Buyer beware, bought a Mercedes for a price a thought w as a steal... would've been nice for them to say "mechanics special"... they didn't bother to even change the oil in the car along with a a list of issues discovered after 2 weeks with the car from the manufacturer dealership. Service manager refuted saying what the Benz dealership told me was all lies. The car had issues at purchase that they did fix like trunk release and window controls from the door panel and rear seat controls and tires with the print from the dealership but they refused to fix suspension issues, brakes, a bad battery, all discovered 2 weeks from purchase, not for a discount, or with the useless warranty they gave me for the car. My fiancé and I have been looking for a truck for him and called Matthew's Motors beforehand to see if there were any dents, scratches, or rust on the truck prior to arriving. We initially spoke with a woman who was very kind and was able to work with us. This was due to us being over an hour from there. They send over a video, highlighting some minor scratches and dings. This wasn't an issue as any used vehicle is liable to have some scratches. Upon arrival, we go to take a look at the truck and see that the right front panel of the truck is not only dented but seems to have been "fixed" and "painted" with a color that did not color match. There also appeared to have been some rust on the frame that was painted over with spray painted with CHROME. Not even the color of the truck which was silver. This was incredibly disappointing. We bought a 2019 blazer from them not even a year ago. We originally made an appointment to see another car there, which we called to confirm was still there only to be told when we arrived (after an hour drive) that we couldn't buy it, it was going to auction due to engine issues (red flag right there). We needed a car badly, so we settled for the blazer. It has been the biggest hassle. Always something wrong with it. Stutters and skips, but can't be worked on because "no check engine light is on". We were also told the great news at paperwork signing that if the car ever needed work, Matthew's motors provides a rental car. That has never been honored. I'm going on my 2nd service for this car. We were told by Miguel (who is absolutely awful at his service advisor title) that we should just go to enterprise to rent a vehicle. Not to mention the last service trip we experienced we were told for two days the car needed a new battery.. not the case. Ended up being the AC compressor. Everyone from the sales guy, down to management is far from competent or pleasing to work with. Phone calls not being returned, just a big hassle. STAY FAR AWAY. read more

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had!! They boast about their "unlimited powertrain warranty" that you get included with your purchase but here we are less than 2yrs later with a car with a seized motor and the warranty denying our claim saying we didn't keep up the maintenance! We did our oil changes on time and were never made aware of any additional requirements of us. Less than 2yrs, not even 30k miles put on the vehicle and now we have to pay $400mo for another 3yrs on a car we can't drive! And they're quoting over $7k to replace the motor!!! We requested copies of the signed documents and it took over a week to get page 1 of 4 that shows no requirements of us!! I can't even get a damn manager on the phone bc service is saying he hasn't been to this location in weeks!! Buyer beware. If you are buying or trading, go elsewhere, to a reputable dealership. Matthews Motors uses deceptive sales practices to bait the buyer then low ball and claim your trade is worthless. I responded to a call/text that they wanted to buy my vehicle. We talked honestly about the car with Matthews employee, Chase, and sent pictures of our trade and then texted with him most of the day. After looking at the VIN , mileage, and PHOTOS of my car, Chase said my trade value was $11K. We were interested in a specific car from their website that he said was available. After spending all that time talking to him we drove to the lot where he let us test drive the car we were interested in. When we got back from the test drive, another employee came out, took the keys, and literally ran off laughing saying "I sold it!" They had sold the vehicle that we inquired about two hours earlier to someone who had just shown up at the lot. To top it off, my 11K trade value was suddenly reduced to 6K. Extremely misleading, dishonest, and deceptive. Chase then kept claiming it was not him, but his manager that was making him say that. Seriously? That is the oldest line in the book. Deceptive and bait switching practices. They will say anything to get you on the lot, then low ball you and leave you hanging. Don't waist your time with this roadside swindler of a dealership. But since I applied for financing, the manager forced my family to go through with the sale while I was in the hospital. The car was overpriced and I hated it. Very deceptive. Sold us a jeep that they either didn't check before putting on the lot or they just didn't care. They reset the lights for the ABS system and they came on the next day. We called and called and left messages..finally took the jeep up there to get the tag they never told us was there. I made an appointment for service to fix whatever was causing the ABS lights to come on and because the key fob looked like it had been chewed on and never locked or unlocked the doors. They wouldn't have another key made by they dud NOT tell us about the one we got. We bought this at night and alot was not shown it was really pushed. Now we are told that the jeep needs $4800 worth of work done that the extended warranty they talked us into buying does not cover. Not to mention we have to buy a key fob out of pocket. I will not recommend them ever . Do not go here to even buy a bicycle. They lie just to make a deal but this will not keep customers coming back or get recommendations. We had that jeep a day when all this started. There's no way the brakes, rear axle, ABS light, traction control light, cruise control, key fob, oil leak, bad emergency brake pads, bad rotors and whatever else they didn't tell us about happened in 1 day. I was contacted by Matthew Motors - Claton, NC. Via Sam's Club Car buying service for a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The lady I spoke with on the phone was pleasant and helpful, and I told her that I was coming to purchase the car with my son for his 16th birthday and had financing through Usaa and insurance ready. I also let her know that we live in Chesapeake, so it would be a three-hour trip. She said no worries and that they would accommodate the time, even if it were at the end of the day. I said perfect and asked for information and pricing on the extended warranty and road hazard program to ensure I had all the funds lined up. She said no problem. A short time later, while on the road, I received a call from a salesman named Will, who seemed pleasant and professional and asked If I had any questions. I gave him the rundown and asked about the email with the details related to the Extended Warranty Program and road Hazard program. He said that that is usually handled by finance, so I asked If he could have one of them email me with the information, and he said ok. A few minutes later, I had a text from a different number with the car's online listing but no Extended Warranty details. I then get a text from a new number saying and I quote, "Hey Anthony, Will from Matthews Motors. Just texted you over all the info for the GIULIA on your cell. This vehicle does come with our lifetime powertrain warranty. That means that all of your engine components, driveshaft components, and transmission are covered for life! The finance guys will talk about bumper to bumper when you get here!" That was at least helpful, so I shelved the conversation regarding the extended Warranty and road hazard coverage until I arrived.   About 30 minutes later, I got a text from Will stating that it was his personal number. He asked me to send pictures of my driver's license, loan approval, and address to his cell because of the company phone I was receiving texts from would not receive photographs. I was a bit wary at that moment, so I texted the other number that I had earlier and said that I'd been texted and called from so many numbers and I'm driving, so can you please send me a company email to where I can send my documents? Next, I received a text back from Will with a personal email address. I responded with I'm sorry for the confusion, but can you please send a Matthews Motors company email address so I can attach everything and send it over?     I received a text back on the same number from Keith M***** (Sales Manager) with an email address that also appears to be a personal email address. Still, he stated that he was putting the paperwork together and asked me for my address so he could have everything printed out and ready. I said thanks and sent it over. Shortly after (about 1.5 hours into the trip), I got a call back from Will, who was sorry to tell me that his boss said the car would no longer qualify for the MATTHEWS MOTORS POWERTRAIN LIFETIME WARRANTY. The famously advertised warranty is explained below and taken directly from the Matthew Motors Company Website. "We want all of our customers to have the assurance that they purchased a used car that is dependable and will last for many many years to come. If the used car you purchase is five years or newer, and under eighty thousand miles, Matthews Motors will guarantee your engine and transmission for as long as you own the vehicle! Simply maintain a record of regular maintenance, and your used car is covered anywhere in the country." I then asked if the cost of the lifetime warranty would be taken out of the cost structure of the car, and Will stated it was possible and that there was room to negotiate, so we continued to the dealership.  With fifteen minutes to go, I got a call from Will, and this time, he was sad to tell me that another customer had come in and they sold it to them because I wasn't in the system. I then hung up, as I was pretty angry. Really I wasn't in the system? I had an appointment, was texting multiple associates, spoke with two associates, and the sales manager was printing everything out! To my surprise, I then got a text from Will saying that he apologized and that it was out of his control, but I was in luck. There was another Alfa Romeo Giulia on the lot that was only $3500 more than the one I wanted, and he was checking to see if I was still looking to come in and check out my options. I said no thanks; I'll leave my thoughts in the review as this was ridiculous. If this is the Matthews Motors Difference, they need to make serious revisions. This experience was not only unprofessional, but I felt they were being deceptive and trying to use the classic bait-and-switch tactic - which would be an FTC Act violation. Called the dealership to ensure car was there since we were driving 3 HOURS to buy it for our sons 16th birthday. Even told them we were on the way and how long our drive was AND why we were purchasing. These clowns called us when we were less than 15 minutes out to tell us they just Effin sold it! Sales person lied and I had to fight with the finance manager and demand promises in writing So glad I did since I have been lied to ever since. I inquired on a vehicle on Saturday and received a call on Monday at 9 am from the online scheduling clerk. The dealer is 40 minutes away, so I set up a 12 pm meeting time at the dealership. A confirmation text was sent to me, and then another text from "Brian" with a video message confirming my 12 pm appointment. All sounded pretty good and I appreciated the follow-up. When I got to the dealership, I had to hunt for a place to park. I went to the reception desk and told someone passing by that I had an appointment with Brian. Brian was paged. Brian did not respond. Ten minutes later, the receptionist returned to her desk and asked me who I was wanting to see. I informed her I had an appointment with Brian. She paged Brian again. No one could find Brian. After 20 minutes, another sales agent asked if he could help me while they tried to find Brian. I gave them my license and told them the vehicle I wanted to see. Like Brian, they could not find the vehicle. Brian and the vehicle were missing. After waiting for 40 minutes, neither Brian nor the vehicle were located. The sales agent apologized and said that he could only find the spare key, not the main key or vehicle... nor Brian. He thought the vehicle was probably sold on Saturday, but he wasn't sure. I guess the new owners did not need the spare key, but where was Brian? Amazingly, the next day I received an email from Brian thanking me for meeting with him, and he looked forward to answering any other questions I may have. WTF Brian? I would not use this dealership. If they can't find their salesman and vehicles after they schedule an appointment with you, what happens after you buy a car from them and you really need service on your vehicle? Over the years, I have bought, sold and traded many cars (I'm a car guy :) so I trade pretty often). I have to say, these guys were the best to work with. They made the process easy, they were efficient and did everything they said they would do. Car dealers often get a bad reputation for not doing just that. There's a lot of 5 star reviews of this place and I wish I could've had the same experience. Me and my father went in to buy a car and in the process we traded in a car. They ran a scan through it only saw it had a misfire and still accepted the trade in the without fully inspecting it and let me buy a new car off their lot. Fast forward 3 days later they tell me the cars gonna need a new engine it turns out so they want me to either pay them for the new engine or bring back the car we bought from them. I have never ever heard of a dealer doing that. When I told them no because that didn't seem right they threatened us with committing a straw purchase. Next day they call me saying the bank can't fund the deal anymore and I have 24 hours to bring back the car or they're reporting it stolen. The bank never canceled the deal the dealer called them to cancel it. Get your trade ins inspected before you take it to them or go somewhere else because if not you'll end up in the same situation as me. read more

They made an appointment to go to the dealership to get it fixed and they promised they would pay however much it would cost. I would text lewis and he would answer back saying "yea let me talk to somebody blah blah blah" and then I'd never hear anything back. This review will specifically address the woman at the front desk in the service department. We purchased a van from here in 2018 (with an extended warranty). We had an issue with a major oil leak coming from the top of the engine, so we took it to Matthews Motors to have it checked out. This woman was supposed to call the warranty company to check if the repair would be covered. Several days went by with no response. We finally reached out again and she told us the repair wouldn't be covered. We called the warranty company directly and they told us that Matthews Motors had never called them or filed a claim. Interesting. They also told us that the repair WAS in fact covered under our warranty. (We had the repair done at a different repair shop). So, please avoid this place at all costs. They apparently like to hire lazy, lying employees who don't want to do their jobs. ***Also, to make matters worse, once we found out about their lying employee, we called and told them about it. They were supposed to 'look into it' and get back to us. They never called back. read more

I called Matthews Friday morning for help with my car. I am single and always worry when dealing with car issues. I was relieved when a female answered the phone but she was not really helpful but said she would call her manger and call me back in 20 minutes. She did not call me back so at least an hour later I called and got another female on the phone. She told me an entirely different story and immediately upon hanging up the first person I spoke to called and told me her manger wasn't available. I have an extended warranty on my car but they would not answer whether or not they would accept it but wanted me to pay for the diagnostics up front even though it is covered under my warranty if the warranty company accepts the repairs. I had to drive my car to Smithfield to get help. I was even more disappointed that the women on the phone were not more helpful to a female calling for help. Talked with Alexi. Spoke on phone 2 times, emailed and texted several times. He had me drive an hour and a half to get my vehicle evaluated to trade. He told me the truck that I wanted was being inspected earlier. Told me when I was about to leave home that it was being detailed. After driving a hour and a half I find out it's damaged and being repaired. When I get here a different person tells me about the damage to the grill and door after showing me a car fax and tells me that there's no damage. He says he does t know why Alexi didn't tell me about damages. Very deceptive. UPDATE: They brought the truck to me after repairs. Their body shop painted the hood while it was on the truck. Didn't tape fenders which now have overspray. They did all of the repairs, primer, paint and clear the same day. They pulled the tape off while it was wet and pulled it across the front which caused scratches across half of the front. Paint on hood has trash in it. A female friend of mine, who has a heavy African accent, went to Matthews Motors for an oil change. She was told that she had four bad tires that needed replacement. The service personnel told her that thread was showing on the inside of all her tires, and she was at risk for a blowout on the highway. She was also told that her car would not pass inspection. I don't know why that was an issue, her inspection is not due for another 6 months. Her car was taken to TR Lee on Main St. They indicated her tires were in great condition and did not need to be replaced. I called Matthews Motors and asked to speak to the service manager. He was not available. I shared my concern with the lady who answered the phone. Without investigating or asking any service person what happened.
