Quality Italian dinners…read more I've been on an insane Italian dinner kick for the past six months or so. I seriously can't get enough. There's just something about ordering fancy Italian dinners and them arriving in flimsy, warped aluminum foil containers on your doorstep that just screams romance. After the Giavanna's debacle, I had set out to find a chicken marsala redemption story arc. Surely one of these so-called "old world Italian kitchens" could serve up a mouth-watering rendition of an all-time classic. Well, Sophia's came through. Chicken was pounded out, lightly floured, and shallow pan fried to perfection. I could be wrong about that whole process. That's how I'm just imagining how it went down in my head. The texture and moistness of the chicken reinforced my visualization of the process, but again, I may be wrong. That *is* the traditional way of prepping it, though. And these guys come off as traditionalists. Same thing goes for the chicken piccata. Super succulent chicken, a biting white win/lemon sauce with a generous inclusion of giant capers. Was definitely digging those capers. And people, if you're cooking chicken piccata at home, don't skimp on the capers. If you get those super XL capers, you can use a little less. If using the tiny ones, just throw a whole jar into the sauce pan. Capers are an explosion of flavor. Tiny little salt bombs. If you have high blood pressure, maybe tone it down. Otherwise, pour those little bad boys on. Awesome experience save for a few things. One, I ordered an Italian wrap and they sent me an Italian hoagie. And uh, actually that's about it when it comes to complaints. The Chef Salad was weak, sure. Just meat, onions, cheese, and lettuce. No tomato, no black olives. They threw in a couple slices of cucumber. But over tomatoes? Man, a salad needs tomatoes. It just freshens everything up. Actually, just checked the menu again. It was supposed to come with tomatoes and black olives. Guess they just forgot to include them. Sophie's does Italian entrees really well. Easily in my top-5 for pasta dishes. Really underrated establishment. If they can get their order accuracy up to snuff, Sophia's is going to be a staple in Reading for a long, long time.

Visited my mother and she offered to grab lunch. She said she has been wanting to try this…read morerestaurant so we went. Upon arrival, the place was empty, except for staff, so we were seated immediately. The interior is decorated with Mexican art and items while Mexican music plays in the background. Complimentary chips and salsa were served, which I ate most of. Our orders were taken and drinks quickly brought to the table. My mother ordered the Fajitas Norte Sur which included steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, peppers and onions with sides of guacamole, sour cream, pico de Gallo, rice and beans. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a picture of my mother's dish but the proteins arrived on a sizzling cast iron pan and the rest came on a second plate. I ordered the Carnitas Burrito which was served over a tomatillo sauce with a side of rice and beans. My mother ate all of the protein including the guacamole and I even commented to her that I didn't think she was going to be able to eat as much as she did (Good Job, Mom!). I ate everything on my plate and ended up consuming my mother's refried beans. Once the food was served I asked for "salsa picante" aka hot sauce. They offered a bottled version but I requested their house made version. My wish was granted and it had a good amount of heat...I used more of it than my mother because I LOVE spiciness. It was not what I have traditionally been used to. While it had good heat and earthiness, it was runny and not as condensed as I would've preferred. I almost finished all of the portion they brought though. I sat there trying to analyze their combinations of ingredients for that sauce and still don't have a concrete formula for what I thought it was and I didn't ask what it was comprised of either. My mother thought service was good, which I will not deny, but I will admit I was not offered a refill on my glass of water. I'm a stickler for that since I consume a lot of water. Either way she tipped them at 30ish%, and probably because she is paying forward to her nationality. Either way, I'd return. Even looking over the menu, I took extra time to make a choice as there were a few options that I wanted to try. I don't live nearby but maybe another time I visit my mother we can return.

Large pie w/ my version of Hawaiian (pepperoni-pineapple). Cheesy, good amt of toppings, even distribution, floppy crust, sweet sauce. Chicken Bacon Ranch Stuffed pizza, counter-style. They do more than just drizzle Ranch on top that melts off in the end. They spread it across top crust & send you home w/ a side. Chicken is chicken-steak, not actual chicken, but value is so good you have to make some concessions. Cubed tomato and sprinkles of crumbled bacon. Stromboli has heavier bottom, light airy top crust, filled w/ meat & cheese- quality of both not as good as some places but again, a tasty value. Ham is cubed not sliced (can spill out & be a little troublesome). Place is awkward to get to if coming from Douglasville direction. Specials like Lg pizza & Lg Stromboli for $35 is daily & can't be beat. Highly recommend for those cheat days!
