I have had some very hit-or-miss experiences at Winghaven Massa's over the past couple years. I used to come here about once a month circa 2012-2015 because of the fun ambience, live music and good food. Unfortunately, the past several times I've been have been underwhelming to say the very least. The service has been poor and the food hasn't been great. After my Plan A and B both fell through last night due to extremely long wait times, I called Massa's and they had no wait, so I decided to head here. Maybe it was the lack of a dinner rush, but the server was very attentive and visited our table several times, which was a MASSIVE improvement over my recent visits. Additionally, the lead time between ordering and getting our food was only about 15 minutes, which was solid. My Philly Cheesesteak and sweet potato fries were delicious and hot when it came out. The pizza the other guest ordered (the Big Al's pizza) was also very good. Overall, this was a refreshingly good dining experience at a place that had really slipped in recent years. I've taken it off my "do not go" list and it may reenter the regular rotation if the next few visits reflect the enhanced quality of this visit. read more

Massa's Winghave is a smaller restaurant with nice ambiance. I typically go back and forth between the Steak Modiga Medallions and the Chicken Piccata. They are both perfect everytime, just the way I like it. Meat and tender and sauce is very flavorful. Prices are not outrageous for the quality and service you will receive. read more

Decided to stop by for Saturday night dinner, the place was so busy and packed but we got seated pretty fast. We decided to sit outside, their patio is nicely lit and looks over what looks like a fountain. Service was a bit lackluster and took a while to get everything but the food was good enough that I would come back and give the service another try! The chicken Alfredo sauce was a bit watery but still had good flavor to it, the meatball sandwich was a great portion and it was delicious, the Caesar salad was huge and filled me right up! All in all, we will be back when we are back in town! read more

I stopped by Massa's on a road trip and was looking to try the famous toasted ravioli in the area. It's hard to describe the exact vibes of this place, but I was feeling a bit of mardi-gras energy. There was a happy hour special where one could get a half order, so I went with the half toasted ravioli and the half jalapeno mac n cheese balls. The toasted ravioli had a lot of breading to it. You could hardly tell any pasta was involved, but that doesn't mean the taste was any less! Just expect a drier mouth even with the (quite small) side of sauce they serve it with. The ravioli could do with a bit more filling as well. A whole lot of crunch, but not much else. Those jalapeno mac n cheese balls outshone the toasted ravioli for miles! I could taste jalapeno in these balls, not just the mere essence of spicy. Each ball was piping hot and had the perfect level of gooey cheese. I'd recommend this side. For the main dish, the buffalo chicken sandwich caught my eye. It came with a side of less-than-impressive fries, but the chicken more than made up for it. Never have I had a buffalo chicken that was so juicy and flavorful. It was served on a more baguette-type bread rather than the traditional bun. The sandwich could do with a pickle or two but was otherwise delicious. The waitress was excellent at stopping by to see if anything extra was needed and filling water. It was her second day apparently, and any confusion was made up with her friendliness! read more

My husband and I are always looking for restaurants near us that we haven't tried yet, and what a find this place is! It's tucked away in a corner of a strip mall, but just look for the large red awning over in the corner. They have a gorgeous patio overlooking a lake, and it was a nice evening so we sat outside. Service was prompt and friendly. The ambiance was absolutely lovely, and the view of that pretty little lake definitely sets this place apart. I had the Chicken Piccata which was full of subtle flavors and just an absolute treat. I can't wait to go back and try their lasagna, or any of the other delicious-sounding dishes on their menu. I could see this becoming one of our new favorite restaurants, especially when it's nice outside, because you cannot beat this beautiful patio! read more

Came here one random night to get some dinner and you have to look for this place to find it. I got a salad and pasta. The salad was just a regular basic salad nothing special. I also got the chicken Alfredo pasta. The chicken was a bit squishy but the Alfredo sauce was good. The staff was friendly and super fast so that was a bonus. read more

TL:DR at the end. 6:00pm: 10 party table. Everyone arrived within a few minutes either way of the reservation time, and the table was ready a few minutes early. We chatted, and a drink order was given, and drinks came fairly quickly. We had menus, and appetizer was ordered about 6:20pm arriving about 20 minutes later. We ordered food somewhere between the two. 7:30pm: 50 minutes after the appetizers were delivered, the plates had long been cleared, and we didn't have food. I had ordered tea... but at this point, it was long since empty, and I had just flagged my waitress for a refill. 7:40pm: Food started to arrive. One of the parties noted that the plate in front of him was not what he had ordered, and a minor argument with the waitress resulted in him being told he was wrong. He gave in, and the rest of the food was distributed, except that two plates had not arrived. Nothing was said by the waitress, so the party waited nicely, but after a few minutes, it was agreed to start, and the last two would catch up. I was one, and I eat fast, so I wasn't concerned. About 5 minutes later, my dish arrived, along with the last person's dish. 7:45pm: I immediately noticed that my plate was nearly too hot to touch on one side, and lower than room temp (slightly chilled) on the other side. Later, my wife confirmed a similar problem. My other neighbor (the other late dish), noted that he didn't get the correct item, but didn't care. I took a bite of my fettuccine alfredo, and it seemed bitter like rancid almonds, but unclear due to no other off tastes. I cleansed my palate with some of my wife's water (half empty, no refills yet), and tried again, but was hit with the same bitterness. I flagged the waitress and sent it back with a request to change to the butternut squash ravioli's (presuming as a simpler dish to expedite). Later, one of the party, who did not complete their dish, offered me a few bites. 8:05pm: My tea refill arrived. 8:20pm: Everyone had finished eating. The waitress came by and asked about take-out boxes from the other end of the table and arrived to me, stating "just a short while longer". I told her to just cancel my order, as I wasn't going to hold up our group. 8:25pm: The checks arrived... and my total still had me paying for the botched fettuccine. I had to send that back for resolution. A few minutes later, that was corrected, and sent back for charges. 8:45pm: The party wrapped up and left. In the entire time (2:45), there were zero apologies, and just a few OKs as I expressed requests to address concerns. There was no indication that the kitchen expedited to replace a bad dish. There was never an appearance from a manager. 9:00pm: I arrived home and made myself a quick dinner... TL:DR - 3 of 10 entrees had problems; one was inappropriately bitter, one was incorrect, and one was suspected incorrect. Some plates were hot on one side, but cold on the other. Service was slow, meal was slow, one refill after empty glass for well over one hour, and being charged for a cancelled dish... all with zero apologies. read more

WE WON'T BE BACK. Did you hear that? WE WON'T BE BACK. We were here in January for the first time and it was a good experience. Fast forward to the evening of 9/25/24 and the subject of this disappointing dinner. Part of 5. I made a reservation at noon that day but when we arrived at 6 pm, there was no reservation. Things went downhill from there. We waited about 20 minutes to order. No water was offered. Our food didn't arrive for approximately 40 minutes. My husband received his steak cold. My fish was lukewarm and the broccoli was missing. I immediately called this to the server's attention, waiting another 10 - 15 for the broccoli, with my fish going from lukewarm to cold as I nibbled at it. Broccoli finally arrived - COLD. Like REALLY cold. The server didn't reappear again for quite awhile- 10 minutes or so - to ask how everything tasted and I told her the broccoli was cold but since we were almost done eating, I asked her to take the broccoli off the tab. She said she couldn't do that, as there wasn't a charge for the broccoli. I said of course there was a charge, whether stated or not, because I sure didn't get it for free and management could figure it out. She said she'd run it up the chain of command (my words) and left. We spent 45 minutes waiting for the bill. The excuse was that the broccoli situation hadn't been figured out yet. Meanwhile....... A couple at the next table had some of the same issues that evening: cold veggies, a very long wait for the bill, etc. They were very tempted to leave without paying, as were the five of us. When you have to stand up and go over to the bar to try to pay the tab, that's downright ridiculous. Where was management during all of this? Wonderful dining experience. The atmosphere out on the covered lakeside patio is a 5 out of 5. The wait staff is an 5+ out of 5..Halle was amazing! She was very accommodating to our large group. Food is the only thing that brings the score down to an overall 4 out 5 but by no means was the food bad but I have 2 Italian Grandmothers so going out for Italian typically leaves me disappointed. This wasn't disappointing but it wasn't Grandma's cooking. They have a good menu including Italian classics and some more American items. I'd recommend the Cajun pasta with a dinner salad. Overall, I would recommend this spot to anyone whether looking for a nice date night on the patio, a group dinner or drinks in the bar. read more

First of all I want to start this by saying this review is fair and accurate. You can see by my reviews that I am very fair and consistent when I rate a restaurant. My wife and I have been here several times over the years but not top of mind when we eat out. We decided tonight to go to Massa's to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful night. The problem started when we waited at the hostess stand for over 5 minutes( she came over several times and apologized for our wait) but we weren't sure why we were waiting so long. When we got sat the waitress came over and took our drink order. She brought the drinks at 7:15 pm and took our order. We finally received our food at 8:26 pm, another round of drinks later. The place wasn't that busy so I'm not sure what happened. Whatever it was a nice night so we weren't totally pissed YET! I asked the waitress for parmesan cheese and some napkins for my pizza. 10 minutes later and neither item showing up, I went inside to get them myself. I stood at the bar for over 5 minutes without anyone looking my direction. By this time I was very pissed as my pizza was getting colder by the minute. I found what I thought was a manager ( she had talked to several tables outside without giving them product). I said can I please get some parmesan cheese, she huffed and walked over and handed me a bowl with cheese in it. I grabbed napkins myself and went out to eat my cold pizza( my wife was done eating ). I'm not sure what happened here as I counted probably 10 tables outside with guest, and the inside wasn't that busy. My wife and I eat out at least 5 nights a week, avg bill 60.00 with drinks. We WILL not be back, and I'm serious. Too many choices out there. Customer service is a lost art out there!!!!!! read more

We came as a party of 3, myself and two friends. We got drinks and fried pickles, to start. The drinks were great, the pickles came out quickly. I ordered a Ceasar salad with chicken and added tomatoes. It was wonderful. No dressing, as requested.i asked for wing sauce, instead. They allowed with a 50 cent charge, which I expected. Although, it is a substitute, not an extra. My friends split a Buffalo chicken pizza and two side salads. They loooved the pizza. The salads were good for them. They liked the cheese. Everything I have ordered has been great. I now consider this place my go to place for food. I have had the Italian salad-wonderful (try it with red wine vinaigrette), Blackened Chicken sandwich- with cheese and bacon on top- perhaps my favorite, Baked Mostaccioli Pasta was good and steaming hot, the st. louis style pizza was to my liking (they gave me extra cheese on the side to put on top). it is a sit down experience, enjoy your time to talk, it is not a fast drive-thru, it is a classic sit down restaurant, expect some wait time. read more

Anyone thinking Massa's is an Italian eatery is wrong. As is anyone thinking this is fine dining, a sports bar, a pizza place, or fast casual. Sure, it has elements of each of those but not enough of any one for easy categorization...beyond casual. And a bit wild. Wild like the crazy aunt you can't make up your mind about whether she's entertainingly eccentric or out and out Looneytunes. This is a casual place for casual dining. The eccentric side is the large patio with as much seating as the inside (in Missouri's highly volatile weather?). It's shaded for summer and has heaters against chills. Inside is Looneytunes. The decor includes red velvet curtains on brass rods, the same cheap looking aluminum chairs Arby's uses except with seat pads, restrooms accessed through the bar (literally, you cross through the bar and pass bartenders and servers ringing up diners' cards), and furnishings that don't look as much assembled as cast off from rummage sales. ("Honey, nobody bought those four-foot goat horns or whatever they are." "Antelope. Okay, give them to Massa's.") We ordered pizza for dinner. We could have had pastas or burgers or deli sandwiches or salads or seafood or any of a large selection of meat or chicken entrees. See what I mean about Massa's lacking an identity? The pizza crust was crispy and cracker thin but it wasn't a St. Louis style pie. That's not criticism. We enjoyed Mozzarella cheese and wedge slices rather than Provel and squares. Ingredients all tasted top quality. Service was a bit spotty. For example, the pie arrived with a "Here's your pizza" and a quick heel turn before we could say "Could we have some plates?" After a minute or two we pointed out the omission to a passing staffer and the plates arrived quickly. Massa's also has a small dessert menu. Our first time at the Winghaven location, as have been going to the (now closed) Town & Country, New Town and The Old Place for decades. The location is lovely. Sadly, the hanging baskets (all mismatched) and planters were mostly dried brown stalks with weeds ... it was only June. The Purple Martin house was crooked and looked ready to topple to the ground at any time. The view of Mastercard complex is the only reason for 3 stars instead of 2. We had to go outside, as the entertainment band was so loud, not even the hostess could hear us without communicating by pointing. Once outside, the tables were covered with pollen, blown dirt and bird droppings. The alcoholic beverages were mostly out of stock. Those we finally did receive (the beer took three attempts) were warm, weak and late. Our waitress was serving inside as well as outside tables. We would not see her for 15-20 minutes at a time. Our visit was nearly two hours of waiting for subpar food and drinks. Our entrees were not up to Massa's standards. The pizza had charcoal bits of burned crusts cooked into it and chunks on the pan. The bacon had little sticks pointing out of like I have never seen. The Chicken Bianca was dreadful. One salvageable sprig of broccoli, exactly three and half mushrooms with very little, tepid, flavorless sauce. Yukon potatoes? Keep them in Alaska; they were as cold as if brought to my plate from the state. Last night, we returned to the New Town location to receive our beloved friendly and fast service of food, drinks and light conversation. One ice cold beer and mixed drink [I made a special request] arrived with a smile and a basket of bread with butter. Before I could eat a second piece of bread, our food arrived at the table. The pizza had the signature thin, crisp crust without charcoal. The cheese was a creamy blanket of yumminess over the toppings, instead of a red-rimmed crust with tossed bacon and sausage that was barely covered with a few strands of cheese in the center. My Chicken Bolo was perfection: a layer of sauce, perfectly breaded, cooked, tender seasoned chicken covered with florets of broccoli, topped with steamy, melting cheese. Impeccable on each count at New Town, all in under 50 minutes from my vehicle and back to it. read more

Been going to Massa's for many years and plan to continue. Love the atmosphere, friendly staff and especially the food. My husband and I are huge fans of the original location and went out to eat here for our anniversary dinner. The hostess ignored us (was talking to a table of people but clearly saw us). We were eventually seated by someone bussing tables. They didn't have the appetizer or wine that we ordered off the menu. My husband's Cajun pasta came out bright red and we realized it was drenched in what tasted like Frank's hot sauce (no Cajun flavor). I ordered the Tutte Mare, and not only was there hardly any seafood in it, but the seafood that was there was small, rubbery, and obviously previously frozen. The noodles hardly had any flavor. This was always my go to dish at Massa's. :( Neither of us could finish the food and we definitely didn't take it home. We will stick to the original location off Lindbergh Blvd. from now on. Told we are up next, whatever that means. 8:15 food began to arrive. 90% accurate. Asked Mgrs for some compensation on our $396.00 bill or a gift card for my local family to use in the future. NOTHING DOING. Claims they asked the owner and was told NO. Was offered a free dessert which I declined. Glad I live in Texas. Thanks for a not so great experience on fathers 96 bday. I made the mistake of trusting the google reviews and not checking yelp and took some friends from out of town- the food is fine. Nothing outstanding but everything lacked flavor- the service was lacking. Our food took an hour to arrive after ordering. We watched the table next to us receive their food slowly over that hour of waiting. So one person finished at the last person received their food. It seems to be family run (which I love to support) but could definitely use a bump up in the seasoning and flavor category! read more

Will never return! Took out of town company to Winghaven Massa's this evening. Not clean. Newer server but she was very inexperienced with basic drinks and pronunciation. The food was sub par..3 ordered chicken recipes.. the chicken breasts were like thick clumps just thrown in, unprepared! The broccoli was not prepped..huge clump! The red bolognese sauce was poor...not Italian tasting. OMG ..they only offer 2 desserts: brownies and gooey butter..they tasted like 99 cent box brownies..fell apart..and the gooey butter was thin and not st.louis style. What a waste! Smokers on patio affected our table as well. Will never go here again!!! Atmosphere was not good..not very cleanly. Tried to make reservation and they do not even answer their phone and don't care! I recently had to make a very last minute bulk order and Tony and the team were a breeze to work with. Even provided serving dishes and supplies we needed. All the guests greatly enjoyed the food and due to the great assistance everyone got plenty to eat and food was hot. They had everything ready right when we needed it too.
