Captain Jesse and Makana are solid guys who fish and understand the ocean, and we wished we would could have spent time longer with them but the weather unfortunately did not behave. Laura who was awesome with communicating updates leading up to the trip was professional, kind and gracious to work out a resolution due to the weather shortened trip. Jesse and John were amazing. We caught 4 fish ok 5 but one was barracuda. Two Ono and two big eye tuna . They cleaned the fish and portion it for us . I took it back and made sushi and pan fried the Ono . It was so delicious. The food provided during the day was delicious. This was life time trip for my family of 5 . Easily the BEST part of our trip to Maui. The awesome experience started before we even boarded the vessel. Laura was so kind and spent extra time helping me plan and feel confident we could do this trip with my family including two children (one of whom has extra needs). Everything was seamless the actual day of the tour. Jesse and John greeted us, they were some the nicest people we met on Maui. Very laid back, but also experts in their craft and extremely knowledgeable. They picked the absolute best spots for snorkeling, we saw a ton of fish and dozens of turtles. Jesse knows so much about the island and the environment that he seems personally acquainted with each fish (I wouldn't be surprised if he's named them by now). I feel that you could make your charter whatever kind of trip you want, but we appreciated them being guides and learning so much while aboard. They were hype men for my young son who gets pretty anxious, and he swam 3 different times because of their help and encouragement. Jesse went out of his way in the water to show my son all the things that captured his interest. We all felt safe the entire time, and as we got to know them we realized how experienced Jesse and John are and that we were in fact in great hands. There was also awesome food and drinks on board. They checked in with us constantly to make sure we were feeling good and doing well. All this, and Green Island were still the most affordable private charter out there. I really can't say enough about this company, and the people (Laura, Jesse, and John). We will 100% book with them again if we're ever lucky enough to be back in Maui. read more

Met up with Jesse and Joe on a Sunday morning for the absolute most perfect day on the water. My girlfriend, my Dog and two of our friends got to enjoy snorkeling at Molokini crater, attempted some fishing as we went ti different locations. We were able to see turtles and plenty of fish. They guys even provided water, soda, juice, beer and spiked seltzers. They were extremely knowledgeable about their trade and navigated the water with ease. What an awesome experience! The way a private charter should be enjoyed! We had a morning private charter for 4 people and my service dog, Stella. They accommodated all of us and we had a delicious light lunch and beverages on the boat. I was able to play my own music which is a big plus for me! Jesse was our captain and Joe was helping him out and they were both super friendly and knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. They really made the experience that much better. I usually get sea sickness and I was able to sit next to captain Jesse going to Molokini crater. Peace of mind pays no price. The boat is new, in great condition, and makes you feel so much safer being with a crew that fishes often and knows the sea. The location is perfect for people staying in Kihei. So much easier than going to maalea harbor which is 13 miles off the shore. The afternoons in Maui have major trade winds so ideally this harbor is better just because it's closer. Lol. Not to brag; but we truly had the best weather conditions today -- Glassy water, no afternoon wind, and sunny skies all throughout. We wish we had more time in Maui, but since we live on Oahu we'll definitely be back with more friends and family. 10/10 recommend over any other charter. Worth every penny. Thank you guys again! We recently booked a private fishing trip with Green Island Charters. We had a fantastic time fishing with Jesse and the crew. They were fun, friendly and very knowledgeable. We caught multiple different types of fish but the best part was my 3 year old son catching and reeling in his first fish! Seeing Maui from the water is a must! The views are beautiful, the boat was spacious and super clean. What an amazing day! Went out with just me and my boyfriend. We did some fishing and whale watching, and got to swim at molokini with just us! We ended our trip on the back side of molokini and caught a huge uku well half of one, a shark got the other half!! It was sucha great experience to be on a smaller boat and really get one on one time fishing. Would love to go out with a fun small group of friends. Highly recommend Green Island Charters for a great fishing excursion in Maui. Jesse & Matt took me out for a 5-hour trip on 11/18. Both Jesse and Matt are very knowledgeable and have great energy - they're both from Maui, born & raised. They both had great eyes to spot likely locations where fish were very active. They found us a massive breaking about an hour into the trip. We saw lots of large fish coming to the surface of the ocean. Unfortunately the tuna & marlin were so preoccupied with the feed they had, we could not get them to take interest in the lures. Jesse & Matt had great gear - excellent lures, great live bait, and a nice setup for trawling or bottom fishing. We started with trawling but after a couple hours in the break, we decided to switch to bottom feeding in another area where snapper like to hang out. Their boat is equipped with a transponder so we were able to find fish easily. We caught quite a few snapper, but found ourselves in a fight with sharks everytime we tried to bring the fish up. It was a terrific experience, despite no catches for the day. Jesse and Matt did a great job finding exactly what we needed to bring in a lot of fish, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. On this trip, I went solo, but I recommend trying to bring a slightly bigger crew -- having more lines in the water for bottom fishing, can help offset the shark battles. The boat is a great size, comfortable. And, they offered excellent refreshments and a great lunch option. This is a great business, and worth doing whether you're visiting or a local. Next time I'm in Maui, I will definitely take another trip out with them. read more

Took my wife and two daughters(17 and 11) out for a half day combo fishing and snorkeling trip. Matty and Chris were fantastic hosts putting a great day together. We were literally first out to Molokini beating the crowds. We pulled out of Molokini just as the first big charter showed up, we had the place to ourselves. That alone was worth the extra $$ to go private but it got even better. The weather was in our favor which allowed us to swing around to the backside. That was an unreal experience. After that, we spent the next two hours fishing pulling in enough for a fish taco dinner. The day was capped off by a last snorkel stop at a great turtle spot. You won't regret spending the little extra $$ going with Green Island to build out your personalized day. They were great with my family, had great food and coolers of drinks. My family (including 4 kids) had a great time on our fishing/snorkel trip with Jesse and Chris. Despite some unfavorable weather conditions, we were still able to catch some fish. They allowed us to decide how much time we wanted to fish vs. snorkel and when. We choose to snorkel in the middle of the trip to break it up and cool off. The snorkeling was amazing among sea turtles. They had quality snorkel equipment (better than the other snorkeling trip we had later in the week). Chris got in the water with me and the kids and explained which fish and sea urchins we were seeing. I was so grateful that he kept a close eye on the kids so I could enjoy the snorkeling experience as well. Jessie was very knowledgable about fishing. He also shared lots of history about the islands and culture. The lunches they provided were surprisingly tasty too. It was a great experience! read more
