I want to thank Beckham for everything he taught me. Passed my driving exam from the 1-st try after 3 lessons with Beckham. After first lesson if he know you drive okay you can even practice on your own car with him. He is very patient (which was my biggest concern) knows how to explain even if you do a mistake. 5 star! read more

My daughter had an amazing time. I wish I could have done several visits with him. It was easy for me to drive with her after him. But I feel like she still needs a little bit more help. read more

BEWARE!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE I will NOT recommend this driving school to anyone. The owner and instructor are both extremely unprofessional and rude. From the start, communication was terrible -- calls and texts went unanswered, lessons were rescheduled last minute, and they acted like my time didn't matter at all. The instructor was impatient, dismissive, and spent more time criticizing than actually teaching. Instead of explaining mistakes calmly, they made sarcastic comments and created a stressful environment that made it harder to learn. That's the exact opposite of what a new driver needs. The owner wasn't any better -- defensive, disrespectful, and unwilling to take responsibility for anything. Customer service is basically nonexistent. Once they have your money, they stop caring. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else. There are plenty of driving schools that actually value their students and know how to teach professionally. read more

Taught me everything I needed to know. Passed my test with flying colors. I will definitely recommend to friends and family.

This was the second time I hired Beckham; first time for my son in 2018 and now for my daughter. He is very patient and thorough in the way he teaches. I like how he's honest and doesn't sugarcoat when my kids would make a mistake. I can tell he's passionate about his job. I will definitely hire him for my third in a few years! read more

Good driver, but who cares? The first rule of doing business is basic ethics and manners -- something Beckham clearly lacks. He hasn't integrated into the culture, still clings to the ways of where he came from, and behaves according to norms that are considered rude both in the West and in any civilised, respectable community. He also speaks broken English. And yes, as someone else mentioned, his nails will scratch you. read more

Beckham is an amazing instructor! Upon contacting him I had two weeks left before my behind-the-wheel test and lacked confidence in my driving skills. Despite this, he was able to make room in his busy schedule for three lessons. Before the first lesson, he went over important rules on the roads such as speed limits in certain areas, blindspot checkpoints, merging, yielding, and much more. During those three lessons, I was able to learn how to drive on the freeway, highway, and in residential areas with his safety techniques. Before getting professional help, I wasn't consistently remembering the important points when to check my blindspots such as turning right in intersections or merging lanes and now I will never forget. I was able to pass my behind-the-wheel DMV test on the first try. I recommend Beckham he is very calm, and patient, and will be straight-up with you on the things that you would need to improve on. read more

A response to the business owner's comment: Change your service area map so it doesn't confuse potential customers. Right now it says you're willing to service San Diego up to Carmel Valley which in which includes Scripps Ranch. In addition, you claim I also said UTC was too far from me... I never said that and I have a copy of the text messages. I only questioned the location and time (a weekday and lunch rush) because I am extremely aware of the location being very busy for to teach a student with limited experience to driving. Perhaps after a couple of hours of instruction at a much safer place would be suitable. I attempted to make an appointment in which I finally gave up after waiting forever for him to reply via text messages. The responses took days and once he did respond, he wants to meet at another place far from where we live as he states it's too far from him which is confusing as he states he services San Diego and we are on Scripps Ranch. Poor business skills and etiquette. read more

I just want to make sure that everyone is aware of this "5-star" service here. The instructor is very cocky and unprofessional. He doesn't give you the proper schedule, and always expects you to abide his schedule. He expects you to be available to have the session at a moment's notice and would bash you for not being available when he is. He always emphasizes that if I didn't follow his rules or schedule then I should find another instructor. Talking about "teaching his students with his heart" lol. He urged me to practice 5 times a week with him for $120 per lesson (which is really expensive and not necessary). He also switches off giving the lessons with his brother which is really unprofessional since he's the one I specifically hired. read more

I am so so thankful that Bekham was my instructor! I wouldn't have been able to pass so easily, if it weren't for him. He was extremely patient with me, and did not lose his cool even though I was a slow learner. He was so kind, enthusiastic, and would always motivate me. He taught me everything and more that I needed to know. He is reliable, and also helpful while booking a date for the driving test. I now feel much more confident driving, thanks to Bekham! read more

I took 6-7 lessons with Beckham, wanting to get a license soon. He is extremely patient and understanding, and has a flexible schedule even though he caters to many students around the San Diego area. Thanks to him, I was able to pass the test on the first try. read more

Thank God I found Beckham on Yelp! I read his reviews here and decided to give it a try. I had another instructor before Beckham that I had to fire because I only learned a little even after 4 lessons. He was inappropriate too. I didn't want to have another lesson. Let's just say I was traumatized that I hold off for a month. I decided to contact Beckham. On my first lesson with him, I could already tell that he is a wonderful instructor. He is so helpful, patient and calm... very professional! He will tell you if you are ready or not to take the test. He will not only teach you how to drive but will also teach you how to be a good driver. He will show you the test routes ! Not only that but he'll also let you drive to places including freeways. I passed my first behind-the-wheel test last Friday 05/19/17. And in less than 36 hours after I passed my test, I drove to and around LA with my friends from 8am-10pm. Btw, I am 28 years old. And I have never driven not until I had my lessons. And to think that I drove more than 300 miles and survived LA traffic yesterday, this review should convince you to call Beckham now and ask him to be your driving instructor. You will not regret it. He is just amazing! read more

I literally was a lost case. I had failed my first behind the wheel test because I "thought" I needed more experience. Until Beckham started teaching me and I realized that I knew nothing! I contacted for a class on Tuesday (my test was on Thursday). We worked hard and, after that, he went above and beyond to make space for me to have a class on Wednesday and Thursday so I could pass the test. The first thing he told me was "my students don't fail". After my first class, I knew I was going to fail and didn't want to do wrong by Beckham... believe me... it wasn't a miracle! It was him!!! 3 days of hard work (and a lot of patience on his part) and I passed the test with 5 little mistakes with the hardest reviewer!!!! If he could work with me, he can do miracles!!! read more

Beckham is the best. My son failed his driving test not once but twice. To be fair, he really didn't have much practice behind the wheel prior to testing. To be good at anything you must practice. And you need solid instruction. As a parent it was my fault for not preparing him and giving him the tools he needed. Thank goodness for Beckham. I found him here on Yelp and all the 5 star reviews are indicative of his ability to teach anyone how to be a competent driver. I'm happy to say my son took and PASSED his test today after taking lessons with Beckham. I only wish I had contacted Beckham sooner! My son now has the confidence and the ability to be a safe and aware driver. Thank you Beckham! read more

We used Beckham for all three of our kids. He took my third son, on his last appointment with Beckham, to the DMV and he got his license before his appointment, saving us an extra trip to the DMV. How do you pass your driving test on the first try, at the Clairemont DMV, with their notoriously most difficult examiner, on his "secret test route," on garbage day when he makes you drive backwards down a narrow street filled with trash cans in your mom's enormous Suburban? Professional Driving Instructor is how! My son was a good driver before working with Beckham. He drove us home safely from LA in gridlocked traffic. He managed neighborhood streets and local freeways at all hours without incident. But Beckham turned him into an excellent driver. Thank you, Beckham! read more

So as this company's website states, I txted this person and the response I get is, what's your address and age picture of permit! First off what kind of business asks for that information over text! I find it weird that they would prefer you to txt them but hay new age right! So I respond with the fact that I am the parent of my 16yr and before I provide any personal information over text message to a guy whom I never meet, I ask him again the cost and mention that I live in the Pacific Beach area! He states that he can't pick up or drop off there! Can't or won't! Please what kind of bullshit answer is that! My friend you are far from a professional! You have no proper business skills and anyone who operates off of txt message is skeptical! You are unprofessional, misleading and a crook! $330 for a class when your website says something else! You ask to be texted, and you claim you can't serve the PB area! Your full of it! I don't recommend this company and his name is fraudulent, so not a professional! These work out of a car and their personal cell numbers are not the best way to teach our children! Would you believe that is guy just txt me and questioned my review as if I don't have a clue! I have never been so insulted in my life by a independent business owner! Since he cares about his review so dam bad, congrats you have one violated my 1st amendment rights to freedom of speech and 2, you are harassing my through text message! The authority's have been contacted, DMV, SD PB and BBB! You should think twice before you send txt to people cause you never know who you are talking to! I would never allow the likes of you to teach a child how to drive! read more

Did my research months ago before I approach Beckham for my very first behind-wheel test. From our 1st session till the final test at DMV, The whole experience was BEYOND EXPECTATION. It's a truly hands-on learning experience blessed with his incredible patience. "Am I ready for the test...", "No, you need more practices..." Thanks for his honesty and babysitting-like care, I passed my behind-wheel test easily, with ONLY 2 errors. "I passed...!" Weeks after, I've been able to drive from SD to LA alone, his voice still echoing around and reminding me HOW TO BE A GOOD DEFENSIVE DRIVER. read more

As a parent, unfortunately, I need to write this review. We are new to San Diego. We decided to hire a professional driving instructor to help my under age, 16-year-old daughter with driving lessons. We found Beckham and saw his good reviews here on Yelp, so decided to hire him. I met Beckham in a parking lot. He spent a bit of time with my daughter going over road signs, etc. The plan was a 2-hour driving lesson to practice freeway driving this time, and then we would schedule a second lesson later for the DMV test. He took my daughter on five freeways, which is great. I also learned he instructed her to drive the car to his home. She pulled in his driveway. He showed her his motorcycle and encouraged her to go around his house to look at the ducks and chickens, which she did not. He then went into his home. He did not invite my daughter into his home. She waited for about 10 minutes and then he came out. My daughter felt very uncomfortable when she realized they were at his home. I called Beckham after this happened and asked him why he took my daughter to his home. He explained that it was because she said she likes motorcycles. I asked him if he knew what he did was both unprofessional and inappropriate. At first, he defended his actions, saying he always takes a 10 minute break and that his actions were fine. This was the first I'd heard of him taking a break during the lesson, had not been discussed before the lesson. Then he fairly quickly switched to saying he always wants customers to be happy, and he asked what I wanted. He offered to refund the $110 for the driving lesson, which he promptly did. I asked him two things: - If he now understands his actions were unprofessional and inappropriate? - If he now knows to never do this again with any customer? He said that yes, he's learned his lesson. You may ask why I did not ride in the back seat of the car. He offered that I could, but I declined. I've been informed by other driving instructors that they don't want parents being 'back seat drivers' during a lesson. I'm really thankful my daughter is ok. We will not be hiring Beckham for another driving lesson. As a parent, who's new to the area, I relied on these Yelp reviews to help me make an informed decision. Thus, I feel responsible to share this experience here, (and you'll notice I stuck to the facts) so others can consider our experience as you make your own decisions. read more

We were able to schedule lessons for our son right away after our local driving instructor was never available. Beckham was quick to reply and easy to work with. He gave tips and was very direct when instructing my son during his lessons. He even scheduled his road test for him. My son passed his test on his first try. read more

Beckham is the best driving instructor in San Diego. He is very professional, friendly, and calm. As a nervous driver, his demeanor (and his modified car) helped ease my fears greatly. Within the first lesson, I was driving comfortably on the roads! He will constantly remind you of the little things like "mirror, over shoulder" and I swear, I'll never forget to do that. After 4 lessons, I practiced once with my boyfriend, who remarked that he felt safe in the passenger seat, and that I would be ready to pass the test. I passed with one error! You are allowed 15 minor mistakes, so that should tell you how much Beckham drills the basics into you. If you're still hesitant, don't be! Beckham works with you and your time so you become a good driver. read more

Had my first session with this instructor on Friday May 5th,2017. Seems like my time was wasted could have been used better. I had mentioned the things I was weak in before our session and needed to work on but we didn't, instead we just went to the test location and wasted 15 minutes at the DMV just to follow the another test taker to check what route they were they going to take and after that practice on that route once. I had mentioned to the instructor before that passing the test wasn't my priority but being a good driver was and learning to back up the car and the parallel park which I was weak in but after wasting my time at the test location he dropped me at my place, advising me to learn the parallel parking from my husband. Why would I pay $90 if I have to learn this from my husband? I could easily hire a baby sitter 4 times for that amount and practice with him if I wanted but I wanted a professional to teach me. I could have gone to the DMV and checked the route my self. This instructor is only interested in his students passing the tests. He kept mentioning to change my test location to Clairemont as he knows everyone there and knows how they do their tests. Again, that was not my intention. He said he would take me to Normal Heights and then scout the place to get comfortable with it. We first dropped his earlier student in La Jolla and then wasted my time going to normal heights by highway. Also he did not act professional and politely. When I presented him a check of $90, he rudely said It should be $100 as he had stated earlier if it was a check. He never mentioned anything about this at all. He was also using his phone instead of focusing on my instruction. When I texted him my grievances, he told me I should have told him what I wanted before starting the test (I did as I stated above), told me I asked him to take me to Normal Heights (I did not, I told him just as an informational thing where my test was, he mentioned going there to scout the place) and that I give another $90 for a full 2 hour session if I wanted these things corrected. Also, it was very hard for me to understand him. English does not seem like his first language, which isn't a big deal. The issue was my understanding him at times. Will not recommend him. read more

Bekham is a star in our book! He's passionate, caring, enthusiastic and hard working. Put all those together and you will see why he gets such high marks. My daughter failed 2 DMV tests and she was very nervous about the 3rd try. If she had failed the third try, she would have to retake the written portion of exam before attempting 4th driving test. Anyway, I decided to get her a 2 hour lesson with Beckham and it was worth it. He quickly assessed her skills and deficiencies. We spent the two hours working on my daughter's deficiencies and voila she passed her driving test yesterday 5/22. Beckham is patient and helps you get better. Lots of repetition and focus to improve driving skill. We paid $90 for a two hour session and then repeated $90 for another two hour session. He's great and I recommend him. He works every day it seems and made himself available to us. Thanks! read more

Beckham was pretty great. He was very relaxed and calmly corrected me when I made mistakes. His tips and suggestions were really helpful! I was so very relieved when I found this instructor! I was attempting to teach my teenage son how to drive but my heart was racing and I was on the verge of a panic attack every time he stepped on the gas! I told him that I needed to search for a professional driving instructor to teach him and I am so glad I did! The sessions are two hours each and affordable and my son was driving on the freeway (believe it or not) on the first day! He had no driving experience whatsoever and I'm happy to say that after only a couple lessons, and some practice in between, my son was able to pass his drivers test and get his license! I've been driving for a few years in a different country and a few times in the US, but I'd been putting off getting the license because I had a pretty bad experience at the DMV the first time I took the test. Despite knowing how to drive beforehand, taking a few lessons with Beckham was a great idea. Beckham knows the test routes VERY WELL and will tell you exactly what to do at each intersection step-by-step. He's also familiar with all the examiners at the DMV (Clairemont) and will share with you his students' experiences so that you know exactly what to expect. Because of Beckham, my driving test went really smoothly and I realized how easy it was! I was able to pass the first try and not waste more money on retakes. Beckham will teach you not only how to pass the driving test, but also how to become a good driver in any situation. I highly recommend Beckham if you don't have a license in the US or are just starting to learn how to drive. With years of experience, he is an excellent and extremely reliable instructor and will take great care of you. Even if you already know how to drive, it is a good idea to take at least one lesson with him so that he could go over the routes and important tips with you. If you follow his instructions you're for sure guaranteed to pass the test on your first try! Thank you for being a friendly yet professional instructor and helping me to effortlessly get my DL. I'll hopefully see you around! read more

I was in a hurry to take my driving test before heading back to college. Despite practicing with my parents, I wasn't ready. Encouraged by all the other 5-star reviews I decided to contact Beckham. I thought Beckham was a really good driving instructor. Prior to taking classes with him, I thought I had a fairly good idea of how to drive, but then when I took just two classes with him, he taught me many small things that I would not have known about before and made a real difference during the driving exam. What I appreciated was all the knowledge he shared with me. He learned from all his previous students, and he gives you all the information that he has accumulated. He definitely knows what he's doing. I used his car for my driving test, and though we had to wait two hours for me to actually take my test, he was very kind and patient to have waited with me. You're probably wondering how I did. . . Well I made 4 mistakes, and I got a "Good job!" written on my test sheet by the examiner. A lot of it is owed to Beckham. He's great, and I really appreciate all the help he gave me. read more

As someone who had already failed the exam before, I had anxiety over the idea of becoming proficient enough to pass an exam coming up in three weeks. I had not driven in over a year and before, I had seized up in heavy traffic and was generally not confident in my own abilities. In looking for a driving instructor, I considered several factors: excellent reviews, price, and someone patient enough to sit through my mistakes. The reviews for Beckham were great, and the price was more than fair, so I signed up for my first lesson. I'm so glad I did! I took only four lessons because of the time crunch and occasionally was too busy to practice driving outside of lessons. Under any other instructor, I truly believe I would have flunked before I could even pull out of the DMV. Through my four lessons with Beckham, he was consistently highly professional and wonderfully patient throughout my mistakes. He has a genuine honesty in his teaching and a manner that puts you at ease. He instills you with confidence and self-esteem and explains the mental work beyond simple muscle memory that goes into being a safe driver. He's the perfect kind of teacher: the kind that is willing to make you uncomfortable in the pursuit of seeing you succeed. (Special Note: On the day of my driving exam, Beckham went through the driving route ahead of time to make sure there were no curve balls being thrown my way. That is the sort of dedication you don't find in your everyday instructor!) read more

I was in desperate need of a driving instructor since my driving permit was expiring soon and got lucky that I found Beckham here on yelp. Don't let the small amount of reviews deter you from not giving his quality service a chance! If you are looking for a patient, friendly, and professional instructor, Beckham is your guy. Not to mention, compared to the driving schools and instructors in SD, his pricing is cheaper than most places. I honestly had such an excellent experience with his service due to how easygoing he was. I got over my fear of driving because of how at ease he made me feel when I practiced driving. I really liked the fact that he goes above and beyond in teaching you safe driving practices and he goes over everything you need to know about the behind the wheel test.
