I took my car into this place for a second opinion about the rear brakes and they told me I needed new pads and rotors. I took pics and emailed them to the dealership where i take my car for all service and they told me there was still 7mm pad left. The guy tried to tell me the dust was from the tires and I told him it was impossible because I had the tires rotated 1 hour before so there was no way the brake dust was from the tires normal wear and tear. He told me I had less than 1mm brake pad left and I asked how he could tell without pulling off the tire and either measuring or doing a visual inspection, and he said he could "feel" the amount remaining. Get a second opinion. They wanted to charge me $650 for to replace a perfectly good part. This place is not honest. They will lie straight to your face. read more

We called Master Muffler and they offered us a courtesy check for FREE today. It was half an hour and complete with pictures and a printed checklist. Everyone was prompt, friendly, respectful, and the facility was clean and comfortable. We had a very scary and difficult experience with our daughter's car starting on fire, while she was driving it through Ogden, UT. She is a UW college student and we live in another town in WY. Needless to say, we were 8 hours away from her when it happened and we knew no one in UT. In her panic, she requested the tow truck take our car to Master Muffler & Brake Complete Auto Care in Ogden. We have had some communication challenges back and forth with our insurance...BUT, JOHN AT MASTER MUFFLER HAS BEEN A COMPLETE PROFESSIONAL!! First and foremost, his first question was...is your daughter ok? He has checked in on us, done more than his due diligence and continually kept us up to date on his efforts and the progression of our vehicle. STAY AWAY and be aware that many of the positive reviews are from when this was BEXELL Auto! I took my 2004 Silverado to Master Muffler to have the exhaust manifold replaced due to it failing emissions. I picked my truck up the following day around 3. As I exited the parking lot, my check engine light came on. I gave a quick call to Jacob (manager) to ask if that was normal. He stated that it was not normal and to come back to the shop so he could check it out. I was back to the shop within a few minutes. He hooked the truck up and found that the engine light was on due to a bad coolant temperature sensor. Jacob stated that the work they had done on the manifold could not have caused this issue and said it was more than likely just a "fluke". He tried to explain to me that the sensor was on the opposite side of the vehicle and no where near the manifold. He cleared the code and sent me on my way. I drove straight to the emissions place for a retest. As they were testing, it died and they couldn't get it started back up. I called Jacob. He said that they ran the truck for a long period of time while it was in the shop to burn off the residue that was on the new manifold and the truck may have been out of gas. We added gas to the truck and it started back up! The emissions were completed but the truck died again and the engine light came back on with the same error code. I called MM but they were closed for the day. Truck would not start! I had to have it towed from the emissions place for $85. I had it towed to the shop across from Master Muffler this time (because MM was closed and the oil shop recommended Coreys Auto). After looking at my truck, Corey determined that the coolant temperature sensor was in fact broken and it was more than likely broken by the techs at MM because it was within inches of the new manifold (not on the opposite side like Jacob had tried to tell me). Coreys Automotive was amazing to work with and they took video from start to finish so that I could work with MM for reimbursement. The total for the tow and repair was $350. I reached out to Jacob and explained everything and asked for reimbursement. Jacob stated that he would check with the owner of the shop and get back to me. After not hearing back I called Jacob again and he stated that the owner (Justin) was out of town and he wouldn't have an answer until Friday. I called Friday afternoon and Jacob said the owner hadn't called him back yet and he probably wouldn't know until the following Monday. I called Jacob the following Monday and he said the owner called out sick. Tuesday, Jacob called me and said that the owner (Justin) was not willing to reimburse me because I had gone to a different shop. I explained why I went to a different shop (1- MM was closed and 2- Jacob had repeatedly told me that there was no way the sensor was broken by them since it was supposedly on the other side of the vehicle.) I asked Jacob for Justin's number to discuss, and Jacob said I would have to reach him at his other location. I called and tried to speak with Justin multiple times but he would NEVER take any of my calls or call me back (he was outside talking to someone, he was in meetings, his wife showed up and they went somewhere) I finally spoke with John (other location manager). After going back and forth several times, he said they would reimburse me for the sensor only ($130) but not the labor or tow. He said it would take up to 3 business days to appear in my bank account. We are now at day 7 and haven't seen any refund. I called John multiple times today and he said he would "look into it" and get back to me within 20 minutes. After 4 hours I called back and found out the "new guy" never processed the refund. John said he would process it while I was on the phone but I'm still waiting for it to appear in my account. Even after the $130 refund I had to pay $220 for their mistake! Justin never had the courtesy to call me back to discuss the issues. STAY AWAY FROM MM! If you need help, go across the street to Coreys Automotive!! read more

I am SHOCKED and dumbfounded at how I was quoted $350.00 PLUS dollars to replace my front brake pads. Was it because I am a single woman? Should I have brought a man with me? I did get a second opinion and ended up paying $50.00 for the brake pads and $100.00 for labor. Where in SAM's HELL did they get $350.00 PLUS dollars? called master muffler for quote on replace front end tie rod 4 each, told me 892.00! On my motorhome! Told them well i will change them my self and have you do front end alinement, he told me 79.95, so after i install all tie rods on the front end. I called them for appointment they told me 189.95 plus extra parts what ever needed, and they said i had to pay them to move front end alinement fixtures and tools also, what rip a off! they soaked 30 days before that on rear brakes akle seals for 1350.00 ! read more

I thought I had a leaky transmission but when they viewed it they said nothing was wrong with transmission, it was a CV Valve. I payed them to replace it and when I went to pick up my car it wouldn't even start. A friend of mine, who doesn't work for them, came and within 15 minutes he had my car up and running again. Before I even got home my car was smoking like crazy. My friend checked it out when we got back to my place and the car was still leaking transmission fluid and there was a very obvious crack in the transmission. They would not refund me. Big waste of money, would not ever recommend anyone to go here. read more

I had just come from a mechanic I trust who checked my car in preparation for a trip. I specifically had him check the belts and fluids. He changed the oil and filter and other fluids. He found a crack in the exhaust flex pipe, but he does not fix mufflers. The next day I took my car to Master Muffler and they repaired the crack (expensive - more $ than a new muffler). Then I was given a list of items they recommended needed repairs/service. They listed several items including an oil change ( just done the previous day), power steering fluid and a new belt (both of which my mechanic told me are in great condition). The amount of extra services they said I needed amounted to $440.00. I won't be going back there. When you need car repairs you really need competent and honest professionals. Master Muffler in Ogden does not meet that standard. read more

My car failed state inspection due to a hole in the exhaust pipe. $400.00 later (pipe repair, replacement muffler, remove and replace fuel filter & air filter), they told me I needed brakes. Per the mechanic who did the inspection a day prior, my front brakes were very good and my rear brakes were good for a least a year. I will not return and do not appreciate being upsold. read more
