I love the Russian Revolution roll. It is the bomb. They have good lunch specials. Dinner gets pricey and the amount given is a bit lite compared to other places I have visited that charged a good bit less for much more and the quality was the same. I like the location in downtown Fairhope. You can take a nice Sushi lunch and hit all the galleries around to walk it off. Service is really dependent on server, but most of the time they are nice. Highly recommend if you are in Fairhope on a visit. Hampton Inn is right next door if you are visiting. read more

What a great sushi place! We had such a great time at Master Joe's. It has a great atmosphere and an excellent staff. They were very accommodating to seat our group of eight during a busy time. For the prices and ambience you would think the sushi chefs would all be in hats and nicely attired jackets instead of t-shirts. Also, not smart to eat there when Joe is out of town and his nephew is in charge. Hangs out doing nothing but texting behind sushi guys in a tee shirt (pics available upon request). Sushi guy at Shanghai Cottage at least wears a coat even if it does look like he sleeps in it. Something about some of the staff, and I can't put my finger on it but it comes across as a little condescending. I have had several items I had to send back for being just warm so they appear to have an expo issue. Tee shirt thing really, really detracts. When i eat there I feel like I am in an upscale Buckhead Atlanta venue. I think Joe has taken both of his restaurants and patrons a little for granted. For Fairhope, I was really surprised to find a hidden treasure. I live in Mobile and there isn't many great sushi restaurants in our area. I would drive 30 to 45 minutes to go here versus the ones in Mobile. When I am ever in the area, I will definitely go back for lunch/dinner. Miso Cod was good and so was all the sushi. read more

The specialty rolls are good in size but a bit overpriced is you ask me. Usually about a 30 minute wait if you don't make reservations in advance. I would highly recommend adding this stop to your trip! They don't take reservations. We went on a Friday in October during an art festival downtown- the 45 minute wait was well worth it. I definitely over ordered; most of the rolls are large and filling. The Bay roll was my favorite but everyone at the table raved over the Bama roll. I can't wait to go back! read more

Monday night in Fairhope, AL and most restaurants are closed. Yelp steered me to this little gem located next door to the Hampton Inn. Wait time was about 45 minutes so I decided to order take out and enjoy my meal at the Grand Marriott in Point Clear (10 minute drive from hotel to Master Joe's). My wife and I split the House Noodle (Udong Soup with shrimp), a Bama Roll, and a California Roll. The soup was delicious and plentiful, the California Roll was your standard offering, but the Bama Roll was over the top. So many wonderful things happening in that power packed roll. We will keep Master Joe's on our Fairhope short list. read more

A cute little sushi place. I like their lunch special choices well enough and have liked about half the rolls I've tried from them. Some are super gross, though. When it says mayo they mean actual mayo- not aioli or a thinner sauce made from mayo. All sauces are piled high over the sushi, so that's all you can taste. The plain rolls are better than the social ones, for sure. I have been known to call their special roll selection 'deep fried redneck sushi', sadly. Plain rolls, nigiri, and sashimi are the way to go. read more

Combinations in rolls that will blow your mind and your tastebuds. Catchy names rival the ingenious fusions of flavors that take your palate from the Kremlin to Japan in one bite. Great lunch specials, but the higher priced rolls are worth EVERY penny. You won't be disappointed with the service, the selection, the ambiance or the great little art shops. If you are traveling on business, the Hampton Inn is right next door. This little sushi place has a wonderful selection of IPAs and PERFECT Saki, too. read more

The manager here is very hostile, we walked in and greeted some friends and then were told that "this is not a bar you have to eat" (which we were going to do) upon telling her that we want to eat she told us "you have to have your id's. Very rude. read more

On a sales project within Baldwin County, AL and was in the mood for some sushi over the weekend. A client recommended "Master Joe's" in downtown Fairhope. From the reviews I read here on Yelp! I was expecting something different or at least, delicious? I got neither. My friends and I sat at the bar so that we could watch the "chefs" make their sushi creations, it's amazing to watch but a shame the visual presentation of the finished product does not make up for the bland taste. We split 4 different specialty rolls and I could not taste the difference, they basically all tasted the same, a bit bland and way to soft, like eating rice and fish marshmallows. With two drinks and and a coupe of side salads the bill with tip was over $90.00. I have had much better at this price point. On a positive note, down town Fairope is simply lovely! read more

This is by far the best sushi in the area, top three I've ever had. Similar menu to Shanghai Cottages (same owner), but the quality of sushi is even better than Shanghai's already top tier sushi. Every detail, even down to the rice, was perfect. It's hard to find a sushi bar that has perfected it's rice, but they have done it. The tuna and salmon quality was impeccable. I had the Oceans Eleven roll which I give 4.9/5 stars, and the crab Rangoon rolls as an app, served with a side of amazing sauce, which were also stellar. The atmosphere was warm and very clean, with a nice low level noise ambience. The service was flawless as well, no complaints. Considering how busy it became, our sushi took no time at all to come out. The price was very reasonable, especially considering its downtown Fairhope. We will ONLY be visiting here from now on; no other sushi place compares. read more

This is absolutely my favorite place ever! I was blown away by how amazing my sushi was. I had the Bay Roll and ate every last bite, which is saying a lot for me. It was the perfect place for a date night, and who doesn't love to go on a date in downtown Fairhope! We had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a seat (we sat at the bar) but let me just tell you, it was totally worth it and I would wait longer if needed. I'll just be over here dreaming of my next return. No seriously, it was that good. read more
