This is the worst manicure I've ever received and I wish it wasn't. The ladies are very nice but have technical skills at all. I got a mani/pedi and they don't use liners in the tubs. They do not do fill-ins and I would not recommend them at all. Again, the women are very kind but do not come here if you want to feel clean and leave feeling happy. Since my last review in 2013, I am still a committed client to Matrix. Since 2013 they have remodeled the location, including new massage chairs and a new layout. The service is still great and I make appointments, for convenience, but walk-ins are welcome and the place stays packed on Saturdays. The only downfall is they only accept cash and checks, something I have seen frustrate new customers who aren't aware until after their services are finished. So, be sure to bring cash or your checkbook and check Matrix out. read more

If I could give negative stars I would!!! I asked the price of my services prior to starting my appointment. Since no prices were displayed. I had a pedicure and gel manicure. They charged me a fee to remove my polish. I was the over charged another $10 for services agreed upon then was charged an additional $10 for a tip that they added. So my guess is most people don't notice the additional charges or tips already being applied. When I asked why they added the tip & fees, everyone in the salon started getting very loud making me feel very uncomfortable. I said I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this, I'm just asking why the extra fees charges were added. To then the head lady told me I could just leave in a very calm voice & asked me not to return. I was almost embarrassed but then realized the other patrons were looking at them like they were crazy. Very impressed with the professional nature of the salon and intimacy of the setup so you don't feel like you're a cash cow. New Client::: Returning Client::: Happy Client! Need I say more?!? I called ahead and they said on the phone that they do not accept credit cards as a form of payment. Cash or check only. When I arrived they also had that information on the front door. When I was greeted I was asked if I had been there before because she wanted to let me know their payment terms. They were very efficient, patient, thorough and did my feet polish while doing my gel manicure so I didn't have a wait as customers kept coming in the door. It was super basic, but that's all I needed. 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4 for affordable services! This review is for their brow threading only. Because, here's the sitch, I can't get my brows waxed. Why, you ask? I break out like a 14 year old girl. I know, that was probably an overshare. Nonetheless, I am always on the lookout for talented threaders who offer their services quickly and affordably. When I read Stephanie K's review that had mentioned eyebrow threading, I hopped aboard. I strolled in on a Friday morning and did not have to wait whatsoever. This may be different on a weekend. The decor is pretty nondescript, but that really doesn't matter too much to me anyway. I was there for my $10 eyebrow threading. Upon arrival, I was plopped into a manicure chair while one woman spoke to another woman in a language I don't understand, pointing to my brows and giving her instruction. Sweet Jesus, I prayed that I didn't end up with shards of eyebrows when she was finished. She did a good job. The best, most exacting threading I've had? No. But a solid job overall. Some points that have to be recognized: -Cash or check only: No credit cards accepted here! -The threader threaded quite a bit on the top of my brow, but used tweezers for the majority underneath my brow. I've never had tweezers used so much and because of that, my rogue eyebrows are already growing back in the places where they were tweezed instead of threaded. -They listened to my request of "cleaning up my eyebrows, as I like the shape they're in" - this is huge. It drives me bonkers when the threader takes it upon themselves to create a new shape for you that you didn't ask for. -The service took at least 20-30 minutes. I appreciate that the threading tech took her time and was exacting, but I'm used to a shorter service. I'd try Matrix again because of their attention to detail but I hope the woman who is threading acquires a bit more practice and speed in the meantime. read more

I have been to quite a few nail salons throughout Charlotte, and Matrix Nail is by far my favorite. Although they do not offer the massaging chairs that most salons have, the environment is clean and tidy. A must, if you ask me. The prices are average, for what I believe to be well above average service. The pedicures and manicures really stand out. The technicians spend extra time trimming and perfecting each nail. The jobs are not rushed at all! They offer a wide selection of colors from OPI and Essie and always carry the super trendy colors I am too chicken to try. Please note I have never gotten any gels/wraps/acrylics so I don't know how they rate in this area. I highly recommend the threading as well. They do a PERFECT job and at a much lower price than other salons I have seen. Despite the lack of fancy chairs and that they only accept cash, I will remain a regular at Matrix for the QUALITY of services I consistently receive. read more

Ever scoff at how photoshopped the models cuticles look in nail polish or jewelry ads?! I do but now I'm starting to wonder if they just get their gel manicure done at Matrix because these cuticles are perfection. Girl spent 45 minutes alone on getting my cuticles in check and no she isn't chatty with me and yes she is speaking in a language I can't understand to her coworkers (probably about how jacked up my cuticles looked before) but I didn't go to the nail shop to make a new friend or to talk about the latest Kardashian drama. I came to get my nails done and boy did I. Picture perfect. I appreciate that they put sunscreen on your whole hand before curing the gel especially since I have very fair skin. They don't seem to charge extra for repairing a nail either when you are getting a gel manicure. $30 cash only (or check but who has those anymore?!) and the manicures here last the longest of any place I've been to, almost 3 weeks and considering my nails are in the danger zone for getting broken CONSTANTLY when I'm at work that really says something. Only reason I'm not giving 5 is because I have been here before for a pedicure and while it looked good it wasn't the most relaxing one I've had, though their pedicure chairs/feet bowls are really nice and clean. read more

I'm a regular here. Tran does my nails. She's articulate. My manicures and pedicures last longer than any other salon I've been to. She spends a lot of time cutting my dreadful cuticles. The place is more expensive than other salons but it's worth it considering time is money. They only take cash or checks. read more

This place is pretty awesome. They always do a wonderful job. The gel polish actually LASTS two to three weeks, which seems to never happen anywhere else. (Maybe other places don't make sure it affixes as well so that you keep having to come back?). Anyway, everyone there is friendly and knows exactly what they're doing. I'm not one to do the whole spa treatment thing. (I'm not a big fan of a lot of touching and massage), but they do a great job with the basic mani/ pedi and I always leave feeling pretty. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that they only take cash or credit. But I can deal with that for the awesome nails I have coming out. read more

I have been going too Matrix for years now. It is true they only accept cash but it is only so they can keep their prices low. Every now and then while traveling I will get my nails done somewhere else because I have to and every single time it makes me appreciate Matrix all the more. They truly are the best at what they do. Recently I left the salon and put my shoes on too soon and ruined my pedi. I went back the next day fully prepared to pay for a fresh pedicure and they fixed my mess up for free. They are also great at fixing a broken nail if you just want a traditional mani. They are always super busy around lunch so I recommend going in the morning or late afternoon during the week. Friday and Saturdays are their busiest so I avoid going then. read more

There was some chatter about the colour I selected; did they have it, did they not have it, and I got the feeling they were quite possibly laughing at me; or the colour. The service was horrible. I went in for a pedicure and the pedicure wasn't all that and had insult to injury, they didn't put the little flipflops on my feet, nor did they put anything between my toes to protect my skin from the polish. I felt so dirty with my feet on the bare floor and the floor was very cold. Never been treated this way, ever at a nail salon. No matter who you are, if you are open to the public, everyone should receive your best. I was moved to tears when I left. $25 plus a $10 tip, I felt horrible. I went in for a SNS manicure. I got there and was asked to put on hand sanitizer, which I appreciated due to COVID-19. However, my regular nail salon requires hand washing upon entry, which I like better as it's more hygienic. After that, 3 ladies crowded me all at once handing me the clipboard for COVID-19 disclosure and taking my temperature without even stating what was being done. Then, they yell "cash or check only", which was confusing to me in 2020. I didn't see their miniature sign that was on a 4x6 picture frame, but she aggressively pointed this out. I go next door and get cash back, cool. I would like to add that there were other customers that came in who's temperature was not taken and that did not sanitize (odd). Well after over 2 hours of service, my nails were less than mediocre. The shape was bad, she started the color way above my cuticles, and there were cracks in my SNS. Also, they had a VERY small selection for SNS colors. Now two days later, two of my nails are completely lifting - $50 plus tip WASTED. Needless to say, I should have kept my nail appointment the next day with my regular salon, but I wanted a fresh set for date night. Major fail! read more

This was an alright place I've certainly had better service. The girls there didn't seem to communicate the woman that did my manicure did not know that I also asked for a pedicure nonetheless a different woman did my pedi. Now I don't know her name but my manicurist asked me to pay first before she painted my nails and well I paid $45 I had a mani pedi which is $31 and then they charged me $6 to take off my gel polish off and so I gave $8 in tip thinking that she was going to also do my pedi. She says to wait and comes another woman but I noticed she only gave her $21 I asked this kind woman how much a pedi was there she said $20 so her co-worker only gave her $1 out of the $8 tip I gave she could have at least cut this I'm half and split it between them after all a pedi is a lot harder than a mani. I felt so bad for her well I decided to give her more tip but I really felt like I was cheated by the other woman and I just don't feel good when there is greedy people like that. read more

After reading the positive reviews I decided to give this place a shot. Worst idea ever. I got a pedicure, gel manicure, and eyebrow threading. For the pedicure, instead of any sort of massage when she put the lotion on, she just literally barely rubbed it in on my legs - she never touched my feet. My gel "manicure," what a joke. First, my nails in theory got filed but they are so rough and I can break skin with my nails. I have the gel all over the skin next to my nails. And she was talking on her phone for most of the time. I've been going to Matrix Nail for years and would recommend them to others. Their service is amazing with affordable prices. With the new gel polish, I'm able to keep my nails nice and glossy without chips for at least 2 weeks. On the days I'm in for a rush, I get a wide range of polish for the average treatment. For a finishing touch, I often get my eyebrows retouched with the threading technique (that reaches the smallest hairs that waxing doesn't) and come out with baby smooth skin. They care for their customers every need and have redecorated with style. I always come out refreshed and rejuvenated. read more
