From the start, communication was terrible -- calls and texts went unanswered, lessons were rescheduled last minute, and they acted like my time didn't matter at all. The instructor was impatient, dismissive, and spent more time criticizing than actually teaching. Instead of explaining mistakes calmly, they made sarcastic comments and created a stressful environment that made it harder to learn. That's the exact opposite of what a new driver needs. The owner wasn't any better -- defensive, disrespectful, and unwilling to take responsibility for anything. Customer service is basically nonexistent. Once they have your money, they stop caring. Beckham is an amazing instructor! Upon contacting him I had two weeks left before my behind-the-wheel test and lacked confidence in my driving skills. Despite this, he was able to make room in his busy schedule for three lessons. Before the first lesson, he went over important rules on the roads such as speed limits in certain areas, blindspot checkpoints, merging, yielding, and much more. During those three lessons, I was able to learn how to drive on the freeway, highway, and in residential areas with his safety techniques. Before getting professional help, I wasn't consistently remembering the important points when to check my blindspots such as turning right in intersections or merging lanes and now I will never forget. I was able to pass my behind-the-wheel DMV test on the first try. I only questioned the location and time (a weekday and lunch rush) because I am extremely aware of the location being very busy for to teach a student with limited experience to driving. I just want to make sure that everyone is aware of this "5-star" service here. The instructor is very cocky and unprofessional. He doesn't give you the proper schedule, and always expects you to abide his schedule. He expects you to be available to have the session at a moment's notice and would bash you for not being available when he is. He always emphasizes that if I didn't follow his rules or schedule then I should find another instructor. Talking about "teaching his students with his heart" lol. He urged me to practice 5 times a week with him for $120 per lesson (which is really expensive and not necessary). I had another instructor before Beckham that I had to fire because I only learned a little even after 4 lessons. He was inappropriate too. I didn't want to have another lesson. As a parent, unfortunately, I need to write this review. We are new to San Diego. We decided to hire a professional driving instructor to help my under age, 16-year-old daughter with driving lessons. We found Beckham and saw his good reviews here on Yelp, so decided to hire him. I met Beckham in a parking lot. He spent a bit of time with my daughter going over road signs, etc. The plan was a 2-hour driving lesson to practice freeway driving this time, and then we would schedule a second lesson later for the DMV test. He took my daughter on five freeways, which is great. I also learned he instructed her to drive the car to his home. She pulled in his driveway. He showed her his motorcycle and encouraged her to go around his house to look at the ducks and chickens, which she did not. He then went into his home. He did not invite my daughter into his home. She waited for about 10 minutes and then he came out. My daughter felt very uncomfortable when she realized they were at his home. I called Beckham after this happened and asked him why he took my daughter to his home. He explained that it was because she said she likes motorcycles. I asked him if he knew what he did was both unprofessional and inappropriate. At first, he defended his actions, saying he always takes a 10 minute break and that his actions were fine. This was the first I'd heard of him taking a break during the lesson, had not been discussed before the lesson. Then he fairly quickly switched to saying he always wants customers to be happy, and he asked what I wanted. He offered to refund the $110 for the driving lesson, which he promptly did. I asked him two things: - If he now understands his actions were unprofessional and inappropriate? - If he now knows to never do this again with any customer? He said that yes, he's learned his lesson. You may ask why I did not ride in the back seat of the car. He offered that I could, but I declined. I've been informed by other driving instructors that they don't want parents being 'back seat drivers' during a lesson. I'm really thankful my daughter is ok. We will not be hiring Beckham for another driving lesson. As a parent, who's new to the area, I relied on these Yelp reviews to help me make an informed decision. Had my first session with this instructor on Friday May 5th,2017. Seems like my time was wasted could have been used better. I had mentioned the things I was weak in before our session and needed to work on but we didn't, instead we just went to the test location and wasted 15 minutes at the DMV just to follow the another test taker to check what route they were they going to take and after that practice on that route once. I had mentioned to the instructor before that passing the test wasn't my priority but being a good driver was and learning to back up the car and the parallel park which I was weak in but after wasting my time at the test location he dropped me at my place, advising me to learn the parallel parking from my husband. Why would I pay $90 if I have to learn this from my husband? I could easily hire a baby sitter 4 times for that amount and practice with him if I wanted but I wanted a professional to teach me. I could have gone to the DMV and checked the route my self. This instructor is only interested in his students passing the tests. He kept mentioning to change my test location to Clairemont as he knows everyone there and knows how they do their tests. Again, that was not my intention. He said he would take me to Normal Heights and then scout the place to get comfortable with it. We first dropped his earlier student in La Jolla and then wasted my time going to normal heights by highway. Also he did not act professional and politely. When I presented him a check of $90, he rudely said It should be $100 as he had stated earlier if it was a check. He never mentioned anything about this at all. He was also using his phone instead of focusing on my instruction. When I texted him my grievances, he told me I should have told him what I wanted before starting the test (I did as I stated above), told me I asked him to take me to Normal Heights (I did not, I told him just as an informational thing where my test was, he mentioned going there to scout the place) and that I give another $90 for a full 2 hour session if I wanted these things corrected. Also, it was very hard for me to understand him. English does not seem like his first language, which isn't a big deal. The issue was my understanding him at times. Will not recommend him. read more

Bekham is a star in our book! He's passionate, caring, enthusiastic and hard working. Put all those together and you will see why he gets such high marks. My daughter failed 2 DMV tests and she was very nervous about the 3rd try. If she had failed the third try, she would have to retake the written portion of exam before attempting 4th driving test. Anyway, I decided to get her a 2 hour lesson with Beckham and it was worth it. He quickly assessed her skills and deficiencies. We spent the two hours working on my daughter's deficiencies and voila she passed her driving test yesterday 5/22. Beckham is patient and helps you get better. I was so very relieved when I found this instructor! I was attempting to teach my teenage son how to drive but my heart was racing and I was on the verge of a panic attack every time he stepped on the gas! I told him that I needed to search for a professional driving instructor to teach him and I am so glad I did! The sessions are two hours each and affordable and my son was driving on the freeway (believe it or not) on the first day!
