I have probably missed 3 massages now because of their so called "reminder" system. I was getting their openings all day long so I talked to the owner about a year ago. He said he would switch it to where I would only get reminders for my appointment. It did not work, I was still getting daily reminders of their openings. I did not call back to complain. But now I am as I thought I had a massage today and looked to see if I got a call reminder that I missed which I did not, an e mail, which I did not, or a text, which I did not. I called and asked when my massage was as I knew I had one coming up. They said I missed it. I said I got no reminders. She said I opted out of getting reminders. If I opted out of reminders then why was I getting their openings daily as that is the only way I was told I would get a reminder. This is now the third time this has happened. Yet they cancelled on me at the last minute. Therapist was sick and they never gave me a credit for a massage yet if you miss one due to their messed up technology , you will be charged! My therapist got the job done and completed the service, but wasn't that friendly and didn't seem to enjoy her job very much. She did not attempt to above and beyond in any way at all. The session lasted 47 minutes so it wasn't like she was trying to get a good tip and exceed expectations in that regard either. The price of $70+tax not including tip for an intro session isn't cheap to begin with. In short, I tried this massage envy because they had openings and I wanted to get in late notice on a Saturday. I'm the type of person who loves shopping at mom and pop stores rather than the big box stores, so I wasn't excited about getting a massage here. But I had a gift certificate so ok and the parking was easy because it's in a plaza. The greeting was cool and the ambiance inside was nice. But the massage, was something I didn't know I needed from a massage chain! The entire experience was necessary. I opted for a "firm" because, why not. Don't just put lotion on me, massage my muscles. And she did! She was attentive to where I suggested she focus on and asked if the firmness was ok, and I appreciated that. What a great experience. When checking out is where they ask you over and over about the membership. The Assistant Manager lied and intentionally overcharged me $50. She claimed the intro rate didn't exist but then charged my husband the intro rate two hours later. My massage was great but I will not be returning to this location. Details: I booked a massage at the $75 intro rate online. That was the final pricing at confirmation.Then I was charged $125 (the non-member fee) as the Assistant Manager "claimed" they didn't have an intro rate. Coincidentally, my husband had a massage two hours later and was charged the $80 intro rate after his massage. Same day, two hours later. This occurred on 2/7/2023. There is fine print that states that "Introductory pricing not offered at all locations. If offered, introductory pricing only available if you have not received a service at an introductory price at a Massage Envy location in the past six months.....Updated pricing will be shown at "book your appointment" screen after location and date are selected." When I confirmed the appointment, my updated pricing still showed $75. I have never been to this Massage Envy and haven't had in massage in years. I may send this complaint to the Better Business Bureau. This is a shady business practice. read more

I just had the most rude unprofessional conversation with Natalie, who claims to be the Manager at Hyde Park. I called to find out how many visits I have available (monthly membership paid through flexible spending) and she tells me my membership is suspended and that I need to provide them with an updated form of payment. When I told her my membership was not suspended she then asked me it it was through HSA. I told her it was Flexible Spending, she then said she had to use a different system to push my payment through. I've been a member for years at this location using my Flexible Spending. When I asked to speak to her manager, Jenis, she stated that she would not be available until 10/30/23. I have gifted visits out to friends and apparently, if I switch home locations, they will lose their visit. I do NOT recommend the Hyde Park location. read more

I wish I could be one of those people that can get a nice relaxing massage a few times a year, but unfortunately I am one of those people that needs a deep tissue massage once a week. My budget allows me to come to Massage Envy once a month, or if I skip a month I can get a 2 hour session next next time. I kinda hate that you have to pay a monthly fee, as well as tip, but I guess that's normal. You can request what kind of service you want (relaxing, deep tissue, hot stone, etc). I was next to her when it was booked and didn't hear anything about it...and while it's possible they told her it was a stretch, it's unlikely. At that point, she could either do stretch appt or cancel and pay for it anyway - with no other options given (not even ability to get another transfer service sooner than 6 month window set in my membership). She did the stretch appt - and while the person did a good job - it wasn't at all what she signed up for. To share my concerns and see if the call was recorded, I reached out via the messenger system via Massage Envy's site. It's been a week with no reply so I felt it important to share my concern more broadly as the experience was bad enough since they were unwilling to bend in anyway to make it a better experience - and then was made worse by a lack of reply. I really like this spa. This is the first time I have treated myself to regular massages, and it is worth it! 1) The environment is so welcoming! The purple and green hues are all very calming. There is relaxing music on and it is quiet. There are super comfy couches. I like that there is a tranquility room you get taken into before your massage. This is dark and quiet, separate from the main waiting area where customers walk in. There is water and coffee available and lots of magazines. It lets you get in a serene mood. It is also very clean. 2) The staff is all very friendly! They greet you with a small and all have such calming voices. I wonder if they are encouraged to speak that way or all just naturally speak in soothing tones? The massage therapists all do a great job of communicating with you about what type of massage you want, how the pressure is, areas you want to focus on, and they give you recommendations for the next massage. The staff is very professional and are good about tucking in the sheet. I LOVE that the beds are heated. 3) Their membership program is awesome! I initially joined because I had a gift card. (PS This is a great gift if you're thinking of ideas for the holidays!) You get one massage a month. When you join you can get a free foot scrub and an extra half hour for a massage. I like that the massages you do not use carry over so you do not lose them. You can gift your massage for the month to a friend for only $10. You can also get additional massages each month at a reduced cost. If you refer a friend and they go to your location, you can get a free massage! Feel free to say that I referred you if you check out the Hyde Park location. :) 4) I have to say that this is one of the greatest investments I have made. Not only is this good for your body physically, but also mentally. It helps you relax and have an hour or two to yourself to think or not think. 5) Customer service is also good. I wanted to see how my gift card was spent and when I started to get charged. The sales associate emailed me my entire transaction history. They also are good about calling you back if you want to schedule an appointment. You do have to cancel, I believe, 48 hours in advance to not use your credit? This Massage Envy has been my lifesaver. I am a tightly-wound type A person and having a membership has been so helpful for both my physical and mental health. Yes, they do push memberships- but I feel like the rate is very reasonable. An hour massage at Mitchell's or Woodhouse would cost you $85-100+ not including tip, whereas Massage Envy is $69/month (which includes 1 massage)- and even cheaper if you get additional massages during the month. Yes, some massage therapists are better than others. I prefer deeper pressure, and I've found 2 therapists at this location that are amazing at deep tissue massage. I'm sorry, Yelpers, but I'm not going to share their names because then you'll all book them up :). But honestly, my advice is to try a few different ones until you find one that you really like. Trust me, these therapists are even better than ones you'll get at Mitchell's or Woodhouse. I will validate some of the scheduling concerns discussed in other reviews. There was a period in 2018 where I felt like the front desk staff wasn't the best. I'm not sure if it was training related, an IT issue, or personnel problems, but yes- there was an occasion when I thought I had scheduled, and apparently it didn't "go through"/wasn't scheduled correctly. Since then, one of the therapists told me about the Massage Envy app. I can now do all my scheduling through their app- which is much more reliable than their front desk staff. Finally, Massage Envy has locations all over the country. I have found this to be very convenient since I do travel. My parents have a home in Florida, and I can use my membership at the Massage Envy down there when I'm visiting. This is a nice perk! read more

First of all, every masseuse is different, and a lot of the quality of your massage actually depends on how well you have communicated your preferences to the person working on you. That having been said, it is a horse of a different color when you get a massage therapist that can read your body WITHOUT you telling them what you need, and adjust accordingly. This was not what my experience with Massage Envy was like. Massage Envy does a great job of bringing massages to the masses for a relatively inexpensive price... when you subscribe to their monthly program. (Out of the subscription package, a 60-minute massage runs for $99 - even more expensive than a top notch spa!). However, you get what you pay for. My massage therapist, Kevin, did a good job of adjusting the pressure to my preferences, however was clearly sticking to a pretty regimented massage routine. In addition. Any kind of aromatherapy, scrub, etc.. is tacked on for an additional fee. As for the atmosphere, nice but nothing outstanding. Though they do carry robes, I was not offered one. They do not have showers either (which is a shame, since I usually like to get a massage after working out. Had to go hike first.) Personally, since I get migraines, you'll find me at my chiropractor's office getting all my knots worked out by their top notch massage therapist! read more

Bottom line- this place is a bunch of thieves and please take your business somewhere else. So I bought a membership agreement with massage envy Hyde Park and I got backed up on services, I had around 15 unused hours that I paid for in advance. I wanted to move to the Eastgate location as I live closer to that one and they were no help at all, saying I would lose all my services that I had paid for. Finally I worked out (or so I thought) an agreement in October with them to use all of my services in a 90 day period. Less than a week later all of my services are "missing" and Hyde Park says that a "bulk" transfer was made in May (not true) and it is now the other locations problem. I should have just gone to the person I usually go to at Mitchell's but this place was close and had openings with "their best esthetician." I hate being lied to - this was definitely NOT their best esthetician, it was more like amateur hour. What a complete waste of money! Then at checkout, the grumpy front desk person tried to charge me for the free add-on. When I corrected her, there was no "my mistake", "I'm sorry", or any other acknowledgement of her error. My first massage was pretty good however I was still in pain because it turned out to be a medical condition. I informed ME that the massages I was getting after my surgery were not helpful. I asked to be removed from the contract and the asked for a letter from my doctor. I had a tube coming out of my chest it's not like i had a cold. I even tried to get a massage with the tube, it was horrible I was Leary and so was the extremely inexperienced massage tech. I tried to give the massages I've already paid for to my daughter and had to pay extra for her to use them what a con! I am basically fed up with this place they could care less about the health of their clients. The only time they ever called me was when I received a new bank card and forgot to update it with them so that they could continue to charge me for services I couldn't use. I get massages for my migraines/neck tension and she asked about pressure, asked her to increase and she kept the same light touch the entire time. This place has a relaxing atmosphere, is spotless inside and the staff is extremely professional. Their hours of operation are incredible: 8 am - 10 pm Monday-Friday, 8 am - 6 pm Saturday, 10 am - 6 pm Sunday, Their pricing is very affordable. Right now, they have an introductory rate of $39/ hour massage. What a deal! The staff are all certified massage therapists and they give you the option to have a male or female work on you. They also have couples options available. When I went, I was able to make an appoint the same day, and my massage therapist suggested a number of exercises that would help my lower back pain between massages. read more

I've never been one to go get pedicures or pamper myself excluding the occasional haircut. I had only ever received 2 massages prior to today. As a RN working in the ICU, I have been noticing my back and shoulders hurting. Even using proper body technique, it is hard to avoid injury when you have to turn 500 lb unconscious patients every two hours. I somehow managed to get 5 days of work off in a row, and thought I would indulge myself in a massage. I was able to walk in and get an appointment for later the same day. I guess I have never really gotten many massages due to the price. Massage Envy has a special introductory rate of $39 for an hour massage, and if you join as a member, it only increases to $49. All other massages I have had were in fancy spas and were much more expensive. Massage Envy exclusively does massages, and they just started offering facials. I stink with names so I don't remember who my massage therapist was. I do know she was very friendly and did a great job. All the staff were friendly and polite, even though I was one of the only customers during the snow storm. Although of course they want you to join as a member, I didn't feel pressured to join. I enjoyed it so much, I actually did end up joining! I'm sure I will be pleased with my monthly massage. How fun! read more

The location is clean (each franchise I've been in has been consistent with this) and has a relaxing environment. The first time you come in, you fill out some paperwork about what you want to get out of the massage, then on subsequent visits, they just verbally ask what you're looking for in your massage for that session. After you check in at the main desk, you're invited to wait for your masseuse in the "relaxation room" where they have comfy chairs/couches and magazines. You should be aware that the 60 min massage is actually 50min with 5min included for "consultation/dressing" at the beginning and the end. Each therapist I've seen has been very professional accomodating as far as making sure the room was warm enough in the winter and cool enough in the summer., and also making sure the massage pressure is just right The tables have a heat feature that can be turned on or off. Relaxation music plays throughout the experience as well. I don't always end up using my massage every month, just because of my busy schedule, so I've been able to gift some of these extra massages to friends. Basically, the friends has to come into Massage Envy with you, and then you pay something like a $10 fee to "transfer" the massage to them. I've done this twice, and each time I've been offered a room together, which we declined. (So I guess they do couples massages? Not sure...) Staff at the front desk is welcoming and courteous. Last time I was in, there was a sudden rainstorm that started right when I was getting ready to leave and they invited me to grab a magazine and relax in the front waiting area if I wanted to wait out the storm. I started getting massages at the Massage Envy at The Greene in Dayton, and was able to transfer my membership officially to this location when I moved to Cincy last summer. That was kind of a pain, took multiple phone calls and a lot of time on hold, but they eventually figured that out. read more

My massage here was fine (Maureen) but the facial was not. My nose has been bruised for 5 days. She pinched and squeezed until I thought I was going to faint. I looked up clogged pores and steaming or masking is good but squeezing is NOT; in fact two sites warned AGAINST doing this as "the skin on your face is much more sensitive than the skin on your body. Alway be gentle with your face". This was the opposite treatment at Massage Envy. Also it looked like a cheap motel. Mitchels Day Spa around the corner is much more clean and welcoming. The facilities are always clean, and the masseurs are always professional. I am extremely disappointed with Massage Envy, have cancelled my membership and am sharing my experience with everyone I know, who are also cancelling their memberships. First of all, I was never told when I got my membership that it would go into an automatic month to month roll over if i did not cancel. now, i accept 100% responsibility to read the contract I signed, but why wouldn't the company give a heads-up to it's members at the 11 or 12 month mark? it's a huge company and have no need to take advantage of your customers. When I called a few months after I thought my membership was up, the employee looked me up, told me I was no longer a member and that the massages I had already paid for and not used could no longer be used. I am just dumb-founded that I was told I could not use services I had already paid for, this is like stealing from your clients. so unethical. For months I believed my account was inactive, then get a call 9 months later asking for an update on my credit card information as I had been charged every month. I cancelled immediately and was told I had 30 days to use 9 services! This is just ridiculous. The manager refunded 3 of the 9. If they have the capability to refund 3, they should be able to refund ALL. Especially since none of the services were ever used! Such abuse. I have brought this issues up to the manager multiple times and she did not seem phased. Could this be because it happens a lot? Anytime my family members or I call, half the time they get the wrong account or we are told the wrong information. My whole family and many of my friends are cancelling their memberships. read more
