I've occasionally referred to this site without being a member for some time, so it's about time that I started contributing. Usually, I've been interested in barbecue restaurants, and it seems that my favorite, Texas Smokehouse is always well thought of.
Just for the heck of it, I thought I'd check out the ratings of some of my other favorite businesses. I was astonished at the rating of Master Automotive, based on one disgruntled customer. So, I'm now a member, and am posting my experience with them.
Master Automotive has been my favorite auto repair service for at least ten years. The only time I go anywhere else is when (and where) he sends me because it would be a better deal for me. Also, it's been a long time since I did my own work, and as long as Waid is in business, it will be a long time until I take the work out of his shop.
Of course, he specializes in the higher end imports, and I wouldn't take my Mercedes anywhere else, at least, not first. As a reward for my loyalty, he also takes care of routine maintenance on my company's vehicles, as long as I schedule in advance.
When I first started patronizing them, I wondered whether such a modest looking operation could actually provide expert AND economical service. I have absolutely no doubt that they can and do.
Good service? Well, in addition to his remarkable reliability in timing and in skill, he takes pride in explaining what he observes and what it will probably take to fix it. Are all of his diagnoses complete and accurate the first time? Of course not, but I wouldn't even expect that from an MD. He provides his best estimate of the problem and provides a realistic range of solutions, from which you can make an informed choice.
I own and operate a business, and I understand that each company has its own price structure, based on its specialties and its competition. Above all, total price is the most powerful differentiation among competitors. Experience and quality of service must be weighed by recommendation or by actual patronage.
It is possible to pay too little for an item or a service. Personally, I find it either unethical or maybe just ignorant for someone to acquire the benefit of someones expertise, and then to make sure they profit from that expertise as little as possible.
I know, I know, you can save some cash in this moment, but to me, client-customer relationships are not all one-way. Loyalty (not BLIND loyalty) should reward both parties to the exchange. I'm quite disappointed in people who, for instance, try on some clothes in a local retail store, then go to the Internet to buy them cheaper. Understandable, I suppose, but how are you going to retain business relationships with this mentality? You won't, and you'll only encourage deceptive behavior.
Surprisingly enough to some, there are people who patronize dealerships. I'm one, when it comes to very specific problems. I always compare their service and prices with Master's, and am more than satisfied with this small shop's product.
Over the years, I've recommended Master to everyone who has a need for his special brand of service, and only one couple (that I know of) discontinued using them. They lived at a bit of a distance, and Master was just too busy to accept some of their work at the times convenient for them. You can look at this as a failure to provide service, but I see it rather as a real service. He could (as so many do) over-book his business and then return customers' cars late and with rushed work.
In short, I've found very few ethical auto repair facilities. Master is far and away the most knowledgeable and ethical I've known in my 30+ years of looking. The prices are very, very competitive and realistic, and Waid personally guarantees his work, following through always.
He says what he does and he does what he says. Does he "know what he's doing?" Absolutely, in my honest opinion.
As a fellow business owner, I am sometimes worried that he doesn't charge enough. The only person Master Automotive treats unfairly is Waid, himself. You would really like him if you value honesty, reliability, consideration AND excellent pricing.
Give them a try, especially for the best care of your high-end German car. read more
