The food is good but not great. The day I went the whole place was filled with flies and mosquitos so make sure you spray big spray and bring extra! The drinks however were amazing and the server we had was delightful! The only reason they are getting this high rating instead of two stars is because they have great drinks and such a friendly staff. I would not recommend eating the all-you-can-eat buffet here on Thursday's. The food was cooked in a huge grill covered in flies! The cold foods were sitting in melted ice buckets and breads were just sitting outside in the open as flies landed all over them... We went there for lunch yesterday. I have a lot of food allergies and the chef came to answer my questions. The duck, which is made lovingly from scratch, was amazing. We ended up going back for lunch today and had great service from Wes and more questions answered by Chef Kevin. We had another great meal and would definitely go back. This was probably the best highlight of our trip. If you want amazing food, service, and amazing scenery I would recommend coming here! We loved the food- fries were amazing, so were the burgers, baked beans, macaroni salad, hotdogs, and BBQ chicken at the cookout. It was a $90 dinner for two served on plastic plates which was not the best value but it was slopeside. I was hoping for some pasta dishes but none were available. Service was really good, but the food was probably some of the worst I've ever gotten from a restaurant. Ordered the Cajun shrimp pasta and was pretty upset with everything about it. We ate here while staying at my in laws timeshare. The tables are small due to the space, but with 5 of us it was tight. They had unique menu items (shrimp & grits egg rolls as an example) which was fun to try. The food was just ok, but we thought it was a but pricey. We stopped in for lunch after a hot day of hiking. There was no cool place to sit. It took at least 15 minutes to get our drinks. The server didn't know what the soup of the day was or how much extra it was to add chicken to a salad. The strawberry lemonade, without alcohol, was $6 with no refills. We decided to try Base Camp on a 85° summer day, so obviously it was hot. That's to be expected with outdoor seating. We didn't order drinks but there is a large alcohol menu. I had a ciabatta chicken sandwich which I thought was very good. My partner got some sort of chicken and vegetable kabab, which he was not impressed with. He said the chicken was too dry. I think it was priced a little too high for the food we received, but it is on a tourist attraction.I would probably go back but only if it was a milder temperature outside. read more

"The Deck" at the Base Camp was a Summertime surprise! Weekends offer live music. Relaxed atmosphere with good food. We've eaten here twice SO FAR this week! The Caprise Pizza on flatbread is an excellent choice as an appetizer. Shrimp and grits were very good. We'll definitely be back. read more

It is our last night at the resort and we decided to eat at the new Base Camp outdoor restaurant. Our server Jenn was awesome! She kept good tabs on our needs. We started with two orders of Jalapeno Snake Bites (poppers) that were excellent! Food was good but the Mountain Burger I ordered was a tad overdone (ordered medium and got well done). No biggie since the burger was otherwise delicious. My wife got the Mushroom Avocado Burger which was good but it too was a bit overdone. It was Friday night so they had live music. This place is in the middle of a ski area and there is no central heating. They have plastic utensils and the restrooms are located in the other building. The cups are plastic and small. The basket of fries appetizer tasted okay at best and they bring your food from the kitchen, OUTSIDE, and finally to the main area where you're seated. Our service is inconsistent and the waiter seems too relaxed and not moving with a purpose this is all before the food has arrived. Our server brought the wrong food to the table and not all of the food arrived at the same time. The tacos are not good at all. The meat is dry and the beans just as unflavored as the rice. When we told our server that one meal had not arrived he replied "yes" before saying random orders from his book. when he could not remember the order we told him the burger and he replied "oh, forgot to ring it in" then left to put the order in the system. when asking if they could take the unwanted food away the server left it and then returned moments later before asking why it was bad. I told him the food was very bland and he spoke back replying because I ordered it like that. I asked for the corn to be removed but he said that the tomatoes and cilantro would have to go as well since it is mixed. I said okay. The food should still taste fine when something is removed. We liked how easily this restaurant brought people inside for cover when it started raining, yet didn't miss a beat on our meal. They made my special needs son an "off the menu" meal and understood he was having trouble choosing. I had the taco trio of shrimp, pork and chicken. The shrimp and pork were incredible! Service is very good, the servers are all happy and friendly. Massanutten mosaic wine is delicious but skip the specialty frozen mixed drinks. Yelp led us astray with this one. If you are just going for a drink on the deck, you'll probably be fine but don't be fooled into thinking you'll get good food or good service here. We had a group of four and two hated the food, one thought their salad was good but it was way too tiny to be considered an entree and one person was satisfied with their meal of shrimp and grits. The macaroni and cheese is flavorless. If you order it with shrimp they lay 3 limp pieces on top. Everything is served in cheap plastic dishes. The waitress seemed thoroughly put out that we were there and we felt her ire every time we needed to ask for something. And for the small portions of bad to mediocre food? We got the honor of paying $60 per couple for one entree and drink a piece. I know resort prices tend to be higher but this was ridiculous for a meal that left us hungry and annoyed. There are great local restaurants within a few minutes of the resort. Do yourself a favor and don't settle for this. read more

Had the most amazing time at Base Camp on Wine down Wednesday. Our server, Toliver knew just what beers to recommend to my husband. They were busy but he was quick and very friendly. The manager came out to make sure we were having a good experience and that everything was perfect. Made that night of our vacation a memorable one for sure. We just got back from a Labor Day weekend getaway at Massanutten. Ate at Base Camp a couple times. Beautiful setting but food was sub par. However, the wings were outstanding for sure.
