Compared to 6 years ago when I was here this experience was a lot better. Waiter Brian was awesome. Helpful when asked about his favorite food and drink options. 3 kids with us, he helped us entertain them by bringing deck games to them on a slow Sunday evening. The live entertainment on a Sunday was a nice touch especially since they close at 9pm. Within 90 minutes we were able to eat and relax. Didn't feel rushed. Kids meals are conveniently priced at 5.50-7.00 but they do not include a drink and they charge 4.95 for juice so the actual price you're paying for a frozen food kids meal is 10.45-11.95. So every year we come to the resort and meanwhile my boyfriend and i had stayed in the condo (or whatever you call it) and when my mom,her friend and my brother went here I was sent pictures and was told the atmosphere is great and then their food was great. so my boyfriend and I had told her to bring home food for us he got the Mountain Burger (first picture) and mine was the Base Camp Burger (the rest of the pictures). my boyfriend has ate his and everything was fine but then I went to go eat mine and he told me it looked a lot more pink then his and so as I looked and started to investigate. I ran my finger over the burger and it had the feeling of a raw burger someone slapped on the grill for 30 seconds until it was brown then took it off. This place is great! The staff is friendly and the food came quickly. We ate there twice during the week we visited. The first time, I had the bratwurst soup and Mediterranean pasta. It was delicious. We ordered it to go and it was still hot when we got back to the rental. My only complaint is the second time we ate there, I got the sesame tuna over spinach. It was very bland and not worth the price. I would add more seasoning to the tuna like garlic, salt, and ginger. I was disappointed after the first meal. Another suggestion is the have more fans in the inside portion of the restaurant. It felt like a greenhouse in there! I will definitely be back again when we visit again. We have visited Massanutten Resort and Base Camp at least 5 times during this pandemic. Base Camp is always a first choice for us due to the environment and always delightful live music. The food is average and meets our needs. The staff has faced the same terrible shortage of help as all food establishments due to the pandemic. These folks are determined to do their very best jobs possible under these extremely short staffing situations and will always get my business and generous tips. I could never do their job under the best of conditions let alone more and I do admire them. Thuse that are not patient and do not give grace during these hard times May wish to cook in your unit As most local restaurants are I. The exact same situation. Joe , who answered the phone promptly, stated we could come in and get a table right away. We were so glad that he told us that because we thought we would be required to reserve a table. There was a line when we arrived but we didn't mind waiting because it moved very quickly. Our server Keagen (spelling?) was fantastic. We came here at least 3 times since we were at the resort. Service was pretty good no matter what time of day! I love how even In the winter this restaurant stays nice and toasty. This little spot is located right at the base of the the ski slopes and is super close to the hotels. Favorite menu item: Prime rib sandwich. This is hands down the best thing on the menu. The steak is soooo juicy and onion strings set any sandwich off for me! Least favorite menu item: Steak pasta. This was a Cajun dusted sirloin tossed in creamy Gouda sauce. Sounds amazing right? Eh, not really. Sirloin was cut into 4 pieces with no hint of Cajun at all and the pasta just tasted like a white Mac and cheese. All in all, above average restaurant. read more

The location, atmosphere, and service all deserve higher than one star- BUT the food was a joke. My wife had the Grilled Veggie Pasta. It was suppose to be skewers if grilled veggies on Pasta with a creamy garlic sauce. When it came out, it was two skewers with Zucchinni, red onion, and green peppers. At $15 we were expecting four to five skewers of veggies. The skewers looked like the had been cut in half. There were literally only 4-5 pieces of zucchini on them. Basically, for $15 you are getting a huge bowl of pasta with sauce straight from a can with a couple pieces of veggies on a stick. Not worth $15. I had the Prime Rib Special that came with asparagus and potatoes. Let's start with the potatoes. They were hard on the outside and almost nothing in the middle- as if they've been leftover from the day before and reheated. They were not fresh. There was six pieces of asparagus. I requested the prime rib be cooked to medium. It was beyond well-done. That was evident before even cutting into it. Visited Base Camp for the first time last night. What can I say? It was mediocre at best. It wasn't a busy Sunday evening. Yet, the service was slow, inattentive, and the food was just out right garbage. Except the loaded mash. That was the only thing worth eating. We both got their "Prime Rib". She got a 8oz and I got the queen cut. Both Med Rare. It's sad when they came out looking like a skirt steak and a over cooked Ribeye. I'll attach some photos. I was very disappointed. This was the first place we tried on our short stay at Massanutten. Unfortunately, it rained our entire stay. This place place is really cool set up. Huge outdoor seating with indoor/outdoor bars. We are owners at Massanutten, and have been coming for years and have always enjoyed our dining experiences. Tonight was a new low! I ordered the grilled salmon, which was described as; Grilled Salmon With smoked Gouda cream sauce and shiitake mushrooms. What I received was a piece of salmon that looked like it was dropped on the floor and then served to me. There was asparagus that was so old that is was wrinkled and desiccated, and the rice was cold. The kicker....no sauce what so ever, none. Our waiter put this mess down in front of me to eat. I sent it back. I got a French Dip instead, thinking it was fool-proof, (only if it's served warm). Our waiter clearly left it sitting at least 15 minutes before serving it (cold fries, cold sandwich). I ate less than half. After all of that, what did Base Camp do to make it right???? Not a single solitary thing, nothing, zilch, zero. SHAME ON BASE CAMP! We come once a year and generally spend $1,000 during our week, to be treated this way is beyond belief. The staff was friendly but very slow and our waitress disappeared often. We had to find her to ask for refills for drinks as they were never offered. We waited over an hour for our food and all of the food came out cold with the exception of one meal. We only sent one thing back because it was the worst (supposed to be a grilled cheese but came out as a cold cheese sandwich with no melted cheese) and we didn't want to have to wait another hour. None of our food was very good but we ate it and tried to make the best of a bad situation. On Friday night they would not take reservations and when we got there the first thing the nice hostess asked did we have a reservation. After we were seated a food runner brought fries we did not order. The first appatister was very good the second such was not the case I ordered it no onions and was served with onions I tried to talk talk to the manager but he wasn't much help. The next night was really bad we had reservation but not good after trying to talk to the kitchen manager no front of house manager was not though after talking to him he said I complain the night before and they did not charge for the wrong food and was told to leave and he would not serve us food and made to leave and the resort has no manager working on the weekends read more

We came from Montgomery County Maryland for the day to go on the chairlift. It was a beautiful day and the first weekend the resort was open. We were so impressed with how clean the facilities were and Covid conscience they were. We are a very strict quarantine followers and are vigilant about going to places we see as healthy. Massanutten and the restaurant has sanitizer everywhere and ALL the staff wore masks. The outdoor seating was spaced far apart for perfect social distancing, The entire staff was on board and ready to help. The food and cocktails were great - the grilled cheese and soup was perfect! I would actually give this negative stars or zero. The musics was great which is the only nice thing we have to say. After being seated without menus for 35 minutes our fire pit table was finally lit. We waited about an hour before they took our order. We had already checked the menu and knew what we wanted. After another hour of waiting for our food because our appetizers never came. Our food was cold and not prepared the way we had asked.
