He was very easy to make conversation with, so it wouldn't be awkward. We watched 2 short videos focusing on parking that were very helpful. We spoke to Mark on the phone. I was clear with him that I needed to take the day off a military assignment to get my wife to the appointment. We showed up on time and they schedule someone else instead. We drove 1.5 hours here from Jamul and even had child care taken care of. When talking to Mark he wouldn't solve the problem. I gave him a solution but wanted to talk over me and do it on his own terms. He told me the childcare was my problem and not his. By far the poorest experience I've had in the United States of America. They don't care about military members and that they're about to go on a deployment. I originally bought a Groupon deal. I called shortly after to schedule an appointment. I spoke to Mark. He explained to me all the fine detail that I bypassed. Recommended getting a Groupon refund, and giving me a better rate ( spring deal). He was very informative, friendly, patient, and professional on the phone. Most businesses will just take your money. He saved me money and helped me out. Being a single mama , living in SD , finding deals and businesses who help you are few and far between. Gil was the driver who took my daughter driving. We had to reschedule due to weather, and he was able to get me in last minute/day of rescheduling. Did not see the earlier Yelp reviews and glad I am adding this review. We could not be more pleased, with our experience with the Matt Driving School! We did buy the Groupon for our daughter and upon further review, we would have likely paid the same total, by transacting with the school directly. The Groupon+ confusion seemingly the reasons for the negative reviews. Do the math, if comparing to other schools and you should find good/fair value here. Scheduling the lessons allowed for flexibility and communicating with Mark, in doing so, just super. My daughter, loved her instructor (Gilbert) and best of all, having completed the course and lessons, now confident and prepared to take her Driver's exam. This is our last of 4 kids, getting their drivers license, here in CA and all with Driver Training (AAA, etc.) and wish we would have found this school and these good folks, for the earlier ones. read more

I am not sure where these prior reviews came from but our experience and expectations were professional, affordable and on time. The instructor was on time very professional , my son learned a lot of pointers we couldn't teach him , and he got his hours done even though we are under a pandemic. They worked around his school zoom schedule and my son is on his way to DMV to get his road rest and be licensed finally. BUYER BEWARE In addition to all the extra fees listed on the website, this driving school charges an additional $250 for the "insurance" they need to cover the six hours your learner is in their car, regardless if you already have them covered on your own insurance. There is NO mention of this on their website. I purchased a Groupon that had an alleged "value" of $360 after reading all the fine print and scouring their website for whatever additional fees there may be. An additional $110 for the certificate was listed under their "extra fees," but no mention of the $250 anywhere. When it was brought to their attention, they acknowledged the omission but did not do anything about it. It's one thing to charge $730+ when other schools in the area charge only $300-600, if you think the service you provide is out of this world, but to be called out on your failure to fully inform buyers of your fees and refuse to do anything about it is not only horrible customer service, it reflects dishonest business practices (which I discovered this company has a reputation for). I wouldn't trust to put my kid in the car of a company like that. It's interesting (and highly suspicious) how five-star ratings suddenly pop up after a negative review is posted. Mark is really a great guy. He went out of his way to help my son on a last minute basis. He was informative, kind , and a great teacher. Taught my son how to parallel park and park on uphill/downhill. He also gave him insight on passing the drivers test, such as alway put ebrake on when car is in park. I also found out after the fact of buying the groupon that there would be an additional fee of $120 if you actually want the completion certificate, which is the whole point of doing this. It's the same as buying a car for a great price and later being told if you want the steering wheel, then that's extra which ends up being more expensive then everywhere else. I just find it to be dishonest and I shared that with them via email and here is the response I got back! So you decide if this is a company you want to do business with. If this is how they treat customers, imagine how your child will be treated with their drivers. I wouldn't risk it. Response: "M.A.T.T is Motorcycle, Auto, Truck Training. And I am a female, so this is NOT Matt. Usually we ignore the ignorant and move on, but it seemed like you were asking to be schooled today. Questioning conducting my business is the same is if "I" asked you that your love one is worth only $155 to you, or your are just a cheap guy? Why not pay the full price so that way if you don't understand a product or a service (in its entirety) one can get paid enough to "decode" it for you. Again, you did not slow down to see what MATT was, you just assumed that I was guy too. We all know what happens when we assume. We offer the Groupon for a service that would be the same if you purchased it from us online with a discount. Let me "decode" it for you. If you paid $360 for our 6 hours you still have to pay the $120 for the certificate! There is no hostage, just "those" who don't understand the term "refund". You don't like the deal get your refund and move on! By the way it happens billions of transactions each day all around you. Speaking of damage. in our society supply and demand roles, you don't care where it comes from when it is cheap and marketed right, you buy it. I was explained everything very detailed over the phone and they where flexible with my schedule and got me scheduled for my class within 2 days I was doing my first lesson. read more

This place offers a Groupon for a discount. You think. But this is not the case. They say they are in Riverside but you not only have to drive busy traffic to get to Moreno Valley(at lease 30 minutes away), but have to pay a certificate fee of $120. So the Groupon for $155 plus $120. That's no discount. It's now $275 plus 6 hours of driving and another few hours of you driving your kid to them in the next city. No thanks. The add says extra fee for certificate, but the cost is not disclosed and then after you buy it, it's $120 more. My older boys went through another company, and for $235, they will come to your house and pick the kid up! The Groupon is a deceptive. We went to the Riverside office, all it is is a cubicle in a business center with a desk and some business cards. Nothing else, nobody else. Total SCAM!! It's too bad that there is not an option to give ZERO stars. We purchased a groupon for online drivers ed last week. We did everything we were supposed to do on our end. They informed us via text that we would have to wait a week before they could activate our account due to "maintenance". We tried to login on the date they told us our account would be activated and we still were not able to get in. All of the contact between us and them is via text. You never "talk" to anyone. I texted the # that I had for them and informed them of my issue and they were so very rude. I called my credit card company and canceled the transaction. My 18 year old is taking his DMV test in a couple of weeks so we called a few driving schools in the area to help fine tune his skills. Matt's called me back promptly and they were very accommodating. My son said the instructor was friendly and gave him some good tips. Their instructors are really nice and friendly, but not so much the guy running the operation - his name is Matt. All it took was a minor misunderstanding for him to have a meltdown and then scream at me on the phone, he went as far as accusing me of thinking too highly of myself because of my doctorate degree .. LOL. Kid you not, this is the FIRST time someone has accused me of something like that, he got issues and I don't say this lightly. I moved on to another driving school, got my license, and am actually still very good friends with the folks guy there. A word of advice if I may - stay away ! I am so impressed with how well she is driving, and she credits it all to this school. After only one class I already feel very safe in the car, with her behind the wheel. Poor customer service. Mark, the person you have to deal with, has the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with. He pretends to be kind and calming, but what he really is doing is belittling you. He does not return emails in a timely manner and then when you correct him, he again, tries to seem as if he is calming you down. He tried to charge me an extra $20 for rescheduling an appointment we did not confirm. And when I brought this to his attention, his belittle voice came out and when I asked him to stop doing that, he hung up on me. My daughter had taken 4 driving lessons at Matt driving school. The instructor has been 15+ minutes late twice. My daughter told me that the instructor was on her phone most of the time and gave her little instruction. On her second lesson the lady left her and another student alone in the Costco parking lot for 20 minutes so she could get a sandwich to eat during instruction time. On her third lesson the woman also left the car to pick up and eat Luna grill. If you want to get the most for your money, I would not recommend Matt Driving School. read more

Shitty customer service!! Asked a question about what I'm paying for get the 3rd degree like I don't have a right to ask and guy hangs up on me. But only before he tells me I can't pay if I'm not dropping my kid off because they need to see payment and ID. Truly- this place is schmarmy! They offer a Groupon- but NOT included is a $120 certificate fee. Groupon listed there was a fee but not the amount. Truly the fee was almost as expensive as the lessons. Once paid, they are very difficult to get hold of to schedule- since they do not ever answer phones but want you to leave a voicemail so they can call you back when it is convenient for them. TERRIBLE SERVICE! Matt Driving school has terrible customer service. I spoke on the phone to Mark who I believe is running this "business." There had been a mix up on our end about an emailing confirmation but Mark was not helpful about the situation at all. He then began to yell at me through the phone and then continued to belittle me as a customer and also someone who works retail. He kept referring to himself as the "Ceiling" that no one is higher than him, and after a long conversation with him he ended up having a breakdown, raised his voice even more, then hung up like a 16 year old who does not know a THING about customer service or professionalism. I do not know of any owner who would hang up on a customer through the phone when all we wanted was some help to clear up some confusion with their policies. For someone who is running a form of service like this you would expect someone who can be helpful when you are confused, but with this driving school it is not the case. They will debate with you about other policies and belittle other companies to make them seem better. For the amount of money we were spending for this school a little courtesy from the owner Mark would have been nice. Still in shock of our customer service here. The service here was unlike I have ever seen before. Word of advice is to stay away from this driving school. I would give him negative stars if possible. read more

ZERO STARS! Do not use! Awful system and unhelpful, incompetent staff. First, their system did not save my child's test results so he had to take the exam again. It didn't take much time so not a huge deal but the certificate came a week later with the wrong birthdate! When I emailed them a screenshot of the profile with the correct birthday, they tried to tell me they don't enter in data so it must be my error but they would reissue it. A week went by and I called to follow up and was told it was mailed but they don't track when so can't tell me when it'll arrive. Several days later we did get a second certification in the mail, with the WRONG BIRTHDAY AGAIN! This one different than the first but still not correct. And the postmark was from the second time they called so I know they never did it the first time. The staff member told me my bad experience meant nothing to them, they're too busy so a negative review won't hurt them. Now that we are a month passed when my son should have gotten his permit, we paid for another program and completed their process and received a correct certificate within a few days. Our two sons have benefitted from their six hours with Matt Driving School. The instructors eased them into freeway, downtown, Coronado Bridge, heavy traffic, etc. and shared with us what the boys needed to work on after each session.
