We arrived at 5:00am and the crew was ready to go and was super knowledgeable about fishing the deep seas of Hawaii. Once we arrived they were super informative with regards to catching fish on the trip and even what happens in the event of not catching anything. We all know fishing isn't a guarantee but since this was our first time we thought we would give it a shot. We headed out to sea and threw in the lines. After a few hours in the trip we got a bite. We thought this was going to be a quick one but turned out we caught a 12' 470lb Blue Marlin! We were so thrilled and exhausted! This thing was a monster! It took all of us to reel her in. If Chris and Dylan weren't as experienced as they were, I'm sure we wouldn't have caught what we did. We headed back not only with a great story but now a few more friends. Once we arrived they hoisted the fish from a crane, snapped some pics for the local newspaper and interacted with the people standing near in aww with how big this fish really was. One of the best parts to this experience is when people asked the captain and crew how caught the fish they pointed to us and gave us full credit. That speaks volumes for people like us and shows us their true character! Hands down these guys love their jobs. When it came down to a taxidermy they had everything planned out and were ready to help get this thing ordered so we could hang on our wall at home. It was a total bust, no live bait, not a single bite, they didn't switch out baits or change tactics for 6-hours! The boat is small and one of the poor folks from Canada had to stay in the cabin the whole time. I was hoping that they would give options to abandon the sport fish and at least let us reel something small in. But it was crickets coming from Adam and Kill. Not a single person touched a reel. Save your time and money because Hinatea lll just doesn't have the goods.

The boat was not in good condition either. My sons were very disappointed. I would not recommend. When I booked the trip, I spoke to Josh. If he wasn't able to go, he should not have confirmed the trip. FYI, this is not a fishing charter. The crew had one single fishing pole for 5 people. They had lines in that would troll around. They would put bait on the one pole, drop it in the water and when there was a bite, they would allow someone to reel it in. The crew was fishing and everyone was watching. We found the Dolphin Watch Sail Deluxe which was perfect. And there were dolphins! Literally hundreds of spinner dolphins all over the place just offshore. What a treat. The kids were thrilled. The first thing the captain when he saw them was called all the kids up to the (trampoline) on the front so that they could see the dolphins underneath. The kids were so excited. It was amazing. The boat was spacious for the number of people we had on the tour. Maybe 30? Just a guess. There were lots of seats indoors and outdoors, and people tended to move around quite a bit. The staff were wonderful. They told us about the animals that we saw: spinner, dolphins, green sea turtles, and monk seals. There was also a photographer who took pictures of family groupings. They weren't cheap, $90, but she took so many of our family. It was totally worth it. They served lunch, snacks, and drinks. My only suggestion is that it might be worth a thought for them to eliminate the lunch entirely. There was nothing wrong with it. Pork sandwiches and salad were great, but I just don't see how it's necessary given that the tour left at 1:30. That seemed to keep the staff pretty busy and maybe needlessly? I don't know if it would be worth reducing the price by just a small amount and eliminating that because I'm not sure if it's that much of a draw. It was absolutely perfect. We all loved it! It sounded like a lot of work! However, he'd done his homework & cited multiple recommendations & we watched several of Captain Jon Jon's videos. "Count me in!" We met Capt'n Jon Jon & his sidekick Johan at a public launch near our rental home; split 1 adult, 1 grandson / guide & we were off to the races (so to speak). Not being at all acquainted with this type of fish or fishing, I was surprised that the first thing we needed to do was catch our own bait fish. Back home I'd have happily eaten what we used for bait (Opelu). We all had an absolute blast! Caught nice-sized African Pompano, Mahi-mahi, blue stripe snapper (if I remember correctly), grey snapper, some sort of eel & etc. Highly recommend Captain Jon Jon; we all hope to be back soon to avail ourselves of his expert service ... delivered with a 50 megawatt smile & constant stream of helpful tips, guidance & insights gained over a lifetime of world-class experience.

SCAM/FRAUD!!! STOLE $1050…read more We had gone back and forth for a few weeks figuring out dates for a fish trip. I was specific I wanted a kayak trip. He assured me that we would not only see bonefish but would also catch them. So finally after settling on a date, I booked and paid for a trip on Dec 21st through Zelle per his request to confirm trip on Dec 22nd. After I paid on 21st, I called Jon Jon to figure out the plan for the following day at which time he asked to switch the guide trip to Dec 24, which I agreed to. On the 23rd before the trip he told me when and where to meet on the 24th. The morning of the 24th he confirmed the time for that day then shortly later he changed the time to about an hour later. No problem for us. Then about 1.5hrs after that, before our trip, he texted and then called me that he had to cancel the trip because he said he was sick but assured me (in text and on phone) he would refund my money. Have called and texted numerous times but he's totally ghosting me - crickets. Filed fraud claims with my bank and will pursue all other legal options to protect others. After the trip, I happened to talked to other fishing locals and guides that I happened to run it on Maui and Kauai and they didn't have positive things to say about him. Interesting enough, shortly before my planned trip on Dec 22nd, his website went down. Could it be because he needs to reboot with a new company and change his name?

Super attentive, the food…read morewas abundant, the boat was very clean, and I felt safe out snorkeling even with a pretty big swell shift from the Hurricane. The details: Our tour started by meeting at tree at the Sheraton, which sounds awkward but for us was super convenient and it was fun boarding the sailboat from the beach but you will get a little wet! Captain Michael walks you though the day and then you are off for about ~90 minutes to Lanai. During that time you are served (not a buffet) two meals. The cinnamon rolls were great and the breakfast croissants are now something I make at home. There was also a photographer on board so we took advantage and took some family photos (you buy at the end and I found them a whole lot cheaper and less stress than an actual family shoot). Once you get to the Island you can take a golf cart or take a short walk to the beach where they have all the gear you need. After the safety briefing you have about 2 hours to snorkel with the crew serving as lifeguards in the water. It is VERY easy to lose where you are when you've got your head underwater. I appreciated how attentive the crew was to where the four of us were at since there were a few times we needed some gentle guidance out of a harms way (shoreline rocks). The photographer also captures your snorkel sesh. After snorkeling, you're treated to another full meal of noodles and chicken. Followed by anything you might need for a little seasickness to prep for the journey back . My 12 yo son was pretty full at this point and had befriended the captain who let him help get the boat ready for the return trip. That was very cool! The ride home was a bit bumpy (Hurricane Lowell was coming) but Captain Michael did a great job avoiding anything major and even found a pod of dolphins. We also enjoyed the mai tais! Great experience! We will book more tours in the future. I would have booked another snorkeling or sunset tour during this trip but the water quality really deteriorated with the upcoming storm.

Between the incredible crew, exceptional service, wonderful food, beautiful ocean views, and Maui sunset, this was the perfect way to end our time in Maui. We couldn't have asked for a better final evening on the island.
