The SEA TURTLES made it all worth it. Close to some of my favorite restaurants and beaches!! The pool was lovely (pool opens 8am-9pm). No beach here, the back is pretty rocky. The sea turtles were there every evening from 4pm til sunset. They are beautiful, gorgeous creatures, must stay 10 feet away! Laundry is $1.75 for wash and $1.75 for dry. Bring detergent. Must download and pay through an app (PayRange) Opens 8am-9pm. Free parking for one car. Condo had everything we needed for the beach. Umbrella, beach chairs, snorkel gear, sand toys, cooler!! Plenty of bowls, dishes, cups, pots and pans! Everything you need if you plan to cook!! There's also a bbq grill near the pool. I loved this place!! This place did not have AC, but surprisingly it was not hot. Nice breeze and fans in every rooms kept us cool. We kept the windows open. Each condo has their own wifi, fast speed! We've been coming here since the 80s and not much has changed about this place. It is well-maintained, considering its age. At some point, the owners sold off each unit and now every unit there is individually owned and managed thru Vacasa . com (at least that is who you end up booking with when you go to Mahina Surf's website to make a reservation. Therefore, amenities will vary by unit. There is a review here from June '23 stating her unit provided everything (beach chairs, cooler, etc.). She was lucky her unit provided that, but those are not standard amenities the property provides. My unit (#221) had some old random pool noodles and boogie board. Maui is gorgeous and this property is just as beautiful in the photos and is right on the ocean, but just know, your beach access is a beach full of rocks. It's not your regular swimming beach. There's nowhere you can take a stroll on the sand. Either way, most ppl will drive to see all the other wonderful beaches in Maui. Units there are only 1 or 2 bed. 2 bed units are all on 2nd floor. You get a full kitchen with standard amenities (dishes, cookware, utensils, etc.) Some units like mine had cooking spices in the cupboards, leftover pantry items like coffee, sugar as well as plastic containers food prep dishes. Property has a nice pool. No umbrellas (they get blown away by wind) there but plenty of lounge chairs and a few tables. You are equipped with ONE set of bath &beach towels & bed linens. That's it. So depending on how long you will stay, you will need to wash. There's co-op machines. Our unit provided about 5 loads worth of laundry detergent & tabs for the dishwasher. You need to be careful and read about what each unit provides before you book, because it tells you. They DO NOT provide any cleaning supplies. SO BRING YOUR OWN. I brought a 3oz TSA approved spray bottle of Formula 409 and Clorox wipes. You will need to clean because of bugs. There's a Safeway (Vons) nearby & a Costco close to the airport. Costco will have the best prices. Also tons of ABC stores (Hawaii-based general store) where you can get just about everything--but EXPENSIVE. The units have louvered windows and a huge glass sliding door to the balcony/lanai so there's a lot of openness, hence bugs. You may find bug traps (ours had them). It's Hawaii, there's bugs. Anyway, you really can't get away with keeping everything closed up because none of the units there have any AC. I went in July and it was quite hot. There is almost always a breeze, so it's tolerable, but just so. I've also been there in November, but that was 20 years ago, so with climate changes, who knows now lol. Vacasa also provided a few hotel-style toiletries like shampoo and lotion, but bring your own from home because buying at the store is very pricey. A small package of baby wipes at the store was almost $10 for example! Nevertheless, it is Hawaii and almost everything will be double if not more than the mainland. read more

I booked a 6 night vacation for my daughter through Vacasa Vacation rentals at the Mahaina Surf Rental Co. She was in unit 127. Upon arrival, the parking pass was missing along with a welcome packet. Called Vincent who supposedly was the rental manager. He was a total jerk and completely unprofessional. Issues with the unit included, windows that would not stay shut, bedroom door practically off the hinges and would not close, no sound to the TV, and a bed that sucked. I want to add, on the 2nd day of this trip, Maui was caught in the horrific winds and fires that devastated most of the island. The units at Mahaina Surf were ill equipped to deal with any disaster. No power, internet, or access to food. Any food brought or found had to be heated on a single burner stove located outside by the pool, which had to be shared by over a dozen residents of the complex. Mahaina Surf management...you're on a freakin island prone to high winds, fires, and lava flows. It would be prudent to, at the very least, have emergency provisions in each unit, or at least some manner of survival supplies. They would have been helpful to your renters, if not the locals who were impacted by this catrostic event. Not posting a picture. We won't be back to Mahaina Surf or use Vacasa services again. read more

My wife booked through booking.com. for the Big Island Hawaii. Somehow search took us to Mahina Surf. Found out this place was in a totally different island than Big Island. Had to cancel on time, Booking.com gave us refund. But Mahina kept $526 part of the $1026 charge. Disputed through American Express. Instead of working with us, Mahina sent us a 17 page pdf file of legal docs. No empathy nor negotiations considering we never set foot on that island. We pray for karma almost everyday against this place. Hope you guys don't get caught up in it when it does. They nickel and dime you on everything. Should you avoid shady business and peace of mind stay? Go anywhere else but this place. read more

Came here with kids 15 years ago so decided to re-visit. Unit was very small, no real customer service with Vacasa as their rental go between. Rediculous 10 AM check out and 4 PM check in, no flexibility. Just get a Bot responding to requests for exceptions. Basically you get 18 hours for $500 when you do the math. Most expensive and worst accommodation we've ever had. Online pictures pretend false facto and are really really old. In real, the accommodation is in really bad condition, mould in bathroom and kitchen. After alignmet with the local manager to pay only the 2 nights we spent (instead of 7) and get the remaining 5 back, the refund was not as aligned only 50%! We payed approx. 1.200 Dollar for 2 nights!!! Worst stay we had so far. read more

Stayed here for a week in December 2018 with our family for our wedding. So welcoming! We rented 3 condos and they were all next to each other. Beautiful views from all 3 condos and each condo had something that helped it stand out from the others. We wouldn't have had it any other way. So relaxing and it makes you feel right at home. Stayed here for 6 days in May 2021. Loved the condo and the grounds. Beautiful views of Lanai and Molokai from the pool. Right on the water with amazing volcanic rocks. We stayed in a unit without A/C, which at first I thought would be an issue. I don't know how hot it gets in the summer but we had zero problems with staying cool, and I am a STICKLER for when it gets hot. So if I was OK, you'll be OK. Condo is close to some amazing beaches as well as grocery stores and gas stations. Don't go to some fancy resort. Save your money. Stay here. read more

Awesome location. Right by the beach. Beach is rocky so don't plan to swim or snorkel but the sunset views are fantastic. Rooms were clean, well provided and costumer service was to the point. When we booked we thought it was a hotel but it's actually a condominium complex which was a nice surprise. They have washer and dryers, the pool faces the ocean and you can take a scenic walk along the beach (very rocky) and see turtles as they bask in the sun. The units have refrigerators and plenty of flatware. Great for those who want to grocery shop and cook at home. They have plenty of cookware and all units have a great view. My only gripe is no a/c and so we slept with our windows open all night and thus were exposed to the noise of other guests who were not mindful of others trying to sleep. Overall it was a great experience and I would totally book again. One other thing I don't think children in diapers should be in the pool, it seems that there were some families taking small children in the pool with regular diapers and let's just say accidents do happen. read more

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Mahina Surf in room 201 which has got to the best room on property! Beautiful ocean views from all rooms and pristine ground keeping. The location was great - just north of the city center of Lahaina. There's a little tiny beach area near the property that is swarming with sea turtles which was so fun to check out every other day. Overall, our condo was clean and had everything we needed/wanted in the kitchen. The check in/out process was as simple as it could have been! If I had to mention one negative about the property it's that there was no AC in our unit. I'm not sure what the norm is in Hawaii rooms, but it wasn't a huge issue because it cooled down perfectly in the evening (we visited in May). During the day it could get a little warm, but we were never uncomfortable in the room. The bedroom in the back seemed to be cooler than the other rooms and we felt very comfortable while sleeping. read more

This place is a must! Great condos that are kept in great condition. Marina surf is just a few steps from the lava rock beach where you can just enjoy the view or see some amazing sea turtles sunning on the rocks. If you prefer there is a park just a short walk from the condos which has a nice sandy beach. There is loads to do around here. Just a short drive to Lahaina town and shopping. Snorkel just off the beach if you like. The staff here is great. Friendly and helpful with whatever you need. On site washers dryers and laundry lines available for use too. If you're looking to stay in or near Lahaina, Mahina Surf is a must to book for a stay! read more

The unit we rented for two weeks, unit 202, but left after four days was in need of fresh paint... There is no air conditioning.... The wall art is horrendous... In fact, apparently the previous occupant took down one of the pictures and layed it against the wall backwards... The painting was there when we checked in...The bedding is dated... It's a no thrills place...The other units may be cared for better... We will not return... we found a place about a mile from there that we are a lot happier with... To repeat myself, other units may be nicer and better cared for.... Check it out, pictures, etc. before you book. My husband wanted me to include that there are laundry machines available, lawn area is kept up well, and he really enjoyed having the outdoor barbeques. read more

We stayed in unit 224. Upper level with balcony. You cannot leave food or fruit out for very long or ants will go after it. This place has a relaxed atmosphere (although not a lot of young couples). Great heated pool and great views. The turtles feed in front around 4-5pm and we could see whales (pretty far off) from our balcony. Lots of parking. We are pretty sure this place will be an annual event. read more

Maui's best kept secret . We have been staying at the Mahina Surf for 14 year and have never been disappointed. There are 57 units upstairs are all two bedrooms with a loft and first floor are all one bedrooms. Every condo has an ocean view. The condos are always clean and neat . I just stayed here with my family and it had an amazing view. There are sea turtles at the beach every day right outside the condo, please note there's a sign that's hard to see that reminds people to be at least 10 feet away from the turtles. They are incredible. The condos were perfect size, nice facility, clean, they have beach chairs, sand toys, and boogie boards to use. BBQs, beautiful swimming pool and right on the beach. I didn't give 4 or 5 stars because the location isn't great it's a long drive to do anything touristy, also there's too many rules. Who wants to go on vacation and not be allowed to talk. No joke one of the rules is no cell phone conversations allowed at certain times or near the pool. If you have kids forget this place. We brought kids and if they had fun at all in the pool they were scolded by the property manager. You are constantly being told you're doing something wrong by the property manager. Next time I go to Hawaii I will just stay in a nice hotel where my kids can have fun and not be afraid of breathing too loud. read more

We just spent Xmas in Mahina Surf with our 10-month old and we absolutely loved it! The condos were clean and equipped with everything we needed. We absolutely loved the view from our terrace (stayed in #105 and we even saw dolphins passing) and the intimacy- it is not one of these huge complexes that are popular on Maui. The swimming pool was very clean and the property is well maintained too. Location was also great- just a few minute drive to Kaanapali Beach or other beaches in the north. We have stayed at Mahina Surf probably 8 times. It is beautifully maintained with a gorgeous view. The salt water pool is perfect for lolling around. We've stayed in different units every time because we're confident that each condo is just right for us. This last visit was a tad disappointing, only in the fact that there was only 1 beach chair and the kitchen was missing some important things that visitors need and don't want to buy....can opener, baggies, foil, tupperware. Like I said, these really are very minor things, but would've been great to have. We will continue to come to Mahina Surf as often as we can....hopefully every year. Came here based on a friend's recommendation. The place is about an hour from Kahului airport (OGG) and located in a nice neighborhood right next to the shoreline. All the units face the ocean, pool, and propane bbq grill pit. You can spot a few sea turtles daily as well. It was kinda humid and warm while my family and I were here and I didn't adjust to the humidity til we are almost done with the vacation. I didn't find out the unit have NO AC until midway into our stay cuz the weather has gotten warmer. We stayed upstairs in a two bed unit. There is a bed and bathroom on the loft and the main floor. The unit also have a kitchen which include kitchenware and basic local ingredients in the cabinets. There is no daily housekeeper and they provide you with enough towels for your stay. Laundry unit is conveniently on site which helps when we need to launder our clothes and the towels. I definitely will come back when the weather is cooler. read more

This is great bang for the buck. The unit we stayed in (Mahina Surf #127) was very nice, and right on the oceanfront. We enjoyed lounging at the pool, and there were several beaches nearby (for instance, Kapalua Bay). The complex is pretty low-key, but Kaanapali and Lahaina are not far away and there are plenty of attractions there. We definitely wanted the condo because of the kitchen, and the prices for hotels seemed way too high in comparison. Would definitely recommend it. read more
