I received no type of communication or confirmation regarding the booking whatsoever. I simply received a call that I was being charged $25 for a missed appointment. When I requested the cancellation fee be waived, the manage immediately became aggressive and rude. She then charged me a monthly credit (worth $91), instead of the $25 cancellation fee she originally stated would apply. I had the worst experience with Massage Envy in Hoboken today. I was supposed to do a facial and the ESTHETICIAN Christie started with steam to open pores. While this is a standard procedure, the steam was too close and my face felt hurt right away. I told her it was hot multiple times and she didn't listen. Instead, she said there was no redness and went on with the facial. Until I told her multiple times that it hurt, she moved the steam away. However, she still insisted there was no redness and tried to convince me that the steam is less hurtful than boiled water. The light was very dim and of course nobody can see. She didn't try to provide any remedy. I insisted on getting cold water to calm down my face and she finally gave me some. I was shocked by her indifference and overbearing attitude. The ladies at reception areas refused to give me the manager's schedule and their business numbers for the issue. I had to ask for an email address to reach out. I was told to wait a few minutes for my therapist to come out but instead waited for about 35 minutes only for one of the ladies at the front desk to come and tell me they had to cancel my appointment because of some sort of internal miscommunication. My session was for 60 minutes but I waited for 35 and left with no service. She awarded me with a $15 enhancement voucher though, lol. What a slap in the face. My parking and gas cost more than that to get there and I only have one day off every two weeks. I feel very disrespected and not valued as a member/human. Came here for a back and neck massage. Once in the room I tried to make it clear that I wanted just my neck and back done. The therapist informed me that she spoke only simple English - curveball. Generally I am a little confused as to why a service provider wouldn't speak the customer's language; at the very least maybe a heads up by the receptionist to check if that is okay. Anyway, she asked if I wanted full massage, and, pointing to my neck and back, I said, "only neck and back". She nodded and seemed to understand. About 25 minutes into my massage she asked me to flip over, and lost as to how I could better communicate with a non-English speaker, I just complied. That all being said, I did really enjoy her actual massage. She used an incredible amount of force, which I needed. So that part was exceptional (hence the 2 stars). A little background on my first massage envy experience is warranted for this next part. The first place I went on long island had (1) an interior, dark, and calming waiting area to recenter your head prior to the massage, (2) only played nature sounds during the massage, which made be feel incredibly relaxed, and (3) a warm towel at the cessation of the massage to wipe away any of remaining massage oil. This place did not have the tranquil interior waiting room. The music played did include soothing sounds of nature, but also included instrumental versions of popular Disney hits "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas and "Beauty and the Best". The mind has a weird way of focusing on music when it is something you recognize, and needless to say hearing these pulled me right away from the soothing sounds of nature. You may have guessed where this was going, but at the end of the massage I was just left there hanging with nothing to clean off. And I couldn't really ask for one given the language barrier. I originally went into Massage Envy before this past Christmas to purchase a gift card for my boyfriend who has never had a massage. I have held a previous membership at Hand & Stone in Clark NJ but never really went for various reasons. My initial first impression was that the space was clean and welcoming. The front desk was extremely helpful with the gift certificate. I also received a promotional gift certificate for $40.00 towards a Massage for myself. I returned shortly after the new year for a 90 minute massage. After that initial massage (which was great), I remembered how important it was to pamper myself here and there so I signed up for a membership. Today I went in for an early 90 minute massage (there is an early bird discount M-Th for morning appointments). I met with the massage therapist named Anna. We did the typical quick chat about any problem areas and what kind of pressure I wanted. I said Medium/moderate. I'm usually one for light pressure but I had some knots from strength training so I took a chance. So glad I did. It was the hardest (for me) massage I have ever had, but the absolute BEST massage I have ever had in my entire life. The only way to explain it is that she hit all the feels. Where I needed work she got the knots out in a "hurts so good" kinda way. Where I didn't, she gave just enough pressure for me to relax. In the past I have always thought of massages as a good 60-90 minutes of feel good pampering during the session alone. Today was different. This was my first time here. I scheduled an appointment via phone and later that day was charged for an annual membership. I spent 6 hours on and off the phone with them to get them to remove the fraudulent charge. They told me a few times they would call me back, but after waiting the first time for a call back - which was three hours after my first call - I told them I would not hang up until I spoke with the manager. The manager made me wait a long time on the phone and finally told me that they had adopted a new computer system or some kind of payment system and it was the system which accidentally charged me. She refunded me, but it took three more phone calls and finally an email later to prove that she did. When I did arrive for my appointment, my masseuse picked me up 5 minutes late for my one hour massage and only massaged me until 3:40. He didn't even apologize. I was hoping to start a new membership with Massage Envy - it's conveniently located near my apartment. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my experience, and I will not be returning. The receptionists were extremely sweet - they really took a ton of time getting to know me and my likes/dislikes. It started off as a great experience. They offered me water and mints. So nice! I then went in for my massage. It took my therapist rather long to come in the room, which was weird. I would say a good 10 minutes to change. The actual massage was extremely mediocre - I felt like it was really amateur. The pressure was fine so I couldn't even comment on that - I felt relaxed after, but it was the least favorite massage I've had. As I walked out, I knew I would not be getting the membership, but I wanted to listen to the pricing. It was way more expensive than my membership at Hand & Stone! I love the fact that your credits roll over if you have a busy month and can't schedule an appointment. Diana and Michael are astounding. I joined at this location because its providers I had numerous friends and family come and join the membership. The biggest problem is not being able to reschedule due to limit service providers. The point of the monthly membership is to get services monthly not every 6 to 8 weeks. I have a stressful job and if the massage is going to take that long than it should be so good that I am held over to the next service. They have had high turn over of providers and non of the original staff who I loved are still there.how do you schedule stress in advance? So if I need a massage this week I have to call to be told in 3 weeks we have available. By that time my body is so tight the 90 minutes do nothing even the masseuse was like your body is so tight. There are even times I had to pay other locations for the same service. They shouldn't have a mo they service they should just have pay as you go since they dont have availability. My friends who joined were going regularly and the last time they gave them a appointment almost shy of 2 months. So I bring you clients, I pay a monthly service and cant get serviced. While the following review applies mostly to the San Diego location, it's the Hoboken branch that has to make things right given Massage Envy's deliberately anti-customer structure. More on that below. Consider this a cautionary tale if you ever plan on moving and have a membership: Made multiple appointments for massages for my girlfriend and I which were cancelled at the last minute. One of the receptionists, now gone thankfully, said 'I'm not going to feel bad about it'. I wasn't asking you to feel bad, just maybe show some respect for ruining our date night. In the other case the manager tried to put it on me that I was not understanding that someone called in sick - staffing your business or finding coverage is not my problem. If it was the first time, sure whatever but it's part of a pattern. But that's typical of Massage Envy; they create the problem then put it on you to either accept or resolve yourself. We had already cancelled our membership for repeated problems having. At this point want nothing to do with them and just want to get credited back for the massages that we already paid for but can't use due to repeated cancellation. Is that easy? Of course not. Is that too much to ask? Of course. Avoid Massage Envy. Massage Envy posted some bs, contact us to make it right in my San Diego review. The manager therealready refused to make this right. Just to clarify, this review is based on the level of customer service and membership regulations that are effective at this location, not the masseuses themselves. I came here with my girlfriend, braving the traffic of the holland tunnel (took us 1.5 hrs) after reserving a couples massage here. When we got here, we were told that a new corporate policy stated that I could only transfer massages to one person once every 6 months, and if she wanted a massage she would either have to become a member or pay a $208 price. What bullshit!! When I asked why I was not notified of this on the phone when I made the reservation, the manager shrugged and said "i didn't book your reservation." More like, we just wanted to put you in a situation where you would be inclined to pay us an extra $208 for no reason when I still have 9 unused massages on my account. I can't lie, the massages here are nice and professional. But once you are a member, if you expect any kind of accommodating service, they will slap you in the face and take what they can get from you. Regulations like "if you don't use up your massages by the end of your membership they just disappear, and there is a transfer fee to give someone else a massage. Oh and you're actually only getting a 40 minute massage because they give you 10 minutes to dress and undress. Screw this place, there are tons of locations in the city where you can get much better service and massages for less without the snotty I-don't-give-rats-ass attitude. I signed up for a membership when my friend started working at the Edgewater location. With all the craziness of the last year I decided I needed to treat myself to some mental and physical relaxation. Thankfully the Hoboken location opened and I can now get my massage closer to home. When it comes to massages never be afraid to speak up if you are not happy with the person you are working with because the experience is about being relaxed and not working with someone that is totally going to town on your body. Amanda is my therapist at the Hoboken location and she is amazing. She starts the session asking me if anything specific is bothering me she then asks about the type of pressure I desire. Don't expect your therapist to know what type of pressure you need it is what feels comfortable to you. Amanda is attentive and will point out specific stress points if any. I just wish I could take a little nap after my massage because it's so hard to get up after you are totally immersed into a relaxed state of mind and body. There is a new location in Jersey City that is closer to my place but I don't think I can leave Amanda. The business is located in the upper part of Hoboken 1 block from the waterfront. After your massage you can take a nice little relaxing stroll along the water and take in the view of the hustle and bustle of NYC across the Hudson. read more

I have had two massages here. Both presents from my husband. The first one the woman who gave me the massage talked too much and I really just wanted a quiet time to decompress. The second time I specifically requested a masseur who was quiet, and the massage was a million times better. My only negative of the place is that they push really hard for you to become a monthly member. They have a survey before getting your massage where the company asks you very leading questions like, "would you like more massages" or "why don't you get more massages".. and then at the end of the massage the messeur pushes you to sign up. read more

I've been a member of Massage Envy for a few years now and every time I come I have a relaxing hour. Specifically I come for my monthly facials with Jordana (she is a genius) and I have never second guessed my decision to come see her every month. If you are a first time guest going for a massage it'll run you roughly $49 not including tax/tip. Deciding on a facial for the first time that is an extra $10. Beware they will try their best sales tactics to get you to sign up for the membership. Just say NO! It worked out financially better for me becoming a member but it doesn't for everyone. The facilities itself are nice and gives a warm feeling that all spas should. Located on the ground floor of the Maxwell building it can be difficult to find. I suggest walking if you are capable because we know how parking is in Hoboken. This is what leads me to taking off 1 star just because in the years I have been coming here they finally just told me on my last visit that they validate your parking ticket if you park in the garage around the corner. This was something they mentioned after I complained about getting another parking ticket. Would have been nice to been told that or perhaps have a sign somewhere letting customers know. read more

I wanted to love my experience at Massage Envy for a prenatal massage, but unfortunately I have to give it a 2 star review. My massage therapist was a lovely person and she was great at giving me tips about my body and aches, which is the only reason I give it a 2 star versus a 1 star review. So I got my prenatal massage here just as I entered my 3rd trimester. I had already had 3 other prenatal massages elsewhere so I feel like I had a pretty good point of comparison. I made this appointment due to proximity to home and laziness in not having to go to the city or downtown Hoboken and I desperately wanted to LOVE it so I could continue to conveniently get prenatal massages. Unfortunately, my massage here did not live up to any of the other prenatal massages I had throughout the rest of my pregnancy and I will not be back. Here's why: *Massage Envy doesn't have a specialized Prenatal Massage table (the one with the donut for the belly so you can lay face down). Therefore, you have to lay on your side the entire time. This was highly uncomfortable for me since, ironically, I feel most of my pain and suffering comes never being able to get comfortable with sleeping on my side. I really felt awkward the entire time and my arms kept falling asleep. It was just unfortunate. *The lights were kept on throughout the massage. Although there was calming music on, the fact that I could see everything and there was a large digital clock that was clearly visible with the time (more on that later) made me unable to relax appropriately. I felt more as if I was at a medical office or chiropractor rather than a massage therapist's room. *After reading other reviews here, I was very scared they were going to cut my massage short by making me do paperwork to eat into my massage time or count my "changing time" as part of the massage. As a result, I got to my appointment 15 min early and wore a dress that literally took me 1 second to slip off. My appointment started at 7PM on the dot. There was a large digital clock in the room that was blatantly visible throughout the massage so I was able to track the time precisely. That is how I know for a fact that my massage stopped at exactly 7:53PM. I live super close to this location and I my foot was in my apartment door at 8PM. My husband was upset that I didn't get my money worth for 60 minutes! *They tried to sell me on purchasing the membership. I'm sure they do this to everyone. Needless to say, I didn't buy it. I just hate being "sold" something and told that if I didn't "buy now I'd have to pay an initiation fee if I decided to later". It's just so gimmicky and made me feel highly uncomfortable. I've been going here for over two years..I went from falling in love with Therapist Free to RJ and if Steph wasn't at the front desk I would of discontinued my membership like a year ago! I just love her! I walk in, they know who I am, I go straight to the confectionaries and start getting my moneys worth! I referred a handful of people and they all love this location. The customer service and professionalism is ALWAYS on point! Not to mention they are always going above and beyond to make sure you are 100% satisfied. And this is one of the few locations that has a 30 minute early bird special. Book an appointment Mon-Thurs before 9:30AM and get an additional 30 minutes! Awesomeness!!! read more
