coming up in many places. Sheets were dirty, stained, and dressers were missing knobs and broken. What are people paying yearly for if it isn't upkeep of the rooms? The only saving grace?? Amber who does the booking for excursions. She is by far one of the nicest, funniest, amazing individual to book and find you the best excursion. Amber should get all the props for everything about this place. Let's also talk about the pool. The pool was great honestly but there is no security to help with only having it be resort guests only. Many locals come in and use it as well because people let them in or leave it unlocked. The jacuzzi at points was never warm and was filmy and nasty. This was my first time staying here and I was hoping for much better but it was a disappointment apart from Amber.
