We have had three kids use Matt's and could not be more pleased. Communicative, reasonable and accommodating. All 3 felt safe, comfortable and increased driving skills after each session. read more

I took 3 classes with Gilbert to prepare for my license test. He was very patient, understanding, and informative. I always felt comfortable driving with him. He was very easy to make conversation with, so it wouldn't be awkward. We watched 2 short videos focusing on parking that were very helpful. They communicate very well and respond quickly to make appointments. I definitely recommend taking him. read more

I originally bought a Groupon deal. I called shortly after to schedule an appointment. I spoke to Mark. He explained to me all the fine detail that I bypassed. Recommended getting a Groupon refund, and giving me a better rate ( spring deal). He was very informative, friendly, patient, and professional on the phone. Most businesses will just take your money. He saved me money and helped me out. Being a single mama , living in SD , finding deals and businesses who help you are few and far between. Gil was the driver who took my daughter driving. We had to reschedule due to weather, and he was able to get me in last minute/day of rescheduling. He was professional, friendly , patient, and gave me great feedback and tips for driving with my daughter. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place and service! Thank you Matt school of Driving! Call, ask questions , and book. Leave a voicemail they'll get back to you . ********HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

We spoke to Mark on the phone. I was clear with him that I needed to take the day off a military assignment to get my wife to the appointment. We showed up on time and they schedule someone else instead. We drove 1.5 hours here from Jamul and even had child care taken care of. When talking to Mark he wouldn't solve the problem. I gave him a solution but wanted to talk over me and do it on his own terms. He told me the childcare was my problem and not his. By far the poorest experience I've had in the United States of America. They don't care about military members and that they're about to go on a deployment. We wasted three hours of our day and $50 on gas to drive here. We had to argue for a refund. Worst business in San Diego in my 6 years of being assigned here. read more

Did not see the earlier Yelp reviews and glad I am adding this review. We could not be more pleased, with our experience with the Matt Driving School! We did buy the Groupon for our daughter and upon further review, we would have likely paid the same total, by transacting with the school directly. The Groupon+ confusion seemingly the reasons for the negative reviews. Do the math, if comparing to other schools and you should find good/fair value here. Scheduling the lessons allowed for flexibility and communicating with Mark, in doing so, just super. My daughter, loved her instructor (Gilbert) and best of all, having completed the course and lessons, now confident and prepared to take her Driver's exam. This is our last of 4 kids, getting their drivers license, here in CA and all with Driver Training (AAA, etc.) and wish we would have found this school and these good folks, for the earlier ones. read more

I tried to call them after getting my deal on groupon to schedule my appointment but they dont answer the phone

I am not sure where these prior reviews came from but our experience and expectations were professional, affordable and on time. The instructor was on time very professional , my son learned a lot of pointers we couldn't teach him , and he got his hours done even though we are under a pandemic. They worked around his school zoom schedule and my son is on his way to DMV to get his road rest and be licensed finally. Thank you Matt Driving School, hope the business thrives for many more years to come. God bless stay safe and strong. read more

BUYER BEWARE In addition to all the extra fees listed on the website, this driving school charges an additional $250 for the "insurance" they need to cover the six hours your learner is in their car, regardless if you already have them covered on your own insurance. There is NO mention of this on their website. I purchased a Groupon that had an alleged "value" of $360 after reading all the fine print and scouring their website for whatever additional fees there may be. An additional $110 for the certificate was listed under their "extra fees," but no mention of the $250 anywhere. When it was brought to their attention, they acknowledged the omission but did not do anything about it. It's one thing to charge $730+ when other schools in the area charge only $300-600, if you think the service you provide is out of this world, but to be called out on your failure to fully inform buyers of your fees and refuse to do anything about it is not only horrible customer service, it reflects dishonest business practices (which I discovered this company has a reputation for). I wouldn't trust to put my kid in the car of a company like that. It's interesting (and highly suspicious) how five-star ratings suddenly pop up after a negative review is posted. Keep shopping. read more

Mark is really a great guy. He went out of his way to help my son on a last minute basis. He was informative, kind , and a great teacher. Taught my son how to parallel park and park on uphill/downhill. He also gave him insight on passing the drivers test, such as alway put ebrake on when car is in park. After the lesson my son had more confidence and is ready for the DMV. Thanks again Mark! read more

My 15.5 year old boy used this driving school and it went smoothly in late 2020. Price seems reasonable and he was always punctual for the lessons. read more

I also found out after the fact of buying the groupon that there would be an additional fee of $120 if you actually want the completion certificate, which is the whole point of doing this. It's the same as buying a car for a great price and later being told if you want the steering wheel, then that's extra which ends up being more expensive then everywhere else. I just find it to be dishonest and I shared that with them via email and here is the response I got back! So you decide if this is a company you want to do business with. If this is how they treat customers, imagine how your child will be treated with their drivers. I wouldn't risk it. Response: "M.A.T.T is Motorcycle, Auto, Truck Training. And I am a female, so this is NOT Matt. Usually we ignore the ignorant and move on, but it seemed like you were asking to be schooled today. Questioning conducting my business is the same is if "I" asked you that your love one is worth only $155 to you, or your are just a cheap guy? Why not pay the full price so that way if you don't understand a product or a service (in its entirety) one can get paid enough to "decode" it for you. Again, you did not slow down to see what MATT was, you just assumed that I was guy too. We all know what happens when we assume. We offer the Groupon for a service that would be the same if you purchased it from us online with a discount. Let me "decode" it for you. If you paid $360 for our 6 hours you still have to pay the $120 for the certificate! There is no hostage, just "those" who don't understand the term "refund". You don't like the deal get your refund and move on! By the way it happens billions of transactions each day all around you. Speaking of damage. in our society supply and demand roles, you don't care where it comes from when it is cheap and marketed right, you buy it. We just hit our over quarter of million impressions this month. I just did not want you to lose sleep over our damaged business. I just feel sorry for you to think all business must be operated the same, you have no clue what it takes to run a driving school. Or why don't you go and get a teen age or a new driver and set him or her in you care drive for 6 hours then charge them $150. Try this Mr. business owner with ethics, fuel, insurance, employees and yes care maintenance I hope you can add. Like I said, we deal with a lot of ignorance but when comes from someone who run a business... I am just amazed how easy it is to vomit your narrow way of looking at the world. You are just upset that you did not read and educate yourself and now blaming everyone but yourself. Hope from now on, if you don't like something or it is not to your standards just move on (Salvage your time), or simply educate yourself and do the "right thing"! Back at you "Buddy" read more

This place offers a Groupon for a discount. You think. But this is not the case. They say they are in Riverside but you not only have to drive busy traffic to get to Moreno Valley(at lease 30 minutes away), but have to pay a certificate fee of $120. So the Groupon for $155 plus $120. That's no discount. It's now $275 plus 6 hours of driving and another few hours of you driving your kid to them in the next city. No thanks. The add says extra fee for certificate, but the cost is not disclosed and then after you buy it, it's $120 more. My older boys went through another company, and for $235, they will come to your house and pick the kid up! The Groupon is a deceptive. We went to the Riverside office, all it is is a cubicle in a business center with a desk and some business cards. Nothing else, nobody else. Total SCAM!! If you do get the Groupon, you are able to TRADE IT IN!! I DID!! read more

It's too bad that there is not an option to give ZERO stars. We purchased a groupon for online drivers ed last week. We did everything we were supposed to do on our end. They informed us via text that we would have to wait a week before they could activate our account due to "maintenance". We tried to login on the date they told us our account would be activated and we still were not able to get in. All of the contact between us and them is via text. You never "talk" to anyone. I texted the # that I had for them and informed them of my issue and they were so very rude. I called my credit card company and canceled the transaction. This is not a company I want to do business with. read more

The previous reviews left have nothing to do with what I experienced. The instructor was very good at giving me feedback and directions. Instructor was very nice and always on time to the lessons. This place is a scam. Like the earlier reviewer, I bought this on Groupon. The completion certificate fee was $120. With the fee, the total was $250 for 1 hour of driving. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Matt's Driving School is beyond spectacular! From the excellent customer service to the clean cars they supplied, we were so happy with our decision to choose them. Definitely will be recommending this driving school to my friends and their children as this was a breathtaking experience! read more

GO ELSEWHERE!! This place is a rip off. When you call the guy out on his bs he threatens you and he jus doesn't have good customer service. Save money if u can. Never buy this. They don't respect ur time. They give very late appointment and most of time reschedule it. They cancel so much that u end up not learning and assume ur money totally lost. We have 2 sessions still Left and last 1 month no slot. Very unprossional service read more

My 18 year old is taking his DMV test in a couple of weeks so we called a few driving schools in the area to help fine tune his skills. Matt's called me back promptly and they were very accommodating. My son said the instructor was friendly and gave him some good tips. The price was affordable, $99 for 2 hours of instruction. read more

Their instructors are really nice and friendly, but not so much the guy running the operation - his name is Matt. All it took was a minor misunderstanding for him to have a meltdown and then scream at me on the phone, he went as far as accusing me of thinking too highly of myself because of my doctorate degree .. LOL. Kid you not, this is the FIRST time someone has accused me of something like that, he got issues and I don't say this lightly. I moved on to another driving school, got my license, and am actually still very good friends with the folks guy there. A word of advice if I may - stay away ! In response to the comment below: I had just one session left and simply moved onto another driving school rather than spend time on back and forth. My full name is Kshitij Yadav, that may help you find me in your system. And sir, your defensive response is as pathetic as your service. read more

This place is a scam. Impossible to schedule driving time because they never respond. We were able to schedule one driving lesson only so the other two prepaid will go to waste. What a waste of money- we will take our business elsewhere. read more

Well if you bought a groupon you will be disappointed, by the time they add on a $120 certificate fee they are more expensive than all of the other driving schools near by, total scam. $120 for a certificate that all the ohter schools include.. no thanks . i would have still used it but after i called to make an appointment the guy on the phone was like watch the video do this and that then you can schedule an appoointment and he was rude on the phone decided to trade it in on groupon, and go for a company that dose not try to scam you $$$$ I mean how can you trust a business that straight up BS.. read more

WHAT A SCAM!!!!! Groupon for $155 says 6 hours of instruction for teen drivers (not including certificate fee). Which they don't tell you is $120!!!!!! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CERTIFICATE FEE!! Every other driving school gives you the certificate for free...it is just a signed piece of paper and costs nothing. Groupon should stop offering this as it is clearly deceptive! read more

I am not writing on behalf of me, I am writing on behalf of my niece. She did this school recently, and her driving is great. I am so impressed with how well she is driving, and she credits it all to this school. After only one class I already feel very safe in the car, with her behind the wheel. In fact, she is telling me things, that I had forgotten over my years of driving. The safe mindedness of this school is reason enough for me to want to write this awesome review. read more

This place is legit. Great instructors, daughter just finished her sessions and received her certificate. Don't complain about the certificate fees. I bought the Groupon deal and I did my research prior to purchasing and I knew in all it was a great deal. Everyone here says they weren't aware, that's what you get for not doing your homework. Thank you Matt's Driving School. Will refer you to everyone. read more

This review is for the I.E. location however, I'm not sure if the same jerk answers the phone for all the locations. Do not ever use this wretched company. This guy was yelling at me on the phone. He is rude and doesn't know the first thing about customer service. He actually hung up on me! Then he called back saying he dropped the phone. Don't waste your money. The sad thing is the instructor was really nice and he made my son comfortable learning to drive. The phone guy... what a JERK. read more

Poor customer service. Mark, the person you have to deal with, has the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with. He pretends to be kind and calming, but what he really is doing is belittling you. He does not return emails in a timely manner and then when you correct him, he again, tries to seem as if he is calming you down. He tried to charge me an extra $20 for rescheduling an appointment we did not confirm. And when I brought this to his attention, his belittle voice came out and when I asked him to stop doing that, he hung up on me. The price was nice, but not good enough to have to deal with his nonsense. Go somewhere else. There are lots of other good deals on Groupon and Living social. read more

$155 Groupon actually cost $275. You buy the Groupon and then they refuse to give your kid driving lessons until you first pay them the $120 certificate fee. Their response to me. I should have read the fine print. I sent them pictures of the fine print they told me to read. No where does it say you have to pay anything else before they allow you to do the driving classes. They are just wanting to scam you out of more money because being honest up front apparently is lost to them. All the site says is certificate not included. Not "we will refuse service to you unless you pay us $120 more" read more

My daughter had taken 4 driving lessons at Matt driving school. The instructor has been 15+ minutes late twice. My daughter told me that the instructor was on her phone most of the time and gave her little instruction. On her second lesson the lady left her and another student alone in the Costco parking lot for 20 minutes so she could get a sandwich to eat during instruction time. On her third lesson the woman also left the car to pick up and eat Luna grill. If you want to get the most for your money, I would not recommend Matt Driving School. read more

Shitty customer service!! Asked a question about what I'm paying for get the 3rd degree like I don't have a right to ask and guy hangs up on me. But only before he tells me I can't pay if I'm not dropping my kid off because they need to see payment and ID. What's the point of paying over the phone if I have to be there anyway, I offered to pay when I drop kid off but they hung up on me. Not sure if the driving course is good or not it's a pain in the ass to get to that point. Sheesh I just want to schedule a simple driving class. read more

Truly- this place is schmarmy! They offer a Groupon- but NOT included is a $120 certificate fee. Groupon listed there was a fee but not the amount. Truly the fee was almost as expensive as the lessons. Once paid, they are very difficult to get hold of to schedule- since they do not ever answer phones but want you to leave a voicemail so they can call you back when it is convenient for them. In the end they refunded my "certificate fee" and I walked away unhappy. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE! Matt Driving school has terrible customer service. I spoke on the phone to Mark who I believe is running this "business." There had been a mix up on our end about an emailing confirmation but Mark was not helpful about the situation at all. He then began to yell at me through the phone and then continued to belittle me as a customer and also someone who works retail. He kept referring to himself as the "Ceiling" that no one is higher than him, and after a long conversation with him he ended up having a breakdown, raised his voice even more, then hung up like a 16 year old who does not know a THING about customer service or professionalism. I do not know of any owner who would hang up on a customer through the phone when all we wanted was some help to clear up some confusion with their policies. For someone who is running a form of service like this you would expect someone who can be helpful when you are confused, but with this driving school it is not the case. They will debate with you about other policies and belittle other companies to make them seem better. For the amount of money we were spending for this school a little courtesy from the owner Mark would have been nice. Still in shock of our customer service here. The service here was unlike I have ever seen before. Word of advice is to stay away from this driving school. I would give him negative stars if possible. read more

The customer service here is awesome! We recommend this school to anyone learning to drive. The instructors were great with my nervous teen, they put her right at ease. Mark, who is the office manager, is awesome! They worked with our busy schedule and the prices are great. For people who want to complain about the pricing- they should check other schools as the pricing is pretty much same.... This company is priced lower with the groupon, you save alot even after the DMV certificate fee which is needed for anyone under 18 to drive in California read more

Bait and switch! Their Groupon special implied pickup & dropoff (it said "within a 20-mile area" in the text of the deal) and the small print mentions a certificate fee, but not the fact that the fee is $120! Pickup & dropoff would add another $75 for a total of $345!!! I'm writing off the $150 I wasted on the Groupon & using another driving school that gets GREAT REVIEWS and only charges $260 for everything! STAY AWAY from Matt RIPOFF School! read more

ZERO STARS! Do not use! Awful system and unhelpful, incompetent staff. First, their system did not save my child's test results so he had to take the exam again. It didn't take much time so not a huge deal but the certificate came a week later with the wrong birthdate! When I emailed them a screenshot of the profile with the correct birthday, they tried to tell me they don't enter in data so it must be my error but they would reissue it. A week went by and I called to follow up and was told it was mailed but they don't track when so can't tell me when it'll arrive. Several days later we did get a second certification in the mail, with the WRONG BIRTHDAY AGAIN! This one different than the first but still not correct. And the postmark was from the second time they called so I know they never did it the first time. The staff member told me my bad experience meant nothing to them, they're too busy so a negative review won't hurt them. Now that we are a month passed when my son should have gotten his permit, we paid for another program and completed their process and received a correct certificate within a few days. There are WAY better options out there! read more

It is expensive compared to other driving schools. They sell coupon for 150$ but their pickup fees is 75$ and insurance is 115$ ( i am not sure if they have so many claims) thy are charging so high.
