We rented out a one bedroom condo for the week. I'm so glad we did! We had amazing views. The room was fully stocked. We had everything we needed for cooking. The place was very clean. They even gave us a few snacks such as chips and water. They also supplied body wash, shampoo and conditioner. My only thing was that I wished the outside pool was bigger. Not that I came there to hang out in the pool. So thats pretty minor. I loved our unit. We were facing the water. I would definitely stay here again if it's available during my booking process in Maui. They offer free parking. Also lots of nearby eateries. So Aloha to you & yours. read more

Maui Kai - Beautiful views! - Vacation Rentals Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

I have been coming here since 1972 and always stay on the 7th floor. Whale and Green Sea Turtle watching is great from here. There is always activity to see from this view. The rooms are always clean and well stocked with whatever you would need for a trip to the beach. A short walk South on the beach and you end up in Duke's, a great restaurant right off the beach. The lanai is beyond compare as it is about 10 feet back from the surf pounding on the rocks directly below. I love beach hotels and this is by far the best location. They are wonderful people and hope you will give them your support. read more

We absolutely loved both stays at the Maui Kai. We've stayed on the 9th floor, which has breathtaking views of the ocean, beach and turtles galore. Then we've also stayed in their only 2 bedroom on the ground floor. It was incredible as well. Nice wrap around lanai, geckos all over and you can't beat the beach access. The grounds manager Mike is a great guy. Everyone makes you feel at home and the units are well equipped with everything you need to prepare a meal and go to the beach. Chairs, coolers, boogie boards. They pretty much cover all bases! Pool house has bbqs, kitchen and stove, ping pong, cornhole. We had a blast with our kids and when we came as a couple. read more

A hidden gem. In unit 204 nice unit except they enclosed the lanai and no where to actually eat outside. Can see the great ocean abd hear through screen and windows The kitchen has everything and Timmy Bahama beach chairs and umbrella abd cooler. Other people have left bogie boards. Abd I'm leaving straw mat noodle and beach hat. My only complaint is only given 2 beach towels and 4 sets of towels. I ended up washing twice during the stay of the week. No laundry or towel exchange I went through my perfect stays Killer sunset from my unit but always went down stairs to take my pics outside read more

My wife and I stayed at Maui Kai Condos (#803) for 3 nights in May 2018. Here are some things we liked about the place: 1. The staff were courteous and helpful. In particular, I want to recognize Richard, the maintenance guy, who helped recover my wife's earring from the bathroom sink where she had inadvertently dropped it. 2. Although they do not have a 24X7 frontdesk, they made arrangements for us to pick up the keys for our room on our first night in a manner which felt solid. (This is something for patrons to keep in mind - the frontdesk closes at 7 p.m. and so you want to call them and figure out how to get into your rooms). 3. The views from the room are great. You can wake up from your bed looking at the vast expanse of the Pacific. Here are some things we didn't care for very much and why I would be disinclined to going with Maui Kai again: The experience of staying here comes close to living in somebody else's house - without them in the house, of course. The reason it feels that way is because the place is stocked with (worn-down) kitchen utensils, cutlery, beach reads, sunscreen, and all of the paraphernalia that you might expect to see at someone's beach house. That is what makes staying in these condos different from the experience of staying in a typical hotel room. While all that sounds fine, the style and decor of the rooms is beyond outdated - they reminded my wife and me of the 1970s and was far too outdated for our tastes. We also found the bed to be not particularly comfortable and as a result did not catch a great sleep during our stay here. Guests who regularly stay at say, a Westin or a Marriott, would be very disappointed with the beds here - unless it is the case that different units have beds of differing qualities and we simply landed up at a unit that had not been updated in ages. Lastly, this is speculative and I am very hesitant to blame it on Maui Kai condos but I would note that both my wife and I had quite a bit of skin irritation after we got back home to Philadelphia from Maui Kai. My wife in fact had to see a doctor and the doctor said that my wife's skin rashes may have resulted from a hot tub infection and indeed we did take dips in the hot tub here. I bring it up in my review so that a) guests can be cautious in using the hot tub and b) in the event that management reads these reviews, they should make sure that sanitary conditions are being maintained in the pool and in the hot tub. read more

So I just had the most ridiculously amazing 4 days...our unit (1004) was absolutely PERFECT. The ocean view ... is gorgeous! The condo was well stocked with kitchen items.. dishes, pots, pans etc. The unit had 4 beach chairs and 2 boogie boards (in pristine condition btw) ... huge beach towels in addition to the excessive amount of bathroom towels. The A/C blew COLD ! It was awesome! We came for a wedding and lots of other couples also rented condos with "views " - ours was by far the best one! The ladies at the front desk were kind, though I had very little need to interact with them because my well stocked unit left me wanting for nothing. I will say that the pool is small, and not on the ocean side of the building- but HELLO! We are in Hawaii! So we wanted the beach anyway. There is a small beach within walking distance... I can't come up with a SINGLE complaint! Book it. Just do it! read more

We stayed at condo #904 for a week. This place has a lot going for it! * The room is truly ocean front! No partial views here and you are also not staring at your neighbors! * We paid about $215 per night + tax. Compare this to the place next door that charges $650 per night. * Maui Kai is right on Kaanapali beach, which is a really gorgeous beach that has both snorkeling and swimming spots! It's also one of the longest beaches in Maui, so it's perfect for a nice stroll. This part of Kaanapali beach is not as crowded as the one by Whaler's Village, but that's exactly what we liked about it. Several times we rented an umbrella and lounge chairs from Honua Kai Resort, which is a two minute walk down the beach (make a left when you come out to the beach, it's the second hotel down). All beaches are public in Hawaii, so you can take your towels and sit your booty down anywhere you like. * Our room had a full kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and a stove. The large lanai had a mosquito screen, so you can sit out and enjoy the sunset without any worries. Overall the unit was in a good shape and could even be considered very nice if they would furnish it with new furniture, but it didn't have that luxurious feel. The kitchen was perfectly functional and fully stocked, but could use an uplift. One thing to keep in mind is that each unit is privately owned and therefore has different furnishings and updates. * Great location! Lahaina is about ten minutes away by car. There is a grocery store nearby as well as the snorkeling gear rental shop. * We came to Hawaii to enjoy the gorgeous beaches, so we never looked at the small pool that is part of Maui Kai. * There was a lot of free parking next to the building. * We booked our room directly with Maui Kai, however they do not tell you the exact unit you will be renting. They originally put us in corner unit on the right side, which unfortunately was also facing the pool from the neighboring hotel. Even from the eighth floor we found it too crazy with screaming kids for our liking. We were looking for a quiet getaway and asked to be moved to another side of the building. It turned out they only had one other condo available, but it was on the other (left) side of the building, so we took it and it worked out great for us. Next time we may book directly with the owners through vrbo. read more

Maui Kai - View from our room! - Vacation Rentals Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

This is not a luxury condo resort. We were looking for something cheap but clean since we couldn't check into the Grand Wailiea until later. Your experience will be solely depend on which room you get. I thought I did enough research online to see the room and all. But when we go there....things were fine except for that bed. Yes we were only going to be a few days, but geez this fold out bed is terrible. By the third day, i really had to complain about it. Thankfully after they saw the condition of the bed, they switched us to another condo---WOW what a difference! this condo was updated with better furnishings and a new fluffy queen size bed!!!! All i can think about is why the heck did we not speak up sooner??? It's true, every condo has an ocean view so that is nice about this place. Each floor has washer dryers that takes 75cents per load. yes the building is older. But the staff is mostly very nice. Will I return, probaboy not. But great for those families who wants to come to this part of island on a budget. As most rooms comes with everything you need to cook, make dinner if you want to save money. The grocery store was walking distance. read more

I stay here every time I'm on Maui. The condos are spacious, nice, they're ALL oceanfront, most have decks, if not they have HUGE open windows. This is a true oceanfront condo. There is absolutely nothing to block your view of the ocean and sunset. From the edge of the condo balcony to the water it might be 30 feet. You can sit on the balcony and watch the ocean all day. We saw saliboats, canoes, kayaks, turtles, dolphins, etc. At night you can see turtles 12 feet from where the waves break on the beach. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Parking is plentiful, safe, close, and free. It is not a fancy place but it is quiet and relaxing. With the cross ventilation there is no need to run the air conditioning. We slept with the wide open sliding door to the screened in balcony and slept to sound of the ocean. We will go back. AFTER I MADE THE ABOVE POST WE WENT BACK AGAIN AND THE REVIEW REMAINS THE SAME. read more

It is very rare to get exactly what you asked for. Maui Kai really met our needs. We had others who stayed in really expensive fancy hotels. They came to our room and were amazed! Put it this way, our room was the place to hang out. The service was excellent! Everyone was extremely helpful, generous, and knowledgeable about all of our questions and concerns. We stayed during the time of construction, we could not tail construction was going on as far as noise was concerned. Maui Kai is our homily from home. Currently in Maui for my brithday. The Maui Kai has been a great place to stay so far. The staff is wonderful, everyone is so nice and informative. This isn't a place to go if you are looking for top notch amenities. They don't have a massive pool, golf course, etc. If you are looking to relax for a decent price - this is it. That ocean breaks up against the building so I sleep like a baby. We have a full kitchen to keep snacks and drinks. (Or cook if we want.) The condo is clean, doesn't smell like mold. And the sunsets are superb. I would recommend a stay here for sure! read more

Maui Kai - On cloud 9 at Maui Kai. - Vacation Rentals Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

Was staying at Maui Kai last week for 6 days. Not a luxury resort but its an economical option. Location is great - by the beach, across the street from Times Super Market, close to Avis/Budget car rental, parking is free and there are other restaurants close by. We took the taxi from OGG airport and it costed approx $95. We took Uber back to the airport for $53. I would recommend renting a car from OGG airport if you are planning to get a rental car anyways. The kitchen is fully equipped if you want to eat in. In the room there's also beach umbrella and beach chair you can use. The front desk people are not the friendliest. They don't seem excited when they see you. One lady was actually pretty grumpy when I was trying to exchange coins for the laundry machine (oh yea.. washer be dryer each cost $1.75, laundry detergent $1). But oh wells, good thing I don't really need to deal with them much. Overall, this place is a good deal if you are looking for an economical option. I would recommend. read more

Very Very Happy about booking this place! We stayed here for 4 nights and each night was awesome! We got an oceanfront view with a nice lanai where we were able to sit out at night and hang our swimsuits and towels to dry during the morning. This place is walking distance to the beach and there's even a little back boardwalk where I was able to go running and it connects all the hotels together nearby. This is a bit far from Kahalui airport, about a 40 minute drive (very nice drive tho) but it's close to Lahaina which is where all dinner and tourist areas are. This is also about 2 hours from Hana and Haleakala. The thing I love most about this place is they had beach towels, beach chairs, a full kitchen with a stove and all you can think of ready for you to use and borrow through out your trip. Great staff as well. I would def book here again if I'm ever back in Maui. read more

I never did get to stay here. The omicron surge hit during the time I was booked to go and as someone who cares about my community, I made the decision to not travel during the worst of the global pandemic. Two other hotels (one in Hana and one near the airport), the place I booked the luau, the whale watching trip, the two airlines I'd reserved ... every single business did the right thing and refunded 100% of my deposits (the Hana hotel charged a fair $25 cancellation fee). Maui Kai Condos said screw you. We're going to keep your $818 deposit and earn double. Stay away from any business that puts their mercenary attitude before doing what's right for community. read more

Maui Kai - Vacation Rentals Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

We love Maui Kai during whale season. There is simply nothing like a lanai right on the water to watch whales. We had a nice corner unit on the south side this time. The lanai is an open one and I loved it. I've stayed in the condos with glassed- in lanais and these are nice too, however my preference is open. We saw turtles and so many whales while just having coffee out there! Our unit is clean and appointed with everything we needed including snorkel gear, binoculars, kitchen dishes and cute copper bottomed pans. There are ceiling fans and we did not even use the air conditioner. Maui Kai has taken steps to be covid safe with mask requirements and protocols includeing house keeping. We were able to get more towels and shampoo as needed. I left our used towels out, called for new and the very friendly housekeeper was there within 15 minutes. Our well traveled friends stayed in another unit and loved it saying they will be back! So will we. We enjoy the quiet vibe. Maui Kai is at the north end of the kaanipali beach walk and walking distance to Dukes if you want a cocktail at sunset. We walked across the street to the Times supermarket and noticed there are also food trucks. The pool is small and between the entrance and parking lot which is fine. Believe me, there is no room for it in front because you are right on top of the water! The prices are normal for Maui, but the value for the view is superior. This isn't a peek at the ocean. You are beach front here. My only small complaint would be the size of our kitchen and perhaps it needs a bit of freshening, but everything thing worked fine and we cooked meals. This is a condo rental, not a resort with room service or activities. It's a place adults will like for quiet, privacy and spectacular views. read more

The room and facilities were very nice and better than expected. We had an issue being able to extend our stay for two days, and they tried to charge us 2-3 times what we had paid via expedia.com in order to extend our stay. I refused to pay that so we had to move to a different hotel which was a bit inconvenient. Anyway, as long as you don't need to get an extension, I believe you will be very happy with Maui Kai and we definitely enjoyed our time there. read more

Dear Al P of Maui Kai, Your website is very deceptive and does not state that you have no beach access! I did talk to Rowena, Tom and several other office people The 1st day or 2nd day we were there! We were told the beach has eroded and we could gain access at the end of the parking lot and across the street thru that parking lot and down to the boardwalk. No concern for my dismay about your facility not having beach access! If you really cared about how we felt about your facility you would compensate us for not being truthful about your facility! But at least I can warn other people thru Yelp's website! I tried to have a good time while in Maui, but your condo's didn't help. And your attitude and reply show me all that you care about is making money at the expense of others! Shame on you!!! read more

Maui Kai is a great 1 bedroom ocean view condo to stay in Lahaina. We rented Room 504 managed by a owner. Pleasant experience with fully equipped kitchen, bedroom, couch/bed convertible in the living room and other essentials equipped for beach activities like beach chairs, beach umbrella, snorkeling gears, beach towels and others etc. Wonderful sit out chairs and tables in lanai facing ocean perfect to enjoy your meals while listening to the waves/watching moon or simply just relax and read books. Several island exploring books were also available along with few DVDs. Washers/dryers are located in even floors costing 1.75$ each. Convenient stores/eat out places are located in close by complex. We never missed our home during our stay here. We would definitely come back again !. read more

4 star for the location and breathtaking view. However improvement needed in service. For 2 nights stay no house keeping. It's expensive.

Not happy because we carefully chose this place based on the pictures, reviews and location and seemed worth the $400/day. We were assigned rm 505 which is nothing like the pictures at all. Wall to wall shag carpet, popcorn ceiling, old ugly furniture, poorly cleaned and maintained and not updated in 25 years probably. Not a corner unit as pictured. Poor entertainment - basic cable. Bait and switch marketing so beware! read more

We have stayed at Maui Kai four times and this visit was not great. Our unit, 808, is looking tired and has a lot of deferred maintenance items that should have been corrected. Most of the windows were either difficult to open or would not stay open. They also all leaked so they whistled when the wind was blowing. The sliding screens on the west-facing large windows were damaged, had missing rollers and wouldn't close properly. Why didn't housekeeping report that the kitchen faucet was so loose that it spun around when trying to use it. The noisy A/C would not get the temperature below 74 degrees and was on constantly. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows smelled old and musty. The location can't be beat but the place needs some freshening up. Some units provide amenities like beach chairs and snorkel gear but why would you have just one set and one beach chair? How many singles stay here? read more

You know, everyone was so friendly here. We couldn't beat the huge enclosed patio, and the waves washing up on to that wild beach were heavenly. What an awesome view, too. But our room was never "quite" cleaned. On the first day, I left the maid a tip for encouragement. After that; nada. She would leave a lumpy bed which I discovered later had my pajamas left in it. Say wha? The shower came dirty, and the lint around the floor which was there when we arrived was never cleaned. The amenities were fine. The shower pressure itself was awesome. The kitchen had everything you would need, but I realized too late that dishes were put back dirty. Always, always, always, wash every dish before you use it in an unknown condo. (which I did after that one knife. Yuck.) Everything else was just fine. Think Golden girls from the 80's as far as decor is a concern. I would probably stay here again for $250 a night, but if I could afford elsewhere, I definitely would do that, too. So it's a solid 3 and especially good for the 50 something crowd. :) Ohh, and I didn't even mention the pool as it looked so depressing that we didn't bother. read more

We're staying here with friends who have been here before. Good: Our room is nicely renovated and clean. The complex is right on the water. All rooms face the ocean. The people at the front desk have been polite and kind. Bad: Because the complex is so close to the water, there is zero beach, and there is no reasonable access to nearby sections of the beach. Small but clean pool and spa. We had a complaint and the desk staff referred us to the general manager. He made it clear that he was completely uninterested in listening to us or doing anything about our complaint. Not just inattentive customer service: this was overtly hostile service. To me, the bad outweighs the good. They got my money this time, but never again. Not that the Maui Kai management cares about that. read more

If you are looking for resort/hotel type of location and have money coming out the wazoo this place is not for you. However, if you are on a bit of a budget yet want an ocean view, a place to make your own breakfast and to listen to the waves as you drift off into slumber you could not find a better location on Maui than Maui Kai. My husband and I stayed here for a week in #203 for our honeymoon and loved every minute of it. This is the kind of place where you feel right at home the moment you step though the door. All of the west facing rooms in this resort have an unbelievable ocean view. Literally, the ocean is crashing 30 feet below my patio table as I type! We greatly enjoyed the small kitchen to make our own meals whenever we wanted to save a little money. The decor in our room was lovely and everything we could ever want for a week on Maui was provided including beach towels and chairs, guide books, and even a insulated soft lunch cooler. My favorite part of our condor is the patio. I've watched the sunset almost every night I've been here and have yet to be disappointed with its beauty. The other great thing about Maui Kai is that although this resort does not have any restaurants, etc. etc. there are two huge resorts right next door if that is what you desire. My husband and I found it easy to visit both Dukes and the Ohana bar and grill for meals. Although I am sure it is not technically allowed we found it quite easy to walk next door and jump in the pool and hot tub. My only complaints are that the pool here is disappointing (small and surrounded by a concrete wall) especially if you see whats next door. There are BBQ's by the pool, but so far out of the way that we decided not to use them. Overall, this is a place I would highly recommend to my friends and family. read more

All I want for Christmas is a romantic getaway to Maui to watch the whales! I had three requirements Oceanfront, oceanfront, oceanfront. I wanted as unobstructed a view of the cetacean playground as is possible to get. After making reservations (kamaaina rates) for oceanfront rooms at the Westin (430/night+++) and the Andaz (450+++), we researched a bit more and found a charming alternative! $397/night no extra fees and 15% off corner 1-bedroom unit. The full resort experience...it is NOT. BUT, if you want the most spectacular view without the upgraded price and without all the non-negotiable add-ons then this is the place. We spent every sunset parked at the view and watched the whales frolic. We rarely encountered another person even tho they were sold out (parking lot was full every evening). Our room came with snorkels for two, beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, beach towels, etc. What it's got: Full unobstructed ocean front view Full kitchen Separate bedroom (slightly higher cost) Free DVDs rentals Free parking Daily maid service (it's not much but better than nothing-I love it when someone else makes my bed!) Super quiet (cinder block construction) A pool (not beachfront-it's in parking lot) The tv system accesses Netflix and Amazon video on demand (yay!!!) What is doesn't have: Room service Food service (Has Coffee every morning but it's weak) Attentive staff Bar NO resort fee NO parking fees NO cleaning fees We were soooooo super happy with our choice not to stay at a luxury resort. With all the money we saved we splurged on a $300 lunch a Mamas Fish House (OMG-so totally worth it!), whale watching with Ultimate Whale Watching, and just now- an amazing breakfast at slappy cakes (don't judge a book by its cover, don't let the name dissuade you-the food is WOWZA, and the inside is surprisingly cool!) Oh, and here's a great tip: walk 200yards to Dukes: happy hour from 3-5. $6 Mai tai and E'ola (coconut rum drink...my fav!) A most memorable trip to Maui A most memorable place to stay. Very pleased with the room! It started off a bit rough as we couldn't check in until almost 45 minutes after the original check in time, but my Guess is that the room needed to be cleaned. We stayed in 508 which was a corner ocean room. We were able to turn the air down and sleep with the patio doors open to listen to the ocean. Having my morning coffee on the balcony was so amazing. They were doing construction at the time, so we got a slightly discounted rate, but the construction was no bother at all. If we ever return to Maui, I will definitely try and get the same room. This place is for anyone looking for an alternative to the resorts in West Maui...if you want a resort, then don't go here. But for the rest of us, the Maui Kai is the greatest bang for the buck around. The building sits about 10 feet from the sand and our room had an uninhabited view of the ocean. Everything was clean, the staff was nice, they provide free coffee each morning from 7-9, and they are in perfect location. The Beach Club next door has a bar if you want to hit up happy hour, the beaches south provide for the best swimming, and there is a grocery store right across the street. But the best aspect had to be the lanai. We fell asleep each night with the lanai open and never used the AC. The waves put us to sleep and woke us up occasionally when the high tide kicked in. So the BFF told me I was writing a review and checking in at the wrong place...to heck with it! We stayed at Maui Kai for a week and I loved it! The unit we rented was on the bottom floor and beachfront....what more can you truly ask for in Maui? I suppose we could've gotten uber fancy but we spent less time in the condo and more time on the beautiful beach literally ten steps away or if your a midge like me like twenty. It is centrally located and is just a short ten minute walk to a few restaurants and a grocery store. I love to cook so I adored having a kitchen even though we didn't cook too often seeing that we were both feeling pretty lazy the entire trip but it was great to have the option! I stayed in suite 301. The property was clean and had an amazing location. I enjoyed the sunsets and down time, away from crowds and drunk tourist. The condo was quiet, the pool had travelers that engaged in friendly conversation and the surroundings were calming and tranquil. I love the free parking and close location to the grocery store (across the street) and restaurants. Area for improvement would be, the patio door had NO screen ( no bueno). There were several times I choose to turn off the AC and enjoy the Maui breeze however without a screen, we spent too much time chasing birds out the room. Some of the furniture ( outside lounge seat and dining room chairs) are in need of updating. The AC at night is loud and takes some getting used to. For those reasons I rate this properties general condition a 3 (time to update furniture and provide a patio screen door. The property is literally within a stone throw to the ocean. You can hear the ocean whispering all the time. If you are looking for beach, this is not the property for you, however going to close hotels or public beaches provide that need.
