I love the ambience at base camp. They have live music and dj played music in the evening which is a lot of fun. Our Airbnb was close to the base camp so we could hear hits being played which was fun too. We went here for food after doing the scenic chair lift ride and a hike. The service was very friendly but the food was mid tier. We got the buttermilk chicken sandwich and the beef tacos to share. The chicken sandwich came with fries and was great. The beef tacos were not good. They tasted like they were made with the El Paso seasoning packet which is very basic and not flavorful. The tacos also came with cilantro lime rice which had zero flavor so we won't be reordering this if we return. You kind of have to rely on this place if you go during the day since they are the only ones open nearby until 4 pm when all the other restaurants open read more

This restaurant is conveniently close to the ski lifts. From what I saw, there were 2 areas to eat: one that you can see the people skiing that is round shaped and a few steps away an area where you can also eat from their menu with less windows and some sofas and tables. It is pretty casual and you can have a meal or just enjoy a drink or two. My party ordered the Trash Can Nachos. That was a cool way to get your meal. It comes inside a family size can and they tip it onto your plate and take the can away. It was good. It had plenty of chips. Be sure to mix the cheese well. It was the biggest plate from all the things we ordered. Someone ordered the Beltway 1/2 Smoke with fries. The fries were not seasoned kinda bland. Sausage was good. Someone ordered the Bulgogi Tacos with crispy chicken. They said it was delicious except for the cilantro lime rice. There was no cilantro nor lime taste. She was disappointed the rice had no flavor. The star of today's visit was the Cowboy Slopeside Brisket Sandwich. The brisket and Cole slaw were both amazing. This is coming from a picky eater. He was impressed. None of the burgers ordered (6 people) were cooked to order properly. The side of rice and black beans were horrible...ice cold white rice with a very few black beans mixed in. The burger patty was obviously a frozen one and cooked well done (ordered medium rare). Very greasy and slightly cold. I had bacon and cheese added. The bacon looked like it was artificial and the cheese so thin you could see through it. My friends said that their potatoes were cold and greasy. This is the second time we have eaten here and the first time was bad as well. I guess that we should have learned our lesson the first time. One star is generous... We had lunch and dinner at base camp, mainly because it was only restaurant open. Seating is outdoor and umbrellas over table do not block sun At lunch We seated ourselves because no one was around. I had to go into the bar to get menus. Our server finally showed up and took our drink order. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi bowl. The food was not hot, but luke-warm at best. It did taste good, but would have been better hot. Our server was very helpful and did a good job. For the evening meal, they had a buffet. All, but the mac & cheese was not hot. The meat was very dry, as well as the cornbread. They did not have much on the buffet; pulled pork, bbq chicken, collard greens, mac-n-cheese, cornbread, pepper slaw and some kind of odd salad. The drinks at the basecamp are spot on and really better than would be expected at a resort in the Shenandoah area. Food was well prepared It did not excite but met all requirements. The service was excellent. I think the young lady, Caitlyn, went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. The atmosphere, good lord it can't be beat. Was there table service here? No one knows. Saw some tables with cheques so we sat down. No server ever came or was seen anywhere. Ended up getting an ice-filled terrible overpriced lemonade from the bar, gross ramen with chicken that was literally gray and tasted like nothing from downstairs and two burgers and fries from the cafeteria. The ramen situation was really foul. They charge $1.50 for an overcooked hardboiled egg. Broth lacked salt. There was maybe one bamboo shoot shred with clumpy ramen for $16. We were hoping to like this place. It was our first time, although we've been owners at Massanutten for almost 5 years. We've always explored the surrounding area eats but this week we didn't want to leave the resort. We were excited to order what we did - deep dish pizza, calamari, the nachos and the summer salad (not pictured). As you can see in the pic, this was no deep dish pizza. In fact, it was a thin crust pizza! Brought that up with our server, who never showed us he was interested in being there until he gave us our check and it was time to sign on the dotted line. All he said was, we're not the first to ask about it. We then said, maybe he can share with management, and he said "oh they know". ‍ Uhhh ok, well time to change that menu! Trash can nachos had big chunks of poorly seasoned ground beef. It looked appetizing but it was bland and the melted cheese were stuck in the can and hardly any were on the chips. The fried calamari was the only thing we enjoyed. It was well seasoned, but as you can see in the pic, there's like 9 pieces Lastly, the summer salad was a Waldorf salad dupe. It was not a good mix. Why was there grilled onions with the raspberries? Yikes. Lesson learned. We won't return to this place. We tried the other resto the following evening (Campfire Grill) and enjoyed that one by a huge leap. read more

While staying at Massanutten resorts, we decided to pickup some food for our toddler. I can't begin to explain how disappointed I was with the food we got from Base Camp. How can anyone mess up grilled cheese and fries is beyond me. The food was tasteless. I would definitely not come back here, but the place was full, so I am hoping the rest of the food they serve might be good. In spite of the food disaster, I would recommend this place for its entertainment and vibe. They had live musicians who really kept the crowd engaged, and many people were dancing on the dance floor, including my little one. Such a cute place to find! Located on the massanutten resort, this spot stood out at the top with it's heated tents and full bar! We stopped in here for a bite and was glad to be in the warmth while we got fun cocktails and snacks. Didn't have a good experience. The wait was very long and they didn't take reservations. Later and larger parties were seated after we walked up. Lot of high top seating compounded the problem. Food was served buffet style. The barbecue was done on barrel pit with flames a blazing. The chicken was therefore charred on the outside and pink/bloody on the inside. We've been here several times since moving to Massanutten Resort. We have always found the found to be very good and likewise the cocktails. The service can be spotty. When we once sat outdoors our server was excellent and attentive. On another night the weather didn't cooperate for outdoor dining and music, so they moved the event inside. They boost this place a star, as they are great. But Poor food, poor service. (The Monday bbq buffet looked good but we didn't want burgers, dogs & chicken. We dined in with menu options) This is not our 1st time here. 4th time vacationing here. Always give Base Camp a shot. Had good experience 2 winters ago. Went in with the understanding under new corona regulations service would be slower. But 1.5 hours to get 5 uncomplicated meals is way too long. First, if you are coming here make a reservation or you likely will have to wait a long while. We had reservation, and hostess said oh yeah I just saw yours now, it will be a little bit. It was fine, we got table fairly quickly. They removed the best appetizer from the summer menu, the jelly jar bacon. It's all I was looking forward to. Bavarian pretzel is good app choice. Asked for a cheese sauce to go with it. It tasted good but water like consistency. We had waited so long to get it, didn't want to complain. Drinks came quickly except my beer. That took a half hour, and the bar wasn't crowded at all. Dinners took 1.5 hours to get to us. They were ok. NY Strip at "market price" was poor, flimsy cut. I ordered smoked turkey leg appetizer. Looked and smelled delicious! Needed a steak knife to cut it. Like they microwaved it. Skin was so tough, some was inedible. My daughter got steakhouse salad, barely had any of the toppings it boasted. Barely bacon, had to ask for avocado as she got one tiny piece. My husband ate all his wings. They were good, not great. Pasta dish was the best of what we had, it was decent. By the time the waiter asked if we wanted dessert we just wanted to get out of there. Overall, not a good experience. Really enjoyed the view. Will definitely be back for drinks and music on Friday or Saturday night. Totally a let down for a meal. I will say the Monday all u can BBQ buffet was a great value $15. There is very little positive to say about this restaurant. The staff is rude and the food is awful. We ended up here due to proximity; we needed to eat while staying at the resort. The burgers were inedible, the steak was all fat, and the pizza was disgusting. The only saving Grace of the meal was the pretzel. I'd recommend trying any other restaurant if possible, but if not, I guess order a water and the pretzel? read more

My husband and I stayed at Massanutten for a week and ended up at Base Camp several times. They are closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sunday nights they have a great guy that performs live music starting at 7p. Get there early as there was a wait when we left at 8p. Monday from 5p-7p is all you can eat BBQ, which includes chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, red sauce pasta salad, cole slaw, potato chips and your choice of tea or lemonade for $15. Wednesday is Wine Down Wednesdays starting at 6p which includes $3.50 glasses of wine or a flight of 4 one ounce pours for $6. Worth noting that there is an outdoor concert next to the restaurant once each month and they charge you a $15 cover charge to get into the restaurant, even if you are just there for dinner and have no interest in the music. We have been coming here for over 15 years and service In all of the resort restaurants was always good. When you are staying on the mountain, it's one of the few options to pick from. The main goal is to be relaxed and not in a hurry. The recent bad reviews regarding service and seating is due to the pandemic. They are suffering like all other restaurants. We came here at least 3 times since we were at the resort. Service was pretty good no matter what time of day! I love how even In the winter this restaurant stays nice and toasty. This little spot is located right at the base of the the ski slopes and is super close to the hotels. Favorite menu item: Prime rib sandwich. This is hands down the best thing on the menu. The steak is soooo juicy and onion strings set any sandwich off for me! Least favorite menu item: Steak pasta. This was a Cajun dusted sirloin tossed in creamy Gouda sauce. Sounds amazing right? The $15 appetizer calamari came out cold, the waitress was kind enough to get another out but I've never had calamari with cheese over the top. Needless to say it wasn't eaten.
