What a pleasant surprise! Lil Pug recommended and we were on the way home driving right past so she and I stopped by, both had the shrimp hibachi. The yum yum sauce alone was worth the trip, over heard another customer raving about it before we got ours, he was right, best in town maybe the world. Enough food for Lil Pug to have a second snack/meal at home later. Gentleman behind the counter (Aben maybe? Fella with the ponytail on top and shaved sides) may have been the nicest person I have encountered this week. Over the top friendly and helpful. Shame some jackass came in while we were eating and was very rude and racist in his interaction with him, who kept cool and smiling. (FYI not all racist are Caucasian as this man proved) Food was GREAT from the salad (simple but the dressing, mmmmm) to the hibachi shrimp and fresh cooked Vegs. Sweet tea was VERY sweet but a simple taste before filling my cup alerted me to mix half and half, problem solved. Love this place. We eat here every other week or more. The chicken hibachi is excellent. I like that the chicken is a little crispy. They usually give me so much food that I can easily share with my 11 year old daughter. And it is affordable enough that I can justify ordering sushi in addition to that and having plenty of leftovers. But it isn't just about the quantity. This is yummy! And the yum yum sauce I always order extra of because it's so good. Also, not too crazy about the giant carrots so we just ask for extra steamed veggies instead. If you need food fast, call ahead. Since this place is so close to where I live, I was excited to try this place since the reviews were great! I ordered the Hibachi chicken with a side of mushroom soup and pretty much everything was completely bland. I'm by no means an authentic junkie, but I do expect my hibachi to actually taste like... hibachi. I've never ever had breaded chicken in a hibachi meal (if this is the norm, that should be advertised) and everything underneath the chicken was greasy as a result. Every single piece of food both looked AND tasted as though they had been waved in front of a bottle of hibachi sauce. The vegetables were severely undercooked and flavorless as though they had simply steamed them in a pot or microwaved them. The clear mushroom soup again tasted as if they had simply boiled a few slices of mushroom in a cup of water, no punch of umami or saltiness to be found in it. The most egregious of these things is that I requested the house sauce or the "Yum-yum" sauce as it's often referred to down here. I've had many different variations of this sauce... but never have I had someone mix mayonnaise and ketchup and try to pass it off as something else. This place felt like a real waste of money. It felt like an inexperienced American's idea of what hibachi food tastes like without ever actually eating good hibachi. read more

I've been coming here for years and eat here at least twice a month; however recently there has been a change of staff and it just hasn't been as good. My last visit was particularly bad. The girl working the register wasn't friendly and almost looked annoyed every time someone walked in, then upon sitting down we realized the air was on 79 and it was insanely hot. My favorite sushi restaurant in Mobile or south Alabama in general. We always do carry out, so I can't speak to the inside eating. They are super quick with making the food, and we usually order a lot. The sushi tastes, smells, and looks fresher than any other restaurant around. The price point cannot be beat. Most rolls are $2.50 per roll, and that's just amazing for the quality. I always get spicy mayo on my rolls, and they are one of the few places who consistently get the flavor right. I place my orders late because of work but I always call ahead because I hate being one of those last minute customers I started calling around 9:00pm they close till 9:30. They probably recognize my face I'm there pretty often around the same time with the same simple order. I call and call half an hour before their closed I've called at later times than this and no one picks up so I finally give up and drive up there to just be told they were closed when they still had about 10 mins trust I worked in food and I hate being that person but when someone was literally blowing up your phone there is no excuse to tell someone you are closed! I have dined in, as well as utilized the take-out service. The Chicken Hibachi is ok. When taking out, the chicken is a bit dry. Dining in, it's much better. I will say that the hibachi meals have less grease and are a lot lighter than that of a traditional hibachi restaurant. The "Opposite of War Eagle" Roll (Im an Auburn fan) aka Roll Tide Roll, is FANTASTIC. I've had that 4 times, and it has been consistently good. The last time I had the roll, it was a bit smaller, so I suppose it depends on who is making the food-just like anywhere else. The seaweed salad is decent. Cuke salad-decent, as well. I LOVE the Tempura Banana. Even when taken to go, it holds up considerably well. Average cost is around $22for 2 people for dinner. read more

I went in expecting a fairly quick and appetizing meal. It was neither. To be fair, they do prepare food for takeout but I was one of two people inside the restaurant and waited 20 minutes for my order. The chicken in the stir fry was very dark brown and hard due to being overcooked. Fast and quick Japanese food in this area of Mobile is a great idea. I hope they get it figured out. read more

Went here for the first time because of the good Yelp reviews. I was seriously misled. The tables were dirty, the wait was long after we ordered, the food was mediocre and overpriced, and the atmosphere was terrible. The sushi was lukewarm and didn't taste very good. I even got stabbed in the mouth by an eel pin bone from the Shake Rattle Roll. The egg rolls and dumplings tasted like they came from the freezer aisle of a grocery store. All the patrons looked like high schoolers (not that I have a problem with that, but the obnoxious group of guys at the table next to mine were loud and foul-mouthed). I could have gotten a better tasting all-you-can-eat meal from Hibachi 1 on Cottage Hill @ Hillcrest for the same price, and I could have gotten much better food plus delivery from Panda Haven on Grelot for even cheaper. Don't waste your time here unless you really love crappy, overly-Americanized "Japanese" food. read more
