Came to this location to have a new alternator installed in my Toyota 4 Runner. They installed a rebuilt alternator without my permission and then charged me for a new one. I called them out on the dishonest way they handled the transaction and demanded a partial refund. The manager admitted that's the way they do business but did agree to refund a portion of the bill. They also tried to charge me $49 for "shop supplies" without disclosing that ridiculous amount to me before authorizing the work. We had a discussion about that also and agreed that $10 was more realistic. They have an interesting business model. read more

My wife bought a car from carmax and opted in for the extended warranty. When something broke almost a year after, we contacted carmax and they gave us a list of places to go to that were contracted with them. this was one of the places that was close to to us, so we went and we had double checked with carmax and our policy to make sure all we had to pay was our $50 deductible. We called this place and they said yes to taking on the job. My wife took the car, .. car max told us all we had to pay was the $-50 deductible, but when we called to pick it up, they said it was going to be $650. We asked why and all they could say was because here part was expensive, but when we called carmax, they said that they were wrong, the part was included in the contracted price. Anyways long story short, carmax had to call them to ask then why they were charging us $650 and they couldn't justify it. So they then agreed to charge us the original price and when me and my wife went to pick it up, they guy was rude and was mad at US! for making carmax make him respect the original agreed price. Master Muffler is a business that I would have initially given a 5 star rating to. I still believe that despite the poor quality of service, they deep down don't intend to mess up as badly as they do but due the number of issues I feel like they have now earned a 1 star review. I decided to bring my Jeep Wrangler in for repairs because they treated my girlfriend right when she brought her van in last year. They were honest about what was urgent and what repairs were not immediately necessary and LAST YEAR they seemed to do a good job. This year however was a very different situation. My Jeep has been back in 3 times to repair the mistakes they made the first time it went in. Each time the Jeep was worse off than when it initially went in. Not only that, but the first time I went back for warranty repairs they "found" another issue (very minimal leaking radiator hoses) that could have easily been cause the first time I went in when they were working on the front of the Jeep, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and paid them to fix the leaking hoses. This experience had been time consuming and a huge inconvenience resulting in the need to take time off work to bring my Jeep in more than once for urgent repairs (covered under warranty), I've had to find other ways to get to work when my Jeep was getting repaired and I've had to cancel or change plans that were very important to me to accommodate that need for warranty repairs. There is absolutely no excuse for a vehicle to have to be brought in 3 times to repair the same things over and over again. I was going to let this slide and skip the review but as I was getting off work today my girlfriend sent me a text saying her van was back up at Master Muffler.  We had brought it in a couple weeks ago to repair a leak and guess what? It was leaking again and they were fixing it under warranty because the part they had ordered "didn't come with the clip" it should have so they didn't install one. I feel like maybe with a pretty good rating they are getting more business than they can handle and rushing simple repairs resulting in bigger issues. They seem happy to fix their mistakes over and over again under warranty, so that's alright but I am now left with no confidence in the repairs and I now have to live with the stress from wondering when the repairs will fail next. Or maybe wondering if the failed repairs caused more damage or issues that will impact me later. I seriously hope to never have to go back to Master Muffler again! read more

I just left Master Muffler off 2600 I Bountiful/NSL. A fabulous experience. I couldn't get hot air out of my Nissan. Dropped it off late Friday and got a call about noon on Friday from Rick, the mechanic working on the car. He found a leak in the radiator, tightened it up and topped off the radiator. He walked me through what he found and even had a picture of the loose hose clamp. Total cost:$0. I am blown away. This is my go to place for repairs of any of the cars in the family. I can't say enough good things about them. Any business that is this honest and focussed on loyalty is worth supporting, especially when they do a great job. I have been going to Master Muffler in Bountiful for a few years. They have worked on a couple of my vehicles. I had pretty good experience with the previous manager Shawn. I was told Shawn had left a few months ago so I was dealing with the new manager Tom I went there today October 26, 2022 I had an appointment to have them adjust my Parking brakes. They were pretty busy so I had to wait an hour before they pulled my 2007 one ton pickup into the bay. They had the wheel and rotor off in about 15 minutes. The drums for the Parking brake were pretty worn so I asked them how much to replace them. 20 minutes later they gave me the Estimate to replace the drums. It was 527.00 3.5 hours labor and 98.00 for the Parking brake pads. Five hundred and twenty seven. The truck needs Some other work so this was far more than I was ready to spend to Replace the Parking brake pads. But I wanted the parking brake to work. This same shop had replaced the rear pads and ground the rotors, less than 1500 miles ago. I said ok just adjust them so that the parking brake works. It blew me away when Tom Quoted 3 hrs to adjust the Parking brake pads. At a shop rate of 120/hr that was 360.00!!! I wanted to make sure he understood I just wanted them adjusted so we walked out to my truck. I said I just wanted him to have the mechanic adjust the knob to expand the drums. He said 3 hrs. I said it could very easily be done in less than one. Then Tom said THREE HOURS THAT IS WHAT THE BOOK SAYS . I wanted it done so I offered them 200.00 to get them adjusted. Tom said no it is not worth our time. So they put the wheel and rotor back on and I left. I drove 2 blocks north to Schwab and asked them how much to ADJUST THE PARKING BRAKE. price was 49.00 Schwab adjusted them and they work great now. I do not like to leave bad reviews because I have had my own business. BUT THIS IS REDICULOUS!! I SAVED OVER 250.00 BY GETTING A SECOND ESTIMATE I saved over 80% greg read more

Don't go here! These mechanics are nice, but they do not know how to fix brakes. I brought my car in because my brakes were acting up. They claimed it was a master cylinder issue and sent me on my way. The next day I went to drive my car and it was not fixed. My car would not escalator and it was like I was driving the brake on. I return my car Master Muffler and they worked on it and said they had fixed the issue. The next day my car had the same issue! It was not fixed!! The issue was so bad my brakes smoked and I had to pull over. I had to call for someone to pick me up because my car was undrivable! It was scary!! I did not go back for a third visit to Master Muffler. I went to a new mechanic. He told me that they probably replaced parts I didn't need fixed and my car was a mess. Shawn and Jake are awesome! I was on my way from CA to MT for the holidays and as I went to get off the highway to get gas I noticed I had to press my brakes all the way to the floor to stop (yikes). I stumbled here by chance and they were clearly busy but they made time to get my punctured brake line replaced and get us back on the road so we could get to MT that day. This is a great shop. They do a lot more than just mufflers. They're very knowledgeable and informative, offer to save you your used parts when the work is complete for transparency. They were able to get my work done on a saturday without an appointment and the rates are very reasonable. I'll be coming back here without hesitation. Update 6/16/2018: I was back in today for an alignment because my tires were wearing unevenly. They did an alignment and straightened my crooked steering wheel for $57. Seriously, take your car here rather than to the dealership. I even overheard them in the back talking about a quote a dealership gave one of their customers and the workers were pointing out unnecessary things that the stealership was just trying to milk the person for. I stopped by Master Muffler, and now they call themselves Master Auto Tech to replace my car's muffler, Bruce the shop manager stated he requires a week lead time. I returned to the shop one week later, first, he didn't know why I was there, and then he could not find my appointment, and lastly told me I needed to wait about an hour to find a vacant lift. His technician finally put my the on the hoist and came back to tell me they would install a stock muffler with a year warranty at $550 plus tax and hangars are extra. Bruce told me on our first visit that he was planning to use a stainless steel muffler with a lifetime warranty, at this point I wanted to talk to him but Bruce was on the phone trying to teach his friend how to be an effective manager, now I am waiting at the counter for him to finish the call but he continued to carry on tutoring his friend, finally, I asked him can you tell your friend that you will call him back, he turned his back on me and totally ignored me, he acted like an obnoxious child. I had enough of these people and asked the tech to put my car down, Next, I drove to Ray's muffler, I was very impressed by their professional attitude, they gave me a stainless steel Magna straight-through muffler with a lifetime warranty for almost half price. read more

I don't write bad reviews, but after months of car trouble, I feel I have to say something. After multiple attempts and almost two thousand dollars, my Jeep still was not fixed right. I had to have all of their repairs redone and have a feeling the faulty wiring on my ges caused my powertrain module and alternator crash. I called these guys about a hanger on my aftermarket downpipe, that needed to have a mushroom welded to the hangers, to keep it in the OEM bushing location, and the guy on the phone was very polite and welcoming. He said come in on a certain day, so I came in and the guy at the counter in the office was very friendly, polite, and professional. They brought my car in their shop and put in onto their lift within 5 minutes. I've never had a shop do that that quickly before. Their shop is nice, clean, and organized. Their staff/mechanics are knowledgeable and professional. They welded new hangers, and adjusted my aftermarket downpipe, and did it very quickly. My car went from annoying rattle, to OEM smoothness once again. I highly recommend these guys! Great pricing, great service, and honest workers with high integrity. MM has had my car for over three weeks now for transmission. Originally Freeway Transmission was going to get this taken care of in less than two weeks (order of parts/work), I was told, when Master Muffler somehow siezed the job from Freeway, which I was unaware of: MM simply called me saying they would deliver my vehicle for me to Freeway, rather than me using Triple A to deliver it, but which I didn't mind doing at all anyway, but they said they would deliver it for me. And so I canceled my AAA tow service. I now regret doing that, however, because little did I know that MM was actually taking the job over, nor that the job would be prolonged way beyond the timeframe Freeway promised for completion. Have had to cancel two medical appts, plus I've been without my vehicle for almost a month now. Ridiculous. Called early this morning, after advising I was able to re-schedule med appt for tomorrow at 8:45am, but when called at EOB found out that car still won't be done until noon tomorrow, and so had to again cancel med appt, as I'm still w/out vehicle. I'm not sure that this job-takeover was even ethical, as they'd told me they would simply relieve me of having AAA deliver the vehicle to Freeway, rather than assume the job themselves, the job-time completion parameters of which, obviously, having completely changed from what I agreed to initially. No apologies, no offer to discount due to insane delay, not any gesture whatsoever to remedy or aleve the situation ... UPDATE: Now I'm back to square ONE: apparently the transmission slipped, the MM mechanic injured himself, the transmission CRACKED, and my vehicle is now going (after 3 weeks of fully nothing to show) to Freeway Transmission of Salt Lake, where it SHOULD HAVE BEEN from the very start. I've had serious misgivings about how this entire project had 'slipped away' from Freeway to begin with, without my original consent (and, now, someone was injured in the process). No idea, at present, how long I'll be without transportation ... anybody's guess, really. UPDATE: To MM's great credit, they at last were able to bring this ordeal to an end, and did proactively discount the final bill substantially due to the many hiccups. I have to applaud them for tenaciously sticking with this. They ended up not passing the issue off to Freeway Transmission, but were able to successfully repair my vehicle. A BIG THANK YOU after all to the mechanics involved and for the positive attitude of MM management. Their ultimate treatment and cheerful remediation has won my loyalty, and I sincerely thank them. read more

I came to this place thinking I was gonna get a good price on fixing my car my car. Need new Catalytic converter so I already knew that and bought the parts I came to the shop around 5pm I talk to the sell advisor and explain to him and he told me we could get that done for you no problem he told me the Labor price and how long it was gonna take and then he said he was going to take six hours to do one side and six hours to do the other so it'll be until tomorrow so I knew that wasn't right and it wasn't going to take that long to fix it then he told me some else that could be wrong because we get customer that come here thinking they need to replace there catalytic converter but it could be a other problem so I was like alright then he said we'll let you know once we have it in the garage we'll give you a phone call back so I said alright then when I receive there text message saying the full price for the problem to be fixed and believe me the bill price was way high then we agreed so I told him why is that and he was tryna come up with an excuse about the part I bought and I knew he was wrong so I told him how he could fix it because the part I bought him so he said why didn't you fix it yourself then I told him because I don't have the tools so then he told me to take it to the dealership and see how much they'll charge me so I told him alright but I knew that wasn't a good sells advisor talking to me like that it's just wasn't right. Dishonest. I've brought my cars to them multiple times and two of those times my car sat outside their shop all day just for them to call me at the end of the day and say that they couldn't do it. After they guaranteed me that the work would be done the same day. Just brought them exhaust tips to install and they had my car for 8 hours just to tell me at the end of the day that the inlet of my tips were 2.2" and were too small. Measured them and they were 2.5". Perfect size. How dumb do they think they're customers are? They obviously didn't want to get my car done that day so an excuse was their way out of it. read more

Im really grateful I took it into this location because while inspecting my car, they ran into some more issues and were luckily able to fix it all at a really price.
