Herbert was a big help for me with getting my 2016 Honda accord touring fixed. I had taken it to multiple mechanics AND the dealer, and no one could tell me exactly what my issue was and just be straight with me. I had an emissions system issue that gave me the code 'P0139'. The first mechanic I took it to last year told me that it was a simple o2 sensor issue (rightfully so considering the code I was getting), yet when he replaced the sensor, the light continually came on. So he replaced it again, and replaced another o2 sensor on the vehicle (according to him). When none of that worked, he told me that my catalytic converter was faulty, and that I was going to have to pay roughly 8k for a new one. Safe to say I didn't believe him, nor did I stick around and simply take his word for it. I started making calls and, at first, genuinely believed that I was going to have to come up with the 8k by summer 2026 (when my smog inspection was due). I thought at one point I was sold a faulty vehicle too and even tried to receive compensation for the error. Turns out that wasn't the case, and even if it was, there wasn't much I could about it anymore. I took it to others who quoted me ridiculous prices for a simple diagnostic, I took it to others that just simply couldn't tell me what was wrong, and then to make things more confusing, the light would go on and off and would even go off long enough for me to pass smog!!! (Even though the first guy I went to said my catalytic converter was bad). Then, I looked online and found Master Tech. Great reviews, great location in the South Bay (Torrance), and fair pricing. Diagnostic was about 160, which would go toward repairs if needed, and if they couldn't find the issue I'd pay zero dollars! When I first got there, already Herbert pointed out things no mechanic pointed out before. I was told and under the impression that all my sensors were new and changed... they weren't. He also informed me that my vehicle was an American built one (not Japanese or Canadian, which I heard can make all the difference in quality). That's information that, although wasn't a huge concern, let me know that this guy paid attention to detail and really cared about what he was doing. He then told me to leave it with him later on in the week so he could give the vehicle TLC (tender love and care), and to be comfortable with not having my vehicle for a couple days (wasn't a problem at all). Eventually he gets back to me after a day and lets me know that the sensor had to be changed out with an oem one, as the previous mechanic put in an aftermarket one. On the day that I picked the car up and paid for the install, we both hopped in and took it for a ride, and the engine was running smooth like butter now. No more rich running (causing my gas to burn faster), and no more harsh shifting. He then hands me over the old sensor and informs me that I should go get my money back from the other mechanic. It turns out, the other guy was trying to screw me over (surprise, surprise!), whereas Herbert was honest and righteous. The piece the other mechanic put in was a Bosch sensor, made specifically for German made vehicles. Smh. It was for VOLKSWAGENS and the like ONLY. He was just trying to get me to pay him thousands, and perhaps allow me to further damage my engine and transmission from the issues he was forcing my vehicle to go thru for the time that it wasn't working properly due to a lazy, incompatible o2 sensor. I was relieved that I found Herbert who was able to help me and install the correct piece for a fair price (443 roughly, as opposed to the almost 700 dollars the dealer would've tried to charge me). I called the dealer to get some work done on my 4runner because I had some, what I thought to be, great coupons and the prices just seemed crazy for what I was going to do. Not great. After paying $200+ for AC refill with dye to find the leak at a later date. Once AC ran out and obviously leaked somewhere instead of actually inspecting it thoroughly gave me a $2500 estimate. Went down the street and again paid for a refill but this time the leak was found at a fraction of the price as it was a minor leak. $86 out the door fixed. read more

Herbert helped me diagnose and fix an electrical system issue with my mom's 2010 Honda Civic. I did some initial diagnosis myself and thought it was the starter, but I told him what I looked into and asked him to verify my assumptions. He did that and told me the starter was fine. The battery had been drained dead from deep cycles from something in the car's electrical system while the car was off. He did some testing of various parts of the electrical system and found an aftermarket system from a previous owner that was the problem. Service was fast -- it took about a day from when I brought it into the shop. I know from experience that debugging electrical system problems in cars are time consuming. I'll definitely come back if I need additional work. Highly recommend this place to others too. read more

I came in for a synthetic oil change + tire rotation + engine air filter + cabin air filter for a Prius C (my partner's car). Everything was reasonably priced. Herbert, the owner, was easy to talk to, friendly, and very upfront and honest about everything. I brought batteries for the car keys and asked if he would be able to change them for me, and he did it for no charge (he would charge if I hadn't brought my own batteries of course). He also fixed the hazard lights on the car. He told me that since it was simply unplugged and all he had to do was plug it in, he wouldn't charge me for that. It was refreshing to meet such an honest car mechanic! I will be bringing my own car in once my own car runs out of ToyotaCare. This place was recommended to me so I booked my appointment for an oil change. Unfortunately, they found a few problems so I had that fixed as well. I knew that I had problems with my gasket and shocks - and they found it. (Good job!) after they fixed it, I did the difference. My car was running more smoothly. Herbert was awesome.
