We bought our house in 2013. As it was an older home the brick facade needed mortar repair. We wanted to have this work done before we moved in. We checked several masons online and chose a company which happened to have high reviews. Over the years we found out that the work they had done did not sufficiently correct the problem and resulted in our throwing away a lot of money for poor workmanship resulting in more damage. Contacted via website and never received a response: We were in need of some patches/repairs to the exterior bricks of our house. I called this company - based on a google search - to request a quote to repair a large crack in the mortar on the front of my house. Roger called me back right away, came over to look at the scope of the work, and walked all the way around the house to see if there was anything else that needed to be done. He found a fairly large area where our mortar had been completely washed away due to a sprinkler head that had been spraying it over the course of many years. His quote was surprisingly reasonable, so we scheduled him to do the work. As it turned out, I wasn't home during the time the work was being done. When he arrived, he called my cell phone to tell me my garage door was open (oops, I had accidentally forgotten to close it). He actually closed my garage door to secure the house, and then completed the work. I was a bit skeptical since I didn't know him personally, but I had no choice but to trust him since I was quite a ways away from home at an appointment that couldn't be skipped. When I arrived home later that afternoon the work was complete, the garage door was, in fact, closed and everything in my house was just as I left it! And basically I couldn't even tell where the cracked mortar had been. He matched the mortar so perfectly - just as he had promised when he came to give me a bid. He even called afterwards to remind us to change the sprinkler heads that had caused one of our problems to begin with. Roger Landry is the masonry expert to call if you need work done. My house had six areas where the bricks needed to be repaired and Roger thoroughly explained to me what the nature of the problems were and how he planned to fix them. Roger does all the work himself and did an excellent job with all of these repairs to the point that once he finished, we could not even tell the difference between the repaired areas and the rest of the house. November 2014 - I am reviewing the work of this mason (Roger Landry) from a job he did for me in 2006. I would have written it before now but couldn't remember his name and only ran across his invoice today. If I could give this contractor ZERO stars I would. I was shocked at the hurried and careless way he conducted his work -- this after his smooth salesmanship to get the job. To this day I stare at the mortar "repair" he did on four bricks at waist-height on the garage (not hard to get to, in other words) and am always shocked at the ugliness of the work. The part that angers me the most, however, is his lack of concern for my safety concerning the chimney on the house. The chimney was in need of serious repointing work but he only slapped mortar in between four or five bricks and called it a day -- not mentioning at all what a terrible condition the chimney was in -- and I couldn't tell from ground level. I later found a man who pointed out how dangerous the chimney was. He worked on it for five days (from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 at night) -- chipping out the old mortar altogether, which he said was the only way to secure the bricks properly (so they didn't come tumbling down in a high wind, possibly hitting and killing someone, he explained), and replacing it with mortar he mixed laboriously to try to match the color. I took photos of the entire operation I was so impressed. Furthermore, Roger charged $685.00 and it took him no more than a couple of hours, if that! By the time he was ready to leave his disposition had totally changed -- he became mean and demanding, in case I balked at his bill -- so I wrote him a check and he left. But I have been angry about this job for years! I do NOT NOT NOT recommend Roger Landry, this self-proclaimed "master" mason! read more
