Representing 2021 in alphabet series, M is for Master Wok. I was here on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Why the heck would I go all the way to White Marsh on a worknight from western Anne Arundel County? Well, I had a date from this woman from online. We met at Kung Fu Tea right near the mall, and she lived somewhere in northeast Baltimore County or even Harford County. Well, she was nice, but she didn't look like her pic. She had tons of makeup on and was cuter in her pic. We stayed for 30 minutes enjoying our bubble teas, but I just wasn't feeling it. I was looking at movie times for AMC White Marsh on my phone and determined I'd give Encanto a try. I told her that I have a movie coming up, hungry & need to eat before, and that it was nice meeting her, and we parted ways. So, I looked on my phone to determine my eating options. I couldn't decide and decided I'd check out White Marsh Mall and their food court as I had never been in that mall before. Options in the food court weren't great, but I felt like gorging myself with copious, unhealthy Chinese food, as I was depressed about driving like 33 miles with Baltimore Tunnel toll for a lousy date that I had high hopes for. Master Wok was pretty weak. It was salty and too much sauce. It's a weak version of Panda Express, and Panda isn't even that great although I was all about Panda Express when I was in college, but tastes change from 20's to 30's & 40's. Staff was nice enough, but unfortunately for the quality of the food, I'm only granting a 'Meh, could've been better' 2-stars. read more

This used to be a fave for me and my husband. We get the same thing - two specials (2meat one side) we get bourbon chicken with extra meat, I get noodles he gets rice. The side USED to be vegetables. Now EVERYTHING is a side and EVERYTHING is extra. Who eats bourbon chicken without rice or noodles as a base? What Chinese food EVER doesn't come with rice or lo mein? I get an up charge for noodles but come on. So I can either have chicken with some cabbage OR I can have rice/noodles?? Didn't put any sauce in the food (didn't even ask) charged me for the 2 ramekins that should have come with it anyway and then when I asked for a couple extra bc they are so small they wouldn't flavor anything, that was an ADDITIONAL up charge. All said and done for something that should have been around $25 wound up paying almost $40. Absolutely ridiculous- especially for soggy vegetables that amounted to a TON of cabbage and MAYBE a full piece of broccoli if I put all the little pieces together and a shred or two of carrot. Chicken was dry and full of fatty pieces, had barely warm, over greasy noodles, and the rice was barely cooked and ALSO very greasy. Made me feel like "hurry up and buy" energy. Staff was rude for having ZERO customers besides myself you figure they wouldn't be argumentative over everything- but I guess that's why all the up charges - when you price gouge your customers make subpar food and are rude guess you have to get every dime since they probably won't return. Didn't used to be like this. Was one of my favorite places to eat. Would gladly drive the 35-40 minutes it takes for me to get there to get to White Marsh mall solely for their food. I use to be such a huge fan and don't get me wrong the food is still decent but I recently just visted a week ago with my girl and I got 3 plates i ordered and got the deal where it's like $10 for 2 sides one meat I ended up getting 2 of those. I got noodles , orange chicken and fried rice she only ended wanting one side and one meat ( teriyaki and rice ) and then I order a smaller plate the half ones they have on that one I got chicken and broccoli and the fried shrimp and no drinks ... I'm expecting to pay less for the half plate since the normal ones are 10.99 or something like that ( combos ) not sure of the price exactly but I know it's 10 and some Change anyways we go to pay and at first it comes out to $52 and I'm like how tf if the 2 bigger plates $10 how the hell did the smaller one end up being $30 I say something to the lady she gets the other lady comes and Lowers it to $48 her accent was a lil thick and there was a line also like I said I was with my girl I wasn't trynna look cheap but 2 specials and one small plate was $48 with no drinks ?! After sitting for three hours getting my hair braided, I was starving so I decided to try this restaurant located in the food court. I could have had a V8. I was not impressed and the food was mediocre at best. It is mall food, so my expectations shouldn't have been that high, however, I was starving. I ordered vegetable lo mein, plantains, and vegetables egg rolls. The food serves its purpose, I guess, which was to satisfy my hunger. The lo mein was ok. The plantains were dry. I couldn't even eat the egg roll. I'm used to being able to taste and identify the cabbage within the roll but it looked like mush. I will say that it was close to closing and that could be the reason the food wasn't very appetizing. Restaurants in the mall usually try to get rid of food close to closing time and don't really prepare fresh food due to that fact. I will never go back to that restaurant. Sorry no pics. Absolutely DISGUSTING. I ordered a bourbon chicken with lo mein from there and I had my stepdad taste it. He couldn't eat it and said it was nasty. I thought he was joking. When I came home to eat the rest, I was several bites through until I felt the chicken getting chewy. I spat it out and analyzed it, finding out that it was raw in the middle and on the bottom side of the piece of chicken. I began to panic and look at all the other pieces, realizing they ALL had been severely undercooked in the middle. Like the chef put the heat so high that the outside look great but the inside was disgustingly raw. Never again. I recommend Sarku Japan if you want to get nice THOROUGHLY COOKED food. Master Wok located in White marsh mall, their food is full of grease, immediately turned off by the shocking amount of grease at the bottom of the plate. I had the lo mien and honey chicken ($10). The service was nice the ladies serving were very kind and understanding. Not much to say about the area all the food was displayed behind a window and it was very appealing. This vendor is like the cousin of the Cajun vendor just across the mall food court. What really is the difference? In the name of fairness, I ordered a two-item entree from both of them and put the two food containers side by side in the photo. Frivolity aside, you couldn't really go wrong here either. I thought there was a good variety of dishes to choose from. Service was decent and there wasn't much of a wait, even on Saturday. I've been going to white marsh mall my entire life but have never tried this spot. I wanted something different than Sarku so I specifically went out of my way to come here instead of the Sarku stand-alone store right next to my work. The food was good, portions were smaller than other chinese food spots. I got fried rice & noodles, and the spicy bourbon chicken. I ate the food around 2pm, and by 5pm I was sick the rest of the night. First and last time going to this spot. Sad because the food didn't taste bad but definitely don't recommend the food poisoning. read more

They are few places selling BBQ chicken in this mall , and I found out this is the only store using the fresh chicken from Perdue Farm ! From my observation, their employees are pretty in a good team works ! Open steam table showing all the choices of foods , you can ask for a sample ! Tried it for lunch because it's the only Chinese place in the mall. Very disappointing. Sarku Japan is right across from it with much, much better food. Had the 2 meat combo with an egg roll. Lo mien wasn't bad, but everything else was not good. Egg roll was crispy but needed a lot of duck sauce to drown out the bland taste. General chicken and spicy chicken were both very dry, and neither of them had particularly good sauces either. Skip it. read more

I must preface this review by saying that one of my favorite dishes is the Teryaki Chicken from Sarku located directly across from the new Master Wok location. As my wife will surely tell you, I have an infatuation with the Teryaki Chicken and white rice. (Yes, double meat please!) However, as I am sure many of you Sarku fans know, it can be extremely frustrating when you walk around the corner and see a line a mile long and know that it will take probably close to 15 minutes to actually get your food. One of the worst feelings is walking up with no line, ordering your food and then realizing the person in front of you just got the last of the chicken and now you have to wait for 10+ minutes for a new batch to be made. So, where am I going with this you ask??? Well......one fateful day about 3 weeks ago, the mall was packed and Sarku had the mile long wait. I looked across the way and saw Master Wok. I thought to myself...why not. Let's give this place a try. As I walked up, I was greeted with a sign reading two entrees for roughly $6. Being the smart person I am, I knew the sign was misleading, and it should have read, "Choose Lo Mein or Rice and then two meats." They do not even try to serve it seperately. Even with this misleading advertising, this eal will still be less than Sarku by more than a dollar. Bonus in my book! I decided to try the lo mein, which in my opinion is excellent for a quick service walk up counter restaurant. My wife agreed with me. Nice tender noodles, not to salty, not dried up from sitting around all day. The food seemed fresh. For my two meats I went with the Teryaki Chicken (Big Surprise) and Spicy Chicken. The Teryaki chicken was good, but not as good as Sarku. The spicy chicken was excellent. After reading the last review, I think it may depend on when you visit. All 3 times I have gotten food from Master Wok, the chicken seemed very fresh. This was around 5:00 PM. They may have just prepared this chicken for dinner. Perhaps if you go during an off time, it may be less than satisfactory, but I cannot comment on that. The portions I received completely filled me up, and I am picky with that. I hate when you get one tiny scoop of chicken, but I didnt run into that problem. Master Wok is a great back-up place for me if Sarku is packed. To be honest, on one occassion I did actually go to Master Wok over Sarku. My old back-up, Cajun Chicken, has gone by the way side. I went two times and both times my chicken was dry and seemed like it had been sitting out all day. The portions are not plentiful either. went last night for the 2nd time first time was not so good so i figured I give them a 2nd chance and it was worse than the first time ! First time was just after they opened like a week or two ordered Gen chicken (which is my fav) it turned out to be burnt orange chicken tasted like cardboard eewww, so I tried again one last (and finality ordered gen chicken over fried rice an egg roll and they were completely out of wanton soup, (should have checked before we left but had to get home to hungry people, opened the Styrofoam container and it looked like the chicken was burnt agent one bite and it was wretched tasted burnt, tough and dried out very dried out the egg roll was so over done that when i picked it up it crumbled in my hand the rice was not done at all when rice is crunchy it is far from done and the veggies in the rice was not done either service was bad 2 kids that had no clue what to do kept pointing and asking is this it is this it gee NEVER again i can think of a better place (Sarku cross from them) to spend 45 bux on for 5 people and for better food,service and manners did NOT want to give a star but website makes you :( read more
