My wife and I stayed at Maui Kai Condos (#803) for 3 nights in May 2018. Here are some things we liked about the place: 1. The staff were courteous and helpful. In particular, I want to recognize Richard, the maintenance guy, who helped recover my wife's earring from the bathroom sink where she had inadvertently dropped it. 2. Although they do not have a 24X7 frontdesk, they made arrangements for us to pick up the keys for our room on our first night in a manner which felt solid. (This is something for patrons to keep in mind - the frontdesk closes at 7 p.m. and so you want to call them and figure out how to get into your rooms). 3. The views from the room are great. You can wake up from your bed looking at the vast expanse of the Pacific. Here are some things we didn't care for very much and why I would be disinclined to going with Maui Kai again: The experience of staying here comes close to living in somebody else's house - without them in the house, of course. The reason it feels that way is because the place is stocked with (worn-down) kitchen utensils, cutlery, beach reads, sunscreen, and all of the paraphernalia that you might expect to see at someone's beach house. That is what makes staying in these condos different from the experience of staying in a typical hotel room. While all that sounds fine, the style and decor of the rooms is beyond outdated - they reminded my wife and me of the 1970s and was far too outdated for our tastes. We also found the bed to be not particularly comfortable and as a result did not catch a great sleep during our stay here. Guests who regularly stay at say, a Westin or a Marriott, would be very disappointed with the beds here - unless it is the case that different units have beds of differing qualities and we simply landed up at a unit that had not been updated in ages. Lastly, this is speculative and I am very hesitant to blame it on Maui Kai condos but I would note that both my wife and I had quite a bit of skin irritation after we got back home to Philadelphia from Maui Kai. My wife in fact had to see a doctor and the doctor said that my wife's skin rashes may have resulted from a hot tub infection and indeed we did take dips in the hot tub here. I bring it up in my review so that a) guests can be cautious in using the hot tub and b) in the event that management reads these reviews, they should make sure that sanitary conditions are being maintained in the pool and in the hot tub.

So I just had the most ridiculously amazing 4 days...our unit (1004) was absolutely PERFECT. The ocean view ... is gorgeous! The condo was well stocked with kitchen items.. dishes, pots, pans etc. The unit had 4 beach chairs and 2 boogie boards (in pristine condition btw) ... huge beach towels in addition to the excessive amount of bathroom towels. The A/C blew COLD ! It was awesome! We came for a wedding and lots of other couples also rented condos with "views " - ours was by far the best one! The ladies at the front desk were kind, though I had very little need to interact with them because my well stocked unit left me wanting for nothing. I will say that the pool is small, and not on the ocean side of the building- but HELLO! We are in Hawaii! So we wanted the beach anyway. There is a small beach within walking distance... I can't come up with a SINGLE complaint! Book it. Just do it!

This is not a luxury condo resort. We were looking for something cheap but clean since we couldn't check into the Grand Wailiea until later. Your experience will be solely depend on which room you get. I thought I did enough research online to see the room and all. But when we go there....things were fine except for that bed. Yes we were only going to be a few days, but geez this fold out bed is terrible. By the third day, i really had to complain about it. Thankfully after they saw the condition of the bed, they switched us to another condo---WOW what a difference! this condo was updated with better furnishings and a new fluffy queen size bed!!!! All i can think about is why the heck did we not speak up sooner??? It's true, every condo has an ocean view so that is nice about this place. Each floor has washer dryers that takes 75cents per load. yes the building is older. But the staff is mostly very nice. Will I return, probaboy not. But great for those families who wants to come to this part of island on a budget. As most rooms comes with everything you need to cook, make dinner if you want to save money. The grocery store was walking distance.

The most amazing view you could possibly have.

It is very rare to get exactly what you asked for. Maui Kai really met our needs. We had others who stayed in really expensive fancy hotels. They came to our room and were amazed! Put it this way, our room was the place to hang out. The service was excellent! Everyone was extremely helpful, generous, and knowledgeable about all of our questions and concerns. We stayed during the time of construction, we could not tail construction was going on as far as noise was concerned. Maui Kai is our homily from home. We are already planning next years vacation

We stayed at condo #904 for a week. This place has a lot going for it! * The room is truly ocean front! No partial views here and you are also not staring at your neighbors! * We paid about $215 per night + tax. Compare this to the place next door that charges $650 per night. * Maui Kai is right on Kaanapali beach, which is a really gorgeous beach that has both snorkeling and swimming spots! It's also one of the longest beaches in Maui, so it's perfect for a nice stroll. This part of Kaanapali beach is not as crowded as the one by Whaler's Village, but that's exactly what we liked about it. Several times we rented an umbrella and lounge chairs from Honua Kai Resort, which is a two minute walk down the beach (make a left when you come out to the beach, it's the second hotel down). All beaches are public in Hawaii, so you can take your towels and sit your booty down anywhere you like. * Our room had a full kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and a stove. The large lanai had a mosquito screen, so you can sit out and enjoy the sunset without any worries. Overall the unit was in a good shape and could even be considered very nice if they would furnish it with new furniture, but it didn't have that luxurious feel. The kitchen was perfectly functional and fully stocked, but could use an uplift. One thing to keep in mind is that each unit is privately owned and therefore has different furnishings and updates. * Great location! Lahaina is about ten minutes away by car. There is a grocery store nearby as well as the snorkeling gear rental shop. * We came to Hawaii to enjoy the gorgeous beaches, so we never looked at the small pool that is part of Maui Kai. * There was a lot of free parking next to the building. * We booked our room directly with Maui Kai, however they do not tell you the exact unit you will be renting. They originally put us in corner unit on the right side, which unfortunately was also facing the pool from the neighboring hotel. Even from the eighth floor we found it too crazy with screaming kids for our liking. We were looking for a quiet getaway and asked to be moved to another side of the building. It turned out they only had one other condo available, but it was on the other (left) side of the building, so we took it and it worked out great for us. Next time we may book directly with the owners through vrbo.

Was staying at Maui Kai last week for 6 days. Not a luxury resort but its an economical option. Location is great - by the beach, across the street from Times Super Market, close to Avis/Budget car rental, parking is free and there are other restaurants close by. We took the taxi from OGG airport and it costed approx $95. We took Uber back to the airport for $53. I would recommend renting a car from OGG airport if you are planning to get a rental car anyways. The kitchen is fully equipped if you want to eat in. In the room there's also beach umbrella and beach chair you can use. The front desk people are not the friendliest. They don't seem excited when they see you. One lady was actually pretty grumpy when I was trying to exchange coins for the laundry machine (oh yea.. washer be dryer each cost $1.75, laundry detergent $1). But oh wells, good thing I don't really need to deal with them much. Overall, this place is a good deal if you are looking for an economical option. I would recommend.

I stay here every time I'm on Maui. The condos are spacious, nice, they're ALL oceanfront, most have decks, if not they have HUGE open windows. They've got a nice pool, BBQ area, ping pong, free parking, beach towels, kitchens and a great staff. I'll always come back. One day when I win the lotto, I'll be back to buy ;)

It was a good deal. We stayed in 1007. The ocean view is beautiful, and the oversized windows opened on a Juliet balcony that we kept open the whole stay. The one downside was that there was no towel/bedding replacement service during our week stay.

On cloud 9 at Maui Kai.

The free valet was fantastic, and the room was spacious, clean, and had a gorgeous ocean view. We had an issue with our mattress and it was never comfortable. That was the big bummer of the stay. They replaced our mattress after we said something but it didn't fix the issue. When we laid down, we always felt like where laying way back like toward the headboard, feet higher than our head. It may have been a bed frame issue. It wasn't the worst, we just ended sleeping the other way. You have to call housekeeping to get service. That was super easy and they did a great job. All staff on site were wonderful. The grounds were well-kept, and we loved spending time by the pool--there were a few different pools, each with its own unique feel. Surprisingly, we went down the slide several times (haha it's not just for kids). Duke's on the property was a big plus. They had servers taking orders pool side. The food trucks nearby were fantastic, dealing distance away, and so much variety. they're open u til 8pm. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely come back.

The first time we stayed we did a one bedroom partial ocean, but this time around we did a studio and enjoyed the full ocean view. The staff have spoiled us with some sweet congrats cookies that we really enjoyed. This property also has a Dukes on site which is super convenient. They do get busy though so we've just ordered to-go and enjoyed our food on the balcony. One thing I wish this hotel did have would be a cafe, or some kind of coffee on site. There's a market in the other tower, but the building we stayed in has one under construction. I'm hoping they put a coffee spot because it would be perfect! We love the location and feel when we come here and the included parking is a HUGE plus! I couldn't recommend the Honua Kai more and we look forward to more visits here in the future.

Plenty of bowls, dishes, cups, pots and pans! Everything you need if you plan to cook!! There's also a bbq grill near the pool. I loved this place!! This place did not have AC, but surprisingly it was not hot. Nice breeze and fans in every rooms kept us cool. We kept the windows open. Each condo has their own wifi, fast speed! I will come back again!

At some point, the owners sold off each unit and now every unit there is individually owned and managed thru Vacasa . com (at least that is who you end up booking with when you go to Mahina Surf's website to make a reservation. Therefore, amenities will vary by unit. There is a review here from June '23 stating her unit provided everything (beach chairs, cooler, etc.). She was lucky her unit provided that, but those are not standard amenities the property provides. My unit (#221) had some old random pool noodles and boogie board. Maui is gorgeous and this property is just as beautiful in the photos and is right on the ocean, but just know, your beach access is a beach full of rocks. It's not your regular swimming beach. There's nowhere you can take a stroll on the sand. Either way, most ppl will drive to see all the other wonderful beaches in Maui. Units there are only 1 or 2 bed. 2 bed units are all on 2nd floor. You get a full kitchen with standard amenities (dishes, cookware, utensils, etc.) Some units like mine had cooking spices in the cupboards, leftover pantry items like coffee, sugar as well as plastic containers food prep dishes. Property has a nice pool. No umbrellas (they get blown away by wind) there but plenty of lounge chairs and a few tables. You are equipped with ONE set of bath &beach towels & bed linens. That's it. So depending on how long you will stay, you will need to wash. There's co-op machines. Our unit provided about 5 loads worth of laundry detergent & tabs for the dishwasher. You need to be careful and read about what each unit provides before you book, because it tells you. They DO NOT provide any cleaning supplies. SO BRING YOUR OWN. I brought a 3oz TSA approved spray bottle of Formula 409 and Clorox wipes. You will need to clean because of bugs. There's a Safeway (Vons) nearby & a Costco close to the airport. Costco will have the best prices. Also tons of ABC stores (Hawaii-based general store) where you can get just about everything--but EXPENSIVE. The units have louvered windows and a huge glass sliding door to the balcony/lanai so there's a lot of openness, hence bugs. You may find bug traps (ours had them). It's Hawaii, there's bugs. Anyway, you really can't get away with keeping everything closed up because none of the units there have any AC. I went in July and it was quite hot. There is almost always a breeze, so it's tolerable, but just so. I've also been there in November, but that was 20 years ago, so with climate changes, who knows now lol. Vacasa also provided a few hotel-style toiletries like shampoo and lotion, but bring your own from home because buying at the store is very pricey. A small package of baby wipes at the store was almost $10 for example! Nevertheless, it is Hawaii and almost everything will be double if not more than the mainland.

Hale Mahina Beach Resort - B304 interior, very nice to stay at, on Airbnb

Luckily, we decided on Hale Mahina, B304 was perfect for us and the beach was still literally a 2 minute walk and right behind the pool. The best thing was the fantastic view, we went to the beach at least once a day and saw sea turtles in the sand every time we went later in the afternoon. My wife and I spent every night lounging on the balcony enjoying the beach smell and sounds after we put the kids down. Another good thing to as proximity, very close to convenient places to eat, get groceries, and get gas. It was also a close drive to the more seculded north end of the island and all the tours and excursions south in Lahaina. Our unit was nicely maintained and nice, the building manager puts a lot of care into the building and cleaned the pool every single day.

We initially booked a condo in this resort via Airbnb but later the management changed and our…read morereservation got transferred to Hale Mahina Beach Resort. We stayed for 4 nights in July including my husband, our toddler son and myself. Our unit was A202. Pros: - There's private beach access and a swimming pool inside the resort. The beach is fine sand and the waves can get a little rough. Many people were snorkeling and swimming so probably not unsafe. We didn't go snorkeling as we don't know how to swim and our toddler didn't like the waves. But that's on us. Overall a great private beach. - There's a shower and foot wash so that you can leave the sand at the beach. There are also beach towels, two pretty new beach chairs and an umbrella in the unit which we carried to the beaches we went to. - The building is in close proximity to Lahaina Harbor and Whaler's Village, making it quite a prime location. - There's a TV with an internet connection, a well appointed kitchen, washer dryer and dishwasher. The Internet needed some router restarts but eventually it did and then worked seamlessly. - The unit was cleaned well too. There's ample parking and an elevator up to the units. So quite accessible as well. Cons: - The bedroom and the bathroom have no access to the single portable AC and can get quite stuffy and hot. We were visiting in July and this was a major concern. There's no ventilation in either of these and that made it worse. - Even the living room doesn't get cooled down much by the single AC. We at times wished we stayed at a hotel with a kitchen rather than here due to the heat. - The unit is overall small, almost like a studio apartment with some makeshift doors. I think it's partially on Airbnb advertisement where the previous owner sold it like a bigger unit. It's good enough for a couple or a family of 3 with a little kid, like a toddler or smaller. - The bedroom is just beside the staircase so you can hear people walking up and down super clear and evidently they can hear you too. It mattered to us since we have a toddler and we needed to put on white noise to suppress this as much as we could. - The single closet in the bedroom is crowded with a lot of things so we used a couple of basket drawers to unpack our clothes. I wish there was more unpacking space.

First, the atrium is open between all of the floors in the middle. Consequently, noise echoes into all of the rooms with luggage wheels rolling, people talking and laughing or screaming. It is quite startling when dead asleep. Second, there is no air conditioning. All of the windows need to be open for air, which also contributes to the noise level. We thought it petty to charge for coffee after the first day of the stay. We had booked a two bedroom and were given a loft with a downstairs bedroom with two full beds. That too, was disappointing as my husband and I booked it, but felt compelled to give the other couple we were vacationing with the larger bed upstairs. Overall, the space was very spacious with vaulted celings in the living room and huge kitchen that was well equipped, clean, and had easy access to the beach. There are some lounge chairs available on the beach, inside the roped area on the hotel side, but they do fill up fast. There is a strip type mall across the street had a small grocery store and eating places, including Miso Phat. Good sushi! If you read this and stay, you will be well informed as to what to expect.

Biggest annoyance tho, was that our unit hadn't been properly cleaned. Some personal items left behind from a former occupant, and most of the dishes and glassware had to be washed before they were suitable for use. While there are plenty of fans, there's no air conditioning, which is a huge miss for a tourist resort catering to folks not necessarily used to this heat. Unlikely to return here. Lots of choices nearby, will go somewhere else next time.
