An honest mechanic, what more is there to say! My wife and I both have had car issues in the past few months (I'm a bit late writing this review), and since we didn't know about Herbert we started off at other places that insisted on VERY high prices that didn't seem right to us. We came here to get a second opinion and gave us his assessment and it of course was a significantly lesser issue, with both cars. It is great to finally have an auto mechanic that we know we can rely on that will provide quality work for a reasonable price. We will be bringing our cars back here in the future when necessary. read more

The guys at Master Tech have easily exceeded my expectations. I'm really glad I found them, thanks to all the 5 star reviews on Yelp. Herbert is honest, informative, a good listener, and takes pride in his work. Just one of those is difficult to find in a mechanic, but all four under one roof? Exceptional. He used to be a repairman for Toyota for about 20 years, I think he said. He clearly knows his stuff and talks straight with no over-sell. I recently bought a 2001 Camry and took it to him for an inspection and advice about servicing. He listened carefully to my rambling description and made two needed repairs, both very good value and well done. I also have a 2015 Forester that had a scraped bumper (it's too soon to live with it), and he has just repaired it after 3 days. His quote was very competitive and great value, from what I discovered by doing some research. The result is outstanding. No two-tone bumper repair; it genuinely looks as good as new. I tried another local repair shop that also has high reviews on Yelp: Performance Plus. They're good, but they don't listen as carefully and weren't as informative -- and they don't take reservations, so I was turned away three times. I got tired of that. Glad to be able to remedy that problem at Master Tech. I'll definitely be taking my cars back to Master Tech for servicing -- but hopefully no more body work. read more

I'll make this short. I went in to get my car checked because it was overheating. I didn't have an appointment so I had to leave my car overnight. The next day I get a call letting me know that it was the engine's head gasket and that it would cost $1800 to fix it. I said no, so I go pick up my car, and the guy that runs the business was really nice about it, explained the "issue" and tells me to think about it, and that inspection is free. I then start asking my friends if they know of a reliable mechanic, so I go to this other mechanic for a second opinion, and he tells me that it's not the head gasket, that it's a cracked radiator, and to replace it, it's $450 (including some gasket and hose). And guess what, I've been driving the car for 2 weeks now, and the car no longer overheats! I went from an $1800 bill to $450. Did you even check my car?! If you had, you would have seen the obvious issue which was the radiator...or were you trying to rip me off?! Which is so messed up...this is why mechanics have such a bad rep...over people like this shop that tries to take advantage of people like me who knows nothing about cars. Moral of the story, BE CAREFUL!!! Always get a second opinion, never go off of "5 star"reviews. read more

All the positive reviews are right on. Herbert is great with cars and the owners. He offers options and very fair pricing. I had made an error in changing a headlamp bulb that caused the bulb to melt into the plastic housing. The dealer insisted I needed to replace the entire assembly at a cost of over $800. Herbert repaired it for less than $300 and did some free diagnostics for an additional problem, with a recommended course of action. We are definitely returning whenever we need our cars serviced. read more

Me being someone who doesn't have many experience with the mechanics of a car I appreciate that he explains things in an easy way to understand. Took my truck in to see what was the problem, I kept hearing this grinding noise. Took it to Master Tech and Herbert and I took a drive down the street and he already knew the problem! This guy is the man! He really took care of me. He explained and showed me the problem which was my Rear Axel. He broke down the prices of each and every single part. Left my truck there a couple of days so he could work on it and he even offered me a rental in the meantime for me to continue to go to school/work. When I got my truck back it was BRAND NEW! Last month my Subaru's radiator broke and was leaking. I called Master Tech, and they didn't answer the first time, most likely due to being busy. A few minutes later, the owner himself (Herbert) calls back and returns my call. I didn't leave a message, but he was attentive and nice enough to to call back. And then I ended up making an appointment. First thing the next morning, my brother and I took it to the shop. Herbert introduced himself and was very polite. Left my car and in a short few hours I get a call saying it was done. My cars radiator was changed and ran as if was brand new. When you have car issues you want to go somewhere where: A. The mechanic is completely competent, honest, and actually enjoys his work, B. The prices are competitive and easily broken down/explained, and C. After the work is done, you leave feeling that your business is actually appreciated. Well this is the place. Herbert has over 24 years experience working on Toyotas and Lexus's and is also an expert on hybrids. He explained exactly what was going on with my car, what issues took priority, what could wait, and even showed me how much he makes on labor and parts. Talk about being transparent! This guy is as straight up as they come and tells you exactly what the issues are! I don't let just anyone work on my Lexus, and Herbert isn't some shade tree mechanic looking to make a few extra bucks on the side. This is his livlihood and he's very professional about it. The repair I had was water pump and t-belt replacement, cam seals, crank seal, and a new thermostat (All OEM Lexus parts). I was looking at nearly $2,000 at the dealer for that job. He charged approx. 50% of what I would have had to pay the dealer and even let me use a loaner for free!! Herbert at Master-Tech is truly THE BEST auto mechanic I've ever had working on my Infiniti (and other cars I had worked on by others). I don't say this lightly because I don't only shop for the best prices but also for customer service. Herbert will rent you a car at his cost while your car is in the shop with him AND you don't have to be in L.A. for him to offer this service to you! I had multiple serious work done including minor ones like smog/safety inspection and oil change and as soon as the parts came in, the work was done in just few days. A good and honest mechanic is hard to find, I used to drive all the way down to Orange County to get my cars fixed but now I never have to go down there again. I've brought both my Toyota (Japanese) pickup truck and Volkswagen (German) to get work done and both times Herb has done an amazing job. The way I found Master Tech was I had an emergency problem with my truck and had it towed to the closest mechanic by my house in Torrance. The manager quoted me a price which was pretty average and one of the mechanics there told me to check out Master Tech! Short story: Herbert and his crew are honest, friendly, knowledgeable, and do quality work. I will always give them my business. Again, HONEST and full of integrity! Strongly recommend! Long story: three years ago, my car had problems starting up intermittently so one of my really good friends recommended going to Master Tech after he got a bunch of work done on his car. I went, they fixed the problem and then spotted another problem. Now, this second problem was very costly. Herbert explained what they would do to fix it and what would happen if I didn't fix. Then, he said it could wait since it wasn't something that needed to be fixed immediately or posed a danger. Of course I chose not to fix it. No pressure, no scare tactic - I'm impressed. About a year later, I went to get a 90k major service done and he mentioned the problem again. Again he said, just for my info, no big deal if I still want to wait. But this time I decided to get it fixed. Herbert and crew fixed it - they showed me the parts they took out, the issues with said parts and why it needed to be replaced, and the new parts before they sealed it back up! Honest! Ok, story is getting long. Fast forward a few more maintenance visits, brake pad changes, etc. Yesterday, I went in and asked Herbert to give me a quote on something I thought should be replaced. He quoted, we discussed, he ordered the part, and I returned today for the job. Well, as it turns out, the part didn't need to be replaced. Herbert was honest about it, said he couldn't possibly charge me since the work didn't need to be done even though I didn't know better. Who does this?? HONEST! Because he chose not to take advantage of me this one time, he has earned my business for life. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of auto shops that would've chosen a quick couple of hundred bucks NOW and not care about future business or reputation. He has years of technical experience from working at the dealer and takes pride in his business' reputation and quality of work. He is a super honest guy that I would trust more than just my car with. He knew that I was interested in learning the cause of the issues my car had and how the parts work mechanically so he took the time to explain this to me and even show me the parts under the hood. Herbert truly cares about making his customers happy as he was able to walk me through the various options I had for the repairs and the different parts and pricing that were available to me. We had a great experience working with Herbert! I brought our SUV in to get an estimate on our broken air conditioner. He checked it out and said it should be an easy fix. I was surprised to hear this since I had an estimate a few weeks before at a different mechanic and they wanted to take the dashboard off and charge us an exorbitant amount. Herbert and his guys fixed our AC in 45 minutes (with the dashboard on ;) and saved us $700+ dollars! On the way there was an incident with industrial wire lying across the interstate which destroyed my car's underside. While a Toyota dealer in Illinois was able to get me back on the road, once here I kept hearing an ominous rattling from the rear of the car. After a test drive, Herbert was right on in his assessment that my muffler & exhaust pipe were hanging from the bottom of the car. Every step of the way Herbert explained what he was doing, even showing me the underside several times. He even did his best to make the burned plastic of my bumper (from the out of place exhaust pipe) look better. This isn't something he had to do or charged for, he just went above & beyond. Herbert explained everything in a very clear way so even I could understand. Came here for an exhaust leak repair solely because of the numerous good Yelp reviews and very glad I did. I was 30 mins late for my appointment and Herbert wasn't there, but he came back right away. Left my car on Friday afternoon, it was done Saturday morning. Herbert showed me the damaged part and told me about the attempted a repair, but then explained that a replacement part was better. I was fortunate that the part wasn't costly and they did not have to replace the whole catalytic converter unit.. whew! ($300 repair vs. a $1000 repair) I also had them do a synthetic oil change, which was done very quickly. Parking in the plaza where the shop is located is a huge challenge, but the mechanics are proactive and move the vehicles around efficiently. read more

Was referred here a couple of months ago when my only 1 year old brakes that I got replaced at a brake shop in Culver City starting making terrible noises. This place was nothing short of AWESOME. The owner was extremely helpful, courteous, friendly and knowledgable. I was given top notch last minute service at a great price. He even used Toyota certified parts which the other place did not use and he charged less than the shop in Culver City by nearly $100. I was not oversold on anything or pressured for additional services and he squeezed me in that same morning.
