Let me make this very important announcement prior to my review:
I DID NOT STAY HERE AT THIS JUNKY FUNKY SKUNKY SPOT.
I simply was doing a bit of 'research' to see what this place was all about, check out the rooms, check out the staff, and check out the pricing. Boy oh boy, does this place need to be knocked down, redone and made into something fresh, updated and cool. SO MUCH potential yet SO much moldy oldy grossness!!
First, I walked into the "office" and thought I was teleported back to 1962 or an even an better visual: A Quentin Tarantino/ Rob Zombie film set. The male and female sitting behind the "check in desk" were reminiscent of leather face and crazy clown man (Rob Zombie movies) minus the clown makeup. Dingy, dusty, old, musty (musky?) you get the idea. Relics decorated the office that had been there since the days of horse and buggies. The reason I gave this motel one star is for the somewhat normal kid that was appointed by leather face to show me around. I had walked in, asked about a room for one person, one night ($55 including all taxes) and asked if I might be able to see the room(s)) they had for rent. The kid was the best part of this tour, nice and somewhat informative.
My tour guide (I forgot his name) showed me the two rooms (see pix) and proceeded to inform me about the colored glass in the windows, the "antique" interiors (although any person with 1/2 a brain could see that everything in the room was most likely picked up from a "free" pile outside of the Goodwill). He also told me that a lot of people that stay here here break things, steal the bedspreads (because they are so clean, chic and expensive- OBVIOUSLY, LOL!!) then mentioned that the light bulbs always get stolen (rent to crack heads much??) He then walked me out to the front of the motel to show me a relic of a statue of the Virgin Mary set up by the rooftop and informed me that it had been there for several years. I honestly found it to be quite odd but thanked him for the nifty useless 411. What I really wanted to know was, do your patrons leave with lice and upon opening their suitcases when arriving back home, did bed bugs hitch hike a ride back with them. Hmmm, glad I didn't ask, he probably would have fibbed about it anyway. Again, I was simply doing research and NOT staying here so I suppose it really didn't matter.
KEY TIPS for anyone considering staying here:
1) Bring your own sheets and blankets, pillows & towels
2) Bring a gallon of Clorox disinfectant wipes
3) Flip clops (to wear in the shower- DUH)
4) Slippers (to wear on the grody tile or rug floor- Double DUH)
5) Make sure your fridge and microwave work (if your lucky enough to have a room that has either). The 'kid' told me some have them, some don't.
6)Last but not least, Fabreez... I mean, unless you like trailer park skank smell then by all means, leave your Fabreez at home :)
There is a small pool, I'm pretty sure its not heated and by the looks of it, no jacuzzi. As I said before, this would be an AWESOME backdrop for a scary movie (no office actors needed) but as far as an actual place to lay your head... you'd have a better (and cleaner) experience under the bridge at Bidwell Park. If this place was redone, blown out, made into a clean, ultra fun new, updated chic hotel- it would be 5 stars INSTANTLY. In the current condition? GAG. #JustBeingHonest read more
