I stopped in Friday morning around 11am before work to grab a coffee. While looking over the menu, I noticed three female employees behind the counter. Although they saw me, none of them acknowledged me. I could hear them talking about guys and drinking in Spanish while I waited patiently, hoping someone would ask to take my order. After about five minutes with no greeting or assistance, I decided to leave and go to the next coffee shop. Customer service: -10/10. read more

Love that there is a high-quality affordable coffee chain in this city! There's a Matto close to where I work so I'm often finding myself here looking for a treat. Some of my favorite things on the menu are their banana date latte (a steal at $4 on the app), egg avocado croissant sandwich, cinnamon scone, and their matcha isn't half bad either. Definitely get the app - you get a discount and can order ahead - they're super speedy and usually have the order ready within a few minutes. I just wish there were more seating options inside the cafe itself. read more

Stopped here for a small bit and pick-me-up. Cold Brew is not too strong, appears it's made in house and is dispensed strait from the cold brewer. Had a chocolate chip cookie, they asked if I wanted it warmed up but I passed and wished I didn't. It was good flavor but the warm-up would have made it soft and chewy. read more

i love matcha and found out this place sells it, i was looking to try something new so i got strawberry matcha and it was great although i did have to add a small bit of sweetener but it was great. i also think this is a nyc brand so any area in nyc has a matto espresso cafe to try. read more

The matcha latte I had was delicious as was the banana loaf bread. But I'm taking away a star because the small latte was tiny, like child size, and I actually ordered the coffee cake, not banana. There were 4 people behind the counter, I was their only customer, but I still had to wait to be noticed. I think everyone was busy with mobile orders to pay me any attention? Blown away by this new coffee shop in the UES. All prices are SO reasonable - I paid $3.50 for a cold foam cappuccino with oat milk!!?! I periodically work in the area and frequently pass Matto during my commute. The name was somewhat familiar to me - I've never been to one of their locations, but I most likely have seen them floating around my Yelp feed over the years. Anyway, I was looking for some sustenance to get me through the day, so I decided to stop in and check out their offerings. Matto is a franchise with multiple locations around NYC. They are essentially a coffee bar that serves a variety of beverages, along with some baked goods and sandwiches. I wanted something quick, and their almond croissant was speaking to me so I went with that. It actually exceeded my expectations - it was just the right amount of sweet, and the almond paste they used for the filling was just enough without overpowering the pastry as a whole. It was a little messy since it was topped with powdered sugar, but that comes with the territory. Overall, I was impressed with Matto - they serve a good almond croissant, and it has motivated me to check them out again in the future. I heard they serve good coffee at a reasonable price, so that's definitely on the agenda during my next visit. read more

Matto Espresso at 359 East 68th Street is very efficient. They have a steady stream of customers. There's a counter with stools inside where I ate my Cheese Boureka. There's seating outside but it's in the sun. My boureka was so greasy and absolutely delicious! Only $2.73! I felt welcome here and comfortable at the counter. The employees are friendly and efficient. Paying cash makes it quick. I like this location. I recommend you visit if you are nearby! read more

I LOVE Matto! For so many reasons, it has become a great work from home breakfast spot. Conveniently located on 68th Street, across from MSK, it is close to all major healthcare facilities and a cute park with playground a few steps over. The cafe is a small takeout location with great treats, gluten free options and fresh made breakfast sandwiches. Coffees and drinks are made to order in addition to their baked goods and fridge with prepacked snacks and drinks. Everything here is $2.50, so the scoffing after being rung up for an $8 coffee wont happen here. read more

I just got out of surgery and wanted a coffee & muffin (hadn't eaten in over 20 hours). I found them on my phone and scurried over. The young lady didn't tell me but she was closing. She gave me a wonderful latte & a pistachio muffin & cinnamon scone. I paid and was SO happy. The stores are always clean. (I've been to other locations also). The staff are always nice. Great place to hit as you're going through Manhattan. read more

This place was my saving grace ever since I started my new job in the area. Everything around this neighborhood is super expensive so I'm happy to see I can still get delicious coffee and snacks without going broke. As someone whose picky with their coffee, I love their products and it's a lot tastier and better quality than Starbucks and Dunkin in my opinion. My favorites are the caramel iced latte, banana date latte and their vegetarian sausage sandwich. Tried this place for the first time today and I'm obsessed now! First of all they're extremely affordable without having to compromise quality ! I got the iced cappuccino with cold foam and it was not even $4! This was better than any iced drink i get somewhere else and more than half the price of what i get it elsewhere. I also got a chocolate chip cookie and it was chewy and delicious going to come back for sure. Customer service was also great the woman in the front was very kind and friendly read more

The delivery arrived missing the croissant and they never contacted me, also never refund me even after I wrote to them about it.

Everything is $2.50. Yes, even your iced oatmilk mocha. Yes, even the croissant-and-omelet sandwich. It's takeout only, but there are a couple of outdoor tables on the sidewalk. The barista is lovely. The espresso drinks are smooth. The hot cocoa seems like it's cream-based -- it's ultra rich even with a shot of espresso added (yes, still $2.50!). Pro tip: bring it home and spike it for an indulgent adult beverage. read more

I'm always craving for something (usually something sweet), but I never know exactly what I want, so having Matto in the neighborhood is fantastic for me! They always have sweets and pastries on the right side of the glass. I'm guessing their sweet staples are brownies, cookies, and muffins. They have other things on certain days. There were two choices of croissants today! Butter (classic) croissants and almond croissants. I opted for an almond croissant because I needed something sweet in my blood! I quickly took a bite out of it and thought it wasn't the best. They have better things. But the more the ate, I discovered they had a sweet almond paste in the middle that was absolutely delicious! it had the right amount of sweetness and nuttiness to it. The pastry part is flakey, but also a tad chewy. It might've tasted better if it was warm. I also left home without anything to drink today, so I needed something. Anything! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find anything I wanted there (besides their coffee selection, juices, and sparkling water), but to my surprise, they also have lattes and tea! Between the chai latte and matcha latte, I ordered the matcha latte, and it was a great option. It is on the sweeter side, but I'm not complaining! I don't normally have sweets, so this was my treat to myself. It's sweet and had a good amount of matcha to it: not too overwhelming and not too subtle. I'll have to check out their savory options the next time I visit! read more

Not being able to go out and about going through my phone looking for places I been too but not reviewed and there are lots and lots. Matto has this crazy deal you can get a good large cup of coffee and something to eat at $2 each. Even the cappuccino, machiatos too abet a small cup only. the cakes, cookies, croissants are fresh and taste good. Many other vendors charge more for the same thing. I never have gone wrong going to Mattos yet and I look forward to going back to them again. I think there are 11 Mattos Espresso in Manhattan and I been to 8 and this is my 6th review. like many businesses in the metro area they are temporarily closed. read more

I came here to get a quick iced latte and quick is an understatement here. She had the drink ready in literally 15 seconds and she poured the coffee from a carafe. Never saw her pull an espresso shot. I would have let it go if the drink ended up tasting good. After all I just needed my caffeine. Don't know what kind of oatmilk was used but it did not taste right. I tried to let it go and just drink it was it wasn't good at all. I ended up throwing it out and getting an iced latte with oat milk down the street from The Greats of Craft, which did taste like how a latte should taste. Probably because it was made with an actual espresso shot. SMH. I really wanted to like this place. read more

Cheaper coffee, but quite watered down. I can see the appeal for college students but the espresso tasted overwhelmingly like milk

I come here every day to pick up coffee and snacks! Some of my favorite items: Iced caramel latte Mango smoothie Green smoothie (tastes so much better than it looks- really sweet!) Green omelette Protein total (eggs from the fridge) Almondy (best cake ever!) Triple brownie Their regular brownie tastes a bit weird so I tend to avoid that. If you're a regular, be sure to pick up one of their loyalty cards so every time you refill $20 you get a free coffee! read more

This place is a great find. The mocha was fantastic - although I think they were out of what they normally make it out of so it was made out of a chocolate sauce - still great! The almond croissant wasn't that great but it also wasn't any different than any other place where you would pay double for it. The chocolate chip cookie I wouldn't recommend, tasted like maybe it was made from frozen, similar to those from subway. read more

Can't get enough of this place. Everything for two dollars?! That's just insane. And for its location, right next to an enormous hospital, for them to be selling everything for two dollars is madness. My favorite things are: The almondy: hazelnut spread on top of a very moist cake with a crunchy substance sprinkled on top. Can get messy eating it, beware Almond croissant: incredibly soft on the inside, doesn't even have the flakiness of a croissant on the inside. I can't describe it perfectly but it's somewhat cakey inside and I love it! The sugar and almonds on the outside are so sweet. Whole thing is delish. The only thing I didn't like was their beverage selection. Really healthy, note many sweet options like juice lol read more

Staff was very friendly and there is outdoor seating available. I got an oat cortado based on the size of the cup (cappuccino seemed too big) but the cup was 1/3 filled so it was actually a macchiato and not a cortado, which I didn't like. The coffee itself was not good either. Super cheap (around $ 2.75) so it didn't feel like it was a waste of money even though I didn't drink my coffee. I won't return. Cash-only below $ 4. read more

All items for $2 signage caught my attention so I decided to try this spot out. Also saw the advertisement outside - download the app and get $5 - which I did. Got a couple of things from the place - blueberry muffin and a focaccia. The server asked if I wanted the focaccia heated up which I said yes please! Both were nice and affordable at $2 each. I was however mildly annoyed when I went to pay for it, I could not use the $5 intro offer. I was told it was only for online pick up orders which was not mentioned on the sign at all. I couldn't be bothered arguing for the sake of $4.36 so ended up paying normally. Other than that it's not a bad place. Just wished they would have been clearer on their offering. read more

This cafe made me so happy in this dark age of 2020. What a counter cultural cafe in the UES. Opening during rampant COVID, yet it's a cafe for the people. $2.5 lattes just can't be beat. No matter how bad everything else, that justifies everything. But that's NOT even the case. The barista is the sweetest, most approachable, non-pressuring, generous one you'll ever meet especially on the UES. I want to be her friend. The pastries also look generous, with the variety as well as sizes! The savory ones look very interesting and definitely need to try those. The outdoor seating is plenty and cute, and it's a great place to do work. I got an iced chai almond milk latte and it still blows my mind it's $2.5. It was delicious too, to boot! Matte will have my business every single time I'm in the UES. read more

This is really a grab-and-go kinda cafe, with almost no seating, except for 2 high chairs by the wall. Everything is always $2. They have half sandwiches (which they can heat up for you), pastries, coffee (small or large, either size is also same price), and cold drinks. This is my go-to place when I'm at school, craving a cheap and moderately filling meal. Usually just 2 of their half sandwiches can be filling enough. I like that it's cheap and quick, but their foods can be hit or miss for me. The spinach lasagna is a tad bland, while their feta cheese lasagna hits the spot. Always a favorite, especially when toasted and eaten hot. I also really love their pistachio walnut muffins! I don't eat muffins too often, but I had to try pistachio when I first saw it. Was not disappointed as the flavor was spot on. You can smell the pistachio, taste the pistachio, and you can most definitely tell it, from the vibrant green color. A must try if you ever stop by. Also, if you get and add $20 to your Matto card, you get a free cup of coffee. read more

Great place to grab a nice espresso or a cappuccino, and a couple pastries. Everything is well made and each item - no matter what - will only cost you 2$. You think I'm messing with you? Well, I'm not: whether you'd like a croissant, a slice of cake, a brownie, or a feta lasagna, each item you select will have the same price. The quality is honestly pretty good, and their latte is pretty yummy too - I also appreciate that they have a few different locations so you can pick the one closest to you! Definitely a place you need to be on the lookout for, even if just for a something quick to recharge from A walk around the city! Will definitely be back for more! read more

This place is giving its neighbors (Padoca, Greg's Coffee, Starbucks etc.) some serious competition! Their baked good are heavenly. There are so many to choose from, and they are all $2 each so picking a dessert to go with your coffee is a serious exercise in restraint. (Sorry Padoca but your snacks are too $$$) The staff are pretty friendly and although this place doesn't really have seating, it's perfect if you want a midday break to pick up a coffee and dessert. I've been here enough times to know this place isn't always consistent. The first time I went was great. The server from Kazakhstan was phenomenal and friendly. And my drink was tasty. And other times your croissant tastes stale. Or the cold brew tastes old. Or you get served by a man with poor fingernail hygiene who didn't wear gloves. Or, like today, you get served by a snarky woman who messes up your iced red eye and has the audacity to tell me I can order through the app (I did, just finished in store), just because she put in milk without being asked. I didn't even react to her mistake or even the passive aggression because I was too tired, but honestly who needs that before her morning coffee...or ever? I don't know why I've been living in the are almost a year and not given this place a decent chance. I think the lack of seating kept me away as I am a sucker for cute cafes. However, I'm starting to realize this place gives me major Italy nostalgia in a time when traveling there is off limits. The cappuccinos are as close to a Rome bar as you can get in Manhattan-- have any other italy-lovers realized you can't get a decent Italian style espresso drink in the city? The pastries aren't Italian in the slightest but they're enough to keep my stomach satisfied at work and being that they're only 2 bucks, I always end up indulging. The iced coffee is pleasantly strong and gives me a pep in my step for work each day. I can see how in the summer grabbing a Capp to go and sitting in st Catherine's park could help soothe my Rome-sickness. And best of all, the service is always quick and super super friendly.
