I have been a massage envy member for 11 years. Oxnard is the worst managed location of the four I have visited. Front office staff is not consistent with customer service offered by other locations. They don't have any and should take training from another location, such as Ventura. I was laughed at AND charged for a recent traumatic experience I had on my last visit, regardless of what occurred. Efforts to reach the franchisor were blocked. After 11 years, I will be cancelling my membership this month. read more

So irritated with massage envy Oxnard. Being a single mother of a one year old my time is very limited. Made an appointment online, screenshotted my online receipt and went into my appointment a couple hours later. Check in and they tell me they don't have my appointment down and someone else has the time slot!! I'm confused at this point staring at MY receipt saying I HAD the appointment. The girl working the counter tells me there's an appointment at 9PM so I took it hoping I could get ANOTHER sitter after I already had gotten one for this nonexistent "appointment". I couldn't end up going so they charged 100% of my $50 gift card. Not telling me that they would if I didn't show up. I obviously wouldn't have took the time slot if i knew they would charge my whole gift card. So now I have no gift card & no massage. Thank you massage envy! read more

This is the worst company to schedule a massage. They are severely understaffed and when you want to cancel an appointment that was forcibly scheduled 2-3 weeks in advance they charge you half the price for cancelation. I have 2 freaking gift cards that I don't know what to do with because they've upset me. This is not the first time I tried to schedule with them. The first official time they canceled with me because the masseuse just didn't show up. I rescheduled with them then I needed to cancel with them and they tried to charge me a cancelation fee. I had to send it to upper management because it seem ridiculous to me that they could cancel me but I couldn't cancel them without repercussions. read more

I received a gift card for Christmas and scheduled a last minute appointment a couple hours beforehand. I immediately called back because I had an emergency at work and needed to reschedule. They told me half my gift card would be charged for a no show and I couldn't cancel. I tried running in first and filling out my paperwork, ran to work and tried to get back in time for my massage. I showed up 45 minutes late and expressed my apologies to the massage therapist and stated I really did everything I could. I asked for them to not charge me this one time. They said no. I am in customer service and I am astounded at how poor their service is. I tried so hard to make it work and they would not even consider. I will not ever use a massage envy again. I informed my friends and family of this disgusting customer service and they are all infuriated and have refused to ever get a service here again. Try any other massage parlor in the area. This is the opposite of a gift. This establishment does not deserve any of your money. read more

I was ready to increase their stars if Massage Envy rectified things, but.... on Monday, corporate Massage Envy responded only to say that they've referred my concerns back to the local franchise (huh? thanks for the help!) On Wednesday, I wrote back to corporare advising them I had yet to be contacted for follow-up. It's now Friday and I still have yet to be contacted by anyone - corporate or local - to work towards a resolution. So here's the deal. My regular masseuse here gets 5 stars, she is incredible. The overall place is a 1-2 for numerous reasons. I've been a member for over a year (because I love my regular therapist), but the services are really just ok. Now that monthly membership is $70, it's just not worth it. Aside from the person I usually see, who books well in advance, I've had a lot of mediocre massages where I'm not asked how the pressure is and it's usually not enough for me. The front desk is hit or miss on service. I'd give them a 2-3 overall. Most recently I had my daughter's facial appointment canceled twice within two weeks. The first I was notified the day before, but the second time I received a call 20 minutes before we needed to arrive. While the front desk staff was apologetic, I have yet to hear from a manager about taking any steps rectify the situation. I'm over it, lots of other places to get a better and often cheaper massage. read more

Gave me the wrong time for my appointment called me 30 minutes after the supposedly time they said and told me they've been waiting for me. I'm always precise on my times and I am very punctual. I always arrive 15 mins early to any appointment. I rushed over because they were going to charge me anyway. It was basically a she said he said situation and they weren't willing to work with me. I was very disappointed in getting screwed over on my 90 min massage. I planned for it all day. I did not receive I phone call confirmation either, and the girl that took my appointment seemed new, like she didn't know what she was doing. read more

Worst experience ever. I am 24 weeks pregnant and was super excited when my husband got me a gift card for a prenatal message for my birthday. Who doesn't love a message? I have have several messages and have loved them. I was expecting a spa experience all I have ever had when I have gotten messages, and didn't realize this was not a spa. You get there get undressed and jump up in the bed. No where to rinse off or relax a tad before the message. They didn't tell me that when I schedule the message, but they made sure to let me know I would be charge for showing up late or a no show. She I when I got there they did offer me water and said my appt would start right at 430. It started 10 minutes late, should I have charged them?. The heated bed which they advertise as plus that I didn't know about until I got there was not a plus, especially not for a pregnant woman. That bed was way to hot for me and way to high to get into. I am 5 foot 1 inch and literally had to hop into the bed. Thanks message envy for lowering the bed all the way so this pregnant woman could get in easily. Christine the lady that did the message kept talking, how can you relax when someone keeps talking. I get asking if the pressure is ok but once you ask let it be and let me try to relax and possibly enjoy the torture you did to my body. She had long finger nails they kept digging into me, it was so uncomfortable and very painful. You don't message with finger nails. I was just wanting the message to end. She made my back hurt so much worse then it did when I got there and she kept pinching me on my shoulders and butt region. And it HURT. She used all her might. I asked for light to medium pressure I wanted a relaxing message not a deep tissue message. And she knew what she was doing cause she would said "I'm sorry if the pressure is to hard the prenatal message before you wanted deep tissue and I am on auto pilot" for the most part it felt like she was only rubbing oil/cream on to my body. I said my lower back, legs and feet hurt and she to tortured my lower back, rubbed my legs (which my 6 year old can do) and murdered my feet. She worked on my shoulders too and oh my goodness she would squeeze so hard a pinch like squeeze I am surprised I don't have bruises. I would never go back and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Of course on your way out they try to sell you on every package they have and make sure you leave a tip. I left a tip I am not that mean, but here is another tip for you message envy, make sure your message therapist keep their nails trimmed. And ask your client if they would like the bed heated or not I felt like I was cooking and was so sweaty It made me feel really gross and uncomfortable to have someone rubbing on my sweaty body. I couldn't wait to come home and shower. My shower felt better then your message services which was really just aggressive rubbing. don't waste money. My husband was so kind to get me a gift certificate for xmas. First, I called the Ventura store and couldn't get in, so I tried the Oxnard store and they only had a late night appointment and other than that they were full. I was having such hip issues, I took it. First, I arrived and my first time, you think they would welcome me or something about thank you for coming in - NO. They made me fill out all the paper work, indicated what sort of massage I like and what sort of problems I was having. The gal who massaged me, the first thing she asked me was what can I do for you? Don't they read all the paperwork they give you, I told her and then she asked, what sort of pressure I like. I told her more on the deeper side - her reaction was "Oh no I don't do deep, you will have to reschedule if you want deeper". WTF, first, why didn't the receptionist ask me what sort of massage I wanted in the first place and why do they have people that can't do all types of massages. Go see Christine! She is the only person I will ever go to. I only give 4 stars because I had a massage with Connie once and won't again. Defiantly wasn't as good as Christine. Staff is always super nice and helpful. Very clean and relaxing. Edited to add that Christine was off work for quite some time and the staff called me to notify me she was back! I have been a member of Massage Envy Oxnard for nearly 2 years. I have tried a number of different therapists at this location and have found 2 favorites, Cristobal and Katalina. Both of these therapists are very good at deep tissue massage, which I prefer, and they both actually listen to what areas you want to focus on. It took me a long time to finally find 2 therapists that I like. I suggest to not get your hopes down if you do not find your first visit perfect. Try a few different therapists until you find someone who massages exactly the way that you want. Overall, the Oxnard facility is always clean and the staff is always friendly. I highly recommend this place if you like to have regular massages. read more

So when first got our memberships here over a year ago, everything seemed very good. Neck wraps were offered before the massage, tea was always offered. Well... That all has changed, and front desk help is terrible. They started us in a couples room for awhile and then we showed up for our next appointment with them telling us they had done away with that particular room. We scheduled an appointment for my husband and I two weeks ago, with the surprise that it was not in their system. I did receive a reminder card from them so I plan on talking to their manager. If you plan on getting a membership here....DON'T! Don't say I didn't warn you. Go to a real spa where you don't have soo many problems. read more

I came in for a massage and facial that I booked 3 days earlier in person. When I arrived for my appointment I was asked to fill out more paper work for the facial. I did and then was walked to the waiting room by the manager. The esthetician got me and looked over my paperwork. I was told I couldn't have my facial bc I had a skin tightening laser 3 weeks ago. The "manager" was rude and dismissive....when I asked why if this is a policy I wasn't asked at time of booking, she said we don't ask on the phone, informed her that I was in person, she shrugged. If this is the manager of a spa she should know that glycolic doesn't react with skin tyte. Also if this was the concern, a modified service could have been offered.....or something seeing as I was clearly upset to have my time wasted. When I asked for corporates number she told me they don't have it?? You're trying to tell me that a store doesn't have a number to call if there's a problem??!! Unacceptable. Steer clear of this place and their membership scams. read more

Let me open by saying that the therapists are fantastic. They are the only reason this isn't a 1 star rating. I canceled my membership with them and scheduled my remaining massages. You can only schedule massages for a set amount of time after canceling so I scheduled my remaining massages and thought that would be that. When I went in for my last massage they had to cancel because the therapist was out sick so I resceduled for a week later and asked to talk to the manager about extending my time. The manager never contacted me. When I showed up for my new appointment they canceled again and I again asked to speak to the manager about getting either a refund or rescheduling (Although at this point I don't even want the massage). It has been 3 requests to speak to the manager and a month later and I still have heard nothing even though I paid for this massage. Their receptions also began questioning loudly in the lobby about why I was canceling my membership. I don't appreciate having to say because I can't afford it in front of a group of people. Overall, good therapists, poor customer service, and the management is apparently not available to talk to clients. read more

Went to the collection location today to redeem a gift card. I showed up on time and sat with a receptionist that was rude to begin with. My massage was mediocre if that. The problem areas I indicated on the form were not addressed at all and merely glazed over. It was as if someone was just rubbing in location but with no technique. When asked how my massage went and if I wanted a membership I informed the front desk that I would consider if I found a masseuse that I liked. When asked why I told them my concerns and they got offensive like it was my fault that I didn't ask for a deep tissue when I marked medium to deep on the form. The masseuse was very nice just not a good for but the front desk staff was ridiculous, unprofessional and inappropriate. I still have money on my gift card and still will not return to this place. read more

Wish I could leave zero stars. Went to this location as a birthday present from my husband to get a facial and a massage. The massage and facial I received were excellent - that wasn't the problem. The problem started when I went to leave. I was essentially harassed into signing up for a 3 month membership. After saying no a few times, I eventually said yes so that I could just leave - BIG MISTAKE. I tried to cancel the next day, but was told it is impossible. Okay, so I go for my next month massage that I am now forced to get and pay for. Fast forward, I got a new debit card and forgot to tell then my new card Information. Never received a phone call from them, zero communication until today - when I received a collections letter in the mail for $280!! I call and am told that this figure is incorrect, that I owe them $140 (which is actually an accurate figure of what I should owe, not $280?!). I can't understand why it would escalate to the point of threatening my credit with no communication in between? I guess I'm forced to get these last 2 massages , unless I want my credit ruined. I would not recommend the headache. Take your money elsewhere, unless you feel like being brow-beat into purchasing additional services you may not want or even need. read more

Please note that this review applies to both Ventura and Oxnard locations. Overall, a terrible experience. Do not sign up for a contract! Since I signed up, they have increased their prices and changed their policies to no longer allow you to freeze your account while still using massages that you have "built up." If you want to cancel, you have 2 months to use everything that you have accumulated. This may be all fine and dandy, except for the fact that they have a TERRIBLE track record for cancelling appointments on you last minute (or making mistakes in the schedule). I have had more appointments cancelled on me than they have kept...for whatever reason the therapists are always sick on the weekend. This includes appointments that were made weeks ahead of time. I have been trying to "get rid of" my accumulated appointments for over a year. No Luck. Oh and as a final note, if you are pregnant, then you are really out of luck. The choices for appointments with therapists who are trained in prenatal massage are VERY limited. Plus, they won't even allow you to have a massage during the 1st trimester...but will gladly keep charging you every month. As a medical professional, I challenge the notion that massage is contraindicated during the 1st trimester...show me the research that proves this. read more

PLEASE READ - I've been a massage envy member for over 7 yrs. Lately, every time I call to book an appointment, nothing was available (both Camarillo & Oxnard locations). So, I basically have accumulated 6 prepaid appointments (which means I haven't been in for the last 6 months). Well... After dealing with one of the more experienced receptionist at the Oxnard location (I will not mention her name), I plan on CANCELING my membership. When I called today to book an appointment, I was so happy to hear that they had only ONE available appointment for me to book. I was so happy that I told the lady (I found out later that she is a new employee there) that it's been months since I was able to book one. I guess I have the worst luck because every time I called, there were no available spots. Anyways, she goes on asking if I was a member? I told her yes and that I should have several prepaid massages on my account. In fact, while I was on the phone with her, I checked my credit card transactions and sure enough there was a monthly charge from massage envy for the month of July. She goes on to tell me that my membership shows up as being cancelled and that I never gave them my new credit card info. At that point I'm upset, but not at her because it's not her fault, it's the system. I'm upset because massage envy has been charging my credit card every month and now it shows that I have nothing under my account! I go on to explain to her that I've been at that location and the Camarillo and I never had any problems. She tells me that I should call the other location including the place that I originally signed up with (Chino Hills location). I told her no, I'm driving from work and in my mind I wanted to make it to the appointment that she had available for me. Plus, I go on to tell her that this is not my fault!! It's bad enough that I am getting charged and that I can never use my prepaid since every time I call they are always book at both locations (Camarillo & Oxnard). Finally, she mentions that she is writing all of this info for her manager to review on Mon. Meanwhile, I'm still driving so that I can make it to the appointment. I go on to mention to her that I'm not going to pay for this appointment, I will only pay for the tip since massage envy had already charged my credit card for this month (keep in mind that I have already accumulated 6 prepaid). She said ok let me just check with my associate just to make sure I didn't misinform you. So now the other "more experienced" associate is on the phone telling me that I still have to pay. I go on to mention to her that massage envy has been charging me every month and that I had no issues in the past when I went to the Camarillo location. She tells me that my account shows it has been cancelled and to call the other locations and get it clarified. And then she says that if I'm going book the appointment for today, I have about 2 minutes to make it. At that point I just had enough and decided to not book the appointment. I ended up calling the Camarillo location and asked the associate there how many prepaid shows up on my account and sure enough he tells me that I have 6!!! I call the Oxnard location and spoke to the "experienced" associate and told her to call the Camarillo location and sure enough she calls me back and says sorry yes there are 6 prepaid on my account. I congratulated her for making my day worse when initially I was soooo excited to finally get a massage. She made the pain in my neck worst than before my initial call to the Oxnard location. I told her that I am not upset at the new associate because she is still new, but with her, a more experienced associate never went that extra mile for me. All she had to do was call the Camarillo location to get it all cleared up. read more

***DISAPPOINTED FIRST TIMER*** I was very excited to try out Massage Envy for the first time but wow was I extremely disappointed. I had scheduled a 90 minute aromatherapy massage which had to be rescheduled because they mistakenly scheduled me with a therapist who only does 2 hr massages at first. When I walk into my scheduled 2:15pm appointment today, I was told my therapist called out sick but I can reschedule for 4pm. Not only did I not receive a phone call about this but I had driven 2 hours out of my way to drive two hours back due to the unorganized staff. There response was they left a message but when I confirmed the number on file it was incorrect - please note to schedule online I had to provide a phone number which they called just fine to book but had issues calling to tell me my therapist couldn't make the appointment. I didn't get as far as the massage but I can tell you this just the hassle of the appointment was enough for me never to go back again. read more
