Carter's My Plumber - Ground filled and leveled after completion

Joshua did a great job with the hot water heater flush. He explained about the anode rod and how…read moreyou can detect when it needs to be replaced by the "smell" of the water. He also tested the water softener by measuring the "grains" of hardness in the water. Quick & efficient. I've been using Carter's My Plumber in Greenwood since Jan 2023. They have been good for me.

Unfortunately, that's where the professionalism ended and the upselling began. Within minutes of looking at my system, the tech told me confidently that I "definitely" needed an entirely new well pump. Price tag? $5,000. No discussion of alternatives. No troubleshooting. No checking the simple, inexpensive components first. They skipped straight to the most extreme and most profitable recommendation. Thankfully, I trusted my instincts and got a second opinion. The truth? My pump was perfectly fine. I didn't need a $5,000 replacement. I didn't even need a $500 repair. Or even a $50 repair. The real issue was a simple electrical problem that the power company fixed for free!!! and at most I needed a basic pressure switch replacement--something this tech should have checked first. But it gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). After I declined the wildly unnecessary replacement, the technician began calling and texting me about how his assessment was 100% correct and to chew me out for a negative review. The pressure to approve the job or his bad assessment bordered on harassment. Completely unacceptable and wildly unprofessional. So here's my honest summary: If you want a company that diagnoses correctly, looks for honest solutions, or respects your boundaries, look elsewhere. My experience was a textbook example of why homeowners lose trust in service providers. Strongly do not recommend! Carter's definitely NOT my plumber.

There were no other plumbers available in a reasonable time frame and the house was unlivable until the work was completed. The personnel on site demanded immediate payment before they left the property without allowing time for the work to be inspected or sending a detailed invoice. Edit: Thank you for the reply, the review stands as written. There were three estimates. The second was verbally approved. The third reflecting the price increase was received by the homeowner sometime after crews were at the house performing work. The 15' of pipe outside the home was excavated prior to your arrival. There was no need for heavy equipment for the few additional inches of soil removal required when the original pipe was pulled. The initial excavation took less than 1 hour by hand. We were told your workmen would "need several hours to fill the excavation" without using heavy equipment (despite you being asked to leave the excavation open). I would suggest you hire workers who know how to use a shovel or listen to the requests of the homeowners. Yes, there were shoddy plumbing repairs under the home done by a previous owner that will be addressed in time. The immediate job did not require changes to those areas. As far as communication, the individual who phoned multiple times during the workday was more concerned with expressing his opinion than listening. All in all, this was a frustrating experience and we will not be repeating this mistake. By the way, it pays to be suspect of any company with only 5 star online reviews.

They noticed issues with placement and exhaust, and they corrected these and let me know about their fixes to prevent future problems. Very kind people. Early the next morning, I had a message from Adam B. Once I got to work, I returned the call and quickly described my issue and what I believed it to be. The first available appointment wasn't until Monday (it wasn't urgent, so I wasn't worried about going the weekend). I got my timeframe. I had a couple other appointments that day, so I ended up taking the day off so I could easily be available. I immediately liked that they told me who would be arriving - AND that was who arrived. I also liked that they use a customer portal that allows you to have some security if you pay online or to review your records. Christian arrived (there was one other person with him). It took him a couple minutes to diagnose the issue he believed it to be, and it took him not a lot longer to determine that diagnosis correct. He quoted the price, I agreed, and he got to work. After finishing the work, he determined the original issue I'd believed it to be wasn't quite needing to be addressed (but will be in the near future). We discussed options, including ways I could save a bit. Christian was personable and explained things in a way I could understand. The issue was likely caused by me, but he managed to avoid using the word "idiot" at any point. The repair was done in a timely manner. The price ended up being a bit lower than quoted. I appreciated his honesty as he very easily could have pointed me toward a repair not needing done yet. It also became obvious the last person I'd used had really only done half the job. Everything has worked beautifully since Christian finished. There are likely a couple more projects I'll tackle in the near future, and I won't hesitate to return to Grateful Plumber. The housecall was $59, but that was credited toward the repair once I decided to have them do the work. Friendly employees. Good follow-through. Fair pricing. Quality work. Problem solved. That's 5-star for me and another winner for Yelp's project feature.
